Part 10:

The next morning Asad woke up early as usual, he watched her sleep peacefully in his arms. He leaned in to kiss her on her forehead, and as he did she woke up too. He had no intention of waking her up, but he did.

"Morning Mr.Khan" she tightened her grip around him

"Morning, slept well?"

"mmm-hmmm, you?" she wasn't in the mood to talk, she just wanted to cuddle a bit more and doze off again

"I slept well too… Zoya, don't doze off again, we have to go home… and to the court"

"Oh no, I completely forgot" She instantly sat up on the bed, using the duvet to cover herself.

"What time is it? Are we late?"

"It's 9 am, and we're not late but if you doze off we will be. You can sleep in the car." he said that, but he didn't want her to sleep – not when he couldn't admire her sleep or sleep with her.

"Good idea"

"But we need to leave in thirty minutes, so get ready fast – don't take your own sweet time like yesterday"

"Thirty minutes is too short! I need that much time,but how will you get ready?"

"I don't mind sharing the washroom with you" he smirked

"But that will take longer than what we individually take"

"Why?"

"Allah Miyaan, what's wrong with you? Because we'll get busy with each other" she blurted out and then bit her tongue which then made her blush. She looked at Asad and he was let out a small chuckle and she joined him and giggled.

"I see where your mind is Mrs. Khan, but what I really meant was that you can brush while I shower and you can shower while I brush… that way we'll save time"

"I want to shower first" he wasn't going to waste time bickering with her

"Fine"

They got ready, had their breakfast and were set to leave. The drive home was a silent one, because Zoya had decided to take Asad's suggestion seriously and she fell asleep. Two hours later they were home. As they arrived everybody had gathered in the hall expecting answers to their questions.

"Asad, Zoya, come sit here and tell us what's happening with Tanveer – why did you get her arrested?" Dilshaad inquired, she wanted to ask them about their time in the resort but due to the urgency of the circumstances she had to prioritize her questions.

"Ammi, that day when you had asked me to take Zoya for her dress fitting – the day before the wedding remember?" he addressed his ammi, but would explain to the rest of the audience as well as to what happened that day.

"Yes I do, but what has that got to do with this?"

"Mr. Khan, I don't want to marry you"

"WHAT? Why?"

"Because… you just don't trust me! And I don't think any relationship should be formed or can be maintained if there is no trust. I know it's hard for you to trust people – but if I marry you, I won't be just another person… I'll be your wife. Right now you don't trust me… probably because you think I'm just another person. But if there is no trust from the start how can I be sure that you will begin to trust me? And if there's no trust, I don't see how you will stand by me through thick and thin? We aren't even on the first step of our marriage and you aren't standing by me, how do I be certain that once I marry you, you will? I'm sorry Mr. Khan, I can't do this.

"I know Phuphi will be hurt now, but its better she's hurt now rather than seeing us go through a marriage with constant problems – because this hurt will be temporary, the latter one will be prolonged. It's not healthy – for her, for you or for me.

"You've always been on and on about this nikkah being a sham, but I don't see it that way. If I get married I will maintain it for the rest of my life. Apparently, this is not the case for you since you are willing to see this as a sham despite your tezeeb and tameez. Please don't get me wrong.

"And another thing, it's not about Tanveer. It's really not. Yes, I don't like her – but that's because I am aware of her intentions. It's not because she's your close friend. Your friend is my friend, as long as he or she knows their limits. Tanveer has always been overboard.

"If we get married I would hate it that you don't trust me over her. I don't want to share my husband with another woman – you may call that jealousy but I call it logic – she's always over you, trying to touch you and stuff. I am sorry – I can't do it anymore… A relationship is a two-way thing, and with us, I don't see that."

"No, Zoya it's not that… I really trust you"

"No Mr. Khan, you don't. Every time I have to prove it to you that I'm right. If you trusted me, you wouldn't spit venom and then apologize… instead you would listen, understand and then take an action. You would be tolerant"

"Zoya, I know everything about Tanveer and I've been putting you down deliberately after the wound incident on our jashn-e-saughaat"

"WHAT, you knew about her?"

"Yes but I didn't want to alert her"

"Fine, but you used to put me down before that too"

"Yes, but that was because I didn't know how I felt about you… and after I had a talk with ammi, I started changing for good – for you. And I'm still willing to improve myself, but I need a chance" Zoya being a happy-go-lucky person, forgave him.

"Ok, I'll give you a chance… but all we have is this one day. How am I to know that you will improve?"

"It's all a matter of trust, isn't it?" she smiled at him as he said that. Her message had been delivered and accepted.

"So, Mr.Khan tell me how and why did you start suspecting her?"

"Well after the wound, she started increasing her physical proximity with me and I found that weird. Later the Chandelier incident confirmed it – I didn't want to alert her by saying that someone wanted to kill you so I put it on her instead to see her reaction. It made sense in terms of how all the attacks were on her, but in reality she was always alone when stuff like that happened. And not to mention her lies, they kept confirming my doubts about her. I didn't want to tell anyone, even you, because like I said, I didn't want to alert her. I wanted proofs. And now that you also know about her, I want you to be subtle about it. Zoya, normally you're as subtle as a gun, but I need you to be as subtle as air. We need to work together and find out about it. I didn't want to involve you, because you being a musibat magnet will land yourself in trouble and drive me insane." He blurted out the last few words in the spur of the moment. To recover from it he went on saying "I think we should go now."

Throughout Asad's explanation she had extreme expression changes. From amazement, to being interested, to rolling her eyes and finally disbelief that he actually cared for her that much!

"And then we started our search on tanveer. After you being shot ammi, I put up CCTV-s and when Zoya and I went to the resort we organized our proofs. Tanveer still doesn't know who got her arrested, and I didn't want the drama, so I asked the police to arrest her before we came back home"

"Puphi, I mean Ammi, turns out that she was behind everything that went wrong after she arrived – like the gas cylinder incident, she put a live wire in my bathtub, she changed her blood samples – she wanted to hide the fact that she was pregnant, the wound, the chandelier, the fire, the mehendi – every single thing. And it's all captured in the CCTV-s"

The whole room was filled with silence. Everybody was shocked and needed time to recover. So much had been going on under their nose and they weren't even aware about it.
