Chapter 36: Hunter's Prey
Geet mumbled under her breath only to be confused why she was angry in the first place. Well, she certainly was happy Maan wasn't shamelessly displaying his affection in front of everyone but her heart screamed she did love it. His open display puffed up her ego knowing he was only hers and he wasn't ashamed of declaring it openly. Giggling at her wayward thoughts she picked the plate of flower strings. Tucking the plate to her chest and turned around only to bump into someone.
"Oh I'm so sor—" she began to apologize only to bite back the rest of the words. There sat that chudial, her face contorted faking more than necessary pain.
"Ouch!" she screamed loudly rubbing her hand vigorously. "Oh no I think I am scarred for life. Ayyo please help me somebody!"
"Dramebaaz kahin ki!" she mumbled under her breath. Not wanting the whole house in panic, she sat beside her after keeping the flower plate on the side. "Oh I am so sorry," Geet apologized pretending concern.
"Aap dekh ke nahi chal sakti," she spat back annoyed. "See now I am not even able to move my arms," she said gathering crocodile tears.
Hearing loud hollering, people including Maan turned around to see what happened. Everyone began to gather around Geet and Sonia wondering why Sonia was creating such ruckus.
"Oh God now I am paralyzed for life," Sonia continued to lament.
"Oh please stop it Sonia, I didn't even bump into you with such intensity," Geet barked irritated at Sonia's antics.
"Kya hua?" someone from the crowd asked giving Sonia once again an opportunity to open her mouth.
"Ayyo main kya kahoon," she began only to shut up by Geet.
Before Sonia could display once again her over acting skills, Geet bent to shut her mouth with her hands. Glaring at her to keep quiet, she turned around to sweetly smile, "Nahi Auntyji, kuch nahi. She slipped by mistake. Main doctor hoon, main dekh lungi."
Maan made his way into the crowd and frowned seeing Geet smiling sweetly while Sonia struggled to take Geet's hand off her mouth.
"Aap log jayiye na. Bahut kuch kaam baaki hai. I'll take care of her," Geet smiled only to smirk evilly when she eyed Sonia. People murmured and began to disperse except for Maan.
"Geet is everything alright?" he asked sounding worried seeing Geet almost gag Sonia.
"Ji bilkul. Everything is totally under control," she lied flawlessly.
"Nahi!" Sonia screamed managing to pry Geet's hand off her mouth. "Oh can't you see I am severely injured," she screeched much to Geet's irritation.
"Oh I'm so sorry. I didn't realize," Maan apologized not really catching up to her overacting.
"Aap please help keejiye na Maan," she drawled shamelessly batting her eyelids and stretching her hand. Maan was about to help her when his eyes fell on his fuming wife and almost instinctively he jerked his hand back. Getting on the wrong side of Geet wasn't even the last thing he wanted to do.
"Err…" he cleared his throat. "I mean aap worry mat keejiye Soniaji, my wife here shall surely help you," he said with a smile.
"Haan, dikhao where does it hurt you?" she said grabbing Sonia's hand where she claimed to have injured. "Aap jayiye na Maan, I got this," she smiled showing her teeth.
"Ji," he smiled knowingly before leaving the duo. He knew how much Geet despised Sonia. He did want to interfere and fuse the tensed situation but he knew better to leave his wife to settle her scores. Getting caught in women politics wasn't pretty especially when it involved instances like now. Who would dare want to mess with his sherni wife while she was out on prowl, certainly not him!
Meanwhile, Geet, who had clutched Sonia's hand tighter than normal, knit her brows in irritation. She slighted twisted Sonia's hand making her wince in pain and inched closer to her face. "Listen up Ms. Pati snatcher!" she barked, her eyes spitting fire. "One more time I see you flittering around my husband I will not think twice before murdering you with my own hands. Doctor hoon main, I know how to save a life as well as…" she left the word hanging before jerking her away. Huffing away stand of hair that was falling on her face, Geet hurried away without another look.
Sonia stared open-mouthed allowing Geet's words to sink in. Boy, she had seriously misjudged Geet's capability! Image of being murdered by Geet flashed making her shudder. She shook her head violently trying break free of the image while promising to never even glance in Maan's direction, especially with Geet hovering around.
Maan tried to muffle his laughter watching the drama unfold in front of him. He was really annoyed with Sonia falling over him at every possible instance. Of course, initially he had used these instances in his favor to make Geet jealous but it certainly was getting uncomfortable. He didn't want to rudely push her away and had planned to softly tell her off but Geet had beaten him. She had showed Sonia her place and the way she had done it was nothing less than enjoyable. He straightened seeing some aunty pass weird looks as he giggled by himself and walked away as if nothing happened.
Geet hurried down the hallway mentally noting down the things she still had to finish before the main pundit arrived. She was about to pass another huge pillar when she felt someone yanking her hand and making her twirl. Frightened and shocked by the sudden pull she gasped loudly before landing safely on a solid chest. By now she was very familiar with this personal cushion. She fluttered her eyes open to look up from the crook of his neck. He steadied her making her lean on the pillar while he inched closer allowing his frame to almost cover her.
"Tsk tsk tsk Mrs. Khurana. Kyun uss bechari ko dara di?" he asked with a devilish smirk on his.
"Voh bechari nahi hai Mr. Khurana," she shot back with a glare.
"Green-eyed monster on the prowl, is it?" he winked grinning widely.
"Na.. nahi toh," she stammered unable to meet his piercing gaze.
"Jhoot bolna buri baat hai darling," his words dropped to a whisper as he inched his face closer to her allowing his hot breath to generously fall on her lips. "Vaise bhi maanna padega, you looked so hot when you threatened her," he rasped his eyes refusing to leave her lips.
"Maan," she pleaded her cheeks reddening due to his words as well as his gaze.
"Haan bolo," he commanded slipping his hands around her bare waist before plastering her to him. She gasped at the sudden movement as she felt herself perfectly molding into his frame. A cold shiver ran down her spine as she became aware of their position while her body automatically reacted to his touch.
"Maan," she began only for it sound like a moan. "Koi dekh lega," she managed to utter in spite of her dazzled state.
"Tum meri patni ho," he declared slightly lifting her chin to face him. Her heart skipped a beat "Dekh bhi lega toh they'll turn around and leave to give us our private time," he winked.
"Maan," she whined slightly hitting his chest. "Chodiye na, I need to go," she said trying to wiggle out of his grip.
"Hmm… teekhai, ek shart pe," he said locking his arms behind her. "Mujhe voh chahiye," he casually declared.
"Kya?" Geet frowned unable to catch his words.
"Voh Geet," he stressed his gaze reaching her quivering lips. An instant blush crept her cheeks as the meaning of his conditioned dawned upon her. "Mujhe voh dedo and you are free to go."
"Mm…main nahi samjhi," she stuttered pretending not to understand his condition.
"Tsk tsk, don't play innocent darling," he closed in whispering near her ear.
Geet inhaled sharply as she became aware of his breath falling on her skin causing tingling sensations throughout her body. She could feel his lips lingering mere inches away from her ear.
"Chalo jaldi karo, tumhe buhut saare kaam baaki hai," he urged eyeing her lips.
Geet bit her lower lip unable to think of a way to escape his grip. A single brush of his lips with hers had sent her reeling and now he was openly asking for a kiss. 'Kahan phas gayi main Babaji!' she thought as she felt a thousand butterflies fluttering in her stomach. She slowly inched closer scared and excited at the same time. Her hands reached up to his neck before clutching the lapels of his kurta. Her eyes refused to leave his dark chocolate ones that caused her to completely drown in them. With her lips slightly parted, she moved to capture his perfectly bow-shaped ones.
Something felt slightly prickly causing her to scrunch her eyebrows in confusion. She fluttered her eyes open to find herself kissing his cheek while he had his head slightly turned.
"Maan puttar!" She heard it this time. She stumbled backwards fearing they were caught.
"Main aa raha hoon!" Maan groaned, peeved at the sudden interruption. He suddenly heard somebody call for him and jerked his head, much to his exasperation causing her to kiss on his cheeks. He felt her retreat back and tried to tighten his grip around her but it was too late. She had fluidly slipped away, blushing and giggling at the same time.
"Geet! That wasn't even a proper kiss!" he complained like a distressed child denied chocolate after being consistently promised one.
"Well too bad Mr. Khurana, the shart was just to kiss you once and I have done that already," she gushed showing her dimples. "Better luck next time!" she said running away before she could be imprisoned in his embrace.
