KHUSHI

"You?" I said dropping my knife.

He smirked.

"Why did you do that? You scared the hell out of me." I said hitting him on the chest.

"Did I?" He asked while coming forward to hug me. I resisted.

"Tell me mister, why did you scare me?"

"I wanted to surprise you. " He said motioning his hands in a random fashion and my eyes fell on the cut I gave him minutes ago.

"Arnav, you really should not have done that, I could have hurt you. Now come on, show me the cut." I said stretching for Arnav's hand.

"I am alright Khushi, it is a small cut. I deserved it for frightening you like this in the middle of the night."

"I will deal with you later for that. Let me take care of this now." I said picking up the first aid kit from the shelf.

"Stop" He said and moved closer to me. Before I knew his, lips were on mine. At that moment, I knew that he missed me as much as I missed him.

After a while, he stood there watching me clean the fresh wound I had given him.

"I just hope it is not that deep. You should go see a doctor tomorrow." I suggested.

"Oh come on darling, it is just a scratch. I am used to more pain than this."

"BTW why are you here? I heard that the team would arrive only tomorrow."

"It doesn't affect if one wants to surprise his girlfriend, does it?"

"It doesn't but how come the media did not know about the team's arrival?"

"That is because the team wouldn't be arriving until later tomorrow. Rishabh and I skipped some parties to surprise our fiance and girlfriend."

"That is great. Did Rishabh too scare Anya like you did to me?"

"Yeah, he had help from his mother while I had to contact your best friends for that."

"You mean Ria and Karan were helping you?"

"Guess."

"I don't know."

"Try to remember anything before, no after diner."

"She did not forget the keys, she did that for you."

"Absolutely right. And Karan came in first to make sure I was okay, not the house."

"I am going to kill her."

"Why? For helping your boyfriend surprise you? Tell me you haven't done that for them."

"I have."

"Leave it dear, let us now just enjoy."

"Enjoy what?" I asked and he brought a trophy into the picture.

"This is for you. The man of the match trophy of the century I dedicated to you."

"Thanks. Do you always do that?" I asked taking it from him.

"Always do what?"

"Give away the trophy to the person you dedicate it to?"

"Not always. I don't dedicate often."

"Yeah right." I said hugging him.

"Are you feeling sleepy?"

"Yeah, a bit."

"Then let us sleep. My jet lag is sure to hit me soon."

"But don't you want any dinner?"

"Nah, I had it a while back."

"You sure."

"Positive."

"Okay." I said as we went to my room to sleep. Just sleep, nothing else.

I woke up around eleven; strong arms wrapped around my waist prevented me from moving.

"Arnav." I called.

"Hmm."

"Wake up."

"Shush, go back to sleep."

"No it is late."

"It is not late. Remember you do not have work to do. It is a Sunday."

"I agree it is a Sunday, but I have work other than the official ones."

"Stay with me."

"I would love to Arnav, but I just can't."

"Go back to sleep." He said tightening the hold on my waist.

I would not accept defeat so early; I had to repay him for scaring me too. My eyes roamed around the room thinking of a way to wake him up. An idea popped into my head and I reached for the bedside table. I took some water from the bottle and sprinkled it on his face.

"You..." he sat up on the bed glaring at me.

A smirk formed on my lips.

"I was better off without you." He said and those words hurt me.

I got up from bed and out of his hold went to the washroom.

"Hey Khushi, come out. I wasn't serious, was just pulling your leg." I heard him speak a minute after I had disappeared from my room.

I do not know why, but I felt like crying. It was not as if I was on my period and had my mood swings.

I tried my best not to cry in front of him as I went out of the washroom ten minutes later. Arnav was waiting for the door to open.

"I am sorry." He said as soon as he saw me.

"It is okay." I said and went to the kitchen. My eyes were still glassy.

"I said I am sorry. I really did not mean it." Arnav said following me to the kitchen.

"And I said it was ok." I said. A lone tear escaped my eyes.

"Then tell me why you are crying."

"It is nothing."

"Tell me." He demanded.

"You might not have missed me, but I missed you like anything. I had to deal with him and if it was not for Sam, Anya, Karan and Ria I would not have even be able to speak."

"Who are you talking about?"

"Your dad. I met him twice. First when I had gone out for dinner with Sam and Anya and then yesterday. Both the time he accused me of cheating on you."

"I will kill that son of a..." Before he could complete the sentence, I interrupted.

"Don't complete it Arnav."

"Why did you not tell me earlier?"

"I did not want you to think of me instead of concentrating on the game."

"I love you Khushi and I missed you every second."

"I love you too." I said as I rested my head in his chest.

"I think it is time to visit him." He said.

"Maybe, but not today."

"Why not?"

"I feel like staying at home today."

"And why does my pretty girl want that?"

"Because... I do not feel like spoiling a good day."

"Okay then. It is not that I am dying to meet him. What should we do today?" He asked me.

"Today? What time is it?" I questioned and he had a look at his watch.

"Eleven thirty two."

"What do you want for breakfast?"

"A sandwich?"

"Oh come on Arnav, you just returned to your homeland after one and a half months and you want a sandwich. I don't believe it."

"Actually I am returning after one and a half months to my girlfriend and I want to spend most of the time with her."

"Stay with her until she goes for work next."

"Maybe I can persuade her to stay home for some days."

"No because you have to report back."

"Right."

"Okay, I'll make some good Indian breakfast."

"Are you sure about making breakfast? It is already noon and I feel like having lunch." He said while I was picking out some ingredients.

"Lunch? I forgot it is noon already."

"Do you have chicken in there?" He asked pointing at the refrigerator.

"Yeah, that is the only thing that never goes out of stock here."

"In that case we could prepare some chicken biryani. I love it, you need not worry I know how to make that."

"You cook?"

"Yeah I do. I have been living alone all these years and have learned to do that. I promise I am a better cook than you are. Chicken biryani is my specialisation."

"It doesn't hurt you if I say I know to make it too. Does it?"

"Wow that is great."

"I'll take out the ingredients and you can start cooking."

"You do that; I will be back after a shower." He said and ran upstairs before I could respond.

Did he just leave me alone in the kitchen? Well, I will wait until he returns. I switched on the television and started watching some random songs.

Around twelve fifteen he came down.

"You are watching the TV?"

"Yeah."

"What about the biryani?"

"You start preparing. I have the ingredients there. In the meantime I will have a bathe." I said pointing at the kitchen counter.

"You just can't do that to me."

"You know something. I can and I will." I said before entering my room and locking the door behind me.

Arnav was at the same point where I was previously. The only difference was, he was watching a film.

"I've taken out some things needed. Now that we are equal, shall we begin?" He asked as soon as he saw me and I nodded.

"Sure."

"I'll deal with the chicken." Arnav said and the doorbell rang.

"Who could that be?" Arnav and I asked each other.

"Ria?" He said next.

"No she is visiting her relatives. Maybe Anya?"

"I don't think Rishabh will be leaving her anytime soon."

"Both of them maybe."

"The chances are rare." Arnav said and I went to open the door to solve the mystery.

"Arnav, have a look at whom we have here." I said as I opened the door to see Sam standing in front of me.

"Who?" Arnav asked coming into the living room.

"Bro, you are here? Now I know why she would not pick up her phone." Sam said hugging his best friend.

"How come you are here?" Arnav asked him.

"I would not have been here interrupting your privacy if she would have answered her phone. I tried calling my sisters like ten times today and she did not even answer once. I tried calling Anya too and got the same response. I thought something happened to then and so came in to check."

"Very nice of you to look out for them."

"I know I have to because I have two wonderful sisters."

"And we have one wonderful brother." I said side hugging him.

"So what are you two up to?" Sam asked after we had settled down.

"Speaking of that, we were planning on cooking and since you are here you can contribute too."

"I am ready to help."

The lunch was ready by two and we had quality time together. Sam was a great guy and he needed to find someone to be with soon. Maybe I could find someone for him.

Sam left the two of us alone by around six thirty, six hours after he had arrived. Arnav said that he was taking me out for dinner and he told me that, wherever he was taking me this time, we would not meet his dad.

I got a a call from Ria while I was getting ready. She asked me how the surprise went. I told her that because it was Arnav and he had been nice to me I had postponed my ideas of killing her.

"Are you ready to go?" I heard Arnav ask.

"Yeah. Give me a second more." I said adjusting my green and yellow dupatta in front of the mirror.

"Gorgeous." Arnav said standing beside me in front of the mirror.

"Thanks." I blushed when he said that.

"Is it a designer piece, I mean just look at how it is."

I turned to face him in shock.

"Did you mean my dupatta?" I asked and he nodded.

"What did you think?"

"Nothing, leave it." I said picking up my clutch.

"Let's go?" I asked.

"Sure, wait can you get me a dictionary?"

"Dictionary? You mean the book with the word meanings?" I asked just to make sure that whether he actually wanted it.

"Yeah, the same."

"Why?"

"I want to look up for a word better than the usual amazing', gorgeous', beautiful' and all that can describe you better."

If I thought I blushed while he said gorgeous, oh my, I was wrong. This time my cheeks reddened, so much that I resembled a ripe tomato.

"Let's go." I said walking away from him as fast as I could."

"Here are the keys." Arnav said handing over my precious keys to me.

"Thanks."

"Allow me." He said opening the door of his car for me.

As he was about to get into the car, he got a call.

"Who was that?" I asked him as he started the car.

"My manager."

"You have one? I never knew." I told him truthfully.

"Yeah. At times, I too forget that I have one.

"What did he want?"

"He wanted to know whether I was free tonight. Some company wants me to be their ambassador." He said casually.

"What did you say?"

"The truth. I said that I am taking my girlfriend for dinner and so it was not possible."

"Good to know." I said and he drove off.
