Chapter 65: Good Bye AshNi! ❤️❤️
The Epilogue:
In ur arms my luv, I lay my each day, my each nite, and my every passing breath..
And I hope I cud reach those stars, and tht moon, and can have u forever in my dreams..
And wen I walk those long roads of life, I see u by my side..
Tht I cud hold ur hand and smile at my fate..
And wen I luk up above the heaven, let me pray each day till the last breath of my life..
Tht let me b blessed and humbled with this love and let me not part from the one who taught me to luv..To luv and to live..
So here on the earth and thr in the life thraftr..
make me feel and believe, tht thrs a thing called eternity to which our luv wud last!
And tht thrs is something called soul and a soulmate, which will not depart or part..
Let this humble body perish,bt let tht name, tht soul remain attach to me forever..to tht eternity!

Ashutosh looked at this beautiful poster of a couple walking down, hand in hand, on a beautiful long unwinding road and those lines were engraved in cursive writing over thm in Golden ink! He touched it. It was unmistakably Nidhi's handwriting! He smiled at it as he traced and moved over each line lovingly and read it again! Nidhi had placed it on the wall right infront of thr bed upstairs in thr room of his baba's house. "jaaan'Tea time" her voice chirped as she stepped inside the room and placed the tea tray on thr nite stand. Ashu promptly turned towards her and smiled and she answered him without him even asking,"baba is resting and he already had his tea..his adrakwali chai.. my baba is giving him good company!"she added. His smile widened as he approached her and kissed her pink cheeks flushing with redness and health! She blushed in her typical style and questioned him with her eyes. His lips went to peck her lips in reply. "thank u.." he said. "for wat?" she asked. "for this beautiful 4th anniversary gift!" he pointed at the poster. Nidhi's blush deepened as her eyes glinted at something! He smiled slightly,"wat? u have something else to gift too?" Nidhi nodded a yes and added mischeviously,"infact it wud b a 5th anniversary gift actually!" His puzzled face amused her and she hit him playfully on his forehead! "u seriously cant think sometimes!"she cried. "wat?"he asked cluelessly! Nidhi looked at him expectantly. He questioned her with his eyes! She made a cute pout. "Cant u see any changes in me?" "yeaah'yaah..uh... I think u have become thin!" he offered a safe statement bt for some reason Nidhi glared at him for tht. "uh..okay.. i mean u luk more..u know.. desirable inspite of the slight weight tht u seemed to have put on!" his hands slid into his front pockets, his cheeks flushed, and he let his eyes twinkle to express wat he meant as he confessed honestly. Nidhi bit her thumbnail in shyness! He was probably going to remain as clueless as ever! He was cute in his confession bt very clueless, and perhaps even slightly dumb in such matters inspite of being a doctor. Nidhi bit a side of her lower lip as she moved around him assessing him. He was still wondering sincerely and she nodded her head. Thr was no point, he wasn't going to get it! Laying her hands on his shoulders, she tip toed to reach his ear from behind and wisphered biting her lip again,"a gift tht I cud give u now bt can only present u till nxt year!" His face lit up instantly as if a sudden lightning had struck him suddenly. He turned around in a flash and grabbed her face overwhelmingly,"seriously?" he asked, unable to believe it! Nidhi lowered her eyes and bit the inner mucosal part of her lips shyly again. His smile widened from ear to ear as he drew her close and placing his head on her forehead, he nuzzled her nose adoringly,"ohhh.. my sweetheart.." he cried as his joy knew no bounds and no words wer enuf to express his joy at this delightful news. Not tht he hadn't dreamt it umpteen number of times since Nidhi was about to complete her PG degree. Oh! he had been impatiently dreaming abt this day! And he overwhelmingly, almost suddenly, giving in to his exuberant surge, captured her lips and kissed her very hard. Gathering her in both arms, nuzzling her and showering her with all his affection, he finally cried in unrestrained jubilance," oh'ho ho..ho.. I m going to become a papa.. sweetheart.. my darling.. I 'am..going..to ..become.. a ppaaapppaa!" he cried loudly and pecked her hard again. Nidhi was delighted to see him soo excited. He cud've crushed her in his joy, bt he refrained himself and made her gently sit on the bed, taking utmost care of her. Nidhi giggled,"jaan.. its not as if I m 8 months' pregnant!" he groaned,"so wat..u need to take care!"he cried. She smiled widely and he made her lay on the bed, resting her head on headrest, he gave her her cup of tea. "I will b back sweetheart..v need to give this delightful news to baba and papa.. rite now..!" he cried and ran downstairs and Nidhi slowly sat up on her bed as she placed back her tea to wait for him. She knew he was superexcited and had been waiting for this news like forever. Tho he seldom expressed this kind of unrestrained excitement so openly. He had even never let her know abt his eager impatient waiting for this news, bt she was his wife and she knew wat went inside tht head. A while later, Nidhi cud hear shrieks of joy from downstairs and she hid her head in shyness betn her folded knees as she heard thr footsteps scuttling up. "oh! my baaccchiii'" dadi bua cried joyfully and placed a tender hand on her head and tipped her shy face up to take a look at her beautifully glowing face and took her balliyaa,"my bacchi.. may Lord keep u and ur baby safe and sound!" A tender loving hand of her nana ran on her head and she got up to take his blessings. "Ohhh..thrs bt no need.." her nana cried and before she cud bent down to her own baba, he gathered her in his arms,"so my daughter is gonna become a mother.. haan!" he said proudly squeezing her in his warm hug. Nidhi bowed her head and blushed and wen she glanced up, her eyes met a beautiful picture of Ashutosh. Sheer joy was visible on his face as tht smile tht had spread on his lips cudnt b contained on his face.
Nidhi glanced back briefly at a resting Ashutosh and laid a tender hand at the last picture from tht day! It was a group photograph taken on an automated camera. Nidhi smiled as those moments flashed back in her mind and she tenderly touched Ashutosh's widely smiling face one last time before turning the pages of tht photo album tht she was holding in her hands. And those pages again took her to yet another memory.
"ohh.. wer is my sweetie.. wer is my littlest.. sweetest cutest thing..?" A voice chirped from the door and with sudden alertness, she left wat she was latching to and promptly turned her curious face in search of the face tht belonged to tht cooing voice and as soon as it laid on Ashutosh, she started kicking excitedly in air with unrestrained enthusiasm. A lovliest of smile appeared on her lips as tht familiar face drew close cajoling and cooing her. He cutely pecked her cheeks and scolded,"thts bad littlest.. u don't leave ur food in the middle to welcome ur papa.." he tugged at her chin as she continued to wildly throw her legs and hands not listening to him. He held on her mouth and tried to make her latch on Nidhi again, bt she was not interested in her food anymore. She clasped on to his finger with her tiny delicate hand instead and moved it closer to her dribbling mouth to nibble it. "oh..no... u cant do tht.. u know tht..!" he cried cooing, trying to loosen his finger from her clutch, bt she had grasped it very securely tight! Nidhi chuckled,"oh! she is not going to let her papa go..u know" "bt u haven't completed ur food..thts not like my good girl..u know!" he cried bt his littlest smiled back finely in response and threw her legs to hit him playfully as he drew closer over her. "ohh.. my littlest...u luv it don't u.. u luv to eat ur papa's fingers..bt thts a bad habit u knw tht.." he cried withdrawing his finger which she was still trying to nibble and leaned down to kiss her soft pink cheeks. Bt his little one this time caught hold of his shirt as he bent and started kicking excitedly again in apparent triumph! "oh.. okay.. so u got hold of my shirt!.. fine.. alrite..." he cried and propping on his elbow, he gently slid down beside Nidhi who was feeding his little girl. Nidhi smiled at the duo and remarked,"she really misses u in the day.. u know.. now she wont let u go.. u shud've gotten refreshed first..u mst be tired.." He stared down at his little daughter who searched for Nidhi with one hand to latch on again and the other still tugged his shirt cutely as she played while suckling. "u know I cannot resist seeing her as soon as I step into the house.."He gently caressed her soft head. Her kicks grew and she pulled on his shirt hard indicating tht she liked it. He chuckled,"she is always so excited 'she is jst like u sweetheart.." Nidhi laughed,"yeah..and she luvs u .. u know..jst like me.. and she luvs tugging to u..jst like me!" He smiled as thr little daughter paused briefly to stare at thr conversing mouths with big wide curious eyes. Kicking, she latched on again as he caressed her head softly again.
"U know.. she so deliciously smells of ur milk.. and it really tempts me..its taste is so mystical for me.. especially since I never got to taste it or experience wat it really feels like.." he said softly still looking at his daughter who again had stopped, left her mom, and was staring beautifully at Ashu. He smiled and she smiled back at him. Nidhi stared at Ashu for a while,"u can taste it.." she replied softly. He smiled.."oh' bt will not my little one feel offended..hmm.. my cutesy...my sweetie..is going to feel sooo offended..." he pecked and nuzzled and played her a bit and she responded overenthusiastically. "oh..our little one has enuf of her feeds.. her belly is full and surely she will have some more before she dozes of.. and she definitely wudnt mind sharing a bit of its taste with her dad..will u my sweetheart?" she looked at her daughter and asked,"will u..tell me my sweetie..wud u mind giving ur daddy a little taste of ur sweet food.. hmm.. will u? say no.. my sweet little darling.. say no'nooo'no papa, u can have it.. u can have it as much as u want.. rite?" Ashu chuckled as she responded actively to her mom and glanced back at her mom and dad in turns, as if she was trying to understand thr ongoing conversation and wondering at the words tht popped out so quickly from thr lips. "Come.. " Nidhi looked at Ashutosh and uttered tenderly, gently forwarded her mouth to him. Ashutosh looked at her. "Come please.. " she uttered once again and Ashutosh was almost drawn towards her without control. He took her lips gently and she slowly lowered his head to her neck as she arched to open herself up to give him the access. He traced downwards gently along her fuller curves to reach wer he did not know wat to expect, wat sort of taste held for him thr, wat sort of emotions wud b invoked, bt wen he took her, he found an instant peace and he had never tasted anything so blissfully deeply satisfying before. Nidhi closed her eyes at tht sensation. It was unique and inexplicable. Suddenly, all her motherly feelings seemed to gush forward to caress him as she gently ruffled thru his head with warm affection. If she cud, she wud provide him everything tht he had missed in his life. His daughter kicked him and he drew apart and cried to Nidhi,"I told u she wud feel offended.." Nidhi chuckled rubbing off her brimming tears,"she is not offended coz u stole her food.. she is offended coz u r busy with something else..she wants her time..she wants her papa's time all to herself..she has been waiting for whole day" Ashutosh chuckled,"is tht so.. my sweetie.. really is tht y u feel offended.. hmmm?" his little one gurgled and kicked playfully. She spent quite a sometime playing with her mom and dad before latching on to her mom once again.
After she was done Nidhi sat up taking her in her lap. She wasn't letting Ashutosh's shirt go and it had become almost her habit to catch hold of him wen he returned, not letting him go till she fed and she luved to fall asleep in both her mother's and father's arms. Leaning back on the head rest, Ashutosh laid Nidhi in his arms with thr little one lying in hers as he gently pulled the duvet over thmslves. He gently caressed both his girls. Nidhi slowly drifted into sleep over his chest and his little one played with him for a while before finally succumbing to drowsiness from her overfilled stomach. Thy both luved to doze off in his arms this way and however tired he mite b from his long tiring day at the hospital, he never felt more relaxed thn taking thm in his arms. He squeezed thm affectionately and stared at thm for a while before drifting into a brief sleep himself. It was thr this picture tht Angie had clicked on her mobile one day and felt awed and inspired to have a kid of her own!
Nidhi smiled to herself. With Angie coming to her mind, Nidhi's thots drifted to tht wonderful day wen tht group picture tht she was looking at had been taken. It was at Nidhi's clinic and everyone had gathered with thr little ones to celebrate Armaan-Trupti's Aarush's birthday in her daycare center jst nxt to her clinic as she had been keeping pretty busy with the viral tht had been going among kids in the town. Angie-Rangu had joined thm with little toddler Dev. Nidhi-Ashu's sweetie pie Nishi had grown up a bit big. She was looking curiously at Mallika's newborn Debashish, whom everyone was playing with. Rohan's proud face was beaming as his wife was expecting! It was a fun celebration wer all family members had gathered to celebrate this birthday wen he had come to his aunty's house for a vacation! All in all it was a grt big family photograph. Even chote sarkar and his wife had joined thm with thr two kids Raja and Pari. Nidhi had started her own pediatric clinic and it was doing grt, bt for her convienience, Ashu had started a little daycare sort of thing. All thr kids wer supposed to b taken care of thr under Chote Sarkar's wife's care and as Nidhi had her clinic close to KGH, Ashu's lunches happened mostly at Nidhi's clinic with his wife and daughter. "jiju.. I have heard tht u r planning a whole cricket team!" Angie teased Ashu as he entered. He glared at Nidhi who was chuckling. "oh! no.. she hadn't revealed any of ur secret plans.. u know I jst guessed.. u have opened up such a big daycare for her convienience.. and u know the speed with which u two r going.. " she glanced at Nidhi and winked. Nidhi rebuked her with her eyes. Ashutosh jst shrugged off and went over to help his wife out of the chair. Her tummy was already bulging with a 6 month old inside it! "So wat.. " Armaan came to his rescue,"I will b proud to become a mama of thousand kids.. and at least one of thm shud b exactly like Ashu.. my jaan..my best friend.. and he will have grt friendship with Aarush..jst like us!" he hugged his friend and Trupti had chuckled silently. Since Armaan had become a mama for the first time, he so looked forward to becoming a mama again and as soon as he had heard of Nidhi's 2nd pregnancy, he had literally thrown a huge party in celebration and had promptly flown down to Lucknow to pamper his sweet sister. Nidhi had smiled at Trupti. And it was bt a fact tht her hubby had turned naughtier with age, he was expecting a lot of kids and cud hardly wait to make thr family grow big!
He had pulled Nidhi once after laying thr daughter in her cradle. "sweetheart..dont u think our little daughter needs a company of a sibling'" "oh..she has .. Aarush.." "eh.. u know!" He had cried and picked her up and laid on the bed and drawn her close. Nidhi had bit her lips naughtily and uttered a,"No!" Ashutosh had drawn back and looked horrifiedly at her. Nidhi cudnt bite back her giggles at his expressions. Ashutosh had jumped on to punish her,"oh.. u mischievious little imp..u r going to get back.. u know tht.. very punishingly!" he muttered and went on to gather her lips and raid her with his eager hands, but she pushed him away hard and rolled out of the bed from other side giggling mischieviously and showing him a thumbs down,"oh! try hard!"she cried. "really?"he cried out aloud pursuing her out of bed. Bt she shushed him pointing at thr daughter and he frowned at her cutely pulling her close,"u r soo mean.. u know tht!"he huffed in whisper. Nidhi nodded a no and bit her lips mischievioulsy while blushing,"bt I was thinking abt ur tht fantasy!" His lips turned up slyly at her boldness,"wat fantasy"he asked her huskily. "tht"she replied. "which?"he asked. Her eyes twinkled as she wriggled out his grasp and made way her way to restroom picking up a saree from the cabinet. "latch the door and wait for me.." she whispered and disappeared in the restroom. And wen she reappeared, she was draped in nothing bt a saree, literally nothing bt jst a saree! His expressions wer worth all tht boldness tht she had displayed. And he was drawn to unwrap his beautiful little pixie!
Nidhi bit her lip and wondered how she cud still blush so deeply remembering those moments with her hubby at this age and after so many years of accumulating such naughty moments. She ran thru the pictures again. Thr wer various pictures of her Nishi and Ashu. And thy looked so cute together. Nishi luved Ashu's gray hair and his handsome bearded jaw and she luved to sleep snuggling into her papa, jst like Nidhi. Thr was a cute pic of Nishi sitting on his shoulders on both sides and yelling loudly playfully and Ashu had her school bag and her waterbag hanging on his front as he took her to her schoolbus. Nidhi chuckled at tht. Ashu particularly enjoyed watching thm gobbling up deliciously on thr fav hot burger with mayonese sauce topped up with extra cheese and Nishi particularly luved licking on tht dripping sauce, for which Ashu wud scold her bt thn wud give in to her pretty cute coaxing smile and Nidhi's naughty giggles. Nidhi smiled remembering those times. Ashu really luved to pamper her a lot and Nishi was ditto a copy of Nidhi, both in manners and looks and Ashu pampered her as much as he pampered Nidhi. He was undoubtedly most doting father and husband! Nidhi and Nishi had been literally an apple of everyone's eyes, and particularly Ashu's. And like her Nishi luved adventures too and thy had went on many adventurous trips aftr thr first Australian honeymoon adventure. Tho thy cudnt go on a proper romantic honeymoon owing to different reasons and responsibilities. Bt becoming a mom of 2 kids in itself was a huge adventure with Nishi and thr son Ashit had quite a few complications early on and had barely kept his normal weight. And around his pregnancy, thy had also lost his baba, who had been faintly hanging on to his life after Nishi was born. And one by one thy had lost those elderly blessing hands on thm thru thr voyage of life together. First, dadi bua, thn Solanki uncle, and thn lastly her baba had succumbed to death after bravely fighting attacks for almost over two decades. And thn thr wer lots of ups and downs in her career, in thr life, with thr kids' career and weddings bt thy learned to breathe with a new hope at each hardship and learned to stand by each other in times of thr grief. Thr dream of a big family cudnt fulfilled due to many practical reasons bt Ashu had always started tht daycare to help those doctor moms at KGH and other nearby hospitals and clinics, who face similar problems as Nidhi and was content with the fact the had two wonderful kids with Nidhi and a whole orphanage under his care. He had become a trustee of tht orphanage and thr wernt jst those two students in his care, thr was this whole orphanage who he cud pay his debt! And over the time, Ashutosh had learnt to hope to overcome those grief-stricken moments and learnt to live those happy moments to fullest wenever thy came. He had learnt tht change is inevitable and tht thr is no option bt to move forward in life, come wat may, bt every day he remembered wat Nidhi had written on tht poster..
And wen I luk up above the heaven, let me pray each day till the last breath of my life..

And he sincerely prayed everyday for tht. He didn't know if God was thr or not to listen to his prayers, bt he prayed, believing Nidhi wen she prayed every day wen she lit diya in tht temple of thr house, tht come wat may happen let not him b not by Nidhi's side. And he had confessed this to her today. Nidhi sighed as she closed the last page of tht volume of photoalbum.
Ashutosh moaned and she went by his side and gently caressed his hair. He opened up his weak eyes and smiled. Those wrinkles of 90 years on his face hadn't dampened the handsomeness of his smile. Her hand went on his jaw and he held onto her thin wrinkled wrist tht still adorned tht kangan tht he had gifted her. Thr eyes met and relayed without a word tht this ageing had least affected thr luv for each other. Thr eyes tho weakned in eyesight still blazed with same intensity of luv thru those glasses as thy always had been. Thr kids had been well settled in thr own life and thy had pretty much lived thr life to thr content, fighting all odds and enjoying and living each day and most importantly breathing.
"I have yet another confession.. granny.." his weak frail voice said to her. Nidhi urged him silently. "I tried my sweetheart.. I tried to remain fit and healthy.. I tried to remain here for u as long as I can.. u know wat ur baba always feared..abt our r'ship rite from the beginning.." Nidhi nodded a no. "he never confessed it to u.. bt a doting concerned father cudnt help voicing his fears to me sweetheart.. he feared wat if I wudnt b able to walk with u all the way thru this long journey of life.. u know wat happened to ur cousin Mandira.. thr was 20 yrs of age difference betn thm as well'and..and.. u know she committed suicide after her husband out of tht lonliness and depression and tht void tht her husband had left behind.'and..and papa became so worried for u.. he knew u wer not Mandira bt he was a father and he had fears.. thr was an equal age difference betn us sweetheart.. his fears wer not baseless.. after all thr ws enuf statstical data to prove tht.." Nidhi cudnt help chuckle,"yeah.. THE statistical data.." He smiled.."yeah.. u know!" Nidhi bent and kissed his wrinkled cheeks,"so don't tell me tht u promised my baba and hence u disciplined urself all the life with strict dieting and exercising jst for tht!"she cudnt help cry. ,"u know me..sweetheart!"he cried. Nidhi frowned cutely. He sighed,"bt I guess its time..sweetheart..its" Nidhi's hand went over his lips before he cud complete the sentence,"don't u ever say tht!" she cried. "wat? u r going to fight with God!" "yes.. if need b.. I can fight with Him as well!" "u know u shudnt b so ungrateful for all tht kindness he has blessed us with!" "oh! bt he knows me.. he knows I cannot live without u.. he has to!"she cried and Ashutosh cudnt help chuckle,"come.." he said and stretched his hand. She put her hand in his and laid her head on his faintly beating chest. "Sweetheart.. r u happy with the life u lived with me?" Nidhi smiled and picked up the last volume of her set of photoalbums. She pointed at the other volumes,"see the heap of those memories?"she said. He smiled. "I cudnt have gathered more" she said and opened the last page of the volume in her hand. "Thanks my luv for this wonderful adventure called life tht I have lived with you.." was scribbled finely in Nidhi's handwriting. He smiled and gathered her for a hug. Nidhi slid the volume aside and thy lay silently in each other's arms, with her gray haired head resting on his chest. His eyes strayed over those awards and certificates tht thy had gathered over the time and thn on those big frames of picture hanging on the wall of thr kids and grand kids and thr whole extendend family. Thy wer all out thr, jst outside thr room, bt this moment was his and Nidhi's, of jst two of thm. He smiled satisfyingly at the pictures as he closed his eyes and squeezed his Nidhi onto him.
Ashutosh entwined his fingers securely in hers, she responded with tight squeeze and thy glanced back at two bodies tht lay on the bed lifelessly. In tht world, thy wer called Ashutosh and Nidhi! Ashutosh sighed and thy turned as thy walked towards tht ray of bright light tht called thm'"Do u think we wud meet God?" he asked. "I don't know.. if v wud, I wud ask for u.. and nothing else.. no heaven.. no hell.. no blissful paradise'" He smiled,"u think God wud agree.. ?" "v can always hope!" she smiled brightly. "u think thr is something called saat jaanam together as is inscribed in our hindu txts?"she asked. Ashutosh chuckled,"I don't know.. y?" "if so let this b our first jaanam together.. on our last one, I will ask Him to start the cycle again!" Ashutosh laughed as thy started to disappear in the bright light! "wat? R u planning to bribe God for tht!" "oh.. one can always try!" she said!
