Part 38
Arohi kept looking at Arjun every two seconds. She was having a very difficult time keeping her patience and not asking him where he was taking her. She looked ahead at the road, and turned her head again to look at her husband. She so wished that he would look in her direction for just one moment so that she could push him to spill the beans. But Arjun was driving peacefully, with one hand on the steering wheel and another holding Arohis hand. His thumb caressed her soft skin very slowly, tickling her and arousing warm feelings in her heart. All this and the mystery was making her unusually restless now.
Arjun had looked at her once, just once, when he had picked her up at the gate. His appreciative scrutiny of her saree clad form had told her how good she looked. Not good. Stunning.
She had wanted to please Arjun, hoping that he would tell her the actual destination before he took her there. But Arjun had kept mum throughout the drive. Arohi tried to relax and enjoy this time with him but her mind wouldn't let her. She tried exhaling loudly, with extra force and noise, to make Arjun look at her and atleast ask her something. But Arjun Singhania was smart. And noone knew Mrs Arohi Singhania more than her husband. He continously avoided all her tactics and smiled at himself whenever she tried to grab his attention.
When the car turned to enter the gates of the hospital, Arohis head snapped in Arjuns direction in shock. Tears filled her eyes as she realised that Arjun had got her to meet Daddu.
Arohi just looked on, observing Arjun park the car, get out of his seat, and walk around to her door. He opened her door and extended his hand, asking her to take it. Arohi still looked at Arjun as her hand involuntarily placed itself in his hand. Arjun dragged her out, locked the car and started walking towards the entrance, taking Arohi along.
Arohi had wanted to come and meet daddu for a while now. The thought had crossed her mind a million times, but things had been very eventful ever since she had entered the Singhania Mansion. Arjuns thoughtfulness touched her heart, she couldn't tear her eyes off him. He was everything she had wished for in a husband… and so much more. Suddenly Arohi felt humbled, to have a husband, a life partner like Arjun.
Arjun looked ahead and kept walking towards the room in which DIG Ahluwalia was resting. Reaching the door of the room, Arjun left her hand and looked at her. He could see mixed emotions on Arohis face. Gratitude, love, happiness, respect, appreciation, adoration, relief and elation fleeted on her face at super sonic speed. But the emotion that stayed was… fascination. Arjun had wanted to surprise his wife and he felt happy to see that he had done that. However, this was just one part of the surprise. He hoped that she liked the second part too.
Arjun smiled and tilted his head, indicating her to go ahead and enter. Arohi returned his smile, and breathing deeply, she pushed open the door.

"Mom no 2… aap concentrate nahi karrahe ho!"
Rashi snapped out of her trance to see Raj standing with his hands on his waist and a pout on his cute face. His eyebrows were scrunched up as he looked at Rashi and then the ring that she held in her hand. Rashis eyes followed Raj's and she realised that she had been standing holding this ring for quite sometime now. When Raj had seen the ring throwing game in the mall, he had been excited and asked Dadi and his mom to win the toy gun that was kept in the stands. Since Dadis eyesight was not so great now, she backed out and Rashi had volunteered to win it for him. All she had to do was make sure when she throws the ring, it falls on the box with the gun. Rashi had taken aim and was about to throw the ring when the gun caught her attention and she was lost in her thoughts.
"Moommm…" Raj whined again.
"Sorry Raj. Dekhna ye gun mein tumhe dilaake rahungi."
An hour later, Raj was happily eating his ice cream, his newly won gift kept next to him. Rashi smiled at him seeing his possessiveness for the toy. Dadi had tried asking her why was she looking so lost today and if anything was troubling her. But Rashi managed to give her a satisfactory answer about some work related stress. Rashi brought the cone to her lips and licked the ice cream and let the memories lick her mind.
FLASHBACK
Rashi fidgeted with the napkin on the table. She had reached extra early in the restaurant today and was waiting for Rajveer. Her mind was still debating whether she should tell this to him or not. What if he decides to take Arohi back to his house? What if he blames Arjun for it and fights with him? Or worse… what if he blames HER for it as she was responsible for the arrangements???!! Why did she ever plan to have those chandeliers!!! Rashi closed her eyes and opened them after a brief second. She looked around for some distraction to get her mind off the turmoil.
And her distraction arrived.
Earlier whenever they had met, Rajveer had been in his uniform. But today, since he was on an undercover mission, he was dressed in casuals. Rashi took in the white-blue checkered shirt, leather belt and blue denims ending on long legs in boots. The gun was safely placed in his shoulder holster, giving him a almost-dangerous look. The ray bans on his eyes added to the mystery and his jacket was casually thrown against his back, held in his fingers on his one shoulder, making him look almost like a cowboy. Rajveer maynot be in a uniform today but his walk, his attitude, and his style, everything spoke of authority.
Rashis breath was caught in her chest as she saw him smile slightly when he noticed her and approached the table. Pulling back the chair, Rajveer sat down. He discarded his sunglasses, placed the jacket on the back of the adjecent chair and removed his gun from the holster and kept it on the table. Rashi stared at the silver gun, its body glinting in the afternoon sunlight.
"Kya hua Rashi?" Rajveer was confused seeing her skeptical expressions. He had never seen her so flustered before. She was the calm and peaceful one between the both of them. But right now it looked like their roles had been reversed. He frowned seeing her hand fidgeting the napkin on the table and covered her hand with his.
Rashis eyes snapped to Rajveers. She relaxed seeing his calm face. Rajveer gripped her hand tighter and leaned ahead in his chair.
"Tell me Rashi… Whats bothering you?"
FLASHBACK ENDS
Rashi smiled eating her ice cream slowly. She brought her other hand up and looked at it. Her smile widened looking at the invisible fingerprints, which belonged to a certain cowboy, that were still burning on her skin.

Arohi was totally confused now. She looked at Arjun who was driving peacefully… again. He had not accompanied her inside the hospital room to see Daddu, instead he preferred to wait outside for her. Arohi had been so happy to see her grandfather look healthy, if only he would open his eyes and say her name now. She had hugged her mother, who was inside the room and had inquired each and every detail about him. The doctors always gave the truth but they were extra hopeful in this case. Kartar Singh Ahluwalias strong heart and his zeal for life had been an inspiration to many in the hospital. Normally a person in coma can wake up in 2 days or even take 20 years. But they were positive that very soon her daddu will be awake. His reports and progress assured them to say so with confidence.
When she had stepped out of the room and shared everything with Arjun, he had smiled and listened to her patiently, allowing her to blabber away. Later, he had suggested, almost insisted, that they drop her mother home. Arohi was taken aback at the way he had not allowed his mom to even argue. Not that her mother had shown any indication of arguing. Probably her house was on the way to the restaurant, thinking so Arohi did not question him.
Arohi looked in the side view mirror to stare at her mother, who was sitting in the back seat, staring out of the window. She did not look confused or worried. Infact she looked… happy. Arohi scrunched her eyebrows and stared ahead. When the car pulled in the gates of Ahluwalia mansion, the three passengers got out. Arohi hugged her mom and bid her goodbye. But Arjun pulled her towards the entrance behind her mother. She looked on confused at Arjun, stopping outside the door.
"Kya hua?" Arjun asked her smiling. "Dinner nahi karna hai???"
Arohis eyes widened realising that Arjun had got her to her house for dinner. This was the second sweetest surprise her husband had given her today. Grinning widely at him she started pulling him inside. She felt like hugging and kissing him right now for whatever he did for her. But she was sure her family would not appreciate such PDA in their house. So she channelised her energy towards hugging her bua, pinching Sanchits cheeks and kissing her taiji. Arjuns chest constricted watch Arohi come back to her pagal form again.
"Arohi… I will pick you up after dinner. Call me when you're done." Arjun spoke still smiling but Arohis smile slipped. She had thought they both will be having dinner here. But the fact that Arjun was not totally welcome in her house had slipped her mind. And yet he had got her here knowing that meeting her family will make HER happy. She was mavelling at the selflessness of her husband when a recent memory pricked her mind.
"Im sorry ki mein tumhe yaha le aaya. Mujhe lagta tha ki tum sirf mere saath safe ho! Kitna bada bevkoof tha na mein…"
"I think mujhe tumhe wapas ghar bhej dena chahiye. Tum waha jyada safe…"
She rushed to Arjuns side immediately. "Nai… Mujhe bhook nahi hai. Mein bas sabse mil lu, fir hum saath mein ghar chalenge!" Arohi grabbed Arjuns arm, looking at him, forcing a smile. Arjun held her hands, worry flashing on his face.
"Arohi… its ok. I will come to pick you up. Promise. Jaise hi tumhara dinner khatam hota hai mujhe phone kar dena. I will be here in 10 minutes." He could see the fear in Arohis eyes of leaving him. Initially he had been worried that her family maynot let her to go back with him, but now that Arohi was with him he felt more confident about himself. Assuring her with his eyes, he left her hands moving towards the doors.
"Kyu… Singhanias ko bhook nahi lagti kya???"
Everyone turned around to see DJ stand behind them, her eyes trained on Arjun. Arjuns face blanked out, not knowing what to expect from the wife of the person, who was in coma and the guilt of which was weighing on his shoulders.
"Ab Arohi Singhania hai toh usse bhi bhook nahi hai. Aur tum… Mein jaanti hu ki aajtak jab bhi tum iss ghar mein aaye ho toh tumhe kuch na kuch khilaake bheja gaya hai. Aur hum Ahluwalias apni traditions nahi todte." Everyone looked confused at DJ, including Arjun who was trying to recollect when had that happened, and DJ continued. "Chahey voh taaney ho yaa maar, tumhe kuch khilaaye bagair kabhi jaane nahi diya hai humne. Aaj, for a change khana khila dete hai."
Arjun smiled as he saw DJ slowly laugh at her own joke. The atmosphere eased immediately and everyone gathered at the dining table to have dinner. The next hour and a half was a blur with everyone wanting to share their own memories of Arohis childhood with Arjun. Bowls filled with various dishes was passed around as the dining table turned into an animated war zone. All the Ahluwalias were fighting to get Arjuns attention, trying to feed him various dishes, pull his and Arohis leg in between conversations.
Sudhir Ahluwalia was out on a business dinner and Arvind and Rajveer were on a undercover mission. This allowed the dinner to be more casual and friendly. Arjun could not stop smiling listening to silly antics about his wife, or seeing her snaps where she was modelling as a 6 year old, or watch her fight and argue with everyone trying to defy every single detail told about her. He felt like he needed 6 pairs of eyes, so that he can give everyone equal attention, and one more mouth so that he can eat with one and talk with the other.
Meals at the Ahluwalias were definitely different than at his own house. He wished there was so much fun and chaos and bonding as a family during mealtime in the Singhania Mansion. But he came from a legacy where maintaining distance and being cold was considered a way of living. He could get used to this kind of dinners and should probably do this more often. Arjun was lost in his own thoughts when a sudden pain in his ears crashed him to the present.
"Oww Oww…" He yelled loudly as DJ held his ear and twisted hard.
"Teji bilkul thik kehti hai. Ek number ka jhalla hai tu!"
"Oww… mera kaan! Lekin maine kiya kya hai???"
"Kya kiya hai? Aaj kitne din hogaye tujhe Arohi ko ghar lejaake? Aur ab tak tu usse doctor ke paas nahi legaya, full check up ke liye??? Usse to ye bhi nahi pata ke kitne mahine huey hai pregnancy ko!!!"
"Kal le jaaunga pakka! I swear… please kaan chodiye… aaahhh!!!"
DJ left Arjuns ear and frowned at him. The entire table had gone silent watching this small exchange. Arjun rubbed his ear with his hand looking angrily at Arohi who burst out laughing. Everyone joined Arohi as they saw Arjun pout like a child and mumble something similar to 'no wonder aap dadi ki best friend hain'. Preeti Ahluwalias laughing face turned towards the entrance and it lit up more.
"Arre Rajveer… tum kab aaye?" The entire table turned around to watch Rajveer Ahluwalia stand at the main door, his hands fisted at his sides. The laughter immediately died down but the happiness in the atmosphere stayed. He walked in slowly, staring at Arohi, taking in the happy glow on her face, sitting next to her husband. Clearly they were all having a good time before he arrived. His gaze fell on Arjun and his eyes hardened.
"Ye meri guarantee hai. Arjun Singhania ki. Mere hote huey Arohi ko kuch nahi hoga. Maine pehle bhi Arohi ko sabse bacha ke rakha tha, aur aage bhi rakhunga."
Rajveer remembered Arjuns words and he marched towards the table.
Next update will be on friday... sorry to keep you guys guessing 😳
