episode 185
for me this episode has a perfect pearl in it. that moment when i realised, i was looking at a fabulous actor, not just a terrifically attractive man who swept me away with his every word, move, smile, cocked eyebrow. no, this here was an actor. of the kind people talk about for decades afterwards. in him the potential to be greater than perhaps any actor i'd ever seen. so completely he became his character. eliminating all distance, and so powerful his sensing of his character.
somewhere here was the point when it hit me.
I know you've spoken of this amazing moment before. For me, I felt i was in the midst of a mesmeric performance for the first time, when he gets to know Khushi is engaged to Shyam. That whole day... Iram Nasir from Pakistan made a wonderful one hour long youtube video covering all the ASR moments from that day spread over two or three episodes. (It's a pity star plus wasted no time and went after her videos with a vengeance, the girl had some fantastic hi quality footage). Anyway... he was simply stellar for me that whole day. I'm wild about those moments even right now reliving!! That was my first time😳.So when i got here, to the terrace door, i was astounded and most deeply affected, yes, but it was a furthering of the fabulousness from this divine man for me.However, I feel that i couldn't - and still can't - say that it's the best of performances i've ever seen...i find it uncomfortable to make comparisons, and come up with best evers in any case, especially in something as intangible and as copious as performances can be. Maybe it's just me. I love this performance immensely. And this actor. And this world he created and continues to, for me. But that's really it... that's all i need. I'm in!Coming back to the episode, it really is a tour-de-force moment, you are so right, at that terrace door. The face, a map of life written all over it... fluid, intense, multi dimensional, pitch perfect. Emotions, so many, and not even for an infinitesimal moment did he let it any of it drop. Sensational stuff. Presence of the divine. Probably the most dramatic moment of the show performed with such extraordinary subtlety!!!he has reached the terrace door. he pauses, thinks, smiles and turns toward the door. what a moment, he is all set to tell the girl he gives a faraq for... why it makes a difference.
one swift move and the door is open and he stands there, half smile on his face, so eager and confident of his next move. he has seen her going toward the terrace... she is here just here, he's come for her. what a moment in the life of the fractured and broken asr... a boy who was robbed of his trust, his faith, his everything on another night of a wedding.
but tonight he will claim his life, his heartbeat, back from that calamity, with a beautiful thing called faraq.⭐️ ⭐️
he'd been delayed on his way to her, his sister needed to have her wound bandaged. ironic isn't it, the woman whose words had triggered had made him decide he had to tell khushi about this feeling right now, because of her he is held back, and will witness something that wouldn't have transpired if he'd made it to the terrace on time.
but finally he does look the way he'd seen her go and say, "aaj main khushi ko batakar rahoonga... mujhe kyun faraq padta hai..."
today i will definitely tell her, why it makes a difference to me. goosebumps. the voice dips at mujhe kyun... and becomes completely a thought within. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
and he is on his way, his sister looks at him: something in his way, his walk says this is no ordinary job he goes to do... she'd told him jao kaam khatam karke ao... go finish your work. he is so ready to do that.
then a crash echoes.
gust of wind lifts its head... how cruel that sound tonight, it used to tell him she's here nearby... and look what it shows him now.
he's confused, what's that? then shock begins to seep in along with a knock out confusion... what is he seeing?
crash of thunder...
slowly the eyes register the emotion rising in him... he is seeing this he can't believe... the moments which will be etched in his mind, indelible. "chhap gaya hai dimag mein, mit nahin sakta."
music reflects the inferno beginning within...⭐️ ⭐️
he stands speechless watching this unbearable picture...
what a sight to behold. khushi clasped in shyam's arms.
what did he see there i wonder... his father betraying his mother... di's happiness ending... his love plastered against another man's body...
did he for an instant feel the way his mother might have felt? did he empathise completely in that instant? did he think of ending it all?
somewhere he began to die... you could see it in his eyes. the man who flew to rage at the slightest, spoke not a word, he just stood there dumbfounded, emotions entering and killing him bit by bit. ⭐️ ⭐️
there have been many debates about the irrational behaviour of his, why didn't he ask her, etc. isn't that the normal thing to do? but was there anthing normal in that moment? especially for one who had stayed in his shell, his fort faraq nahin padta for years and was about to make his first tentaive move to come out. that too because of what happened to di and what di said... oh how delicate his state of mind. how extra rational his feelings... the always rational asr had never felt this before.
and in that very moment, of course, life had to strike.
"hum sirf aapko chahte hain, khushi ji, hum rani sahiba ko apni patni nahin mantey..." shyam's declaration rend the night. i only want you, khushi ji, i don't consider rani sahiba to be my wife...
zoom to the man at the terrace door, where she'd stood one day and seen the truth of shyam, he sees what seems to be true and yet is anything but that. in it the seeds of a lie that will snuff all truth out. almost.
the structure of this episode was almost musical... pathos and tragedy at its core...
a sound effect... an inflection point, a note that hits his mind and heart.
he's shocked further, his eyes show that... calibrated... layer by layer horror approaches.
another gust of wind blows through the barren night...
his eyes move a bit as though he is trying to piece this thing together.
"aur nahi iss shadi ka humare liye koi matlab hai... humara yakeen kijiye, khushi ji, hum sirf aap se pyaar karte hain aur bhaut sara pyaar kart ehain..." shyam is unstoppable, this marriage has no meaning for me, believe me, khushi ji, i only love you and love you so much..
imagine, he had to hear that.
it rips through him... a beautiful visual device shows his state...
crack of thunder, world crashing around him. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
another note that finds its mark.
drums. and why do they remind me of that gunshot?
it is a nightmare unfolding, a new nightmare. this time it happens right before his eyes and within earshot. he knows every detail of it... who will die this time?
she pushes him away... he waits... maybe hoping to hear something that will feel ok, make his world stop rocking.
"koi matlab nahin hai..." doesn't mean a thing, she seethes.
"kuchh bhi nahin, khushi ji... sachi," nothing, khsuhi ji, shyam avers, really.STUNNING, THIS IMAGE!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️the most damning words leave khushi's mouth now...
"agar aap ke liye yeh rishta koi maine nahin rakhta to aap yeh shadi tod kun nahin dete... chor dijiye anjali ji ko..."
if this marriage means nothing to you, then why don't you break thsi marriage... levae anjali ji!!
and perhaps that's when he finally dies.AND THIS ONE TOO... BREATHTAKING THAT INTENSITY OF LOOK!!
this is the girl who means all to him...
at last the thunder and drums stop and emotions flow. he shatters. and shatters some more... on a turn...
as his face told a thousand stories of disillusionment, of killing hurt, i realised i was not just looking at a gorgeous sexy man... i was looking, as i said when i started, at an actor.
i sat up on my bed, the words thespian went through my head... his was a rendition of the classic greats... a simple turn and all the feelings in the face, in the stance of the body... as it's been ever since he's known he must tell her... faraq kyun padta hai.
and his sister did tell him... no matter what don't let her go. so how could he?
a wonderful episode constructed with great care. so many layers. apart from that magnificent terrace sequence, where a nightmare returned, the episode had a dream in it, a confession, and some beautiful bondning and dialogues.
the intercutting used between asr on the one hand taking a decision and walking with a happy purposeful air and shyam shocking khushi on the terrace and then inundating her with crazy talk of love, was thrilling.
let's talk of anjali and asr. a brother and a sister connect, sister says key things about loving and losing people."di, aap kabhi mujhe maa ke tarah..." di, don't leave me like maa... asr's fear lives close by within. the very thought of di in an accident had him highlu agitated, when he saw her alive but hurt, that old fear of losing people came charging...
i am here with you i will never leave you... i am here, i promise never... promised his di.
he hugged her tight again.
anjali let the words come from her heart: when the car was going off, i thought i might never see my chhote... sabse badkar humare khud ke zindai se badkar hamare liye tum ho. you mean more to me than everyone else, even more than my life.
"chhotey, yaad hai uss din hum tumhe kya kah rahe the... ki kal ka ki bharosa nahin hai... kal kissi ne nahin dekha... aur kal hi kya... aaj ke baare mein bhi kissiko kuchh nahin pata... iss liyejab, kabhi dil mein kuchh aaye na... jaise aaye... waise bole dena chahie...
varna shayad... har pal poori tarah se jeena chahiye, chhotey, kyunki pata nahin chalta kaunsa pal akhri ho...
aur hum jinse sabse zyada pyaar karte hain.. jo hamare sabse kareeb hita hai usse kabhi jaane nahin dena chahiye... kissi bhi haalat mein... aur kabhi koi baat bahut bewakoofi wali bhi lagey toh bhi sir... sirf apni dil ki sunni chahiye."
chhotey, remember what i told you the other day... that who can depend on tomorrow. who has seen tomorrow. and why tomorrow, who knows even about today...
oh that last line so prophetic.
and so she'd told him, whatever comes to your mind you should say, the moment it comes, say, who knows what might happen... and when the last moment might come...
and those that are close to our heart, we must never let them go, no matter what. even if something feels foolish, we must only listen to our hearts.
i did feel the dialogues got a bit heavy and daljeet struggled with the words, but while they were meant to augment plot, there's important meaning in them that i rather enjoyed the thoughts.I agree with you a one hundred percent. And i have to add that all the stuff she said there didn't feel natural in that moment to me. Yes, the thought behind the words, absolutely true and wonderful, but felt planted so he could find his way back to Khushi after this traumatic episode of dear beloved sister. It led to some fabulously fine moments though...UFFF ones...so i won't go on! The dreamy Rabba Ve that followed was lyrical...completely spot on and beautifully crafted. That slight turn of head, and a glorious glance to the poolside as he remembers the mehndi kiss there, was pure MAGIC!!! OH mY gOD!!! He was Brilliant...and so was she, up there on the terrace by herself. And that walk. OH mY DEaR gOD!!!! That walk towards the stairs, up the stairs, down the corridor, all of it KILLED ME.
as he left his sister's room and she made her way to the terrace, they did one and the same thing. they dreamed of each other. remembering tender moments. when they'd yearned, and felt, and wanted each other... what if i lost you, wrap me in fairy lights, oh i want you to kiss me, i want to kiss you, come hold my hand, and let me undo your hair... a swirl of memories where two young lovers smiled and waited with bated breath for that special moment when it would all come together ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️. she thought he'd called her to the terrace. he'd seen her headed there and was ready to follow her.
lost in her world of dreams, she waits for him... he walks to her... and a hand approaches her shoulder.
alas the trap had been laid by a knave. who was determined not to let her go without telling her today. irony again... shyam too was waiting to confess his love. and he too was going to do it today itself... just like asr. and he will say things that really asr must have meant to... from the day i saw you in licknow i fell for you... day and night i think of you. i love you and i love you lots. shyam said that to her? poor girl... it was an evening that was fair to no one. not asr, not khushi, not anjali. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
when she feels the hand, her eyes widen... she turns slowly with lowered gaze all ready for her lover, she lifts her eyes and freezes in shock. it is shyam.
asr climbs a flight of steps...
and he sees his di coming down... he decides to fix her bandage.
on the terrace, the horror story has started to unfold. shyam is adamant that he loves khushi. she is shocked, repulsed, affronted.
"khushi ji, hum jaantey the aap humse milne zaroor ayengi," khushi ji, i knew you'd certainly come to meet me.
"aapne woh likha tha?" you wrote that?
"toh aap ko kya laga?" so what did you think. a play in shyam's voice. his cunning, knowing side on display at telling points. a psycho dimension is being accentuated in his character. he knew khsuhi would think that note on the mirror was from asr.
this device of a cold voice alternating with holier than thou sounding "good" shyam voice and lover like "desperate" shyam voice is used often in this sequence, and abhas has worked hard to create a more complete picture of thsi character, give it a believably lunatic and scary rim, but somehow, it never did get me somehow. the acting lacked something. Acting belonged to the cuckoo club in the entire episode.😆 😆 What about the two "pieces to camera", one behind the pillar in the living room and the other at the matka shop???? 😆 consistently. only in the very beginning did i really find shyam interestingly portrayed.
as she goes to leave... he yanks her back... "nahin"... he insists she listen. in his tirade a warning, don't make me hur you again. so there was a reference ti babu ji... possibly to be picked up later, but it was finally lost.AMAZING IMAGES!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️the saddest thing is that while khushi is horrified at the sickening claims of shyam, angry and disgusted, she completely misses seeing who comes to the doorway. ⭐️ ⭐️OH MY GOD INDUS!! THIS IS FANTASTIC!!! 👏 👏 👏 👏she is so concentrated on shyam, she has no idea what's happened just to one side of her.
the man whose confession she waited for, came, saw, and was devastated. 👏 👏
with that her dreams and his dreams crashed and turned into a living nightmare.
"chhoriye hume," khushi.
"nahin chhorenge, hum aap se bahut pyaar karte hain..." shyam.
"humne kaha chhoriye hume!" khsuhi.
if only asr had walked in at this point. but he didn't.
Issk kudiye 😃Where shall you take meWith all your hateSimmering in the whirlpool of your loveFor you too will drown in thisBlissful passionWith me!😆
Episode-194
Shyam comes to Anjali to incite her against Arnav and Khushi's marriage. He tells her, what kind of marriage it is; they came wearing garlands and told that they got married. Anjali assents him, what Arnav did was wrong. She tells him to call the family members to gather in the hall. She wants to take a decision on Arnav and Khushi's marriage. Shyam exults, thinking that anjali will nullify the marriage. But he still doesn't know that his evil plan always back fires him.
All are gathered in the hall. When Khushi comes there, Arnav looks at her intently. Can he feel the pain, what she has been going through! may be he does, cause his heart still beats for her. So that he went to Anjali to tell her to accept their marriage as soon as possible.
Anjali says in stern voice,
Khushiji, you won't be accepted as a daughter in law of our family.
All are dumbfounded to hear this. Shyam smiles derisively. Arnav retorts back. But Anjali stops him. cause she is not finished yet..
It's not your office, it's our home.
Anjali moves forward to Khushi and tells her that she can't be considered as the DIL of Raizada family until she doesn't complete the ritual of griha pravesh and other customs too.
Khushi looks at Arnav instantaneously.
I wonder what she thought? Did she ask for his assent? did she want to ask her, if it is a six months contract marriage, then what is the need of this rituals and customs!
Except Shyam, all sighs a relief to hear this. Shyam should realize by now that his sham will never fulfill. Nani giving her assuring nod first. It means she and Anjali decided it together.
NK seems really happy at Anjali's decision. He is really a true friend of Khushi. He was interested on Khushi, but as long as she turned to her sister in law, he just changed his behavior towards her. And we saw later, how he always supported her. During Arnav's kidnapping time, he was the one who always be with her and stood there by her side, when Shyam tried to delineate her wrongly.
Anjali tells Arnav and Khushi that, though they have hurt them, but she can't defile the tradition and customs of the family. She gives Khushi shadi ka jora. Khushi gets overwhelmed to see her bridal outfit. First she looks at the costumes and then to Arnav. Her eyes get teary, but there is a slight smile glints on her face too. Again she looks at Arnav, the man she loves, her rajkumar, but suddenly in a tumultuous night he turned to a tyrant.
The image of her dream wedding what is imprinted in her mind for eons, now robbed by a tempest. The repercussion takes her to the moment when she and Payal was talking about their dream wedding and their prince charming.
Aur anth mei rajkumar a jata hai,
Shadi ka joda lekar
And at last the prince comes with the bridal attire.
By putting the veil on her head Payal told her that she got married to her prince charming and lives happily ever after.
My heart says that you will get all the happiness after your marriage
Her mom's words are creating havoc in her heart. Right now her amma's words seem wrong, but it will prove true soon. She also said
It doesn't matter, but a life partner should be good.
By looking at her bridal attire, she recollects her mom's words and smiles in teary eyes. She knows what the meaning of marriage is. She once told Lavanya that a bond of marriage is not just a simple bonding, but it is such a relation that the whole world respects.
I know there is someone somewhere has made for both of us. Now let's see who gets her prince charming first, you or me?
She remembers how Arnav blackmailed her to marry him for six months. He took her to the mandir and married her with so much contempt.
Maelstrom of emotions is whirling in her mind. Her heart must be felt heavier than the rain laden clouds.
Khushi is sitting in their room contemplating her bridal costume. Arnav gets in the room, he looks at khushi . Without saying a word, he sits on the chaise with his laptop, pretends to work. But he is actually cringing inwardly. Khushi stares at him for a while. The remnant of her earlier anger instigates her. She moves towards him angrily. But she can't say anything as Anjali comes there right then. She tells them to get ready soon as they are waiting for the griha pravesh rasam. She gives khushi the jewelry to wear.
Khushi comes to the room wearing her bridal lehenga. She sits down in front of the dresser and starts to put on the jewelry. When she was putting the bangles her look goes to Arnav through the mirror. Lost in reminisces, she thinks of her dream wedding.
Jab humari shadi hongi, tab hum khoob sajengi shola shingar karegi. Shadi ka laal jora aur khoob sare zebar. Itna dhoom dham hongi, ki sab dekhterehe jayegi
when I'll get married, I'll dress up so well. There will be a red bridal outfit and lots of ornaments. it will be so grand that everybody will blow away.
She becomes crestfallen thinking about her dream wedding. What she thought and what happened. She puts the heavy necklace on her neck, but she winces in pain when she gets hurt while tightening the strings of the necklace. Arnav dithers to hear her whimper. So he still cares. Apprehension clouds the hazel depth. But Arnav just leaves her alone. His pain is also tantamount like her. Neither he can comfort her nor he can pacifies his own clamorous heart.
All are gathered in the hall for the griha pravesh rasam. Payal places the rice bowl on the threshold. Anjali brings khushi for the rasam. She is coruscating through her red-green lehenga, heavy necklace, ear rings, mang tika and a big nose ring. Arnav contemplates his beautiful bride assiduously. Khushi, the girl for whom his heart beaten for the first time. Seeing her in bridal outfit how can he remain insouciant. Her mesmerizing beauty always takes his breath away. Anjali makes Khushi stand beside arnav at the threshold. She puts the tika on their forehead, does the aarti and tells them to get in. when khushi spills the rice from the bowl and intends to get in, Anjali stops them. She tells Arnav to carry her in his arm, to complete the rituals, as it's the family tradition. Khushi looks at Arnav in perturbation. She tells them that after getting in, they have to wait for a while before going to their room. Arnav asks her, is it necessary to do all this? Anjali tells, it's their family tradition. So he must do it. Mami quips, how would they know about the rasam, as they were busy in their own marriage when Akash carried payal inside the house. Nani rebukes Arnav to do as instruction.
Arnav picks khushi in his arm. Khushi looks at him in consternation and puts her shaky hands around his neck. Arnav eyes are still, he is not looking at Khushi at all. Where Khushi is starring at her husband intently. Since their first encounter in sheesh mahal, he has carried her in his arms several times. But today the feelings must be different. Today she is his bride, he has all the rights to touch her. Gazing at his eyes, she is feeling comfort in his assuring arms. The scene was marvelous and the sweet, romantic note in the BG made the scene more sublime.
Mami comes to Shyam and tells him that she knows what he is thinking right now. Shyam was exasperating to see, how Khushi became Arnav's wife in front of the world. I got ambiguous for a moment, did mami suspected anything. She is a smart cookie we know. But no, she just expressed her frustration that how younger sister entered the house with the older one.
Khoon bhari tang ke sath phatti saree feeree feeree, feeree.
Anajli tells Shyam to come with her as she needs his help.
After carrying her in, Arnav puts Khushi down impetuously. She whimpers in pain, as her ear ring gets stuck with his jacket. Khushi tries to extricate it .He seems mad for a moment, but holds her hand and slowly releases his ear ring. It happened with them before. Then not only her ear ring, but her dupatta also got stuck with his shirt. And he released it lovingly that time. But today in spite of so much hate Arnav's heart stirred in her mere proximity. it also reprimands how they are bonded together that it won't be easy for him to let her go from his life. Again the beautifully taken shot and Barun and Sanaya's perfect expression with awesome BG score made the scene magical.
Anjali is decorating Arnav and Khushi's suhaag raat bed with the help of Shyam. Shyam is grimacing in anger. Bravo Anjali, you did a plausible job, by making Shyam decorate their suhaag raat bed. Though he retorts her, but Anjali wants to do it, as she did it for Akash and Payal also. The undeniable truth now strikes shyam's mind. Arnav's declaration is reverberating in his mind
Khushi is my wife now. And you can't do anything. Don't try to go near her. Don't even dare.
Shyam denies to decorate. Anjali tells him, they have to do it, as it's the tradition. She thinks he is mad for the same reason of hers. Poor girl I wish if she would know the real reason of his anger. She gives him the flower basket and moves to lit the candle. Shyam is squeezing the flowers with his hand in anger. Now he has to decorate Arnav and Khushi's suhaag raat bed. Uff I'm so happy! Let me just dance at shyam's distraught state.
Plz ignore typos.
Some of the scenes I had to take from Zoha's VM, as so many scenes are not there in you tube.
