Chapter 6 – First Fight

It had been 3 weeks from the time they came back from their honeymoon .. Kria and Rey both had settled into a sweet routine of their own .. and it was something which they both were getting comfortable with ..

Every morning Rey would bring a red rose for her when he went jogging and place it on her dressing table .. the smile which emerged on her lips when she saw the rose was heavenly for Rey .. it was something which made sure he had a great day ahead .. a beautiful start for his day ..

Kria had joined her Dad's firm's Mumbai branch .. Even though her office was miles apart from Rey's office .. he would drive her and drop her and sometimes if possible picked her up in the evening as per their work schedule ..

Kria knew driving but was not comfortable driving on the Mumbai roads .. so the days when Rey was not able to drop her , she would go with the driver ..

The best part for Kria was the dinner time .. it reminded her of her own house a lot .. her time with her Dad and Bua .. Singhannia's generally made it a point to have dinner together with the family and it was the time when everyone recounted the happenings of their day and every day some funny incident would definitely crop up .. Initially Kria would simply be quiet and listen to everyone .. but her father in law definitely made it a point to ask her every night how her day was .. just like her Dad .. it really made her feel good .. so soon she too joined in the conversations ..

Another thing which always made Kria excited and a bit nervous about dinner time was that she would sit next to Rey and during the dinner , he would definitely do something which would make her blush .. either he would simply hold her hand under the table .. or gently rub his leg against hers .. or sometimes tickle her with his toes .. For the first few days she found it funny .. actually very kiddish .. but then she started enjoying it ..these small gestures often made her smile and blush ..

Later after the dinner , she and Rey often went for a walk in their garden .. or simply sat in the garden .. just enjoying the time with each other ..

"Kria , aaj ka plan yaad hai na .. I will pick you up sharp at 7 in the evening .. " Rey spoke as Kria got down from the car in front of her office ..

"Haan .. but just call me before that .. I have some important meetings today .. Papa ke koi bahut purane clients hain .. unke saath meeting hai .. "

"Ok .. "

"I booked the table for us .. I am eagerly waiting for the evening " Kria got a text message from Rey in the afternoon ..

She sighed looking at it ... she had been very busy since the moment she had stepped in the office .. Back to back meetings and calls had really drained her off all her energy ..

She was really tired and still there was so much pending work ..

"Rey .. please can we go tomorrow ?" she messaged him back hoping that Rey would understand her ..

"No .. I really want to go out for dinner with you today .. please .. please .. please .. just wrap up your work as soon as possible .. "

She really didn't know what to do .. so "Ok .. I will try " she replied him back and got busy with her work ..

Exhausted after the meeting she flopped on her chair in her cabin and rested her elbows on the table and held her head with her hands .. she was having a strong head ache ..

She checked the time .. 8 PM .. Oh God !!!

She quickly grabbed her cell which was lying on her table, to inform Rey that she was in a pro-longed meeting , her pale face turned to anxiety as she looked at the 20 missed calls from Rey ..

She immediately called him but his cell kept ringing .. she tried a number of times but he didn't pick up ..

She hit the back of her head on the head rest of her chair and let out a weary groan .. and closed her eyes ..

As she entered her house .. "Kria beta , tum bahut thaki thaki si lag rahi ho .. "

"Haan Ma , aaj woh thoda jyada kaam tha .."

"Ok .. koi baat nahi .. tum fresh ho jao .. I will send the food up to your room "

Kria smiled .. "Sab ne kha liya ?" she asked

"Haan .."

Her mother in law came a bit close to her .. "Bas Rey ne nahi khaya hai .. thoda gussa hai tumse " she said softly ..

Kria's smiled vanished .. as she looked at her mother in law with irritation brewing up in her mind ..

"Tum dono kha lo and aaram karo .. "

After Ramu Kaka kept the food and left their room .. Kria barged in the study where Rey was sitting on his laptop ..

"Aap aisa kaise kar sakte hain ?" she asked indignantly ..

Rey looked up totally shocked and confused with what she was talking about .. He should have been angry on her but here she was firing him and he had no idea for what .. "Tum kya bol rahi ho .. mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha hai ?" he was annoyed ..

"Aap ne Ma ko kyon bataya ki aap mujhse gussa hain"

"I couldn't help it .. I was really angry .." he turned back to his laptop ..

"Mujhe accha nahi laga .. yeh humare aapas ki baat hai .. We could have solved it between ourselves .. why do you have to involve others .. ?"

"Because , she is my Mom .."

"Haan .. isliye toh .. ab woh bekaar ki chinta karengi ki humare beech mein an ban ho gayi hai " she huffed ..

"Kria .. mujhe tumse koi baat nahi karni hai .. please "

She took a deep breath .. she knew she had been at fault .. and top of that she got angry with him for telling his mom about their issue .. "Rey I am sorry .. woh important meeting thi and mere dimaag se sach mein nikal gaya ki hum dinner ke liye jaane wale the .." her tone softened as she apologized ..

"I don't know how many times I called you and I waited for you for an hour in the parking lot .. damit .. " he spoke crossly typing away furiously on his laptop ..

"Why did you wait in the parking lot ?"

"Mera kaam jaldi khatam ho gaya tha .. so I thought I will surprise you .. so I came early and waited and called you .. "

"Oh , I didn't know .. I am sorry .."

"Maine kabhi apni zindagi mein kisika itna wait nahi kiya hai .. I felt like a fool .. " he snapped ..

"But Rey .. maine jaan bujh ke toh nahi kiya na .. and I am sorry ki aapko wait karna pada .. "

"Do you know how much I wanted to go for this dinner .. "

"Ya , I know .. even I wanted to .. but bahut kaam tha .. "

"So work is more important for you than me .. "

"Please Rey aisa nahi hai .. yeh client Papa ke purane client mein se the and then they left our firm to take services from some other CA firm .. and now again they have come back to us .. Papa told me to look into their matters personally .. and their accounts is a mess .. and its financial year ending plus they had some income tax raid at one of their offices .. so there was lot of work .. " she said everything slowly and clearly .. not that she was giving some excuse but this was the truth and she thought she must let Rey know all about it .. "I couldn't leave the discussions half- way .. I am sorry " she kept her hand on his shoulder gently ..

He slightly jerked his shoulder to remove her hand .. "Kria .. abhi mujhe akela rahena hai .. please " he said without looking at her once also ..

"Thik hai .. but aap apna gussa khane pe toh mat nikalo , Please dinner kar lijiye " she said meekly ..

"Mujhe bhuk nahi hai "

She saw the food on the table .. She never liked to waste food .. but she didn't know what to do .. she took 2 spoonfuls in her plate , ate it and then kept the rest as it is .. hoping that her mother in law doesn't ask her about why they didn't eat ..

Next morning when Kria woke up , there was no sign of Rey on the bed .. she immediately went to the study to check .. but he was not there too ..

There was no red rose on her dressing table ..

He had already left for office early without talking to her ..

She couldn't help but smile at the way her husband was behaving , just like a stubborn child ,when he doesn't get his way ..

Kria was not sure what Rey exactly expected from her .. She had told him the situation at office .. even apologized .. what more did he want .. why was he sulking , she didn't understand ..

From her side she did everything .. she tried to talk to him .. call him a number of times during the day .. even asked if he would like to go out for dinner again .. but he would simply answer in one or two words and be with himself ..

She was losing her own patience .. but she didn't want to let the family know at least from her side that they were still not on talking terms .. she didn't want the family to be worried about them .. she was thankful that even Rey thought likewise because in front of the family he would behave normal with her ..

She decided to give him time and space by not bothering him too much .. she simply did a few things which she hoped would be noticed by him ..

Rey had been very angry with her on that evening and more when she shouted at him for telling his Mom ..

But later when he thought , he knew she was right .. he knew his mom would get worried about them immediately .. So he kept his anger to himself didn't make his family realize that their squabble had still not resolved ..

He knew he was behaving like an idiot to be angry with Kria .. she had apologized a number of times .. but he simply couldn't let go of his ego .. he had been waiting so eagerly to spend time with her and she had just not bothered about him .. Even though he knew it was not true , she had been genuinely busy , he was not ready to admit it to himself ..

But her little gestures didn't go unnoticed by him .. in fact he loved them .. his anger had faded long back ..

Every evening he would receive a red rose kept on his table in the study with a small note .. Sometimes it would have just a plain "I am Sorry" .. sometimes it would have a few lines of some poem or song depicting regret ..

He had forgiven and forgotten about what had happened between them but he didn't know why but he was still acting obstinate towards her ..

It had been the 7 th day since their fight .. he entered his study in the evening to find the usual red rose .. he quickly picked the note to read what was written in it today .. only to be shocked to see it blank ..

"Aap aur kitne din tak mujhse gussa rahenge , please mujhe bata dijiye "

Her voice almost startled him as if he was caught red handed .. the note fell from his hand and he turned to face her ..

She was leaning casually on the door and looking straight at him ..

"Mujhe mujhe pata nahi .. " he stammered ..

She sighed "Thik hai , Accha hua maine maali kaka se kaha ki garden mein, baaki sab hatake , bas laal gulab ke paudhe hi lagaye .. "

This was so unexpected for Rey that first he got confused as to what Kria was commenting on and when he understood , he just couldn't stop himself from laughing out loud .. he actually sat on the chair and laughed and she simply looked on ..

"Itna bhi koi accha joke nahi mara maine " she said ..

He stopped laughing and kept smiling at her .. then pulled her and made her sit on the other chair ..

"Haan .. tum hamesha PJ maarti ho .. " he said still holding her hands .. "I am sorry for not talking to you for so long ... "

Finally she smiled .. "Its ok .. "

"And haan .. tum Mom ke baare mein sahi thi .. "

She narrowed her brows ..

"I mean .. I agree that we should not involve the family in matters related to us .. especially this minor ones .. "

Her eyes widened as she stared at him ..

"what " he asked her confused ..

"Minor argument hui toh aap ne 7 din mujhse baat nahi ki .. major argument hogi tab kya ?" she asked

"Actually main tumse gussa nahi tha .. main toh aise hi .. " he looked away from her eyes and spoke a bit uncertainly ..

"Aap mujhe tung kar rahe the .. " she completed for him .. and they both looked at each other and smiled ..

"Aap na bahut bachon ki tarah behave karte ho .. "

"So tum bhi mujhe bachon ki tarah mana sakti thin na " he said with a pout ..

"Ok .. next time I will take you to a candy store and let you buy whatever you want .. I am sure then you will be happy .. "

They both burst out laughing ..

"You know " she said .. " Jab mujhe gussa aata hai toh I avoid talking for sometime .. but aap toh mujse do Kadam aage nikle " and she chuckled ..

He caught his ears lightly .. "toh tum chahti ho ki main tumse 2 kadam peeche chalu ? " he asked making an innocent face ..

She started laughing hard .. they both knew they were talking such nonsensical stuff , but it was so much needed to bring the friendly atmosphere back ..

She held his hands firmly "Aap mere saath chaliye .. na aage na peeche "

He looked at her smiling face for some time .. "Mujhe bahut accha laga jo bhi tumne mere liye kiya .. Thanks .. " he said softly ..

She lowered her eyes and coyly smiled looking at her feet ..

"I have got something for you .. " she spoke after a while when she recovered ..

"Kya ?"

"Yeh dekhiye " She gave him a small box as they reached near her dressing table ..

He opened it and saw a beautiful watch .. "Wow .. its great .. but aaj kyon ?"

"Actually next week aapka b'day hai na .. initially I wanted to surprise you .. but mujhe pata nahi tha ki aapko accha legaga ki nahi .. and aap gussa bhi the na mujhse " she left it incomplete .. she started fidgeting with her dress a bit ..

"Nahi Kria .. yeh bahut sundar hai .. " he felt how uneasy she was .. she wanted to gift him .. she wanted to surprise him and he had been so stupid .. he unnecessarily hurt her ..he kept the watch on the table cupped her face and made her look in his eyes .. "And I am really gonna wear it .. " she smiled slightly..

His left thumb slowly caressed her cheek .. "I am really sorry Kria .. " she shook her head in negative .. she didn't want him to apologize again .. he gradually removed his left hand and bend and gave her a lingering kiss on her cheek ..

As he was pulling back , Kria came forward and hugged him ..
