Chapter Thirty-Three - The (Final) Happy Ending
I quickly ran down the stairs and towards the guest room.
It felt like deja vu when I didn't see her there again. Just like before, I called out her name...no response. It was dark outside, so I just hoped that she didn't leave the house. I ran back towards the foyer when I found Bittuji standing in the doorway. He seemed...upset.
"Bittuji? You're back?"
"Chief..."
He held out a paper in front of me.
"I tried to stop her chief..."
I didn't understand what he was saying but I snatched the paper out of his hands. I stared down at another note in her handwriting.
RK,
You can't just drag me back here and then ask me to forget everything.
I'm leaving. Don't come after me. No, I'm not going back to ma or papa either.
Good-bye.
Not good enough to be yours,
Madhuri
I felt anger building up within me as I stared at the note. Anger, frustration, and sadness. Everything combined and put tears to my eyes. I crumpled up the note and threw it at the wall.
"NO! She can't!"
Bittuji watched me as I broke another table.
"Chief...she left in a taxi to the left. You can still go after her. Go. Now...go get my future bhabiji..."
Future bhabiji...
That's all I had to hear to motivate myself. I quickly hugged Bittuji and ran out the door and into my car.
I had to go after her.
I drove to the first airport I could find and asked for a Madhuri Malik. There was no ticked booked in her name. I tried Madhuri Sharma. No ticket. I asked for her name to be announced...I waited...but no one came.
I left the airport.
Where could she have gone? Madhuri...for some odd reason, the fact that she loved Bollywood managed to put thoughts of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge into my mind. The railway station!
I rushed towards the only railway station close to my home. I entered and asked for Madhuri Malik.
"Her trains been delayed by 20 minutes sir."
"THANK YOU!"
I'm sure I startled the front desk guy with my loud voice. But knowing that she was still there definitely made me feel better.
I rushed into the station and looked around through the crowd of people.
Fifteen minutes passed and I noticed a train coming to a stop in front of the station.
It had to be her train.
I had to find her!
I looked more frantically as I heard fans screaming out my name.
Then I noticed a bunch of curls. I looked ahead and saw her standing with her back towards me. She was about to enter the train but I ran towards her and grabbed her arm. I spun her to face me and saw her red eyes full of tears.
I felt like slapping myself for putting her in such a state. I could never stand to see tears in her eyes, especially if they were caused by me. It was odd; all the feelings I had suppressed for her...were coming out because I had accepted my love for her.
Her eyes widened as she saw me and then she glared at me.
"Let me go! My train's about to leave!"
I kept a strong grip on her arm as she looked back at the train and tried to free her arm.
"Last call for passengers!"
"RK! LET ME GO!"
She struggled more and I watched her pain filled face stare up at me as she gave up. Then I let her go. I stepped back as I let a tear fall from my eye. She looked at me shocked for a moment as I released her arm. She turned around and began to walk towards the train.
"Everybody I love leaves me. You're going to leave me too."
She froze in her steps. The train took off in front of her as she remained frozen. I sighed in relief as she missed her train. Then slowly she turned to look at me with a confused expression. She dropped her luggage and stared at me for a moment.
"You...love me?"
All the people in the station had left on the train; it was just her and I where we stood.
I didn't respond to her question.
Hadn't I made it obvious already?
She slowly walked towards me and put her hands on either side of my face.
"You love me?!"
She shook me, as I didn't respond.
"TELL ME."
I smacked my lips onto hers to respond to her question. She didn't pull away or fight the kiss. She wrapped her arms around my neck as I wrapped my arms around her waist and took in her moist lips. The feel of her lips beneath mine was perfect. That's exactly where they belonged. I ran my hands up her back and pushed her into my tightly as she ran her hands through my hair. The kiss began to grow intense until we heard something behind us.
"Ahem..."
We pulled free and I turned around to see Bittuji, sasuma, and sasurji standing behind us.
Madhu giggled and ran into her mother's arms. Then she pulled free and looked at me with the biggest smile on her face.
"How'd you like my acting?"
She winked at me and the four of them smiled and laughed as I continued to stare in their direction with a puzzled look on my face.
Then she walked back towards me and took a hold of my hands.
"The only way for you to know how you felt...was for you to almost lose what you loved...because you never know what you have until it's gone."
I stared down at her as she smiled her perfect smile up at me.
"Ma's idea!"
I looked at ma and she smiled.
Madhu hugged me and I couldn't help but wrap my arms around her. I hugged her tightly and rested my face in her hair. Then I opened my eyes and looked in the direction of Bittuji, sasuma, and sasurji.
All of a sudden, from behind Bittuji, I saw her walk in front of them...she wore a white sari and had a beautiful smile on her face. My heart stopped and my breath caught in my throat as she put up a thumb and nodded her head.
I felt a chill run down my spine and goose bumps formed on my skin. I blinked my eyes and then she disappeared.
My Madhu had brought me together with my Madhuri...I'd never forget her. She was my first love. I'd always love her.
Madhuri pulled away slowly and looked up at me.
"I love you RK."
I smiled down at her.
"I love you too Madhuri."
"I'm yours."
"Forever yours."
