Just started reading the story.. was waiting for few chapters to be updated.

Thank you πŸ€— Sheesh ❀️ for coming back with a new story (Your perception of seeing things is very thought provoking !!)

You seriously have a thing for Dev. He is the one that I loved the most in TSWL. Amazing updates. πŸ‘

Maan babu is at the back-end and Dev at the front-end. Nice combination of hard core storage of money and abstracted logic (work) at the back-end (that's Maan).. catchy, sexy front-end ( that's Dev). Doing a reverse-engineering here you see.. πŸ˜‰

Geet has some air of mystery surrounding her. Is she a trojan that seems harmless but digg's all the information/data (money) from its host.

Aha !! I seriously suck at this πŸ€“.. Don't no if I even made any sense.. If not please ignore ppl..

Waiting to read more. Come back to your form soon.. Can't wait for the updates.

Edit: ASR 😲  WT !!!

Wow liked it... the whole convo between Maan - Geet ... lovely. It's sometimes only possible to find a beautiful & cozy comfort zone with some special people only. It can be even a person you've met just once... but it's like once it clicks it's formed an own beautiful treaure in your personna. Same is with this M-G. There was comfort & yet at the same time the awareness of others presence ( at least for Maan babu...πŸ˜‰).

Geet here is very intriguing & also a puzzle to be solved... very unpredictable yet full of life. Maan was escaping from bearing a company of a woman & yet landed up spending a major chunk of his time at the party with the most interesting woman of all that he has ever encountered.

Dev is living his role as the ideal fellow that he needs to be potraying in front of the world to the T...πŸ˜†πŸ˜† & smarty Maan gets to do everything under the disguise of someone who is incompetent & subservient wherein actually he is the actual mastermind... A multidirectional & multipurpose way of dealing everything at work & for the world taken by the Ma(a)n himself so that everything runs smoothly... has this step been due to something to do with the past which is inclusive of ASR's role????

Lovely start & has already hooked me onto this FF... do continue soon. 😊

Hiya folks,

@Tyro - πŸ˜‰
@serialwatcher16 - you may want to read a few earlier comments. πŸ˜ƒ

Here is the next update!
Lots of Love!!

Chap 4:

Maan:

He escorted the pretty lady back to the dinner table. He was someone who was used to thinking about company and strategies. Looking at people as resources. But the way she had spoken changed it all. People were not just action and reaction were they? Everyone was a combination of both.

He wondered about such a silly hypothesis on palindrome. And how it could probably have far reaching consequences. He looked at the doll in front of him. Thought of the moments of togetherness shared. Was it his imagination or did he see the hair on his hand raising in goose bumps.

He looked at her picking at the bits of food on her plate. Calorie conscious much? Or may be too much of crab. She had not sipped any alcohol as far as he had observed. He looked around and the place had started to clear out. The night had aged early apparently. He did not mind it. It gave him a starry night almost alone with a sharp damsel.

She did not look at him much. That bothered him slightly now. She was meddling with her hair her brown eyes accentuated by the coal black eye pencil. She had that far away look in her eyes. He seemed to be staring for all practical purposes. She was so matter of fact about it again. He was clamoring for attention and she did not seem to care. He saw her removing those earrings and putting them back in her purse. And bundling her thick hair in her little hands and tying them with a pink rubber band. Exposing her elegant shoulders. He heard a dull thudding in his chest.

Geet "So you get invited to these kind of things often?"

Maan simply nodded "Personally."

Geet "It is not that exciting if you ask me. I mean what do you get to do besides seeing a whole bunch of people? I was observing you closely from a distance. You did not seem that enthusiastic at all about meeting any of them."

Maan smiled at the cheeky dainty woman at this admission. She did observe him when he was not looking.

Maan "Vow! That is another art form. Observing people closely from a distance."

Her lips were the most flexible and twisted every which way it seemed like. She twisted and bit them trying hard not to smile.

He murmured "You are.."

She looked at him expectantly "I am what?"

Maan "Never mind. I am not good at giving compliments."

Her cheeks were tinted with pink.

Maan "Oh oh.  No need to get carried away here. I recognize all the signs."

Geet frowned "Signs of what?"

So he did affect her. He began tapping his leg enjoying the torture being meted out. It matched with his rapidly shifting heartbeat.

Geet "You are just horrible. You speak in hidden innuendoes."

Maan chuckled "I bet it drives you crazy huh."

Her eyes were lit up again. The moment was gone.

Geet "Don't push the envelope too far. People consider me a gone case already. My friends don't credit me with even half a brain you know. Ok I agree I am a bit of a nutcase. But that does not mean I am crazy."

Maan lifted a brow "So nutcase and crazy are two different things?"

Geet "Don't even get me started on that. I will reach Theory of relativity and Bernoulli equation."

Maan laughed. Her excited face was somehow unsettling. It made her seem immune. Immune from what, he wondered.

Geet "There is one thing missing from this party."

He gave a questioning look.

Geet "They serve alcohol, fruit punch, all kinds of aerated drinks. But water I haven't seen a single glass."

Maan nodded "I will get you a glass."

He was soon back with a glass of water. Was it his imagination or did he notice a stiffness in her posture. Odd. Her eyes this time were constricted and she shuffled her feet into the stilettos nervously.

Geet "I think it is time for me to go home."

He knew it.

Maan "Yes I can give you a ride if you like."

Geet shook her head.

Maan "Why not?"

Geet "You are a liar and an actor."

Maan for one moment was speechless. He should be angry. But more than anger he was stuck with a sense of senselessness. He was looking at her incredulously.

Maan "You can't be serious. Would you care to elaborate?"

Geet shook her head "No. I don't think I want to see you anymore."

She stood up and began to walk away. Some unbridled force in him made him go after her. He grabbed her arm.

Maan "Wait a minute here lady. You cannot accuse me of such nonsense and go away without some sort of an explanation."

She turned back and looked at him. Her face was shaking a bit. And her eyes were bubbling with tears of anger. He let go of her arm slowly.

Geet "Thank you for your company. Hope I never see you again. Ever."

He willed for some thoughts to form in his mind. But none seemed to oblige.

Maan "Please. Tell me. When did I lie to you?"

Geet gave him a wry smile "It is hard to remember when you tell so many lies isn't it?"

Maan "Geet! I never lied to you. I swear."

She walked away without turning back. He stood rooted watching her receding form. This had never happened to him before. Finally the thoughts came flooding back. They had not spoken much now, had they? For his life he could not figure out where he had said something that could be construed as lies. Even if he had how did it matter? All that they had shared was harmless banter. He could not understand the root cause of her anger. And the reason for its magnitude. He was sitting down now and shifted uncomfortably. Had it slipped his mind then? Whatever he had done to cause so much hurt in her.

He came back home wanting to forget the entire episode. But found himself thinking hard on each and every word that was said. Had he touched her inappropriately? She did not give any such indications. As per his recollection until he had gone to fetch a glass of water she was fine. Excited even. He hated to admit to himself he had been looking forward to sharing more moments.

He sighed. People in life are only as important as we make them out to be. May be she felt it was all too wrong. Or way too fast. Fast for what though? Nothing had happened at all. As of now the general conclusion was that it was her overactive imagination leading to another great thesis which stated Maan is a liar. QED. Great.

The next day he was watering the plants in his garden when he saw Sapna coming in. Interesting.

Sapna "Hello Maan. So making yourself useful around here huh?"

He saw her literally looking down on him. She was standing on the elevated platform leading into KM doorstep. She did not seem to mind that her voice was a bit raised. Apparently coming closer and talking to him was not worth it.

Maan "Of course. This is my home too, isn't it?"

Sapna "Yes of course. How old are you anyway? I mean I cannot imagine anyone doing what you do in the US. In fact somebody there would pay you to make your life story into a comedy show."

Maan smiled "Well I have other errands to run. So why don't you go and check if Dev is awake."

Oo touche! What had gotten into this lady now? All of a sudden Maan Singh Khurana was being bashed for reasons that seemed to have slipped from his memory. May be he had said something to Sapna unwittingly that seemed to have riled her up. You never know.

And before anyone could think he was thinking about a similar episode the previous night they were mistaken. He was not at all thinking about it. Yes the person in question was hurt by something he had said and had come to an erroneous conclusion that he was a liar. But he was not at all thinking about it.

As he was thinking about all these things he suddenly looked ahead and saw a little chubby girl of about four in a flowery skirt meddling with some flowers.

Maan "Well hello who do we have here?"

The girl looked up to him and made a face.

Maan "Now that is rude. What is your name?"

"Hima."

Maan "Hello Hima, my name is Maan."

Hima grinned.

Maan "What are you doing here? Did you lose your way home?"

Hima shook her head "I came with Di."

Maan "Who is your Di? Sapna?"

Hima nodded "I don't have a nanny now. Will you be my nanny?"

Maan tapped his forehead to the James Bond music playing in his head.

Maan "Ok. Sure. I will be Hima's nanny."

Apparently being a nanny meant being a mute spectator to the girl playing hopscotch by herself. Suddenly she tripped over a twig and fell down. She began to cry.

Maan "Oh no. There there. Don't cry."

He brushed her knee and found there was just a token scratch.

Hima "Will you take me for walk? When I cry Janice always takes me for a walk."

Maan "Sure come we have a park opposite. Let us go there and have some fun!"

Hima smiled forgetting that she had hurt herself just a few seconds ago. They walked for a while and reached the park. Which had a nice jogging track around it. They began walking along the path.

Hima "My leg hurts. Carry me. Carry me. Carry me."

Maan smiled "Ok fine."

He carried her in his arms for about ten minutes and walked. His arms began hurting.

Maan "You are a big girl now Hima. I cannot carry you for a long time you know."

Her face assumed a serious and mature expression.

Hima "You can put me down anytime. You do not have to inform me about it."

Maan was surprised. Was this the same little four year old who was whining few minutes back. Children were so much easier and sweeter than adults now, weren't they?

Maan "I have a better idea."

Hima smiled conspiringly "What is it?"

Maan "If I have to tell you, you have to give me a kiss. A sloppy one."

Hima wet her lips and gave him a huge kiss on his cheek.

Maan "Good girl. Now see the shoulder and back in a human body is stronger than the forearms. So Hima will now be sitting on Maan."

He hoisted her above himself. She was now sitting on his shoulders and had her legs dangling onto his chest and hanging onto his hair for balance. She was giggling. She was the happiest soul in the world. She felt so tall and big. She started playing with his hair.

Maan "Ah don't mess with my hairdo now."

Hima "You are very handsome. You look like a red rose."

Ah perfect. Snow white and Red rose.

Maan "Really?"

Hima nodded though he could not see her.

After a few minutes of walking, Hima "Will you be my facebook friend?"

Maan laughed "Sorry sweetheart. I don't use facebook."

Hima was gearing up to cry again.

Maan "But I will be your real friend."

Hima stopped crying for a bit "What is real friend?"

Maan "Hmm see facebook friend can only send you pictures and type messages. But a real friend can carry you on his shoulders when your legs are tired or hurting."

Hima "Ok then I want real friend."

Maan "Good girl. I think we have to go back home now."

Hima "No! Is your nanny time over?"

Maan "Yes cutie pie. My nanny time is over. I have other work now. Come let us go back home. Get down."

Hima "No! I am sitting here. It is so nice."

Well one is easily fooled. Children were not that easy. He came out of the park and was carrying her back on the street as well. A few people stared and Hima waved and grinned at all of them.

When they finally reached home he got her down.

Maan "So nice meeting you Hima."

Hima "That is a nice watch. Are those real diamonds?"

Maan nodded. Hima wishfully touched the sterling and sparkling mini diamonds that studded the dial of his watch. In the sunlight their beauty was almost unbearable. He prayed she wouldn't demand the watch. He knew he was going to be a sucker for a sweet four year old weepy face.

Hima "They are so beautiful."

Maan laughed "But remember the time that a watch shows is more valuable and expensive than the diamonds around it."

Hima nodded "Ok."

But she looked thoughtful.

Maan "What is Hima thinking now?"

Hima "What if the watch stops working?"

Maan grinned "Well aren't you one smart cookie. Will you marry me?"

Hima nodded her head vigorously.

Maan "Ok come back here in twenty years. I will be waiting!"

Hima gave him a teddy bear hug. And ran off to find her elder sister. Maan sighed. At least a four year old understood him. Good going.

The rest of the weekend was nothing to write home about. Come Monday, Maan was in office. There was a meeting going on. With some of the usual suspects.  His resident financial gurus Adi, Meera. And the big boss Dev.

Adi "SSir. This time we cannot sign this contract. They do not possess the encumbrance certificate."

Maan nodded.

Dev "Bro,…"

Meera cut him "But I feel that we should still go ahead and buy it anyway. If there are some legal dues we.."

Dev "But the price…"

Adi "Sir. I don't think that is a good idea in this case. It is all well and good. But I am suspecting that the man is hiding something. We need to find out more. And then we need to make sure that he has the necessary approval."

Dev "There is a…"

Maan "I think Meera is right Adi. For the price they are quoting it is a steal. We have done this many times before. I don't see any harm in doing it again. I know the last time we had a team meeting we decided to not adopt risky shortcuts. But for this case me and Meera I think are in agreement that an exception is due. Show me the papers. I can sign it. And Dev you also need to make a few signatures."

Dev "Of course."

Maan brought out his magic special lucky pen. It was special for many reasons. One it cost upwards of 2000 dollars. Two whatever he signed with it went well without any problems. Three it felt important to hold it. Four it wrote well. And why the hell not. It used a special ink shipped directly from the manufacturer.

He signed several documents happily smoothly and flawlessly. He kept the pen beside the documents and picked the pages up to go through one last time. He then brought out the company seal and applied the same in all the relevant places.

Dev borrowed a pen from Adi and completed all his formalities. Maan was discussing with Adi and then everyone except Maan left the room. Maan began packing his briefcase again.

And suddenly he found his pen was missing. He knew he had kept it right beside the documents. He began his frantic search. But it led nowhere. It was official. Maan Singh Khurana seemed to be definitely suffering from memory loss.
