Chapter 33: Knowing & Not Knowing.
Khushi paced up and down the living room. It was 7pm and the physiotherapist must have reached Arnav's office. She thought he'd get angry with her. She thought he would definitely call and scold her but he didn't. The point was that she didn't understand whether that was a good thing or a bad thing? Khushi looked at her phone continuously waiting for it to ring. She knew Arnav pretty well, he should have called by now. She stopped pacing. "This is stupid," she told herself. She stopped thinking about it. It's a good thing Arnav hasn't called. That means he understands why I did it.' Khushi told herself. She shook her head. Sometimes she could really get hyper.
Khushi had just switched on the TV when the phone rang. She looked at the caller and practically laughed. It was Arnav.
"Hello?" she answered the call.
"Mrs. Khushi Singh Raizada, what is wrong with you?" Arnav hissed on the phone.
Khushi tried to control her laughter. It was difficult but she managed to do it.
"What?" she pretended.
"You sent the physiotherapist to my office! Are you joking?" he scolded.
"No. This is not a joke." Khushi replied sincerely - still trying to control herself from laughing out loud.
"Khushi he just told me, he told ASR, that he would not go until I finish my therapy unless Khushi ma'am tells him to." Arnav said irritated.
"He isn't going to leave unless you get your therapy done." Khushi said.
"Not at office!" Arnav said.
"So when? You come home at 10! You go to office at 8. You are not even at home for 12 hours!" Khushi said now becoming serious.
"But Khushi--"But what Arnav?"
"This is my work place!"
"And this is about you! Don't you want to walk again?"
"Khushi I can't get my therapy done here." He said with an air of finality.
"You know what ASR, you can tell him to leave, tell him Khushi ma'am says leave." She said cutting the line.
Arnav frowned. She always does this. Now I'm the villain in all of this. Arghh! And -- and since when does she call me ASR?' He thought.
"Sir, what did ma'am say?" the therapist asked.
"Let's start the therapy." Arnav sighed. The therapist grinned.
"What?" Arnav asked harshly. The therapist shook his head hiding his laugh.

Anjali sat in her room all day. She was lonely even here. She didn't have anything to do and by now she had understood that Khushi didn't like her much. How would she explain it to Khushi? She would never understand and if she would tell her the truth she may get offended. Anjali decided to just stay shut. She switched on her laptop and tried to find a job again. There were many applications she could fill out but nothing that interested her. The reason she had been jacked was big and now she didn't know which company would give her a job though she had some money invested at a few other companies. She was hoping to get some good returns so she could atleast buy a place of her own. She wasn't going back anytime soon.
It was only 8:30 and the doorbell rang. Khushi was up in her room reading a book. She had kept her phone on silent so she could read peacefully and avoid Arnav's calls.
"Khushi," Arnav said wheeling himself into the room.
Khushi looked up at him and then looked at her watch. "ASR?" she asked, "Are you okay?"
"What is wrong with you? You haven't been answering my calls! So much anger? And, really, what's with you calling me ASR?" he asked wheeling himself closer to his angry wife.
"This isn't anger Arnav, you leave me no other option! You are never there at home, you don't want to get your therapy done, all you want to do is work! And why? ASR is your name." Khushi scolded.
"I am sorry," Arnav said holding her hand. "I'll come home on time for therapy from now." He said. "And please stop calling me ASR."
"No. I'll call you ASR! You deserve it."
"I don't like you calling me ASR. It feels very detached."
"Okay." She replied, "Arnav. And I was angry mostly because of my hormones, they are all over the place." She said.
They both paused and then burst out laughing.
Anjali stood at the door watching them. She was jealous, ofcourse she was but she wasn't heartless. She wanted Arnav to be happy and seeing him happy even now, even in this state, made Anjali realize what she was missing. She had chosen to stay alone and today she had no one to laugh with, cry with or even sit silently with. She had no one. She had tears in her eyes when Arnav saw her.
"Hey, Anjali." Arnav said, "Come on in!" he called.
Khushi's face became stern. She looked at Anjali.
"I'll come back in a minute, just need to make a phone call." She said walking away wiping her tears.
"What happened to her?" Arnav asked Khushi.
"She told me why she came here." Khushi said.
"What? What did she tell you?"
"She told me she lost her job." Khushi said. Khushi told Arnav everything Anjali had told her earlier this day. Arnav was shocked hearing it all. "Arnav she came here to get back with you! Ofcourse seeing you again has brought back some--"No. I don't think that's right. As you said, I told her I was going to move on. And when I asked her why she left she told me something totally different." Arnav said. He couldn't figure out which one was true.
He wheeled himself out of the room. Khushi followed him. They entered Anjali's room. She sat on the bed with dry tears on her cheeks. She wiped them as she saw them come in.
"Anjali, tell me why you are here, the real reason!" he said seriously. Anjali could make out by his voice that he was very serious.
"Arnav, I am guessing Khushi told you. I lost my job." She said boldly, or rather, as bold as she could be.
"That doesn't answer my question." He said. Anjali knew now it was time to tell the tale.
"I lost my job because I messed up with the investments. I told you I invested too much of the company's money into your company. I had studied your company very closely and you never made a mistake so in the beginning there was a lot of profit. I even got promoted thanks to that. But later, I mean, in the last 5 months I wasn't quite sure what was wrong with you. All the money I put it was always gone. Then you had this perfect opportunity to get back and I was so sure you'd act on it so I put in more money and then you screwed that up too. So my company lost all it's money and I lost my job. I was worried. I didn't know what you'd be doing and I thought you had relapsed into- you know what- and so I came here." She said taking a deep breath.
"But you told me--"Yes, I did. I wasn't going to get another job there so I thought maybe if Arnav was still... I am sorry." She said cutting Khushi in the middle. She had messed things up a lot.
Khushi didn't want to be rude but she couldn't take it. Arnav moved towards Anjali, "I am sorry," he said. "Arnav you don't--"Excuse me," Khushi said as she turned around and walked out. She was feeling terrible. Not only did she mess up Arnav's business she was also the reason Anjali got fired because she was handling the business and today she's come back to get her husband. Arnav had to apologize to her because of me. I was the reason she lost her job not Arnav. I have messed this situation up so much. If I wouldn't be here, Arnav would still be living his life and probably would have even gotten married to Anjali.' She thought.
Arnav had noticed that Khushi left. "Anjali, Khushi isn't a bad person she just--"I know Arnav. I understand." Anjali said smiling. "I'm glad I told you everything." She said. "Anjali, please don't worry and you can stay here till whenever you want, you're like family!" he said with a smile. "Arnav I'll find a place in a few days." She said. "Take your time, get a job, settle down and then leave," he said, "I should go check on Khushi now." He said. Anjali nodded. He was wheeling himself out when Anjali said, "Thank you." Arnav smiled.
Khushi was just upset about everything. She still couldn't get over the fact that Anjali chose her work over everything else in life. Somewhere, she was scared that what if Arnav did something like that. She never let that fear out because it seemed very absurd, no one does that - but Anjali actually did it. She trusted Arnav, he wouldn't do something like that but still, she had that fear. She tried to forget about it. All of if but she didn't know how to?
"Khushi," Arnav said entering the room. Khushi looked up at him. "What was that?" "I'm sorry, I couldn't stand there and watch you apologize for something I did."
"It wasn't our fault that she lost her job!" Arnav clarified.
"You apologized Arnav! And she didn't say anything wrong, I did create problems in your company."
"Who said that? Khushi no one would have been able to do a better job than you!" he said holding her hands in his.
"Are you kidding? Even the workers had a problem with me."
"What? When did that happen?" Arnav asked shocked.
"Forget it. I shouldn't have left the room that time." She apologized.
"Khushi, listen to me," he said. "Arnav let's please talk about something else."
"NO." Arnav said. "Khushi you had no experience in running a company, you had to deal with me at home and I'm just upset that even my employees gave you a hard time at work!"
Khushi just sat there listening. "You did your best, I know that, does anything else matter?" he asked. Khushi shook her head like a child.
"And now please cheer up! I've come home so early and this is what I get?"
Khushi laughed. "That's more like it. I love that laugh. I could do anything for that smile, anything for you." He said.
"I don't want anything more!" Khushi said.
"That's the problem! You never demand for anything, you never tell me what you want! You're always satisfied with whatever you get!" He said.
"I don't need anything, you've given me everything even before I ask you."
"Khushi, I promise, I will make up for these 6 months of sadness I've given you."
"You've already done a lot."
"By the way, don't you want to know what progress I made in therapy today?"
Khushi looked at him intently.
"I stood on my feet for 2 minutes 50 seconds without pain. Then it started hurting."
"Wow! I am so so happy. You'll walk soon."
"I'm taking my first step tomorrow!" Arnav announced with excitement and nervousness.
"What?" Khushi gasped.
"I told the therapist, I'm ready. And I will love it if you--"I'll be there! Ofcourse, I wouldn't miss it for the world!" She said hugging Arnav.
"Now can we have dinner? I'm starving!" he asked.
Khushi laughed, "Yes."
