He gave an amusing smile hearing his wife singing while taking a bath in the bathroom.He had expected her to hum some melodious girly song in sweet voice when she told him this morning that she was a bathroom singer but now hearing her singing "eye of the tiger" in full voice made him realize once more that his assumptions could never be right regarding his life partner.Her wonderful rock singing took a pause as she yelled from bathroom,asking maan where had he kept the conditioner.
He was about to tell her about conditioner when he heard a knock at the bedroom door.
"Wait geet.."He yelled back as he moved towards the door.
"Where is geet beta???"Nani asked as soon he opened the door.
"She is in bathroom naani" Maan answered.
"ohk beta..actually I wanted to meet "geet" before leaving for home today.."
"You are going naani???"Maan asked with disappointment in his voice"please stay few more days.."
"No beta,I can't stay for so many days in my daughter's house..I came for your marriage and I am very happy that everything went good.My grandson got such a beautiful wife.."Nani said with a smile which enhanced the wrinkles around her eyes."I would wait for her downstairs.."Nani said as she turned around to leave.
Nani had taken much pain to come to his room upstairs just to meet geet..Maan could not let her go this way as he was very well aware of her "knee pain".
"Nani..why don't you wait in my room till she comes out.."He suggested as he steered the old lady inside.
To his good luck,geet did not yell for conditioner this time but very soon she resumed her "rock singing",however her voice was quite low this time..Maan tried to make himself busy in his laptop as he knew very well that nani was going to ask about her singing very soon.
"Is she praying in english???"Nani asked after some time.
"praying???"Maan asked in confusion.
"yes praying..I also keep chanting "gayatri matra" while taking bath..She must be chanting some "English mantra"..Nani surmised making maan smile at her conclusion.
"No naani..She is not praying...She is just singing.."Maan told her.
"Hmm,,,"Nani gave an understanding nod as she saw geet coming out from the bathroom in bathrobe.
Geet's eyes widen in shock watching nani in the room.Her eyes roamed around anxiously to find dupatta to cover her head but it was not there.Even she had left her towel in the bathroom otherwise she could have used it.Rather than opening the cupboard to get the dupatta,her "strange" brain made her pick maan's handkerchief from the bed as she covered her head with it.Maan smacked his fore head in disappointment watching his "weird" wife.
"Namaste naani ji.."Geet stammered.
"Namaste beta.."Nani replied.She gestured her to sit near her as she spoke ,"come here beta.."
Geet covered the distance with reluctant steps looking towards maan who was gesturing her with eyes to remove that handkerchief from her head.
"He is asking you to remove this.."Nani said removing the handkerchief from her head as soon geet settled near her on the bed.
"Actually nani..I was about to wear dupatta.."
"Its ok beta..Respect should be in "heart"..These rituals does not matter if your heart respects me.."Nani explained caressing her head lovingly.Her words made geet much comfortable.
"You are not behaving like strict principal today naani..."Geet exclaimed with a toothy grin making maan smacking his fore head once again.
"Its because I am leaving today,beta.."
"You are going naani???"Geet asked.
"Yes beta..I am going..and I just wanted to gift you "this" before leaving.."Nani said handing her a small box.
"Wow gift...I love "gifts" naani.."Geet said in a voice full of excitement as her hand got busy in opening the box.There were two beautiful gold bangles in the box."They are beautiful naani..Thank you so so so much.."She spoke further as she hugged the old lady.Next minute,bangles were adorning her wrists..
"let me show everyone what i got.."Geet was about to run out of the room in bathrobe when maan stopped her.."wait geet..change your clothes first.."
Maan's voice halted her steps as well as excitement.
"oh yess..."Geet said with a sorry face taking her tongue between teeth.
"I should leave now..."Nani said getting up from the bed slowly."Take care beta.."She said caressing maan's cheek.
"You too take care of yourself naani.."He replied as he hugged her."Come i will take you downstairs.."he spoke further as he took her hand in his.
"Bye naani.."Geet chirped bending down to touch her feet..
"God bless you beta..always keep smiling like this.."Nani blessed her.
"I thought you would give "typical grandma blessing"Geet said making nani furrow her brows in confusion.
"What blessing???"She asked.
"May you would give us a "chotu laddu" very soon..."Geet answered with a wink.
Nani smiled as she slapped geet's cheek lovingly where as maan wished for a "invisibility cloak" so he could hid his pink cheeks.."Common nani lets go now.."He said as he steered her out of the room as soon as possible to save himself from further embarrassment.
"Nani wait.."Geet's anxious voice stopped them in the track as both turned around.
"I was acting in kitchen yesterday naani..Maa had not scolded me ..She was just helping to cook halwa for bhog.."Geet confessed with her eyes downcast.
There was silence in the air for sometime which was broken by naani's voice as she exclaimed with a smile,"Your wife is "Hemamalini" laddu..She is not only pretty but acts so well also."
For first time in life,geet was stunned to silence.She was expecting naani to come back to her "strict avatar" but her comment left geet flabbergasted.It took time for her to find a suitable reply as maan and naani heard her yelling from behind..
"not Hema malini naani...say "Kareena Kapoor".."!!!

Maan was coming back inside the house after bidding bye to naani when he remembered the "gift" he had got for his wife yesterday.Actually naani's gift had reminded him of "laakh bangles" he had got from agra from geet.He sprinted towards hall to collect his travel bag which was laying there on couch since he had returned yesterday.A smile crept on his lips as he watched his little nephew unpacking his bag as soon he entered the hall. Aarav was searching for his "gift" that his mamu might have got for him. Maan saw the bangle box lying on the floor among his clothes which aarav had thrown down during his search.Before he could reach near the box,he found maya aunty picking the box from the floor.Her orbs shone with excitement as she opened the box..
"Bahu..!!! Bahu..."Maya called Kiran now examining the bangles carefully.
"yes mummy ji.."Kiran said as soon she reached near the couch.
"Look..what your brother has got for you from Agra.."Maya spoke giving her the bangles.
Maan closed his eyes in irritation as he saw Maya handing the bangles to Kiran.
"They are beautiful.."He heard Kiran's voice after sometime.He opened his eyes to see his sister's face which was reflecting a woman's endearment for jewellery exactly.For once he wanted to yell that bangles were for geet not her but happiness on his sister's face did not let him.He gave a defeating sigh moving towards the couch.
"Thank you laddu.."kiran said as she pulled maan's cheek lovingly.Strangely he did not crib about his nick name today and gave a slight smile in response.
"Hey what did you get for geet???"Kiran asked further.
It was not possible for maan lie to his sister.He looked here and there in the hall to find something which could divert his sister's attention and save him form her question.
"Hey di..Look what Nani gifted me..."Geet's chirping voice brought much needed distraction for Maan as he saw her coming downstairs.
Soon his wife and his sister were busy showing each other their bangles..
"Same pinch di..we both got "bangles" "..Geet exclaimed as she pinched kiran's arm lightly.
"oho..look what mess this boy had made here???"Kiran said watching maan's clothes spreaded on the floor."let me take them for laundry.."She said as she left the hall after collecting maan's clothes from ground.
"You did not get anything for me,maan??"Geet asked looking towards maan with expectant eyes.Question was thrown back at him and It was more difficult for him to answer this time.Familiar "guilt" constricted his heart as he found himself tongue tied.
"Maamu got chocolates for us..maami.."Aarav's cute voice caught everyone's attention.Finally little boy's search was complete as he showed box full of chocolates to his maami.
"Chocolates..."Geet shrieked in excitement settling herself on couch.."Today is our lucky day..aarav!!!"She said taking Aarav in her lap.
"Tell me which would you eat first???"Geet asked searching through variety of cadbury chocolate bars in the box.
"Which is your favorite maami??We would eat that first.."Aarav suggested.
"aww..you are sweeter than these chocolates.."She said kissing his cheek.."and my favorite is "Crackle"..lets eat that first"
Maan gave a hearty smile as he watched her wife's child like excitement while unwrapping the chocolate.
Geet gave one cube to aarav and was about to take another piece in her mouth when her gaze fell on Maya autny who was looking at her with "usual anger".,reason behind which was still unknown to her.
"wait aarav.."Geet stopped little boy from eating the chocolate.
"Do we offer chocolates too for "bhog"???She asked maya aunty with much curiosity.Before maya aunty could say no,geet was gone to kitchen.She came back after sometime with plate decorated with chocolate cubes..
"I have offered "bhog" to God,aunty ji...Now we can eat."Geet exclaimed offering chocolates to Maya.
"I don't eat these "fancy sweets".."Maya answered shrugging her shoulders as she resumed her important task of examining "bangles" maan had brought.She was trying to find whether diamonds studded on "laakh bangles" were real or not.
"Fine.."Geet exclaimed with nonchalance as she fed one piece to aarav.
"Have some bhog "patidev".."Geet said now offering to maan.
Maan took one piece from plate as he saw his mother and sister coming towards the couch.
"Nani..Why don't you give "chocolates" for bhog like maami???"Aarav asked mamta innocently with his lips smeared with melt chocolate now.
"Bhog???"Mamta exclaimed in confusion.
"Yes maa..have some "chocolate wala bhog"..Geet said showing the plate to Mamta making her and Kiran laugh with amusement.
Maan kept looking at happy faces of his family.He had seen them smiling "before" but today their smiles were "laced" with happiness too.He started moving towards his room to get ready for office with his mind and heart wondering whether he would be able to give geet that love which she actually deserved.
