Chapter Sixteen – The Culprit
I ended up going to the studio even though I didn't have work. I saw all the other workers there. I walked straight up to the group of guys and I spoke with clear anger in my voice.
"Who. Spiked. My. Wife's. Drink?"
None of them spoke. I ended up grabbing one of them by the collar and that helped him spill the beans.
"It was Raj! It wasn't us!"
"Good. Now how hard was that?"
I let him go and saw Raj standing in the corner reading his script. He played a background actor in my upcoming movie. I'd only known him for a few weeks now.
His back was towards me. I felt the group of guys' eyes on me as I stormed towards Raj.
I placed a hand on his shoulder and before he could even properly see who it was, I had spun him and punched him in the jaw.
"How dare you spike my wife's drink?!"
"I was just having fun!"
"Fun?! You call that fun?! Do you have any idea what you did?!"
I know, you all are probably thinking 'poor guy', even I did for a bit. I thought I was letting out my frustration due to Madhu on this guy. But after I thought about it, I wouldn't have been in that condition in the first place if he hadn't spiked Madhu's drink. I wouldn't have slept with her or anything. And so…
I continued to punch him. He fell to the ground and I kicked him a bit before I picked him up to punch him again.
That's when I heard her soft bell-like voice call out my name.
I thought I was imagining things and so I continued to let out all my anger on Raj.
Then I heard her voice again, this time a bit more frantic.
"RK STOP! PLEASE!"
I turned my head and saw her standing behind me with a shocked face on her look.
I dropped Raj and turned to look at her. I saw her eyes fall onto Raj and they became watery.
I turned and looked at Raj who had his eyes closed in pain. He was bleeding and bruised. But I still didn't regret it.
I picked him up by the collar and threatened him.
"Next time you spike my wife's drink…you won't live to see another day."
I dropped him again and turned around. I saw Madhu's eyes on me, but I was angry with her as well. As she stood there in a state of shock, I walked past her and out of the studio.
I heard her light footsteps following me to the parking lot. I went towards my car and went to open the door when I saw her fair skinned hand on top of mine.
I stared at her hand on top of mine for a second and my angry expression disappeared.
I turned my head to face her and saw her looking at me with a face full of regret.
I wondered why she looked regretful and then she spoke.
"I'm sorry."
She spoke in a cute, child-like voice and then smiled. She tilted her head and put her hands to her ears.
"Sorry?"
She repeated herself as I continued to look at her with a straight face.
I tried to keep my straight face but she looked so adorable that I couldn't help but let a smile cross my face.
"Biwi…you're crazy. You know that right?"
"Correction! I'm unique! Now are you going to take me home or should I go home in a taxi?"
"Hmm…"
"REALLY? You have to think abou…"
She stopped talking and put her hand to her head. I watched as she closed her eyes and swayed slightly. She almost lost her balance but I caught her just on time.
As she fell into my arms, I looked at her in shock. I had no idea what was wrong.
"Madhu?!"
She was still conscious and she managed to open her eyes.
"I…I'm okay."
I brought her back to standing position but kept my hands on her shoulders.
She looked down with closed eyes for a second and then opened her eyes. She looked up at me and gave a tired smile.
"I just need to sit down. I'm okay."
I helped her to the passenger side and opened the door for her. I helped her into the car and with her seatbelt.
She was too dizzy I suppose to take a glance at me when I came close to her.
I closed her door and went to sit in the driver seat.
I put on my seatbelt and looked at her.
"Care to explain what's wrong?"
She looked at me. She seemed to be feeling a bit better now. She spoke with sarcasm.
"Mr. Rishabh Kundra, do you not remember how I woke up with a hangover and then you made me chase you all the way to the studio?"
I looked at her for a second and realized that I had completely forgotten that she had been nauseous and dizzy this morning from the hangover.
I tried to make her laugh.
"Well, next time, don't drink so much!"
It worked.
She laughed and I admired her. She was beautiful when she was happy. When she laughed.
I started the car and drove home. Forgetting everything that happened within the past two days.
