Chapter 14

Yash heard the buzz of his mobile which was placed on the bed side table. He switched on the bed-side lamp to answer to the call. It was from the PI Ramesh. Upon hearing that Pankaj was being blackmailed Yash wasted no time in contacting his trusted PI a thing which Pankaj should have done on his own but as he was too involved and emotional, to think rationally about it, Yash did it for him.

"Hello..yes Ramesh..tell me?" said Yash over the mobile.

"She is not at home...We have been following her for sometime.. She goes out for nightly parties and often returns late.. so this is our chance...I am already near her house ... if you could make it too...we can search her safe and get that CD" came the PI's answer.

"Thanks..I know you do not need me with you, but I appreciate you involving me in this. But what if she has made copies of it?" questioned a cautious Yash.

"Then I do not think she would keep it in the safe as she had said when she had threatened and I do not think she is all that smart at doing this...she is making far to many mistakes" countered Ramesh.

"Thank GOD for that... I do not want Pankaj bhaiya to suffer anymore because of this. Just give me some time I'll be right there" Yash concluded the call.

As Yash got off the bed he glanced to have a look at Aarti who was sleeping peacefully. But the blanket covering her body had slipped and it was revealing more than it was covering. Her saree had hitched up high, almost revealing her thighs. Yash's eyes slowly journeyed from her toes right up to where her saree ended and then he journeyed the route down back again. He could not believe that he was letting her get to him yet again. Why did his self-control vanish when she was around...he berated himself.

Not now Yash. You have to rush...urgent things to take care of. Yet he went to the other side and stood staring for some more time. Then his hands started to move of their own accord towards her legs. He longed to touch her, move his hands over the exposed flesh...wrap those unending legs of hers about himself and bury himself in her, but he stopped. Held himself back and pulled her saree down and put the blanket back on properly. Giving her one last look of yearning he turned away.

Yash got ready and went to the garage as noiselessly as possible so as not to let anyone in the household wake up. He placed the key in the ignition just to find Aarti opening the side-door and sit inside the car besides him quickly.

"Aartiji... what do you think you are doing?" Yash asked shocked.

"I am coming with you" she said resolutely not looking at him.

"I am not taking you anywhere right now. So please do not argue and waste my time. Just do as i say and get down" commanded Yash authoritatively.

Aarti did not answer just remained seated.

"Aartiji.. I have no time for this" Yash said getting irritated.

"Yashji...I heard your phone conversation...you are going to that woman's house is it not? I have to come with you... I just can't let you go there alone. Let's not waste time... drive Yashji. Just drive. If you want i will sit inside the car itself" bargained Aarti.

Yash was not listening to what she was saying. He had stopped when she said that she had listened to the phone call, as it meant she was pretending to be sleeping later when he had gone close to her.

OH MY GOD...what must she be thinking about me. Voyeur or something much worse. Dear GOD...save me from the embarrassment.

"Yashji...please" said Aarti urging him to start the car and drive when he did not react earlier.

Once they were on their way Aarti reflected back on what happened tonight in their bedroom after the call. She had lain pretending to be asleep so that Yash would not stop her from coming with him then and there. But to her shock and much surprise Yash had wandered over to her side and done something she would never have expected to in a thousand years.

I think i died when he got his hand near me. I don't know how i stopped myself from reacting. I thought he wanted to touch me...wanted to ...Oh maybe i just imagined the look in his eyes. I was so utterly disappointed when he pulled the saree down and adjusted the blanket back in its place. So much for my wishful thinking.

They reached an independent house which was reasonably secluded. Yash parked next to another car where a man was waiting for them. Before getting down Yash asked Aarti to stay put till he finished this whole business. Though Yash somehow knew there was a fat chance of that happening.

As Ramesh and Yash made their way towards the house Aarti started growing restless. It was extremely quiet around her and she was growing scared too. Just then she saw a flash of light from an approaching car and it made her jump out of the car and run towards the house. She thought that the woman was returning to her home and so she panicked. As she dashed inside she turned back to see the car passing the house by and racing away.

Phew!!! False alarm. But it scared the living day lights out of me. Hmm..now what do i do? Should i go back to the car? Naah!! Yashji might need an additional pair of hands. She defended her decision to enter the house and carried on.

As she opened the door through which she had earlier seen them break-in and enter she was suddenly pulled inside with a great force and was pinned against the wall with an arm pressing against her neck.

"AAAHHH!! " Aarti tried to shriek but the hand on her neck prevented the scream and only a muted screech came out.

"Aartiji !!! Dear Lord !! Why did you get off the car? Can't you follow a simple instruction?" asked Yash loosening his hold on Aarti.

"S...ss...sorry" coughed Aarti.

"Never mind. Now come and help me find a safe. Ramesh is looking for it upstairs" spoke Yash in hushed voice.

Aarti showed thumbs up and started looking around for anything that could be called as a safe. In the hall, behind the sofas, behind the entertainment cabinet, anywhere,everywhere. But they could not find a thing.

They then started looking for it in the solo bedroom located in the ground floor. From under the pillows Aarti got a key bunch...but without finding out the safe the key-bunch was of no use. Just then they heard a loud crash. Yash immediately took hold of Aarti and hid between the cupboard and the wall with Aarti facing him and glued to his body.

"MEOW" they heard the cat cry out loud.

Both Yash and Aarti drew a sigh of relief. But they slowly realized the awkward position they were in. Toe to toe, chest to chest pressed together and both reacted to it together. They tried to get away immediately but then butted their head against each other as they moved in the same direction. That's when their eyes clashed and held. Yash then took his hands down and held her at her waist and lifted her and placed her out of the restricted space then he came out of it himself and while doing so he accidentally pressed a switch on the wall and suddenly a painting which hung on the opposite wall moved and revealed a safe it was hiding. Yash and Aarti looked at one another and then at the safe.

Yash took the keys and tried to open the safe. With all of them failing it was just the last key remaining that they had to try. Yash prayed that it would be the actual one and when he heard the click sound of it opening he felt relieved. Inside there was some cash and a stash of CDs..Yash grabbed all the CDs and closed the safe shut.

Both he and Aarti returned to the hall and were about to call Ramesh when the lights of the house were switched on.

"Hold it right there? Who are you and what are you doing in my house?" came a shrill voice from a woman who just came inside through the door. She saw the CDs in Yash's hands and understood everything.

"Give those CDs back to me or else... I will shoot you. I mean it" she said with a murderous glare.
