The man standing in front of her smiled as he forwarded his hand to slip ring in her hand when the lights went off. There was so much darkness around her. Beeje left her hand and Aarti looked around in a trance, hoping him to be there.
She dropped the ring that she had been firmly holding. It appeared to be so heavy in her hands that she wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible.
The next moment she heard a gunshot at the back of the hall. Someone shot the chandelier, breaking it into numerous pieces.
Everyone's attention was diverted. The noise created panic among the guests, and they started dispersing in the darkness colliding with each other.
Before Aarti could comprehend the whole situation, someone covered her mouth and started dragging her from there. She threw her hands fanatically in the air to save herself but the person dragged her out of there.
She tried to free herself and in process bit the hand of the person that was covering her mouth. He yelped in pain and released her instantly.
Aarti turned around to find that the person's face was covered with the black mask and he was holding his bitten hand and cursing her in pain.
"Yash.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" She yelled helplessly for the help while his gaze was fixed at the masked person in front of her.
She was jerked roughly by someone and she turned around only to find herself in Yash's grip. The only person for whom she had been madly and impatiently waiting was standing right in front of her eyes.
His eyes were violent with fury and his hands were trembling with anger as he looked at her and then his gaze strode towards the person who was wearing the mask and who had dragged her out of the hall.
With one swift moment he covered her with his body, acting as barrier between her and the masked man.
"How dare you?" He punched the masked man. His one punch was ample enough to render him almost unconscious on the floor.
"Boss!" Pratik came running from behind.
"Can't you handle a simple situation, when I am gone?" Yash turned around and targeted Pratik.
"I couldn't even complete my task and I had to come back after your stupid phone call. What on earth is your problem?" His voice was harsh as he again kicked the person who was lying on the ground.
"Boss actually someone tried to attack her yesterday also and I couldn't track them and I thought I couldn't handle the situation so I called you and Suraj Pratap is going to get her married in two days and among so many guests how can we make out who is the actual guest and who is the bloody attacker. It's only matter of two days and once she leaves from here she won't be our responsibility."
Pratik paused and then added.
"They will attack her and finish her off as soon as she marries and step out of here."
"Nothing will happen to her. I will take her from, here until she is safe." Yash roared and then his attention was diverted to the masked man.
He wanted to beat life out of this man for touching her but then he looked at Aarti who was pale and blank. He knew that she won't be able to witness violence. Hence he decided to leave the masked man at Pratik's mercy.
"Pratik you know what you have to do?" He asked Pratik.
"Yes boss," Pratik answered confidently.
"Good," Yash murmured as he grabbed Aarti's hand and towed her along with him. Pratik thumped on the ground, holding his heart as soon as Yash left from there.
"Ahhh," The masked man lying on the ground cried while taking his mask off his face.
"Oh God! Is that man made of iron? I hate you Pratik. You only instructed me to get Aarti from there so that Yash assumes that she is being attacked. You liar, he was about to kill me." Uday complained holding his stomach in pain.
"What he would have done if he would have known that it was our fake plan to bring him back and we faked an attack on Aarti too. He would have shredded us into pieces in minutes." Uday was still in shock after being ruthlessly beaten by Yash.
"If you think that he doesn't know then you are mistaken." Pratik told him.
"He already doubted me, when he left. He has a sharp hearing, sharper eyes and sharpest mind." Pratik sighed
"But instead of confirming, he took Aarti along with him and didn't even bother to confirm his doubts. It means.." Pratik was thinking hard
"What?" Uday asked in confusion.
"It means that he was looking for a chance to take her from here. He needed an excuse and we gave him that. Remember it is not possible to dodge Yash Sindhia so easily. It means he is in love with her." Pratik told Uday in excitement.
"Yeah, he loves her and she loves him. But in the end, I would be in no state to love anyone. I highly doubt that I would be able to attend my own engagement, without fear, after all this." Uday said as he tried to get up from the floor.
********
Yash shoved her in car and started to drive the car. She was still in a trance and didn't utter a single word.
Yash Monologue:
The moment I entered the hall and saw a ring in her hand, my mind burned with an unknown and powerful rage and fury. I wanted to kill that person standing in front of her.
I wanted to sway her away from everyone. She is only mine, only mine.
Nothing made sense at that moment. I was a mad man who had been deprived of all rationality. I could have spoiled everything within a few seconds. All my efforts and all my work that I have been planning against Pratap would have gone into the drain.
But at that point, other things hardly mattered to me. Then I saw how she forwarded her hand. It was an unbearable sight. I thought she did have some feelings for me. May be not strong enough but she did feel something. But I couldn't believe how easily she forwarded her hand.
I clenched my fists as the whole scene replayed in front of my eyes again.
But then I realized that she was not happy. She seemed to be lost. I tried to argue that maybe this was my imagination because I wanted it to be that way.
I looked at her from the corner of my eyes. She seemed to be lost in her thoughts. I increased the speed to reach the farmhouse soon.
And now I had to face the most important question.
What was I planning to do with her.?
I have collected all the documents I needed to use against Pratap while I was securing the security system and now I had everything needed to expose his real face, in front of whole world. And that would be enough to destroy him and his political career.
But what about her? I asked myself and I had no clear answer.
I doubted Pratik the moment he called me that some people tried to attack Aarti. I know he was lying because I had no information about it. But still, I decided to go there and make sure myself.
And now I realize that the attack on her was also planned because those underworld people are not stupid enough to send one person to kidnap her. And that person hardly fought back and he was clearly untrained. He was so frail that he went flat on the floor with my single punch.
Oh God, but still I pretended to believe them because that was my only excuse to bring her here with me.
But I can't let her get involved with me more since I would ultimately have to destroy that Pratap, her father. I am sure that the people who are behind her life are no longer danger for her. I tried to reason but somewhere, I knew that I won't be able to leave her and I was not a saint or good man who could see her marrying someone else.
I closed my eyes since everything was becoming more ambiguous than ever.
End of Monologue
He stopped the car when they reached the farmhouse. He opened her door and flinched in pain to see her expression.
"Aarti," He called her but there was no reply.
"Aarti," He caressed her chee lovingly and turned her face towards him.
"There is nothing to worry. I am here. ok?" He told her intently but what next happened was something that he had never expected.
"I Love you," She told him, looking deep into his eyes.
