Guess what? Delnaazz was a teacher!
This might come as a surprise to many but Delnaazz Paul, the cute plump actor who's made her presence felt in serials like Shararat, Yes Boss and Sonpari, was a teacher once upon a time. Recalls the actor, "I taught in Jaihind college for around two years. This was immediately after my marriage." And no, Delnaazz was not teaching the art of acting to the kids, but in fact, she was teaching them History! "Yes, I had done my MA in History from the same college and they knew I was interested in teaching. So when they had problem with one of the teachers, they called me. I taught the class for a year and I enjoyed it so much, I continued to teach for another," she adds with a smile.
So how did teaching's loss become television's gain? "Actually I was doing theatre alongside teaching and later I started getting offers for television," she says. So then what made her choose acting over teaching? "It was Rajev's doing," she smiles. He told me that I'm a better actor than him and trust me, it takes a lot of guts for a man to say that," she adds. The actor says that the most fun times she had as a teacher were on Teacher's Day. "I used to get a lot of greeting cards and flowers on that day. Whoever said a teacher's job is a thankless one, tru;y doesn't know what he's saying," she adds. But Delnaazz says that it was her acting skills that helped her in teaching too. "I think I made the classes a little more interesting and glamorous. In fact, guys from other classes also used to come and sit during my lectures," she recalls. Maybe to look at the cute teacher? "Maybe!" she laughs. And who was her favourite historical character? "Jhansi ki rani," she says with another laugh. Rajev would probably agree!
