She realized she was staring into dark brown hazel eyes in the dark of night where there wasn't a single beam of light left as she was standing in a secluded place thankfully not far from her home. Then just in a span of seconds that pair of eyes and the shadow disappeared. She couldn't saw that face due to the dark but felt Goosebumps inside her. Gulping down her saliva, she puzzled and scared swiftly walked towards her home, not glancing back even for a second.

In a matter of few minutes, she had reached home and entered softly with pin drop silence. She peeped in Sharon's room to find out what she was up to and if her pain and anger had subsided. The sight of numb and expressionless Sharon made her feel looser as a friend. She entered the room and calmly sat besides Sharon, who just lifted her head up on her arrival.

They both were sitting on the floor near the bed and just silence prevailed there. They had become the best of friends and more than that like siblings after that night. That cursed and fateful night. They went back in the memories of that night.

"Oh bhab.. I mean Sharon... Come... You here? At such an hour? Any problem?"

"Yeah… no… actually… is swayam at home?? I mean… umm.."

Sharon had come to meet swayam. It was a long time since childhood they knew each other and a much more time since he loved her. But she was the one who took a fairly large time to realize her feelings. And today was that day.

"He is not at home and might come a little later. You can wait if you want" taani just smiled seeing her state. This was not the diva Sharon she was used to, she was uncomfortable and awkward, came to meet swayam at this time of hour. They both waited for him but he it was now more than midnight and he still didn't arrive making both of them tense. Just then taani's phone rang, with 'bhai' flashing, and she immediately took it.

"bhai!! What is this?? When are you coming? How can you be so irresponsible?" taani shot questions at swayam while Sharon snatched the phone in frustration and kept it on loudspeaker.

"what the hell swayam! What do you think of yourself? You are still not at home! " but the reply was unexpected.

" I am not coming."

"what??"

"I said I am not coming" there was coldness in voice.

"huh? What nonsense bhai!!"

"I am tired… tired from all of you… I want to live my life as I want… all alone… don't you ever try to come in my life… I will now be happy all away from you…" he said all with a heavy heart but with a determined rudely voice.

They both were shaken from within and couldn't utter even a single word. They sincerely hoped that it was all a joke… a stupid joke.

"bye.. and I hope I will never see you all ever again" and the phone call cut.

There was silence… pin drop silence… neither taani nor Sharon could transpire what just happened. They both were shocked to the core and were staring the phone in a hope that he will call once again to just say that it was a joke.. a stupid prank but the silence prevailed for the rest of the night… shattering their hope into pieces.

Here on the other hand swayam cut the call… fell on his knees with tears all rolling down his face… and mumbled " I am sorry… so very sorry…"

No one wept… maybe because taani still didn't believe that phone call or she didn't want to… and maybe because Sharon closed the doors of her heart or she regretted for opening them…

The days passed and so the months… completing a whole year…

Everything had changed but still somewhere something remained still… a place still remained empty…

They came out of their memories, actually they tried to… there was still complete silence… sharon got up and said "its very late… " taani shook her head upwards to face sharon "no… he will come one day…"

"I said its very late and we have to go college tomorrow morning… good night…"

Taani got up with tears swelled up, cursing the fate in her heart; she left to her room and lay on her bed closing her eyes. But as she closed her eyes strange thing occurred… she yet again saw that pair of dark brown hazel eyes in her mind… she shot up and rested her palms on the bed sheet clutching it as tightly as she can…

"What was that?? And who was that?? "She rubbed her forehead with her fingers.

She felt a strange sensation rushing down her blood when she thought about that faint shadow and those eyes… she couldn't see that person properly that time and though terrified she still couldn't help but think about it… think about those eyes… who reflected pain… possessiveness... affection… aggression… passion… and danger…

She again tried and finally drifted off to sleep…
