Chapter Ten – The Apology

I let a week pass. I sulked in my room as I had done initially after she had left me.

Knowing she was really gone definitely managed to kill me on the inside.

For some odd reason, I had some hope alive within me that she'd come back…but now she was gone…ashes within the sea.

I hadn't met Madhuri in the time I had accidently kissed her and hugged her.

I didn't know how to face her…I didn't know how to answer her…

I hadn't even cleared Bittuji's thoughts on Madhu's look-a-like. Whenever he would walk into my room, he'd give me a look that showed he was worried…but he never asked for answers.

That's why I like Bittuji. He knows when to talk and when to stay quiet…

In the time after Madhu's cremation, I felt as though I had lost all ability to feel any sort of emotion. I felt nothing.

I knew my heart was dead.

I was just a body with no soul.

No feelings.

Nothing…

I heard a knock at my door.

"Come in."

I watched as Bittuji walked in, he closed the door behind him.

"Chief…I need to ask you something."

"Go ahead."

"Madhuri…"

I closed my eyes as he finally brought up what I had been avoiding.

I didn't say a word. He got the point but he still continued.

"Why does she look like bhabiji…"

I turned my back towards him. Though I thought I had lost all ability to feel any emotion, I hadn't lost the ability to feel sorrow.

I closed my eyes as I tried to push away the memories of Madhu that were rushing into my mind.

As I kept silent for a minute, so did Bittuji. I decided to answer him with the truth.

"She's not my Madhu, so it doesn't matter."

"Yeah but…"

"Please go Bittuji."

I heard as he sighed and walked out of my room.

With him mentioning Madhuri, I remembered back to the day of Madhu's cremation.

I thought about her for a second and then decided to rush out of my room.

I got to my car before anyone at home could stop me.

I started my car and headed to Manvir Sharma's place for the first time. I figured since he was her father…she'd be there.

I reached the gate to their house. As the guard recognized me, he opened the gate.

I quickly parked my car and rushed towards the door.

I rang the bell and waited a minute.

Then the door began to open.

It was the maid. I watched as her eyes slightly widened on seeing me there for the first time.

"Come in! Please do!"

She seemed cheery. I didn't like it.

"Madhuri."

"She's in her room, I can call…"

"No, take me to her room. I need to talk to her."

"Yes sir."

"Wait. Who else is at home?"

"Raj is asleep in his room, Manvir and Neha are out right now sir."

"Take me to Madhuri."

What a maid…I remember thinking to myself. She answered all my questions without hesitating. I hoped that my maids weren't like that. But then I remembered that I was RK…the superstar…of course she told me everything. She didn't find me to be a threat.

I followed her to Madhuri's room.

Their house was quite big. Not as big as mine, but big.

As I reached a huge double door, the maid turned to stare at me.

"This is Madhuri ma'am's room."

"Thank you."

The maid turned to leave as she watched me. I waited for her to be out of sight before I knocked on Madhuri's room.

"Coming!"

I closed my eyes as her familiar voice caused an odd pain within me.

As I opened my eyes, I saw her door slowly opening.

As I saw her face, I saw her smile disappear.

She seemed shocked…and scared…after she saw me standing in front of her.

She looked over my shoulder, almost as if she was about to scream for help but then realized she was alone.

She tried to close her door on me but I, clearly being stronger than her, managed to keep the door open.

Her eyes began to get watery as I saw fear growing in them.

"Madhu."

She looked up at me and stopped struggling with the door.

"I'm sorry."

She continued to stare at me as she listened to me apologize.

"I never say sorry. I need to talk to you."

She stared into my eyes for a moment. As though she were trying to make sure that I wasn't going to hurt her again.

I could feel nothing, blankness, emptiness in my eyes. I knew she saw that too.

She sighed and turned around to walk towards the middle of her room.

She kept her door open, inviting me in.

I walked in but had to close the door behind me. I couldn't have anyone else listening.

As she heard her door close, she turned to face me.

"Just because I don't want the maids to overhear."

She nodded her head, as she understood why I closed the door.

"Madhu, I'm sorry."

"For?"

She spoke to me for the first time since that day.

"For that day…I just…"

"RK…"

I shot my eyes towards her as she interrupted me.

She smiled...that definitely managed to surprise me.

I stared at her, waiting for her to continue.

"First, your wife's name was Madhu right?"

"Yes."

"Okay! Well, I admit, I was angry. Really angry. So angry that I told myself I was no longer a fan of yours. So angry that I wished to never see you again. So angr…"

"I understand."

"Oh, okay good. Anyways, after you gave me a few days to think about it, I realized it wasn't your fault. You had just lost your wife and I understand that you probably thought I was her. It makes sense. I don't blame you."

I stared at her, still confused.

I gestured towards the door.

"Then what was all that about?"

She laughed.

"I was being filmy, acting you know! Just like you do on screen! I'm going to become just like you someday RK."

"Don't wish for that. You don't want to be me."

"I do! I really do!"

"No you don't."

"Y…"

"I SAID NO."

She stepped back as I startled her with my loud voice.

I stared at her scared face and then sighed.

"Sorry."

She slowly, but fearfully nodded her head that it was okay.

"I just haven't been in the best mood lately."

"I understand RK."

"I should go."

"N…"

I looked up at her as she stopped herself from continuing.

"What?"

"Nothing! Byee RK!"

"Why are you so smiley?"

"Can't I smile RK?"

I was suddenly hit with the flashback of the day Madhu has asked me "Why are you smiling at me so much?" and I had replied with "Can't I smile biwi?"

I felt the pain coming back. The pain that had temporarily disappeared.

I couldn't look at her any longer. Having someone who resembled Madhu 100% around was not easy.

I needed to leave.

I quickly turned and walked out of her room. I heard her running behind me.

"WAIT!"

I was running down the stairs when she called my name.

"RK?"

I stopped in my steps halfway down and looked up at her.

"Bye Madhuri."

And with that, I ran out of her house.

I felt RK pain through your words.Hope Madhuri will find out the truth about Madhu and can bring RK out of his pain, Loss and back to his Real Old Self. 😉 😊
