"It's not LOVE that we fear. It's the Rejection and Pain that might follow if we did"
-Me (: P)
The two rode past a little distance in utter silence. Khushi realized that he had been silent all along. That was so not him. He was the one who would blabber for hours together even when she had begged him to shut up. The past one week had been enough to know what a chatter-box he was.
Yes. It had been a week since she was in NY. It had been a week since she was with him.
He was such an idiot! He would stand in front of her door in the middle of the night and in the morning she would find him serving coffee for the two of them. She had learnt that he preferred tea more. He had seen that twitch on his face whenever he had drunk his self-made coffee. The other day, he had forcefully taken her to some stupid shop and bought a teddy for her room. And two days before, he found out that she was having a bad cold. She could still remember that nervous Arnav giving her some syrup.
A smile involuntarily curved up her lips. It was too late when she realized that she was smiling on her own.
"Do I look funny?" her trance was broken as the car came to a halt.
"Huh? What? No, you don't! what made you ask that?"
"Khushi... people smile alone only when they have lost it. But you are the good one. The crackpot one is me! And as far as I can see, I am the only one around. Who else would you be laughing at? The roadrunner?" he said as he raised his brow.
"You've lost it! Are you drunk?" Khushi asked as she chuckled.
Arnav couldn't help but smiled. He knew what was going through her mind, didn't he?
"Wouldn't mind if I was!" he said as he straightened his specs and drove off.
The car came to a halt as the two stepped out for dinner. It was somewhere near midnight after the two had seen a little more of NY. Surprisingly Arnav realized that Khushi had been a little different today. She was so... chirpy. He had never seen her smile this way. She looked gorgeous when her smile reached her eyes and made them spark.
They had their food with some chit-chat filling their tale with laughter and grins.
The two then walked up to the bar counter and ordered their drinks. While Arnav preferred some beer, Khushi refused to have any, not even the soft ones.
Having completed his drink, Arnav turned around to look at Khushi. But she wasnt there.
"Khushi?"
"Main yahan hoon" came the reply from nowhere.
Arnav turned his head towards the direction of the voice and saw her sitting on the floor with her legs crossed.
"Jesus Christ!!! What the hell happened to u?"
And in no time Arnav found out that she was drunk.
Khushi Gupta was... drunk
Arnav kneeled down beside her as he witnessed that she was grinning like a kid with her eyes half-closed and some random blabbers escaping her mouth.
"Khushi... Khushi get up..."
" Humka peeni hai peeni hai himka peeni hai!!!" she sang as she did the steps in her sitting posture.
He couldn't believe what this woman was doing! He shouldn't have played the song back the other day. The side effects were right in front of him now.
As soon as Khushi felt someone touch her, she immediately showed his hands away like a kid.
"Don't touch me... chashmish will come and take me! I am waiting for him!" she said as she pouted her lips.
Arnav's eyes widened in bewilderment. He couldn't believe that she was calling him a chashmish. And that's when he realized that he had taken of his specs. He immediately pulled it out off his collar and wore them.
"Khushi.. its me, uh... chashmish.."
Khushi turned in his direction and brought her head close as if checking on him.
"Ptch!! Its not uh-chashmish. He's my chashmish! Bolo... My chashmish"
Arnav couldn't help but grin wide at the woman sitting right in front of him. Where was she until now?
She looked so cute this way. She was such a child, the innocence oozing out of her eyes as her lips remained pouted. He saw her rubbing her eyes with her hands. He immediately pulled it away.
"Bolo na!!"
"Accha baba... Khushi, Its me... Your chashmish"
Khushi looked at him and gave him a thousand watts smile. Her eyes twinkled with happiness. She looked like an angel.
"Accha? Teek hai... now pick me na!" she said as she spread her arms motioning him to pick her up.
Nodding his head in utter disbelief, Arnav picked her up and made her sit.
He was about to move away when she held on to collar once again. He noticed that she was smiling at him.
"Tum bohot acche ho! I like you so much!!!!!" she said she spread her hands to show him how much, hitting him on his cheek at the same time.
"Ouch!!!!" Arnav held on to his just-slapped cheek and looked at her. She was blabbering something while waving her hands like a small kid. He couldn't help but admire her.
In one move, he held her waist and pulled her towards himself as she crashing into his chest. Their eyes met as their bodies collided. She could feel his hot breathe on her cheek. It tingled her. She could feel butterflies in her stomach. The feeling was totally alienated.
"I love you..." He whispered into her ear.
He had expected her to push him away and shout at him. But for the first time in life, Arnav's thought had been proved wrong. She stayed there, in his arms. He could feel her nuzzle closer to him and bury her head into his chest. His hands automatically curved around her petite form, holding her protectively.
"But I don't want to love you..." She silently sniffed.
Arnav silently heard her speak. He had told himself that he wouldn't interfere her. He wanted her to let it out. And he was glad that she was doing it. His one hand moved up to her head, silently caressing it.
And then she went silent again. He waited for her to speak, And finally decided to do it himself.
"And why is that so?"
She pulled out and looked into his eyes; he saw something different in them.
He had seen pain in them.
He had seen joy in them.
He had even seen anger in them.
But today he saw something different in them.
It was fear.
"I don't want to be hurt again..." She said, a lone tear escaping her eyes as she heaved a sigh.
"You know...it hurts a lot. Itna saara wala lot..." she said gesturing her hand in an outward motion once again.
He waited for her to continue.
She looked at him as he gestured her to go on.
"You know Arnav... I loved him so much!!! I was even ready to give up my everything for him. But he... He's such a bas***d!!! I wanna kill him!!"
He could see her fuming. And the next moment he saw her walking in some direction.
"Chodoongi nahi main tujhe!!! Ullu ke patthe!!!" Khushi said as she walked frantically.
"Khushi!! Khushi Stop!!" Arnav held her by the waist and swirled her back to the place in one fine move.
She fidgeted to let go off him but he was stronger.
"Leave me!! I wanna kill him!!"
"Khushi!! Alright... we need to take u home. You are totally drunk."
Lifting her into his arms, he carried her off to the car and carefully placed her on the passenger's seat as she looked at him silently.
"what are you staring at me for?" he asked, his voice stern.
"It hurts a lot. I don't wanna get hurt again. What if you leave me as well? I don't have a stock of hearts with me, Do I? I can't replace it every time I get hurt!..."
She remained quiet for a well as she felt his gaze on her and continued,
"I am afraid I'll fall in love with you Arnav... I-"
And before she could complete, he sealed her lips one quick yet soft kiss. Khushi was too shocked to respond that she took a minute to take in what was happening. Or perhaps she was too drunk to have known what was happening around her.
"I won't hurt you... I promise. But i know that you need some time. I'll give you that. But till then, I'll be best buddy you ever got. Just make it a little bit quick will you?" he said as he breathed on her lips.
Khushi shook her head trying to agree with him. Patting her cheek gently, Arnav closed the door for Khushi and walked past to his seat and drove her back home.

Opening to the door to her apartment with the duplicate keys she had left him him, Arnav carried Khushi to her room as she made her lie down on her bed and pulled her blanket over her petite form.
"Good night Khush..." He whispered into her ear.
He turned to leave when he felt his hand being held. He turned around to see Khushi holding his hand.
"Please stay?! I am afraid of the dark..."
Arnav felt a sting of pain in his heart as he deciphered the inner meaning of what she had just said.
Kissing her forehead protectively, he sat beside her on a couch and said,
"You don't have to be anymore... I am here, Right by your side. Always."

I told u its crap!!! So... Now I am taking leave of u guys. Will come back soon.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Yes its ME and I am here with a note once again. I know I am irritating u guys with these stuffs, but its like'. Duh' I don't know.
So here's the reason I am tying this down.
I am Discontinuing two FFs of mine coz I really don't know where its taking me.
1) A Legacy of Love
2) You're not Alone.
I don't know what I'll be doing with Untainted Love. The story is like stick in my head but I don't know if I'll take it any forward.
These are the reasons I am dropping my two baby's
A Legacy Love ' duh' I am lost. Its kind of complicating me. This was like my first one you know. And its getting real difficult to write down things for this one. And I am not good at this dark stuff ( as if I am good at others :D)
You are not Alone ' to be honest, I am not happy with this. I had started writing this for someone really close. But I am really not happy with the way this is shaping up. I realize that this was the crappest I've ever written. But hey! I might surprise you with an update.
So if this is the lone story for which you follow me, you can unbuddy me. I wont cry.
And yes'. I might be coming up with a new SS or FF. I have not yet planned on that. But I don't know.
P.S. Just as You Are isn't ending in the near future! I promise to complete it.
And yeah' thank u for staying up with for so long and bearing with me.
Stay beautiful,
Yash
