Chapter 42

Geet and Pinky were kept busy all morning, running through procedures from ordering stationary to evacuating the building in the event of fire. They also received intensive training on the MK code of business conduct and etiquette. "God, MK sounds so boring...all these policies and procedures...I bet he uses them on dates too!" Geet whispered quietly to Pinky, trying not to giggle.

Rishi saw the girls giggling and silenced them with a glance. "If looks could kill we would be dead" Geet whispered before settling down to pay attention to the 20^th procedure of the day.

Maan on the other hand finished his meeting with the client and rounded up his heads of department to inform them of the new projects, for which they would need to allocate staff.

At lunchtime, Rishi said, "You will be glad to know, that your general induction has been completed. Obviously there will be additional policies you will need to read for your specific departments, which your managers will tell you more about"

Pinky groaned under her breath, "not more policies" laying her head on the table out of tiredess and boredom. "When will the real work start?"

Rishi who hadn;t heard Pinky, continued "Right, as it is 1 O'clock, I will escort you ladies down to lunch where I will hand you over to your respective managers, who are waiting for you."

Pinky let out a yelp of excitement, at the thought of lunch and food. "Oh God, Geet, I thought I was going to faint if we had to go on for longer without food" she said to Geet as they followed Rishi to the canteen.

Rishi introduced Geet to Meera, who was the head of the interior design department as well as her new boss. Meera had been working for Khurana Constructions for the past 5 years and was married to Yash, who was the chief architect in the firm. Both had studied with Maan and been specifically head-hunted to work with him, when he took over the family business.

Pinky, on the other hand needed no introduction to Adi who would be her manager and almost ran into his arms saying "a friendly face at last, now let's not waste anytime, and get some food" dragging him by the arm to the joing the queue. Adi, on the other hand was embarrassed by Pinky's sudden display of affection, and said "Not here, Pinky" to which she replied suggestively "Then where, Adi?" making him blush even more.

After lunch, Pinky left with Adi to explore the finance department and Geet was taken by Meera up to the design department where she introduced her to the other designers and administrative staff. She also introduced her to Yash, who happened to be walking by. All of them made Geet feel welcome. "I will enjoy working here" she thought happily to herself. They spent the afternoon discussing how the department worked and the expectations of a junior designer. Meera dicussed Geet's undergraduate experience and decided that it would be good for her to work on one of the new projects which MK had mentioned earlier. They were in mid discussion in Meera's office when Pinky swang by and said "Geet". Geet excused herself and went to talk to Pinky.

"What is it Pinky?" Geet asked. "Please make it quick, I need to get back to Meera"

"Well I am finished for today, so I was thinking of heading home. But I can wait for you" Pinky replied

"I don't know how long I will be, so it would be best if you went home. I will come by myself, don't worry" Geet said

"Are you sure?" Pinky asked

"Yes of course. After living in Delhi for the last 2 years, I think I know how to get around" Geet responded

"Okay, see you at home then." Pinky said, leaving Geet to get on with her discussions with Meera.

"Uhm Geet, it would be a good idea, if you looked at the project plan and then came up with some of your own ideas" Meera told Geet. "Now where did I put the plan?" Meera asked herself looking around the office. "You know Geet, ever since I became pregnant, I have become so forgetful. It is all Yash's fault." she said patting her tummy and scratching her head trying to remember. "Yes...now I remember. It is in MK's office on his desk. Do you know where his office is?" Meera asked, to which Geet nodded in the affirmative. "Okay, would you mind going to get it?"

"No, of course not. Why don't you rest while I go and find the plan" Geet replied, leaving Meera's office.

Geet approached the large corner office at the end of the corridor. The desks outside, normally occupied by the PA and secretary, were empty. The door to the office was slightly open. She knocked hesitantly on the door, and then when she received no response, knocked a little louder, saying "MK?" After waiting a few moments, she decided that the office was empty and it was safe to enter. She tentatively opened the door and peered inside. Once she was satisfied that no one was in the office she went inside. The room was tastefully decorated in black and white, with a large glass desk hosting his computer, phone and files, 2 large black leather sofas, a glass coffee table and a wide screen TV. Two of the walls were ceiling to floor glass, looking out onto the Delhi skyline. The view was breathtaking. She liked this office very much.

After a few moments, she realised that Meera was waiting for her to come back with the project plan, so decided she should stop admiring the decor and get on with finding the plan. She started searching through the files on the table.

Maan had a lunch meeting with a client which had overrun by several hours. He was only now returning to the office in the evening to collect his belongings before going home. He hadn't had time to think about Geet until he got into his lift when a phone call from the detective left him frustrated. The detective had followed up on the 2 Pinky's registered with the college. One was a lady in her late 30s who seemed to be an eternal student, failing courses and re-enrolling whereas the other was a pimply 19 year old boy. Neither of them knew or heard of Geet. He left the lift and entered the corridor to his office. He took off his tie and waistcoat slinging them on his arm and loosened he top 2 buttons of his white shirt in annoyance and said "Where are you Geet?" to himself.

He entered his office and saw the tall woman from earlier leaning over his desk. She had her back to him, so didn't notice his entrance. He stared at her back. "Why does she remind me of Geet? Could this be Geet? But Geet doesn't wear these types of clothes...but then again, I thought Geet had never set foot outside of Hoshiyarpur before...and she did qualify as an interior designer, and I employ interior designers...so, it is entirely possible..." he thought. He closed the door quietly, putting his waistcoat and tie down on the sofa nearby, and stood silently leaning against the door with folded arms watching her and waiting for her to turn around.

She suddenly stood up straight and exclaimed "Finally I have found you" out loud, hugging the project plan to her chest. Maan stood up straight hearing her voice "Geet?" he whispered, but too low for her to hear.

She turned around and walked forward, not noticing Maan standing staring at her.

Suddenly she felt a hand on her right arm pulling her. She began to let out a scream, when a hand covered her mouth, and a body pushed her against the door. Trying not to panic, she hesitantly looked up to see an intense pair of dark brown eyes staring into her startled hazel ones.

Finally maan found his better half.
