Part Twelve – The Plan

Why'd he go silent…? The question remained on my mind for days.

Now that I was keeping track of time, I knew exactly three days had passed since he had come to meet me.

I cleaned myself up, made myself look presentable.

Shaved off the beard that had grown and fixed my hair.

His words rang through my ears, "Stay away from Madhuri."

Who the hell did he think he was telling me whom to stay away from?

"BITTUJI!"

I called for him louder than I had before.

He came rushing in, out of breath.

"Yes chief?"

"What time is it?"

His eyes widened slightly at how I had called him for such a little thing. I remember him looking behind me at the clock on my dresser and then back at me.

"10:56 AM chief…"

"Wrong."

"What…but…"

"You're wrong Bittuji."

"How chief?"

"It's time for RK to go teach someone a lesson."

He stared at me, a nervous look on his face.

"Chief…"

"I'll need you to call the Sharma mansion and…"

Oh, sorry…had to cut myself off there. What did you think? I'd tell you my plans that quickly? Nah. I had something up my sleeve. Something for sure…

As I reached the Sharma mansion gates, the guards didn't open the gates.

"Sorry, we were informed not to…"

"Not to let a Rishabh Kundra in right?"

"Yes sir."

I looked at the guard and sarcastically laughed as I shook my head.

"Never thought I'd see the day."

He looked at me confused as I continued to shake my head.

"Obeying a mere background actor rather than a superstar who has lots of…"

I flashed up some money.

That's when I saw the spark full of greed in his eyes.

He rushed to the gates and opened them quickly.

As I drove by him, I handed him the cash and went inside to park my car where I had the last time I'd been there.

I knocked at the door and the same maid opened the door.

She stared at me for a moment, hesitantly.

I sighed and decided to pull out some more cash.

It was so easy to win them over with cash. I bet I was giving them more than Manvir did in one paycheck.

She took the cash and stepped out of the way. I slowly stepped into the Sharma mansion once again.

She left me there, alone.

Exactly what I had planned.

I walked up the stairs.

And reached the same room with the two big doors.

Oh, did you think I was going to meet Raj? Well, you're wrong…

I stared at the door for a moment and then knocked at it a few times.

There was silence at the other side of the door.

I tried at the door, but it was locked.

I knocked again.

"Madhuri?"

There was silence for a slight moment and then I heard something fall in her room.

"RK?!"

I heard her quiet voice on the other end.

Suddenly her doors flung open.

Pain hit me again.

No, this time it wasn't because she reminded me of Madhu…this time it was because her eyes were red from crying, she didn't look herself. And for some odd reason…that bothered me.

"RK…"

Her voice had lost its charm; it wasn't full of life anymore.

Before I could say anything, she flung herself into my arms.

She cried on my shoulders.

I lifted my hands to comfort her, but before I could touch her back, I put my hands down and placed them at my side.

I refused to hug her back.

She took a moment to cry and then she pulled away.

She looked at me and then towards the ground.

"Sorry…"

She turned around and walked back into her room.

I stepped into her room and closed the door behind me.

"I'm guessing today you're not acting?"

I questioned her but she remained silent.

"Madhuri?"

She didn't say a word.

After a minute of silence, she slowly turned to face me again.

"How'd you get in here?"

"Like I did last time?"

"Really RK?"

"Well…with a little help from Bittuji…"

"Huh?"

"Called and invited your entire family to an imaginary pre-awards function. I figured they wouldn't take you. Not surprised I was right."

She grimaced slightly as though my words had reminded her of something, then she looked to the ground and spoke softly.

"You did all that to come see me?"

I didn't know how to answer her.

Because I didn't know the answer myself.

Had I gone there to see her? Why? Why'd I…Maybe I just needed to see my Madhu, even though she wasn't my Madhu…her face and voice resembled Madhu's.

I changed the topic.

"What's wrong Madhuri? I know. I just know it has something to do with that Raj."

"N…"

"Don't even deny it, you and I both know that he doesn't like you."

Her eyes shot up towards me. She seemed shocked that I had known that.

"What? No…no, he loves me…he's my brother RK."

"Madhu…he doesn't like you. Don't lie to me. What'd he do to you?"

"Nothing, I'm fine, see?"

She spun in a circle to show me she was fine, but her face said otherwise.

"Then what's with your eyes?"

"I've been…overacting…"

"Don't lie to me Madhu."

"Fine. You're right. He doesn't like me. He's never liked me. Don't ask me why…because even I don't know the answer."

I stared at her as a few tears left her eyes. I wanted to brush them away but I didn't want to at the same time…

She brushed away her tears herself and stared at me.

Then she answered my original question.

"I'm home-bound again RK…"

"What?! Why?!"

"Raj…he told my parents it's not safe for me to be out and about yet. He said I never should've left home in the first place. He said I attracted a monst…"

She stopped speaking and looked at me with eyes that were sorry but also upset at the same time.

"Monster? Me? Oh…that Raj…I'll…"

"No RK! Don't do anything to him."

"Why in the world do you even care about him so much?!"

"Because he's my brother…"

"Madhu, you listen to me. He's not a good brother. You don't have to listen to what your brother or parents say. You're old enough to make decisions for yourself now. Don't let them treat you like a child and…"

I was cut off by the noise of a door closing downstairs.

I looked at Madhuri and her eyes widened as her mouth opened slowly.

"THERE'S WAS NO AWARD FUNCTION. DAD! I'm going to find out who made that call!"

I heard Raj screaming from the stairs and then the sound of someone climbing the stairs…

Oh shit.
