Khushi kay ansoo
Lavanya stops her at door, and is shocked to see tears in her eyes. Is she not happy for her ? Khushi wipes her tears and assures her, she is extremely happy, these are tears of joy ... Khushi kay ansoo ... Lavanya is not convinced but makes light of ... Ha kuon ki Lavanya kay ansoo toh Lavanya ki ankho mein hogay ... She has spoken prophetically ... Lavanya's ansoo are not too far off. They too will come ... As soon as later tonight ...
The girls hug. Khushi is genuinely happy for her. But she does not once stop to think how close she had come to betraying her friends trust ... Not once, not even days later does she take a moment to dwell on how out of character ... How incongruous to her own value system her actions would have been ... She displays not so much a self interest or self preservation as much as a surprising lack of acknowledgment of the enormity of the transgression ... This breach of faith she was about to participate in ...
He too has no such qualms either ... He had pondered, Mein yeh kasay kar sakta hoon. His thoughts have nothing what so ever to do with the fact that his girlfriend is in the next room, diligently, earnestly, playing the part of a well turned out, maybe ... hopefully, future Bahu to be ...
But now, inherent to her nature, her joy in the happiness of others, she is happy for her friend. How can she grudge her friend what she has been hers all along ... What she has desired for so longs ... Has worked so hard for ... She has really changed her lifestyle, her outlook to life, all for the sake of this man. And really they do belong together ... She is just a transient phase in their lives.
Khushi tries to leave, but Lavanya will not let her. She drags her in, past him. She has to join in on the celebrations. A brilliant smile painted on her lips, she takes the Methai from Naniji and starts to serve it ... Aaj toh hum sab ka moh meetha karagay ... His eyes squint in disapproval at her feigned chirpy tone. Mamiji's snide putdown is well time and correct. But Khushi agrees with Mamiji, she too is thrilled that the work she had came here to do, is done and now she is not needed here any longer ...
She is no longer needed in his home ... Never to see her again ... The very thought, he rejects it outright. In his hurry to distance himself from her, he had not dwelled on any of the consequence of his hasty, thoughtless behavior. He had not thought that his harsh rejection of her and his rushed acceptance of Lavanya will end up costing him more than her tears.
She is late and insists on leaving immediately. His Di is absolutely right ... Why is this girl so goddamn stubborn ! She is angry, he gets that, but why won't she listen to logic ! Where does she think she a going this late in the night, all alone, dressed like that ... But there is nothing he can ... His is left staring at her in helpless, silent outrage and mind numbing worry. Stop this nonsense, he wants to shout, but the words soundlessly break apart on his lips. He has lost the right to say anything to her ...
Control. He did all this for control ... But now, This thing !!! This decision of his seems to have developed legs of its own and seems to be running at a hundred kilometers per hour ... Lavanya is leaning on his shoulder, dreamily contemplating the future Mrs. and Mr. Raizada, Nani is talking about meeting Lavanya's parents ... Mamiji is, as usual, in a hurry to get him hitched ... Kal hi rooka ceremony karwa dijiay aur phir phast mangani and super phast shaadi ...
Enough of this nonsense everyone ! The walls of his living room closing in on him, he snaps his rage and bitingly reminds them. He has agreed get married. He didn't say he'd do it tonight. He goes looking for her. Her questions follow him, the memory of the past few hours haunts her. He slams his brakes. She is in the middle of the road, startled to see him. Her cheeks gleam with her shed tears, her eyes shine with them but her brilliant fake smile, dulls them all. She greets him with pleased surprise ... Aap yahen kya kar rahay hai ... Aapko to ghar pay ...
He orders her to get into the car. She politely declines, only to enflame him further. Shut up and sit in the car. His tone leaves no room for dissent. She will not give him the satisfaction of seeing her crushed. She continues to ramble chirpily. She had forgotten to congratulate him. How remiss of her ! Aap ko bahut Mubarak ho ... She is thrilled for him and Lavanya.
The control he had seeked, evades him completely. He challenges her, Toh tum khush ho ? Of course ! She trills. Why wouldn't she be happy ? Isn't this what she had been hired to do ? This is exactly what she had wanted.
He is not impressed ... Oh Really ? Tum yehi chahati thi ? He wants her to yell ... Nahin mein khush nahin hoon ... He does not let her sidestep. Did she not want to know about her Payal ? Her Payal ? Not really ... She is just thrilled that they are getting engaged ... Aap dono ki Jodi ...
The most ridiculously infuriating, the most callously complex, the most idiotically stubborn man has had enough ! Was he ever going to tell her the truth ... What was he going to say ? Meinay Thumhri Payal ko seenay say laga kay rakha tha ... Kuon ki mujeh Farak padta hai ... Very very unlikely !
She does not want to hear why he had hung on to her Payal ... She does not want to know why he clung to it like a talisman ... She does not want to hear anything he has to say ... Well ASR !!! Do you blame her ?
She is happily chirping about his Jodi with Lavanya ! Get out ... He mouths ... She struggles to get out, her sari stuck in the seat belt. Her ansoo that she had hidden behind her jaw aching smile, spill freely ...
But nothing is for free ... His quest for his freedom ... the pursuit for control, demands a payment ... He sees them ... Her ansoo ... Collateral remittance ... He will let her cry, even if her ansoo rip his heart.
Their song wails for her, knowing her cries are not too far behind ... It slams the door on him, hoping to shut him out.
