Hey all...I am here with Part 35... The delay was due to my wretched sickness, for which I am not gonna apologize anymore as I had done plenty of that to my Ma, who by the way thinks all of my frequent illness is due to my constant pining for a certain show... & I think she's right... I mean before, whatever it was, a couple of dreamy Rabba Veys & I would be good as new! I really miss the show bad, like really bad now-a-days...

So this update is for the show & for the Sami...Yes, the Sami, the date which is just at the corner is for you, & so is the update before that!

Part 34

Part 35

Khushi had given in to her first impulse. After all the courage she had shown in going & clearly laying out her standing before Arnav, the moment he had opened that sinuous mouth of his & asked her out on a date, she had ran off from his room as if her life had depended on it. & had stopped only when gate security Badri had stopped her to tell her that, Chhote Sir had called & asked him to detain Khushi didi & Mohan was coming up front with the car to drop her off to Nikunja. & when Khushi had tried to dissuade Badri, Badri had informed him with an anxious expression that, Chhote sir had predicted she'd try to run away, & Badri was to call him in that case, so that hehimself could come down & drive Khushi to Nikunja, otherwise, Badri was not to show his face around Shantivan ever again.

So, Khushi had waited in the security hub, slightly irritated at his high-handedness & as soon as she had settled into the thankfully dry & warm interior of the car brought around by Mohan, she started complaining about the Laad Governor to Devi Maiyya! There she had been, feeling so confident & good about herself that, she had finally started regaining some sort of control over her life & was not letting her fear dictate her choices anymore. & boom, he bowled a googly. A date?! He just had to have an upper-hand, didn't he? "Oh she is taking a metaphorical plunge? Then I'll just go ahead & sky-dive! Metaphorically!" she had muttered under her breath, & had immediately bit her tongue as Mohan had politely asked her if she had said something to him.

Now as she watched the door of her home slowly swinging open, in answer to her ringing the calling bell, to reveal her father's anxious face, she pushed all thoughts of Arnav out of her mind & plastered a beaming smile on her face as she heard Shashi's concerned voice, "Bitiya, I have so worried about you! You said you'd be back in a jiffy & ran off like that... & then this pouring rain started... & now you're all soaked!" Shashi agitatedly rubbed his right hand over the top of Khushi's damp head, trying to dry off some of the surface moisture.

Khushi closed her eyes briefly & muttered under her breath, 'Go, Khushi!' & then she got hold of his hand & held it between her own as she dragged him back into the warm living room, as she started her cheerful ramble, "Little did I know na Babuji, that Devi Maiyya cared so less about me, that she wouldn't even deter Indraji when he'd send off those huge clouds to pour down over me just when I'd set out to scour the area a bit! I thought she had my back, like always! But..." she pushed her father down on the sofa, & dramatically swiped her hand over her full form as if to show, 'see what Devi Maiyya didn't save me from!'.

Then she snapped the fingers of her right hand, while her left hand went to rest on her hips as she exclaimed, "Shall I make tea for both of us? With ginger? &-" Shashi cut her off by holding both his hands up & said in a voice laced with both surprise & concern, "No! First get into dry clothes, Bitiya? & where have you gone? & you're... You're almostyou again!" & the wonder filled relief in his voice moved Khushi. Without another word, she flopped down beside him & wrapped her arms around his middle, resting her cheek on his shoulder.

Shashi gently patted her head, & asked, "Why didn't you go with the others? Are you still upset over-?" he stopped, unable to continue in that direction. Khushi let out a sigh, & said in a little voice, "I try not to be upset, Babuji. & I swear, I am almost there!" then she suddenly tilted her head up to look at him with vulnerable eyes, "Babuji, it's not true what they say, right? That blood is thicker than water! It doesn't mean anything right?" Shashi shook his head as he too looked all too vulnerable all of a sudden, "Bitiya! That's..." he looked to be fumbling for a moment for the appropriate words, then he said in a rush, "It's not upto us, who is born in whose home, who is whose family... even whose destiny is linked with whom... None of its upto us. But some things are upto us. Like the people we love & let into our lives. Some as friends, some as family, some as more than family... You were but a child, but your Amma & I weren't. & we chose you, because we loved you! You're the special one, because you're not here by chance! You're here because we wanted you! We loved you!... & the love that we feel for you, that is between us all... The love, with which you bind this whole family together, is thicker than blood & everything!" & as sudden tears well up out of Khushi's big eyes, Shashi cupped her face in both his hands, & brush the tears away with his thumb, "Our Khushi Bitiya never cries! Now go & change into dry clothes, otherwise you'd be sneezing in half-an hour & your Amma would accuse me of not properly looking after her Chhutki while she was away. Go!" & he patted her shoulder to urge her away towards the stairwell leading to the upper floor. Khushi nodded, trying to swallow the painful lump in her throat down as she stood up, & then she moved away from her father towards the stairwell, but not before she saw the moistness glistening in his eyes too.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Khushi was drying her hair with her big, fluffy tweety-bird towel, sitting cross-legged on the edge of her bed, thinking about her Amma-Babuji, when she heard her phone chime signaling the arrival of a text. She dumped the towel on her side & grabbed the phone to check the text, & the next instant, she nearly dropped the phone as if it was a ball of red-hot steel as she saw the name of the sender: 'Laad Governor'. Her lips twitched with glee, as she remembered how she had ranted off the whole way to the farmhouse for Arnav's cocktail party all those weeks ago, about how her whole family was marching off there like Arnav was some kind of Laad Governor & they were his disciples. But as soon as she read the text, her smile faltered as she gasped loudly, 'What time shall we meet for the date?'
It was all Khushi could do to just to stare at the screen for several long seconds before she could actually comprehend what was written there. & then she felt it. That tingly, bristling feeling. The feeling of outrageous indignation, that was so like herself, that she only felt as a reaction to his actions, & which she hadn't felt in so long that she had almost forgotten how alive it made her feel. Khushi brushed her thumb over the place of the screen where Laad Governor was flashing as she felt a curious warmth spreading through her. & then she read the text beneath it again & felt the tingly, bristly indignation return, & her nimble fingers started flowing over the keypad in rapid succession.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Arnav was sure, date or no date, what he was surely gonna have tomorrow was the flu. Cause after he had phoned his instructions to security, ensuring Khushi reached her home safely, which was two minutes distance by the car, he had gone back to the poolside & stood under the pelting jets of rain once again. Apparently, he had just found out today that, while thinking, the rain waters kept his head marginally cooler, so that his decisions or his words didn't end up turning out as disastrous as they usually did. His date with Khushi being the standard example of that!

Arnav had gone inside half-an-hour later to impulsively take his phone in his hand & text Khushi, feeling the need to reach out to her somehow. & her prompt reply had come only few minutes later, which read: I haven't exactly said yes yet'

& as Arnav read the text, he was reminded of exactly why he had asked her out on a date. In the seconds that he had took to ask her out on a date after she asked him whether he'd take 'just her, no strings attached', he had had a torrent of thoughts passing through his mind. His first reaction had been 'Duh!'. He had actually consciously stopped himself from saying that out loud, because he knew how much of a provocation that would have been for Khushi to push him into the pool behind him. Did he want her? The answer was, he only wanted her more than his next breath of life-saving air!

& his immediate next reaction had been an alarming panic. Not at the prospect of deeper tides than he had ever delved before in his life. But this girl had severed all contacts with him as she wanted commitments that he could never give! So there was a possibility that, she might be saying all this out of her vulnerability & her confused state after all that had come to her knowledge recently. & his mind, the sane & intelligent part of him, had told him to send her back & pursue the subject at a later time when she might actually be held responsible for what she said & did. But his mind had long back lost the battle to his other inferior organ, the heart, when it came to that tiny little gorgeous nuisance.

& his heart had refused, point blank, to let her go. & Arnav had to concede, he was with his heart at this. There was something about her... something so maddeningly addictive, that Arnav just couldn't bear the thought of letting her go. Even if it meant taking advantage of her vulnerable state of mind, but once that she had voluntarily come to him, Arnav was damned if he was letting her go of his own accord. No, this was an addiction he didn't want to wean himself off any time soon.

But at the same time he had also known, how crucial his reaction to her question was gonna be at a later time, when she'd have the time to think. Today she might have convinced herself, she didn't need the guarantee of a commitment anymore, but he didn't want her to loose her self-respect in the future because of their association. She deserved a swell guy, who would respect her, treat her with care, like the princess she was at her heart. & she deserved to have a date, to mark the initiation of their relationship. She deserved it all! & Arnav had decided there & then, looking at her soaked & vulnerable features, she would have to compromise on the guy, settle for his lesser self, as he wasn't ready to let go of her even for her own good, but she would get everything else she deserved!

So in all honesty, there was only one answer to her standoffish text, & Arnav typed it on with forceful stab on the keypad of his iPhone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Khushi had been waiting with baited breath for him to reply, & he definitely took his time. Khushi was about to throw her phone off over the bed in her frustration when it chimed & Khushi opened the text even before the tone chimed out... & then she gasped loudly at the audacious text: No isn't an option here.
Khushi breathed rapidly in short spurts as she semi-angrily stabbed out the next text, not even thinking before typing now, almost like her true self: High-handedness & a date?! My favorite combo! This is just how I envisioned being asked out for the first time!
This time Arnav took so long to text her back that Khushi was just on the process of calling him up & telling him to improve his texting word-per-minute skills & hurry up, so she didn't have to wait for the whole of her early twenties for his reply, when her phone came alive, & Khushi held her breath as she read on: First time?! I have seen enough of the Delhi boys around you to know that can't be entirely true!
Khushi took a sharp intake of breath indignantly. Can't be true? What did he think? That she was lying? She pursed her lips & typed with a vengeance:
It's the first time I was contemplating saying yes!
PS: Emphasis on the past tense!
This time Arnav took so long to reply that Khushi left her phone on the bed, went to the adjoining small veranda of her room to hang her damp towel to dry, & was combing her hair to blow dry it, when she finally heard her phone chime to signal a received text. Khushi immediately started to jump towards it, then steadied herself, & went deliberately slowly to pick up the phone & read the text: Khushi, will you please do me the honor of going out on a date with me?
She stared at the screen for a long moment, & then she suddenly remembered what Babuji had told her today some time ago.
...some things are upto us. Like the people we love & let into our lives...
Khushi typed with trembling fingers: Ji. She read what she had written thrice to be sure she meant it... & then she hit 'send'.
Arnav's reply this time came swiftly, almost immediately & it was a surprisingly lengthy one, one that Khushi read almost 500 times within only the next morning itself:
Will talk details later. Business awaits.
PS: Now that we're going on a date, you've gotta stop running off every time I kiss you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Precap:

"Why didn't you call me the whole day today? Are you having second thoughts? You can't just cancel the date on your own, if that's what you're gonna do! You can't just brush Khushi Kumari Gupta off that easily, samjhe aap?"

Arnav just couldn't help the grin that spread though his face at her angry outburst, & he was damn happy that no one was there to see this alien sight. He said in a carefully passive voice, "Ok, understood. When are you free then?" There was a pause, then her answer came, "Jaiye, now that you're apologizing so much, I'll-"

Arnav had never sounded so indignant even to himself as he half-shouted, "'Excuse me? I wasn't-" But Khushi cut him impatiently, as she rushed on, "Don't cut me off mid sentence. Listen attentively now, I thought a lot-" Arnav cut in again, now semi-irritated, "Oh! That's why you were gone all day? Thinking must be such a time-consuming process for you with that non-existent brain of yours!" He heard her gasp loudly, & then spluttering into speech, "Did you just call me stupid? What- What- Who do you think you are, dimmaag ka baashah?!"

Arnav couldn't help but snap at that, "I might be, cause at least I have more brains than you do, don't I? Now don't waste my time & come to the point!" Khushi gasped more dramatically this time & screeched loudly, "Wasting time-? As if I am the one who made this call?" & then she heard Buaji calling her from outside her room, wanting to know who she was shouting at so late in the night.

Arnav knows Khushi so well. He knew she will run away. He knew she will object. He knew that only the threat that he will drop her will make her do as he wished. But Arnav cares for her. He didn't want her to do another relay in the rain.

Today Khushi has plastered a smile on her face, tomorrow she will smile naturally with her family again. Coz her family will not treat her differently and love her as before. Will appreciate if she does right and scold her if she does wrong. And Shashi's words only proved the point. With their other kids they didn't have an option, whether to love or not. They loved Khushi of freewill.

Or wait, she had to plaster a smile on her face coz of all the thoughts related to Arnav. If that was the case then Khushi better practice the act as Arnav and Khushi have a long way to go.

But it is good to see a pagal Khushi.

Ok the entire msg-msg bit was so real.

Lovers actually do that. Impatient to receive a response and making the other impatient while replying. 😆

The cutuest was when Khushi deliberately walks slow to make Arnav wait coz she knows he is waiting. But I know Arnav was glued to his phone too. His responses show the careful balance he was trying to maintain between eagerness and deliberation. 😊

Can I just have your Arnav.? He wants her and wants her bad, but he doesn't want her to take hasty decisions in her current state and regret. But he can't let go off her either. He choses the middle ground. Bitwa smart hain. 😉

PS: The last sms... I can read it 500 times 😳
