Separation Day One

By the time RK woke up, more than half of the first day without Madhu had passed. He looked at the time and smiled. "Only one day and a bit left," he thought to himself. He called for Bittuji, who came running in instantly:

RK: I want to go for shoot Bittuji.

Bittuji: What? You're in no condition to go fo…

RK: I know, but I want to.

Bittuji: Chief. Are you missing bhabiji?

RK gave Bittuji his "what did you just say" look and Bittuji spoke:

Bittuji: I mean…no, that's exactly what I mean chief.

(RK sighs)

RK: I don't know.

Bittuji: Should I call her?

RK: No, I called her earlier. She's busy with family. Let her be, I'll survive.

Bittuji: You're not going for shoot chief.

RK: I know. Just, find me something to do then.

Bittuji: Should I turn on a movie?

RK: Sure.

Back at Madhu's place, she was preparing for dinner. She noticed Malik was missing:

Madhu: Ma, I'll be back in a bit, I'm just going to go check on Malik.

Padmini: Okay. He said he was going for a walk in the woods outside our chawl.

Madhu: Oh? Okay.

Madhu walked out towards the woods and found Malik. His back was towards her and she was just about to call his name when she saw him burying something:

Madhu: Malik? What is…

Malik quickly turned around and tried to block the view behind him with his body:

Malik: Madhu! Oh it's nothing, let's g…

Madhu: No, you're hiding something.

Madhu looked around Malik and was shocked to see a gun in the ground. She stepped back and almost tripped but managed to keep balance. Malik put an arm out and she raised her hand. Her eyes were beginning to fill with tears:

Madhu: You? How coul…

Malik: No Madhu, beta, I didn…

Madhu: It was you all along. How could you even think about killing my…

She stopped speaking, turned around and ran away. Malik stood there in shock; he didn't know what to do or how to explain himself to Madhu.

Madhu reached the chawl and grabbed her bag. Padmini followed Madhu and called her name when she saw Madhu leaving:

Padmini: Madhu?!

Madhu: Ma, I'll be back later. I need to go. I'm sorry.

Padmini: What's wrong? Why are you cryi…

Madhu quickly turned and ran out. She didn't know how to tell Padmini that Malik was out to kill her husband. Padmini called out for Madhu again and was going to chase after her but Madhu ran fast. Madhu grabbed the first taxi she could and headed back to RK. Malik watched as she drove off in the taxi.

It was nearly 10pm by the time she got home. She entered their house and Dipali watched Madhu in shock as she ran up to RK's room with tears in her eyes.

RK, who sat on the couch watching a movie heard his door open. He didn't turn to see who it was:

RK: Bittuji, I said no interruptions.

Madhu: R..K…..

RK heard Madhu's voice, he heard the pain and the hurt in it. He didn't like the sound of that. He quickly got up and turned to see Madhu standing in the doorway with tears in her eyes:

RK: Biwi…?

Madhu couldn't help herself. She needed someone to calm her, to make her feel better, and to tell her that everything would be all right. So the first thing she did was drop her bag and run into RK's arms. Once again, he was taken off guard, like the first time she had hugged him. But this time, he slowly raised his arms and very gently put them around her. He tried to comfort her by gently rubbing her back as she sobbed into his chest. Then she quietly spoke in the middle of her tears:

Madhu: Mal..ik……

RK realized what Madhu had just found out:

RK: I had told him not to break your heart.

Madhu pulled back slightly and just asked him:

Madhu: You knew?

RK: I…well yes. But I also knew that if you found out, you'd be like this. And I didn't want yo…

RK stopped talking, he didn't want his biwi to know that he cared:

Madhu: You didn't want what?

RK: Nothing. Why don't you ge…

Madhu: RK, please tell me.

RK: Biwi, I didn't want you to cry. That's all. All you do is cry.

RK used his sarcastic tone to make Madhu change the topic. She pulled herself out of RK's arms and fixed her hair. She turned:

RK: Biwi. Where are you going?

Madhu: To cry somewhere where it doesn't bother you.

RK: No, I didn't mean that.

Madhu: You never mean anything.

RK walked in front of her and pulled her back into his arms:

RK: Honestly, I missed you. I'm not letting you leave my sight now. Everything will be all right.
