Mangalpur Madness: Part 8
Night was beginning to fall when Zoya sent a silent prayer of thanks to Allah as soon as Asad pulled up the handbrake outside Maryam's house, and then she immediately swung open her door to escape the awkwardness she'd been sitting through in the car from just now. She shut her eyes in exasperation when she felt Asad's grip on her hand, and remembered once again that she wasn't a single entity at the moment. She opened her eyes to meet Asad's face, staring at her amusedly once again. He leaned back on his seat and stretched out his free arm towards her.
Zoya bit her lower lip as she watched Asad. He wanted her to climb over into his lap on her own! Having him carry her into the car wasn't half as bad, because there wasn't time for either of them to rationalize their thoughts. But this time, climbing into his arms in such a deliberate manner, how was she going to do it? Taking in a deep breath, she clutched his stretched out arm with her free hand and slowly lifted herself off her seat, allowing Asad's grip on her other hand to guide her into his lap.
Asad knowingly guided Zoya in such a way that she ended up facing him. He wrapped his free arm around Zoya's waist and pressed her further into his body as he began climbing out of the car, his eyes never leaving hers. She gasped as their faces came even closer together because of his move, breaths intermingling. Once out, Asad nudged the door shut with his back, his arm still wrapped around Zoya's body. They then wordlessly stood next to the car in that position, holding hands, bodies joined to each other's chest-down, and eyes locked. Asad began leaning down towards Zoya's face, his lips not even a hair's breadth away from hers.
"Yeh miyan-biwi kaun hai?" the voice of an old man rang into Asad and Zoya's ears. They quickly sprung apart, but Asad still remembered not to let go of Zoya's injured hand. She struggled out of his grip when she realized that a crowd had gathered outside Maryam's house and they were all staring at them, but Asad simply refused to let go. Zoya gave up and they noticed two people trying to make their way to the front by weaving through the crowd of wedding guests. It was Maryam, accompanied by the man from Dubai who got robbed! Zoya gave herself a mental pat on the back for figuring it out at the police station itself that the victims of the robbery had to be Maryam and her bhaijaan. She turned to give Asad an 'I-told-you-so look', but he simply rolled his eyes at her.
"Aap log?" the man asked, as soon as he recognized them. "Mansoor Bhaijaan, yeh Zoya Paaji aur Asad Bhaijaan hai! Bhopal se!" Maryam exclaimed, before either of them could answer his question. She ran over to hug Zoya in excitement. "Aap dono ne shaadi karli aur mujhe bataya bhi nahi! Anyway I'm not even surprised. I had told you Paaji, that I could see his concern for you in his eyes. I suppose that concern eventually transformed into love, huh?" Maryam said dreamily, smug that she had it all figured out from the beginning. Zoya's eyes widened, wondering how she was going to explain herself.
Asad looked back and forth at the Zoya and Maryam, trying to make sense of their conversation. They had such a conversation about him? But the more pressing matter at hand was the fact that all of the wedding guests were under the impression that they were married. And considering the fact that they had almost kissed in front of all of them, it would make more sense to let them stay under that impression. How else were they going to explain their actions from before? Asad was glad that Zoya had stayed mum too, quite sure that her thoughts mirrored his.
XXX
Asad and Zoya have finally made it to the wedding at long last hahaha. I have a strong feeling I'm going to have to change this SS to an FF, because I have a million things planned before the story ends. Anyway hope you guys liked this part (: More soon!
