"You don't have to be frightened of anything, Khushi. I am here for you. You believe me, don't you?"

Khushi took her time to answer his question.

"I don't believe or trust anybody that easily, Arnav."

His heart fell.

"Don't run away from me, Khushi. I might not be able to bear it."

She read the truthfulness in his eyes. Even though she didn't know what was happening to her, she didn't protest when he stepped closer to her and hugged her.

"Don't run away from me, Khushi," he repeated in a much lower voice again.

She tried to pull away from him and said, "I don't know, Arnav. Don't try to get too close to me. I might not let you in." Before he could ask why, she said, "I have a lot of emotional baggage and it is strong enough to sink a ship."

"Remember what really happened about thirty minutes back, Khushi? That is supposed to be my baggage."

He wrapped his arms around her tighter not letting her move away from him. She stopped her struggle and gave in. She felt his heartbeat and it soothed her. Only then she realized that her own heartbeat was moving at a fast rate in par with his. She closed her eyes and listened as both their hearts beat against each other.

Arnav smiled. He knew that their heartbeats calmed her. He also knew that she had no idea about what was going on with her. She was falling in love with him without her own knowledge.

It frightened him to think about the little girl sleeping in her bedroom and about the guy he had seen outside school. He had grown accustomed of Vaishnavi and he liked her a lot. He was not so sure of Suresh. Anger pulsed through him just at the thought that Suresh and Khushi had been together sometime back.

'You are mine, Khushi. I will not lose you,' he made a silent vow to her.

"You mean a lot to me, Khushi," he told her. "I will not let you or Vaishu move away from me. And about Suresh... If he asks you to marry him, say no."

Confusion and uncertainty were clearly written on her face.

He kissed her forehead and said, "Sleep well. I'll meet you tomorrow." As an afterthought, he added, "If that Suresh guy gives you any trouble, call me."
