Part 37
Caller- I have never seen any of your plans fail. Which means that this one was meant to???
Natasha laughed in the reciever. "Natasha ke plans kabhi fail nahi hote. So your guess is right. But I prefer to look at it in a different way."
Caller- What do you mean by different way? Noone got hurt, so logically the plan did fail.
"Well… If the plan was meant to hurt someone and it did not achieve it THEN yes, it failed. But mera plan kisiko chot pohachane ka nahi tha!"
Caller- Toh fir???
"Ye ek chetavani thi. A warning. Something to keep Arjun on his toes. And it worked out to be even better. Kyuki khatre mein Arohi aagayi, Arjun nahi."
Caller- Lekin mujhe aur maza aata agar kuch hojata toh!
"Apni apni soch hai! Mujhe to Arjun ke chehre ka darr dekhke hi mazaa aaya." Natashas low chuckle sounded very cold on the phone.
Caller- I think I've misjudged you. You're much more dangerous than I had imagined.
"I'm not cold. I just love games. Have you ever seen a cat hunt a mouse?"
Caller- Not really…
"You see… A cat chases the mouse all over the place and shes very eager to eat him. But the moment she has the mouse cornered, she doesn't leap on it. She plays with it. She nudges it from all sides and watches it desperately try to escape. The fear and helplessness of the mouse excites the cat. And when she gets bored of playing, she goes for the kill. Even I hunt like a cat. Mujhe bhi Arjun ka darr, usski tadap, usske helplessness mein bohat mazaa aata hai. And the day I get bored of this game, you'll see how Natashas plans DO NOT fail!"
Caller (hesitates)- Fine. Just make sure it is clean and looks like an accident.
"Don't worry about that. Nothing will be traced back to you or me."
Caller- Ok.
Natasha heard the soft click of the call being disconnected. She smiled slowly. Arjuns scared face popped up from her memory in her brain. The way he had seen the chadelier fall and dashed towards Arohi. As the chandelier had rapidily moved down, the speed at which Arjuns face had whitened. The desperation with which he had grabbed his beloved wife and hugged her. The relief on his face, which he had forced on himself, so that he stops panicking. This was all so much better than if it had been Arjun, who had found the letter and was standing under the chadelier. Throwing her phone on the sofa, Natasha waltzed towards the bar. Making herself a drink, she lifted the glass to noone, as she was alone in her house.
"That one was for insulting me in the office Arjun. Cheers!"

Arjun scrunched his nose and eyes, as the first rays of the sun streamed into his room from the window. He opened his eyes to look outside at the early morning chirping birds. He tried to turn but his left hand was weighed down by something. He looked to his side and smiled on seeing his lovely wife sleeping like a baby, using his hand as a pillow. Arjun turned towards her, adjusting the quilt on both of them, his eyes stuck to her face. She looked so soft, so innocent, so nave when she was sleeping. She also looked at peace.
Last night after they had shared their thoughts, they both had dozed off on the lounger in the garden. By dawn, it had become cold and Arohi had practically crawled under Arjuns skin to keep herself warm. Arjun had woken up eventually and carried her inside, in the warmth of their room. The moment Arjun placed her on the bed and pulled the quilt on her, her face had immediately relaxed. Arjun thought he could spend his entire life looking at her like this.
A small wisp of hair was floating on her cheek, tickling her and disturbing her sleep. Arjun raised his hand to tuck the hair behind her ear. When he retreated his hand, his eyes met Arohis.
Arohi had been awake for a while, and she could feel Arjuns gaze on her. She knew that he liked watching her and so did not want to wake up and break his trance. But the moment his warm fingers grazed her cheek, she opened her eyes. She wanted her husband to be the first sight that she sees this morning. She loved his early morning stubble, sleepy eyes and ruffled hair. He looked adorable and sexy, both at the same time. She shifted towards him and placed her head against his chest.
"Good morning…"
Arohis greeting was muffled as she turned her head to hide in his chest. Arjun responded by placing a soft kiss against her hair and hugging her back. How he wished he could stay forever like this. Arjun started stroking her hair with one hand, when his eyes fell on the saree that he had discarded off Arohi last night. The vision of her in the blouse when he had helped her and then Arohi dancing in the saree for him, flooded his mind and tingled his heart. He had planned on making slow, sweet love with his wife last night. In fact in the entire party, a part of his mind was busy chalking out the way he would undress her, tease her, and then satisfy her, leaving her wanting much more. He would do it tonight. It will be a celebration of life, of the fact that she was still with him, that they were still together.
But before that he had to get back into action. He knew who was behind this. The moment he had told Arohi about what Billu told him, only one word had escaped her mouth.
'Natasha'
In the corner of his mind, he knew that there was noone else who would attempt such a daring stunt in his house, under his nose. But now, it was payback time. He would make sure that she repented even meeting Arjun Singhania.

Rashi cut the call and kept the phone down. She closed her eyes feeling frustrated. This was the fourth time that she had chickened out. She stared at the phone, her mind still unable to decide. She went back to the last dialled list and her thumb loomed over the green phone button, which would connect the call. Taking a deep breath, she pressed the button hard. Bringing the phone to her ears, she waited for the opposite person to answer.
"ACP Rajveer Singh Ahluwalia here."
"Rajveer… Hi… Rashi bol rahi hoon."
"Hi Rashi… Sorry maine screen dekhe bina hi phone utha liya. So didn't realise its you. How are you?"
"Mein thik hu. You're at work today?"
"Haan. How was the party?" Rajveer bit his tongue the second after these words left his mouth. But Rashi caught his words and she was surprised.
"How did you know there was a party?"
"Voh… Arohi ne Lovedeep ko bataya tha and she mentioned it to me. Waise bhi it is not difficult for an ACP to know ki Chandigarh mein kab, kaha aur kya horaha hai." Rajveer was pleased with his cover up and he chuckled at the last line he said. If only Rashi was in another state of mind, she would've shared his sense of humor. But she failed to see it.
"Oh ok. Rajveer… can we meet today? For lunch?"
Now he was surprised. Before whenever they had met, it had been for some specific work. And for not more than a coffee. But she was asking to meet for lunch. Was she asking him out? Like on a date?
'Shut up Rajveer… Maybe she has something to discuss which she cannot say over the phone.' Rajveer was busy chiding himself when Rashis voice brought him back to the present.
"Hello… Rajveer? Are you there?"
"Yes. Sorry. Sure we can meet over lunch. Where do you want to meet?"
After deciding the time and venue, Rashi hung up and leaned back in her chair. She looked around her cabin which was a mess right now. There were swatches of cloths everywhere, fabrics, laces and what not scattered around as she was working on her first collection ever. But she had not touched a single piece after she had walked in today morning. The 'accident' at the party had unnerved her. She needed to share it with someone. The first person that came to her mind was Lovedeep. But Rajveer would be able to help her in this case. Also, she had promised him that she will take care of Arohi, and she felt that she had failed him. He needed to know that. Maybe he could help them to find out the reason behind this. She could not imagine Rajveer and Arjun working together to solve something. But something told her that they would do it for Arohis sake.
Rashi picked up her coffee mug and sipped the now cold coffee. Somewhere in the corner of her heart, she felt excited to see Rajveer at lunch. She just prayed that she could keep these feelings to herself and not convey it to him through her eyes.

Arohis phone rang flashing Arjuns name on the screen. She picked up the call with a smile and froze as Arjun spoke without letting her say hello.
"Aaj shaam ko 6 baje ready rehna. Mein tumhe pick up karunga." Arohis eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"Arjun… Generally log jab phone karte hain toh hi, hello, kehte hain. Ek sirf tum ho jo seedhe baat karna shuru kar dete ho."
"Arohi… Jab tumhe pata hai ki maine phone kiya hai, kyuki mera number tumhare mobile mein saved hai, to mein hello hi mein time kyu waste karu. Aaj shaam ko 6 baje ready rehna. Mein tumhe pick up karunga."
"Tum sachme ajeeb ho. Fine. Ready rahungi. Hum kaha jaarahe hain?"
"That's a surprise. Usskeliye tumhe wait karna hoga."
"Kya! Mein aur wait? Arjun tum jaante ho mujh mein kitna patience koot koot ke bhara hai! Please batao, hum kahan jaarahe hain???" Arohi started jumping in excitement like a child. Arjun smiled almost imagining her over anxious face.
"Uhuh! Maine kaha na tumhe wait karna hoga."
"Ok." Arohi paused for 10 seconds and burst out talking. "Hogaya wait! Ab batao kahan!!!"
"Arohi… Shaam tak wait karo. Intezaar ka fal meetha hota hai."
"BILKUL NAI! Intezaar ka fal bekaar hota hai. Arjun, agar iss duniya mein main kuch nahi kar sakti, toh voh hai INTEZAAR. Please batao naa!"
"Bye Arohi. See you at 6. Aur haan… make sure you wear a saree. Bye."
Arohis jaw dropped open as she heard Arjun disconnect the call. She brought the phone in front of her face, not believing that he had actually disconnected. Scrunching her eyes in anger, she threw the phone on the bed and crossed her hands across her chest.
'Samajhta kya hai apne aapko… Monster kahin ka! Agar bata dega toh kaunsa toofan aajayega?' Arohi fumed in rage.
'Lekin he wants to surprise you Arohi… whats wrong in that! If he ruins your surprise how will you feel???" Arohis expressions softened with the argument she had with herself. 'Maybe he wants to do something special for you after what happened last night. No, I will not ruin Arjuns surprise. I will try and keep patience.' Joining her hands in a prayer, Arohi looked up. 'Hey Bhagwaan, mujhe patience do… please."
Up in the heaven, gods smiled down at her, as they remembered Arjuns counter comment when Arohi had prayed for patience before.
"Bhagwan se patience maang rahi hai… voh bhi impatient hoke. Stupid!"

"Lekin Romit… I… I don't know…"
"Kyu baby? Tum itna tension kyu lerahi ho?"
"Romit… Mein ye nahi karsakti. I cant do it!"
"But why? Please baby. Just once. Mein phir nahi kahunga."
"No Romit. I'm not comfortable. Please… mein…"
"Bohat log karte hain Shefu! Please baby…"
"Maine pehle kabhi ye nahi kiya… I don't know… I…"
"C'mon Shefali. Arohi bhabhi ne bhi toh kiya haina…"
"Arohi aur Arjun ki shaadi ho chuki hai! Its different for them…"
"Isska shaadi se kya lena dena? Shefali please… You are a modern girl. Don't talk like a behenji…"
"Haww… tumne mujhe behenji kaha??!! Why don't you understand! What if you don't like…"
"Aisa ho hi nahi sakta baby… Please ek baar. Please…"
"Kisiko pata chal gaya toh?"
"Kaise pata chalega??? Ghar mein koi bhi nahi hai! Bro aur bhabhi baahar gaye hai, Mikhai bhai club, Mom dad party mein, Rashi Dadi aur Raj mall gaye hai aur wahi dinner karke aayenge. So iss waqt ghar mein sirf hum dono hain."
Romit looked at Shefali with a naughty twinkle in his eyes. Shefali could not help but smile at him, the dimples in her cheeks deepening. First she had been surprised when Romit had dragged her right from the main door till his room, refusing to answer her questions. But when he placed his demand in front of her, she understood why he was so eager. She was suddenly feeling shy. She just hoped that he wont be disappointed.
"Ok fine. Just this once. Ok?" Shefali looked warningly at Romit and he grinned.
"Ok. I wont ask again. Unless you enjoy it and want to do it again." Romit winked at her and she blushed.
"Lekin…"
"Don't worry baby. Kuch nahi hoga aur kisiko pata nahi chalega. Ok?"
Shefali lowered her eyes and nodded her head in agreement. Romit ran towards his room door and locked it. He rushed to the windows and shut the curtains. Running back to the switch board, he dimmed the lights and jumped on his bed. Picking up a pillow, he hugged it on his lap and looked at his girlfriend as she stood in front of the bed, looking at his eager face with a smile.
"Ek minute." Shefali stopped in her tracks as Romit yelled. He grabbed the remote off his side table and hit the play button. The room filled with the sweet sound of his favourite remixed song 'Raat baaki… baat baaki'. Leaning back against the headboard, he looked at Shefali as she started dancing to the tune… only for him!
