Chapter 5C-

Arnav was having a pleasant time at the ceremony. After days of restlessness, he was finally able to relax, having made up his mind on what he wanted, the sudden stability in his personal life making him feel calm in weeks. It was nice meeting all his peers, and he was genuinely excited about the nomination. Akash and he had been working very hard, and for all the sacrifices he had made the nomination was like a pat in the back, and a reminder that he could never lose focus of his dreams. He had managed to spend some quality time with Kushi in the ceremony, in the midst of all the conversations and introductions. He was still nervous about the trip to the farmhouse and their long overdue conversation, but the limited time they spent together, proved to him that they wouldn't have any major compatibility issues. Kushi was good company and he liked spending time with her. And if not for love they could at least become very good friends.

Arnav greeted Girish, a friend from his times at the Delhi university nearly eight years ago. They had last met a year ago in another industry event. The two friends started catching up on the recent developments in their professional life. Girish had recently joined a premium fashion design company as its CEO. After a short while Girish announced the news of his impending wedding to his childhood sweetheart. Inevitably the discussion soon moved to Arnav's personal life. He had seen Arnav with his girl friend Lavanya, a popular model, during the event last year. He had always known Arnav as someone who played the field without getting into a serious relationship. But with Lavanya things seemed to have changed. Since he hadn't seen Lavanya today, he asked Arnav about her whereabouts. Arnav hesitantly broke the new of his own marriage to a different woman. Arnav cited personal reason for the decision when Girish expressed his shock. Girish knew better than to probe further. As luck would have it, Girish pointed to Lavanya walking into the hall with her brother Sid in tow. Arnav was left speechless. He was told that she had signed up to an agency in Paris, so he hadn't expected to see her at the ceremony. So her appearance had totally caught him unaware.

Lavanya stopped to speak someone and invariably she saw Arnav. Their eyes met for a second before Lavanya moved her eyes away. He then saw Lavanya walking towards the bar to get herself a drink. Fortunately for him, Sid was not with her. He excused himself and followed Lavanya to the bar.

'Lavanya, how are you?'

He asked her with so much longing and tenderness that even Lavanya found it difficult to snap at him. His vulnerability, making all her forget everything she wanted to tell him, the lines she had rehearsed.

But she composed herself and replied. 'I'm fine Arnav, how are you doing?'

She said sipping onto her drink, nonchalantly. She was mindful of the many pair of eyes focused on them at that moment, their relationship and Arnav's sudden wedding to another woman, a popular subject of gossip in the fashion circles.

Arnav took a step towards her, 'Lavanya, I'm sorry... I got your text. Can we talk.. I promise...'

'No Arnav, we have nothing more to talk.' Lavanya cut him off with a smile, still trying to keep the sweet but indifferent facade.

'Please Lavanya, just once I promise...'

His hands went towards Lavanya's, but before he could hold her hand, Sid appeared out of nowhere and interrupted them.

He took a step towards Arnav and told him in a menacing tone, 'I have told you to stay away from my sister.'

Lavanya, patted Sid's shoulder, 'Sid there are people watching us.' She gently reminded her brother, lest a scene was created.

Sid took a couple of breaths to calm himself, 'Next time you try to get anywhere near her, I promise I will spill every single detail of your cowardice to your wife. If you want to save you marriage and your place at AR, get the f**k away from my sister.' Sid uttered, failing hopelessly to keep his anger in check.

Arnav ran his fingers through his hair. 'I'm sorry Sid, I didn't do the right thing by Lavanya. I just want to speak to her in private and apologise.'

Sid took a step back, 'Well then its too late buddy, you had your chance and blew it. You. Stay. Away, from. Her.' He hissed, while pointing his finger at him.

Mindful of the people looking at them, Arnav nodded his head and walked away. Arnav walked back to his table feeling despondent and helpless about what was happening. All he wished for was opportunity to speak to Lavanya and apologise to her, and also bid Good bye to her. With her signing up for the agency in Paris, she would soon be gone and he just wanted one final opportunity to speak to her.

While sitting in the table his eyes had continued to search Lavanya's whereabouts. Arnav's thoughts were entirely taken over by Lavanya and he had lost track of where he was sitting why he was here in the first place. He was also losing focus of Kushi and the life changing discussion they were going to have shortly. Lavanya always had that affect on him.

A little while later he saw Lavanya walk towards the lobby, probably to use the restroom. He excused himself and started following Lavanya to the ladies rest room which on the other end of the lounge. He waited patiently for Lavanya to come out. As soon as she came out, Arnav started speaking, without offering Lavanya either the chance of the time to react.

He begged Lavanya to give him one chance to explain himself, reminding her that once she moved to Paris it would all be over and they would never get the chance to speak again.

Lavanya knew she was taking a huge risk by giving Arnav a chance. But she needed this as much as him, to get her closure, make peace with what had happened so they she could finally move forward. She also wanted to tell him everything she felt about him, scream at him yell at him, get it out of her system. So that she could finally remove that feeling of restless of something incomplete. She wasn't someone who held grudges for long, but Arnav had hurt her more than anyone else, because she had never loved anyone as much as Arnav.

Arnav and Lavanya stood at the balcony. With the awards ceremony at full swing in the hall, they felt this was the best place for them to have a private discussion, away from the prying eyes, away from Sid and Arnav's family. Lavanya made sure she kept a safe distance from him. Arnav then spoke to Lavanya at length, he began by apologising for his mistakes unconditionally and for hurting her feelings. He explained the reasons behind his decision, how important his family were to him, and how he could never hurt them. Lavanya called him a 'spineless bas***d' in response, told him that she pitied him for never growing up. Her pain far too strong for her to hold back.

'Im sorry Lavanya for hurting you, but for what its worth, I loved you truly.'

The word 'Love' made Lavanya snap, she slapped him on his face. 'Dont. You. Dare. Utter. the. word. Love.' She said in between pushing Arnav back and then broke into an anguished cry.

Arnav took a couple of steps towards her and held her in a hug and rubbed her back soothingly to help her calm down, with tears spilling from his own eyes. Cursing fate and everything else for doing this to them.

He continued to whisper his apology, 'I'm sorry Lavanya, So sorry. You deserve someone better,' while rubbing her back.

Eventually Lavanya's tears dried up. And when she lifted her head up Arnav placed a tender kiss on her forehead, trying to repeat his apology wordlessly. 'I want you to promise me something.' She said while, taking a step back to put enough distance between her and Arnav.

'If you ever loved me...' She paused and decided that love would be the wrong word as she felt that Arnav had never loved her. 'If you ever felt something for me, please leave me alone. I don't want you to chase me, or call me or see me ever again.' A look of determination took over her face, with her actions now sure and more rigid.

'I promise.' Arnav replied, running his fingers again through his hair.

'I hope this is one promise you would keep Arnav.' Lavanya replied, without any hint of sarcasm. Arnav's eyes went down automatically, her words piercing through his heart.

-----------------------------

Kushi kept some distance from the glass door and stayed at one of the dark corners of the room, lest her husband and the woman he was hugging saw her. After a few seconds she saw the woman lifting her head and then saw Arnav placing a kiss on her forehead with infinite tenderness, something she was yet to experience or see herself. The kiss made her feel unwanted once again- the feeling of being forced on Arnav, leaving him no other option but to live with her.

She held on to a pillar nearby for support unable to fathom why and how things had changed so quickly. A few minutes earlier she had been sitting with her husband, sharing jokes, finding a bit about each other, silently growing in their relationship, nervously aware of the discussion they were about to have at the farmhouse. And now here he was going back on everything he had said and done in the past ten days, holding and kissing another woman, making a mockery of their marriage, a mockery of her. She knew that the woman in question was her husband's ex flame Lavanya. A stunning model whose elegance and beauty were incomparable.

'Was he still seeing her? Did he still have feelings for her? How could his family and her own family do this to her?'

Questions she didn't have answers for. She closed her eyes and tried to put aside her fears and think with her rational mind.

'Maybe it was just a friendly hug or a kiss.' She told herself. But then where was the for him to lie if he wanted to see a friend. He had lied to her to come here, which only meant one thing- he had something to hide. A part of her wished to go to the balcony and confront her husband and the woman and ask them to come out with the truth.

But she wasn't a fan of dramatic confrontations, she would give Arnav a chance to explain himself. What she would do if she weren't happy with his explanation was another thing all together, something her mind and her heart didn't want to comprehend at this stage. But she hoped against all hopes that the hug and the kiss was nothing more than a platonic gesture, she didn't want her marriage and their relationship to break even before it took off. She might be a head strong confident young woman, but this marriage did mean a lot to her and she wasn't sure if she was strong enough to deal with this all.

While she was lost in her own thoughts, she saw another man walking angrily to the room. He was about to walk into the balcony from the room using one of the doors, when he saw Kushi. 'You must be Mrs Raizada.' He asked her with sheer disgust.

Kushi stood rooted to the spot not giving away anything. Finally aware of the commotion outside Arnav and Lavanya walked back into the room hesitantly. As soon as Arnav was out Sid, held him by his collar and threw a punch on his face. Lavanya screamed at her brother begging him to stop.

'What did I tell you about staying away from my sister?'

He threw in another punch and Arnav stood there taking it all. 'It was pathetic enough that you told her you love her and then proposed marriage to her. And now in spite of being married to someone else you still chase her. I haven't see a more pathetic piece of scum in my life.'

Sid continued hurling abuses at Arnav. Having been shunned for having a mother, that the society claimed had changed men like she changed clothes, Sid was extremely protective of his sister from an early age. He didn't want her to end up like his mother. He didn't like Arnav from the day he had met him, especially the way he let Lavanya bear the aftermath of his break-up with Sheetal. But Lavanya had never paid heed to his concerns, too stuck in the web of facade and lies Arnav was weaving. Arnav, he knew was a self-centered, manipulative man who only cared for himself. He knew that Arnav would never hesitate to dump Lavanya to further his ambitions. And that's exactly what happened. And to make it worse Arnav still nursed hopes of getting together with his sister. 'Did he think his sister was some kind of a wh**e who would give in easily?' The very thought made his blood boil. He had enough and he was going to teach this man a lesson he would never forget.

Kushi who had so far stayed rooted to her spot walked towards the group and joined the commotion. This was the first time Arnav saw his wife.

'Please stop this, we are all adults, we can all speak in a calm manner.'

She joined hoping to make Sid see some sense, to save a situation that was progressively getting worse. However the words Sid said about Arnav being in love with Lavanya and proposing marriage to her didn't go unnoticed. She was just focused on managing the situation before it went out of hands. She would deal with Sid's words later.

Arnav saw his wife trying top make Sid see sense and something inside him broke. He had been trying hard to change everything, fighting with himself so that he could begin a new chapter in his life with Kushi, but little did he realise that his own actions would push his wife further away from him.

'Kushi...' He pleaded with her to look at him. Yet she offered him no eye contact, her body became rigid as soon as she heard him take her name. Arnav knew at that point that they were nearing a point of no-return.

'Calm did you say?' Sid growled. Lavanya held his hand asking him to stop. But Sid was beyond furious.

'Mrs Raizada are you aware of the kind of things your husband does behind your back.'

'Sid please stop.' Lavanya begged him again.

'Sid, please...' Arnav pleaded for the first and the last time, his eyes silently begging him to show some kindness.

Kushi stood there silently, readying herself for more heart breaking revelations. But what could be worse than knowing that your husband loves someone else.

'While you are waiting at home and warming his bed...' Kushi flinched at the words hurled at her.

'Sid..' Arnav used a menacing tone.

'He has been chasing my sister, begging her to take him back.'

'That's enough, nothing of that sort happened today. Arnav was here to apologise.' Lavanya side stepped Sid.

'Is that what he did when he came to visit you the day after his wedding?' Sid asked Lavanya challenging her to disprove him.

'The day after the wedding?' Kushi asked nervously, recollecting everything about that night that still sent a shiver down her spine.

'Yes, he was at my sister's flat the day after your wedding begging with her to take him back.'

Kushi stared at Arnav, asking hims wordlessly to disprove Sid's accusation, convince her this was all a big misunderstanding.

'But we are over Sid. I have told Lavanya that I wont see her again.' Arnav tried in vain, once again to get Sid to stop.

'And do you know what is worse.' Sid smiled sarcastically, throwing Arnav a look of disgust. 'He told my sister, that he loves her and even his marriage to you would not change that.'

Kushi took a step back, the meaning of Sid's words and everything finally getting the better of her. She stared at Arnav for a split second before looking away. She turned around to walk out of the room. And at that moment Arnav knew that it was all over.

Liza I was hoping the same too...kya pataa wahaan ek aur tale mil jaaye? 😉
Afterall one is never enough 😊
Edited:
Woh Lavanya hi thi!😲 And this is wrong...at one point of time he decided to let go off Lavanya and focus on his marriage to Khushi and then just as Lavanya arrives on the scene...poof! So does that explain Arnav as fallacious? I mean he might have said that he only wanted to talk to her but even after being slapped, he did go on to hug her. So that only says that had she not taken up the job at Pris and stayed in the same city, Arnav would have never even tried to give another chance to his marriage; his father's infidelity having no effect on his conscience...

I guess Lavanya's words mirror the readers' thoughts as well. He has to give a promise that can be kept.

And then there was Khushi caught in a whirlpool of emotions. It was heartrending to see her not come to conclusions abruptly and cling on to the idea that what transpired between her husband and his flame was platonic.

Sid's words propelled Arnav into a catch 22 situation; the words were true and so they had to have their effect...it didn't matter when they were said.

This was indeed a different take on the MU scene; the confrontation was what I had expected but Sid's inclusion in the same made it a whole new ballgame.

They say a phoenix rises from the ashes and in this case the situation is no better. So the question that crops up is will we see a positive turn or will they continue to remain distorted?(there seeming no hope after this chapter)

Res mera...
And here i was thinking that u would be making special appearance in Tales dhaga...
Or maybe u are and this is just to throw us off the trail...😉
So is it time to start dancing for double update...😆

**Edited**

K you totally stumped me today and not because that the person arnav was hugging was Lavanvya i more or else was sure of that cause only Lavanya could reduce Arnav to the emotional wreck that he was towards the end in the last update..
But what had me stumped was the way everything is out in the open so quickly and the way you used Sid to reveal all the things to Khushi so fast.
No unnecessary dragging drama at all but still every every effective which left all the readers stumped.

I guess the best part of this story is that its so real and something that you can relate yourself with.
Arnav and Khushi both forced in a relationship where khushi had no choice and Arnav who decided to choose ambition over love but atleast he had a choice there...Which was completely denied to Khushi.
Khushi who wants and is trying to work on her relation and a Arnav who is not willing to accept initially the bed that he has made for himself...
And just when he accepts the choices that he has made and is going to move ahead in life after wishing a final goodbye to Lavanya and fate just spoils all the plans for him...

My heart goes out to this Khushi who has been very matured and balanced in her approach to this forced relationship and just when she was looking forward to moving along life throws this at her...

I know its Saturday tomorrow but i am going to waiting for the next update...Cause i know u will stun me once more...

I was sure that things are going to take a turn for worse but I never thought it would go this nightmarishly wrong!
As if witnessing Arnav-Lavanya hug was not enough Sid had to come and give her such a
crude version of the truth.
Khushi must be shattered .
She might've given Arnav a chance to explain himself if Sid had not abused him so much.
Now I feel that the damage is irreparable.

All hopes stashed. But this had to happen. And also it makes me wonder what if La hadnt been leaving for Paris. Arnav, though, would have still decided to go ahead with his married life but one look at La, he would be a goner. Wallowing and being a devdas.

Its so true what La thinks. If Arnav was in love with her, he would not have given up on her. Methinks atleast he could have put up a fight, shown his promises had weightage. One threat of being shown way out of house, and he submitted. Whats this love when he couldnt keep his promises. And he thinks it to be cowardice, that infact it is, but..still. Maybe he was being delusional.

Sid gave back as bad as he got. I'l try to understand what he must be feeling but i really wanted to slap him for talking the way he did with Khushi. Apni behan, behan. Dusri ladki kuch nahin? :/

What tears my heart is whats Khushi s' fault in this. Everytime she says unwanted, its :( :(
This is one story where if Arnav Khushi dont end up together, il have no worry. I just wish for Khushi to find happiness and Arnav to find..ermm all those things which are lacking in him.

I knew it would be this way ... and will be severely misunderstood!
But as if the the sight of hugging and kissing alone was not enough ... Sid had to happen!

Its a shattering experience for any girl to be present in that moment!
my heart was pounding harder and harder! throughout the whole read!
I am sure the farm house trip is not gonna happen now! frankly i do not want it to happen either!
Arnav should not be given a chance ... he should earn that chance for himself!

Next day Khushi will already leave to Ahmedabad with a muddled mind nonetheless!
I guess it will be Arnav who will visit there after a few days and thats when their pending discussion will take place!
Its a painful stage ... but i am sure to it will be crossed soon!

Thanks a lot for the update Kripa! :)
