Part 41
'Who can that girl be??? He doesn't have many friends who are girls... atleast not that I know of! What if he didn't tell you about them or specifically her???... But why! I thought we were good enough friends to share everything... So what Rashi! Why will he share something so personal with you??? Whenever you've met each other till now, it has been for Arjun and Arohi. Had anything personal ever come up between you two? No... have you shared anything personal with him till now? No... so how can you expect him to share if some girl is flirting with him?!!
... But who can that girl be???'
Rashi frowned at her thoughts. Her mind was debating at super sonic speed and giving her a super huge headache. She had even failed to notice the red and blue mark on the side of Romits forehead. Later, when she did, and asked him about it, he had given her a lame excuse about falling off his bed in his sleep. If Rashis mind would not have been preoccupied, then she would have definitely noticed that something was wrong. But she was busy mulling over some half baked information received from Lovedeep and wasting her energy in being jealous about a girl, whom she didn't even know!
But Dadis mind was as alert as a jungle animal. The only difference being, she could see all see all her grandchildren were distracted today. The most that caught her attention was the simmering tension between Arjun and Romit. Arjun had refused to look into Romits direction ever since he had entered the room and sat on the breakfast table. Romit had a record of upsetting his brother over stupid things but this one looked quite serious. The marks on Romits face made her guess that probably he had gotten in to a fight in college and Arjun was upset with him about it. Luckily that distracted her enough to not mull over Arohis periodic blushes which were a result of her last night expeditions!

"Bro..."
Arjuns hand stilled on the door of his car. He had tried, as unhurriedly as possible, to leave the breakfast table and go to office. Arohi had reminded him about speaking to Romit, not that he needed any reminders, but he could not gather the courage to look his younger brother in the eye and apologise. Arjun had never been good with words, so he decided to go to office and figure out a way in which he could show Romit how sorry he was.
But now he had no choice. He had to turn around and face him. Arjun held the door open with his hand on it, and turned slightly to face his brother. Before Arjun could look in to his eyes, he noticed the faint bruises on the side of his forehead where he had hit the bed. Cursing himself Arjun looked away. His hands fisted in anger, anger which was directed at himself.
"Voh... Bro... actually mein aapse kehna chahta tha ki... voh... kal ke liye... im sorry..."
Arjuns eyes snapped to look at his brother, who was looking around, fumbling to apologise. He noticed a certain kind of sorrow in Romits eyes, as if he was regretting something. Arjun felt ashamed of himself. He should've have been the one apologising but instead his brother, whom he had hit mercilessly, was saying sorry. Arjun searched the reason for his sorrow and apology and when he found it, he cursed himself again.
If Romit had a father figure in his life, then it was Arjun. Rudra was his biological father but Romit had followed Arjuns footsteps since childhood. Not Mikhails, who was his brother by blood. Arjuns opinions, especially what he thought of Romit, meant a lot to him. He knew that Arjun felt he was stupid, and he did not mind that, because he was stupid, but he also knew that Arjun loved and trusted him a lot. And somewhere, yesterday, when Arjun had reacted so violently, it was a symbol of his brothers lack of faith in him. Hence Romit, instead of being angry at his bro, was disappointed with himself because he felt that he had given Arjun a reason, to doubt his character.
Arjuns eyes misted and he gulped. Destiny had definitely taken away a lot from him but it had also given him back ten fold. If Arjun had had a normal life and family, and ever had a brother by blood, he would not have been anywhere closer to Romit. He knew that he had been extremely lucky in his relations which were not related to him by blood. Be it Dadi, Rashi di, Romit, Billu, Makarand, Raj or Arohi. And it was in times like these that he felt grateful for this life and for the people in it.
Arjun closed the door and walked towards Romit, covering the two-step distance slowly. He looked at his shoes, trying to figure out the words which refused to come out of his mouth. Closing his eyes, Arjun gathered all his strength and opened them. He walked half a step closer to him and raised his hand to inspect the faint red bump on Romits forehead. The pain that Romit felt due to Arjuns touch was nothing, compared to the happiness he was feeling that Arjun had approached him. After all these years, he could read his brother, and could make out that it was his way of silently apologising for yesterday.
Arjun dropped his hand after a minute and pushed both his hands in his pockets.
"Chal... tujhe college chod deta hoon."
Having said that, he turned around and walked to his car, with Romit in tow, who was smiling and almost skipping with joy. Arjun started the ignition and waited for Romit to settle down and put his seat belt. He pulled down his window and his eyes fell on the terrace upstairs. He could see Arohi standing near the balustrade, with her eyes shining and her lips stretched out with the biggest smile ever on her face.

Gauri was staring outside the window. Her mind was at complete loss. She did not know what to do. She had noone to talk to, share her problems with. There was only one person in this world who would have treated her problems like her own, and that was Arohi. Gauri had closed that door with her own hands forever, a long time back. Maybe not forever, but for now, they were bolted shut. She closed her eyes to recount the events of last night.
Mikhail had been extremely civil and approachable to Gauri last night. He picked her up from her house, complimented her on her clothes, her looks, very subtle hints, nothing too flattering or alarming. He had taken her hand softly in his and guided her through the party, introducing her to certain people that he wished to introduce her to. He had looked after her like a perfect gentleman. Gauri had definitely felt better, although not completely comfortable, as the evening had progressed. She eventually decided to have a word with him regarding the engagement and marriage before he dropped her back.
Gauri was a silent person by nature, but her recent trip to the jail had pushed her deep inside her shell, in to a dark dingy corner. Somewhere, where she could not allow anyone to trespass. Earlier, it was only Arohi who could break all barriers and not care for personal space as she would aggressively demand the reason for her silence, and not rest till she got one. But now, noone cared enough to pursue her for it.
Suddenly Gauri realised how much she was missing Arohis presence in her life. It was now that she realised the value of their friendship that she had brutally terminated by her one thoughless act. And for whom??? For the man who didn't even love her back! Gauri smiled in sarcasm at her own foolish self. She regretted her every action, every single word that she had done or said to hurt Arohi. If god would give her one chance, only one, then she would want to make it up to her one and only friend. It was actually Arohi who needed to give her that chance, not god.
But for now, how will she handle Mikhail? When he had dropped her back home, she had tried to open the subject of their sudden engagement. But he had not listened to one word of hers regarding their impending wedding. He felt she needed sometime to get used to the idea and hence had asked her to wait for some days more before taking a decision. Mikhail had been nothing but sweet to her and hence she had agreed to atleast think about it. Gauri leaned her head against the window frame deep in thought, whether she should really give it a thought or not!

"Coffee???"
Arjun looked up from his laptop to see Rashi enter his cabin, with two coffee mugs in her hands. Closing down his laptop, Arjun smiled and took one mug from her. Rashi settled herself on the chair opposite her brother.
"Tum bhi aaj raat ko chal rahe ho???"
Arjun nodded silently at her question. Rashi smiled secretly behind her mug, but Arjun caught it and frowned. What all was his crazy wife going to make him do??!!!
Arjun liked movies, but English ones. He felt they were more subject oriented and sensible. In the Indian film industry, Arjun only watched selected movies. His favourite actor was Aamir Khan as he felt he made more serious, more mature films. He had never liked Shah Rukh or Salman Khan. He was not fond of the lover boy type, romantic heroes who looked unreal. Arohis craze for SRK drove him nuts at times and made him hate that man more! But he had agreed to go to the movie for two reasons tonight.
1) It was a Salman Khan movie, not an SRK one. So Arohi wont be swooning over him so much. He would rather have her drool over her husband than some fake, mediocre-looking-guy-enhanced-with-makeup.
2) Arohi had a point when she said that the only way he can make it up to Romit was spending more time with him and making him realise how much he means to Arjun. There cannot be a better apology than making his brother feel special. And for that Arjun had to spend some quality family time, even if it means watching a movie which he doesn't want to.
And so Arjun had agreed. The movie had to be a typical bollywood drama filled with lots and lots of masala and songs. When she had mentioned it was her and Romits choice, he had pretty much guessed that. The movie will be one to which Arohi can dance to and Dadi could occasionally whistle on. Arjun sighed deeply, imagining the 3 hours of torture which he will have to endure tonight. He could make out that Rashi was happy about it as Salman was her favourite actor. He just wished that it would make Romit happy enough to forget last nights unfortunate events.

A cell phone rang in the Singhania mansion and Arohi answered it almost immediately.
"Hi Karan...
Nai aaj nahi...
Hum sab aaj movie ke liye jaa rahe hain.
Kal?
Ok tomorrow then. Venue I will tell you.
Ya...
Ok. Bye."
Arohi hung up and threw her phone on the bed. She went to Arjuns wardrobe to pick out a t-shirt and jeans for him. There was no way she was going to allow him to come to the movies in his three piece suit.
Half an hour later Arohi, Raj, Romit, Shefali, Rashi and Dadi were waiting outside the theatre for Arjun and Billu, who had gone to get tickets for Dabanng 2.
Hud Hud Dabanng!!! đ
