You are so awesome if you answer this, really, good man, that's what you are.
Introduction
Dear, ________
There is a North American company that is preparing to introduce car renting and sharing service to India, and we are conducting a research to find out your feeling as a resident of New Delhi regarding the usefulness and relevance to your life from it? Here I have prepared some sets of questions. Please write down as much detail as you can in the following questions, feel free to skip questions, which you don't find it easy to reply, (but answer as many and as much as you can). Thank you very much for your time.
Warm up
What is your name? and What is your profession and age range (20's, 30's, 40's, or 50's)?
Did it take long for you to get here?
Were there traffic jams on the road?
How far is your office from your home?
What is the approximate time you spend in commuting daily to and from your place of work/ study?
Awareness
What mode of transport do you use on a daily basis?
How many cars are there in your household?
What do you have to say about the state of public transport in our city?
Are you comfortable in using the metro or the public buses/ auto rickshaws?
Is it easily accessible and convenient to travel in?
What keeps you from buying a car? OR if you already have a car, what is the model and year of your car?
Does your concern about the environment and global warming also have a little role to play in deciding whether to buy a car or not?
Do you think the cost of running and maintenance of a car is also far too high?
Have you ever tried the various rent- a- car services that are available in India?
What has your experience been in using this service?
Do you think it was economical? For what purpose did you use the service? What it for special occasions.
If a concept of car sharing and renting which is successfully running in the other parts of the world such as USA and Canada is introduced in our city, would you be willing to try it? (Give details about the service to the interviewee)
Accessibility(10 Minutes)
What factors would come to your mind while using such a service?
Keeping in mind the accessibility issues of public transport from your home, don't you think this service would be highly beneficial to you?
There would be convenient and hourly access virtually to every car. This should be able to save a lot of your time?
There are hindrances involved too, you will have to plan ahead and some lifestyle changes, such as knowing when you need a car a day in advance to make sure a successful booking. How do you think that will help?
If this service is easily available online through a portal, where you can specify the duration of the car usage and has simple options to make payments via your debit/ credit card, would you be willing to try such a service?
When do you think you would be using such a service? Would it only be for special occasions or otherwise as well?
Where would you to wish to have the car picked up from? Should it be somewhere near a metro station or bus stand so that it is easier to reach till there?
Cost
Such a concept is normally kept economical, keeping the student population/ working professionals like you in mind. Do you think it would make sense to try this service?
Approximately how much money do you end up spending daily in your commuting?
If a discount for early birds, or free membership is provided to people who register early, what would be your response?
If the company proposes a 30 day trial period, do you think it would be interesting to try such a service?
What do you think about the feasibility of this service? On one hand, it is providing you with cars at economical rates and on the other hand, it is saving youthe trouble of actually buying a new car
Perception and Image
TRY Close your eyes and describe the feeling and experience of coming to your college/ office in this car you have just rented rather than using an auto/ bus for the same
Do you think having a better acceptability within your peer group would play a big role in deciding to go for such a service or not?
Why do you find owning a car so important beyond its usefulness, is there a hidden identity for you?
Environmental Concerns(5 minutes)
Our Cities alone are expected to add many new residents by 2030, most aspiring to join the burgeoning middle class. The city would then sprawl with polluting cars if more and more cars are added every day?
Renting on an hourly or daily basis would save the city from the pollution caused by cars otherwise. What do you think about the long term sustainability of such a concept?
If more and more people are made aware about the environmental concerns and the rate of pollution in our cities, do you think that would be a trigger for them to try this novel idea?
Do you think the image of a person renting a car would be perceived as more of an environmentally responsible consumer?
