Maan's thoughts were broken as Mrs. Mehra entered his room with his dinner. A tear escaped her eyes to see his broken state, she still couldn't believe that Maan could ever commit such a grave mistake. She had known him since he was a kid and especially for the past 3 months while he had been staying there and she was more than certain that though his eyes sometimes glinted with guilt but it was not for the crime that he was being punished for while his soul only ever poured selfless love on whoever he came in contact with.

Mrs. Mehra (caressing his hair with her motherly touch breaking his thoughts): Maan beta, have your dinner.

Maan (jerking back): Ji...

As Maan made a bite and brought near his mouth a tear escaped his eyes remembering his mother and he went back into flash back.

FLASH BACK

Maan reached home that night to meet with a furious Mr. Khurana as principal sir had called and reported the whole matter to his family.

Mr. Khurana: Mei kabhi soch bhi nahi sakta tha ki mera khoon itna gir sakta hai (Maan simply stood there with his head bowed infuriating him all the more and he held his collar shaking him up) Maan woh tumhari behen hai aur tumne kya kiya... chi mujhe sharam aati hai tumhe apna beta kahete hua, aisi kon si kami rah gayi thi humari parwarish mei (he shook him more but what was Maan to say and finally Mr. Khurana lost his cool and hit him hard right across his face. A tear escaped Maan's eye even as his lips bleed with the powerful impact while his father's fingers imprinted across his cheek but still he didn't break his silence killing his father all the more. Mr. Khurana was about to raise his hand again when Maan's mother stopped him shaking her head. Mr. Khurana left him as he broke down not able to bear his son's horrendous act) Toh Mei kya karoon Madhavi, tum hi batao mai toh sapne mei bhi kabhi nahi soch sakta tha ki mera beta, mera Maan aisi sharam nak hartak bhi kar sakta hai aur woh bhi Meera ke saath, Meera ke...(while Maan fell on his knees tears rolling down his eyes to have caused such heart wrenching agony to his innocent parents)

After ages Mr. and Mrs. Khurana finally controlled themselves.

Mr. Khurana (he put a stone on his heart as he continued): Door ho ja humari nazaro se aur kabhi bhi yahan wapis mat aana. (Maan couldn't bear to see so much hatred in the eyes of his beloved parents and he held onto his father's legs begging him for another chance)

(Go away and never come back here)

Maan (pleading even as tears rolled down endlessly from his eyes): Aap mujhe jo bhi saaza doge mujhe manzoor hogi par mujhe is tarah apne se door mat kijiye mei mar jaoonga, please bauji. (Mr. Khurana was about to say "Toh phir mar ja"but he couldn't get himself to say so and tried to shake Maan away but he simply held onto his legs just not willing to let go.) Aap mujhe datiye, mariye, pitiye, meri kaal uder dijiye par mujhe is tarah humesha ke liye apne se door mat kijiye.

(Whatever punishment you give me will be accepted by me but please don't send me away from you like this I will die, please bauji. (Mr. Khurana was about to say "then die" but he couldn't get himself to say so and tried to shake Maan away but he simply held onto his legs just not willing to let go.) You scold me, hit me, bash me, rip off my skin but please don't send me away from you like this forever.)

By now even Meera had come back to her home after all she needed her parents the most at such a stage in life.

Meera: Haan Bauji, aap Maan Bhai ko itni bari saaza nahi de sakte (all except Maan were shocked to hear her speak in his favor) Please Bauji unhe maaf kar dijiye, mere liye please. (And finally Mr. Khurana calmed down a little)

(Yeah Bauji, you can't give such a big punishment to Maan Bhai (all except Maan were shocked to hear her speak in his favor) Please Bauji forgive him, for my sake please. (And finally Mr. Khurana calmed down a little))

Mr. Khurana: Dekh tune iske saath kya kiya par phir bhi teri behen teri taraf dari kar rahi hai. Par hum tujhe bina kisi saaza ke yuhi maaf nahi kar sakte. Teri saaza yeh hai ki toh ek saal tak humare old age home mei volunteer hi tarah kaam karega, tu wahi rahega. Tujhe waha se kahi bhi jane ki izzazat nahi hogi aur Mrs. Mehra jo bhi rookha sookha banaigi tujhe woh hi khana hoga uske alawa apna sara kaam tujhe khud hi karna hoga. Yadi tune apni yeh saaza tahe dil se kaati aur apne kiye ka apni aatma se prayashchit kiya toh hum tujhe maaf kar deenge aur tujhe ghar wapis bula lenge. (Maan simply nodded his head truly overwhelmed that his family had such a big heart to actually give him a path to redeem himself despite him causing such heart wrenching agony to one and all).

(See what you did with your sister yet she is taking your side. But we can't forgive you so easily without punishing you. Your punishment is that you will have to work in our old age home as a volunteer for one year, you will stay there only. You will not be allowed to go anywhere from there and whatever plain and simple Mrs. Mehra will cook you will have to eat that only and other than that you will have to do all of your work yourself. If you complete your punishment with all your heart and repent for your sins from your soul then we will forgive you and call you back home.)

FLASH BACK ENDS

Maan's thought's were broken as Mrs. Mehra returned to take his plate but as always tears escaped her eyes seeing his untouched food and his lost state as if his noble soul was being endlessly tortured in hell. She didn't know how to console him but couldn't control herself any further and left from there weeping uncontrollably.

Next day as was his routine Maan got down to his work of cleaning the old age home then helping in the other daily chores when he heard a sound behind him, he thought like always it must be Mrs. Mehra with his lunch and he tried to find another excuse so as not to hurt the kind hearted lady due to his dying heart.

Maan (without turning as he knew by now she read him inside out and would catch him lying): Aap khana waha rakh dijiye, mei baad mei kha loonga.

(Please keep the food there only, I will eat later)

Tears rolled down the eyes of the person as she silently witnessed her son dying slowly.

Madhavi (simply not able to control her tears as a heart wrenching whisper escaped her lips): Maaannn... (time as if stood still for Maan as he heard the voice of his beloved mother and he slowly turned around as his heart feared what if it was a mere hallucination

but as he saw her standing hardly a few feet away from him he just couldn't control his overflowing emotions and simply ran up to her hugging her by her waist as he dropped down on his knees crying vehemently like a small kid who had been waiting for his mother since ages to pour his aching heart to her. She also slowly ruffled his hair as tears poured out endlessly from her eyes as if trying to absorb the pain and agony her beloved child was undergoing.)

It was as if time stood still as if his endless tears silently baring his heart out to his mother trying desperately to pour out the guilt of destroying his family which was slowly but surely eating his heart and soul. Finally seeing him just not able to get a grip on himself, Madhavi gently lifted her son up tenderly wiping his tears shaking her head as if conveying to let it go while her own eyes welled up. She gently guided him towards the bench and very lovingly placed his head in her lap and he instantly hugged his mother via the waist.

Maan (his voice shivered as tears escaped his eyes nonstop): Mei bahut bura hoon na Maa (she shook her head) maine sab ko chot pahuchai, maine sab ka dil dukhaya (he hiccupped and he howled as he continued to curse his very existence to have caused such excruciating pain to his beloved family) sab meri wajah se duki hai, pareshaan hai, maine Bauji ka sar sharam se jhuka diya... (he sobbed uncontrollably as his heart bleed under the burdens of his sin but how could a mother see her son breaking down completely, how could she see him slowly dying by the second)

(I am very bad Maa (she shook her head) I hurt everybody, I broke everyone's heart (he hiccupped and he howled as he continued to curse his very existence to have caused such excruciating pain to his beloved family) everyone is sad and suffering because of me, due to me Bauji head is hanging in shame... (he sobbed uncontrollably as his heart bleed under the burdens of his sin but how could a mother see her son breaking down completely, how could she see him slowly dying by the second))

She gently raised him to make him face her.

Madhavi (wiping his tears as her own tears threatened to fall but she had to be strong for her child, he truly needed her the most): Nahi mere bache bas ab aur nahi, chup ho jo (Maan simply hugged her and she gently rubbed his back trying to absorb all his guilt, all his pain trying desperately to give solace to her son's distressed soul)

(No my child not any more, stop crying)

Finally after ages Maan calmed down.

Maan (coming out of the hug and wiping his mother's tears): Please Maa don't cry (his eyes welled up again and a lump formed in his throat as he continued) it kills my already guilty heart to see you in tears (he said with so much pain and remorse in his voice that it shook her soul, she couldn't even imagine the trauma that her favorite child was undergoing though her heart knew that whatever he had said and accepted was all a lie, it had to be, it simply had to be her Maan could never ever fall so low.)

Madhavi (gently caressing his face): Mei teri aakho mei teri begunahi saaf dekh pa rahi hoon mere bache, teri aakhe yeh saaf keh rahi hai ki teri aatma pavitra hai par yeh kaisi bebasi hai jo teri aakhe baya kar rahi hai aur yeh teri lachar maa usse samaj hi nahi pa rahi. (Maan immediately lowered his eyes for he feared his Maa would be able to look inside his soul and know all the secrets he had hidden so painfully from all)

(I can see your innocence in your eyes my child, your eyes are clearing saying that your soul is pure but what is this helplessness that your eyes are converying but your powerless mother is unable to understand.)

Maan (trying desperately to hide his heart wrenching pain from his mother): Maa, Does Bauji know that you have come here (her silence told him everything and he momentarily looked into her eyes as he held her hands) Maa maine pehele hi Bauji ka dil bahut dukhaya hai, yadi unke yeh pata chalega toh woh yeh sahan nahi kar payenge (Madhavi tried to interrupt she knew what he meant but he too needed her at such a delicate time of his life, not to mention she feared what if he broke down and did something but how could he not read his Maa's heart) Aap ghabaraiye mast, mujhe kuch nahi hoga, mei aap se wada karta hoon ki mei apna khayal rakhoonga aur apni saaza tahe dil se poori karoonga aur aaj ke baad kisi ko bhi kabhi bhi shikayat ka koi bhi mauka nahi doonga (his eyes once again welled up under the guilt of his sins)

(Maa, Does Bauji know that you have come here (her silence told him everything and he momentarily looked into her eyes as he held her hands) Maa I have already hurt Bauji's heart a lot, if he comes to know about this he will not be able to bear it (Madhavi tried to interrupt she knew what he meant but he too needed her at such a delicate time of his life, not to mention she feared what if he broke down and did something but how could he not read his Maa's heart) you don't worry, nothing will happen to me, I promise you that I will take care of myself and I will complete my punishment will all my heart and after today I will not give anyone any reason to complain(his eyes once again welled up under the guilt of his sins))

Madhavi gently kissed his forehead and not wanting to torment his already tortured soul she finally left with a heavy heart but her eyes ensured his promise that he would take care of himself and his eyes vowed the same.
