"We have to start calling caterers, florists... I still need to tell everyone else, more importantly my parents..."
"Me too, I'm not sure how to break it to them-" she added, biting her lip with worry.
Yash & Pinky reached the door of Pinky's apartment & stopped in their tracks.
Pinky blinked a few times, whilst Yash looked around to make sure they were in the right building.
"Is it just me," he spoke, "or has your front door changed?"

"Geet, am I right?"
Geet smiled and nodded, running a hand over her curls in an attempt to tame them as Savitri stepped aside and let her in.
"Usually one of the servants would attend to the door, but I like to give them the odd evening off here & there. Please, take a seat."
As the Khurana matriarch took a seat opposite her, Geet marvelled in the simplistic elegance and beauty of the Khurana Mansion. There was nothing egotistical about the place - only pride.
"What brings you here, my love?" Savitri asked, masterfully concealing her delight at the young girl's arrival. She was modern, independent and seemed like she was always on her feet - not to mention beautiful.
A perfect match for Maan, she thought, already concocting ideas in her mind over how to bring the two together.
Geet fiddled with her fingers. "I'm not sure if this is my place to say... but it's regarding his relationship with Dev."
Savitri shifted uncomfortably, re-adjusting her sari & Geet's toes curled in dread. She couldn't tell Savitri about the situation between herself & Maan, so she had come to the mansion in a pretence to display concern about Maan & Dev, which wasn't exactly a lie. Maan had hit Dev after all, although his reasons were justified. The trouble was, he couldn't bring himself to display his justification to Geet, something which was constantly nagging away at her insides.
She was about to speak further when Savitri didn't respond, but just in the perfect timing, her phone began to ring.
"Excuse me," she said, pulling out her phone & seeing Pinky's number.
The apartment door! Geet smacked her forehead with her palm, startling Savitri.
"Pinky, I am so sorry, I forgot to tell you, it's been a very busy day, just-just stand there in guard, or call the Punjaban dude from down the hall to act as your bodyguard. Ooh I know, remember the glass panels we have from my university days?"
Maan was descending the stairs, out of his office attire & into casual wear when he saw Geet & almost stumbled down the stairs. He grabbed the rail in the nick of time as he watched her ramble on the phone as his dadima sat patiently opposite her.
He contemplated dashing back upstairs quickly but it was too late; Savitri had spotted him & beckoned for him to join her.
He feigned indifference and tried to relax his swollen fist as he casually attempted to walk into the room, trying not to display the shock & surprise at the thought of Geet following him home to get her answer.
So this is what teenage girls feel like when they approach their crush... am I blushing?! he discreetly placed his hands over his burning cheeks, pretending to brush his hands over his face in a nonchalant manner. For God's sake Maan, get a hold over yourself and stop acting like this is the first time you've been in her presence.
Geet was now silent now, listening to Pinky, then her mouth dropped open slightly. "What do you mean, someone fixed our door?"
His head shot up at that point, which didn't go unnoticed by Savitri as she realised what her grandson had done & smirked at his charming gentlemen ways.
Geet looked up slowly to find Maan staring back at her, and the phone almost dropped out of her hand. She hadn't seen his car parked outside when she'd discreetly done a 360 panoramic snoop of the house to look for any signs of him being home.
Damn it, I knew I should have come tomorrow morning instead-
Wait, what did she just say?
"Repeat that again, Pinky," Geet said, frowning.
"Yash & I are engaged," came the voice from the other end, & Geet squealed in delight.
"You & Yash are engaged!!"
"Wait, what?!" Maan bellowed, jumping up from the couch - and this time Geet's phone really did drop.

Dev sighed as his mother paced the floor of their living room, her long manicured fingers tapping against her chin in restlessness.
"You are losing focus of the plan, Devendra," she shot an icy look at her son, who sat with an ice pack to his face.
He mumbled in response as he rested his head against the back of the couch.
"It is behaviour & attitude like this which has led to your face being ripped apart in two. Had you not have allowed yourself to be distracted, we wouldn't be in this position."
"He didn't actually rip my face apart Mother, it's only a bruise. And what distractions? I'm doing as you say. I'm constantly pushing myself to stretch my abilities, but of course that would go unnoticed by you-"
She raised a warning finger. "Never forget that it is your mother whom you are speaking to like this. The curly haired bombshell is the catalyst in all of this."
"Geet?" Dev sat up. "Geet didn't do anything wrong."
Pammi scoffed. "She is doing everything wrong. With her arrival, Maan is improving. With her arrival, you are lagging behind. With her arrival, we lost one of our best architects!"
"Since when did you care about Sasha, Mother?" he asked, throwing the ice pack aside now as his rarely displayed temper flared. "Everyone in that office is a pawn to you, a chess piece. Including myself. And I'll tell you this now - Sasha didn't leave because of Geet, she left because of-"
Her eyes bore into his, demanding an answer, and he felt the familiar pang of guilt wash over him as he retreated to his room, slamming the door shut as the sound reverberated through the empty house.

"Hello? Hellooo?"
Pinky's voice through the speaker of the phone cut the deathly silence that had settled upon the room as Maan glared at Geet, Geet glared at the marble floor and Savitri's eyes flitted between the two in confusion.
"Yash? My best friend Yash? And your friend Pinky?!" His voice rose until it was a barely recognisable pitch, reminiscent of his pubescent days.
"Careful Maan, anyone would think you're a 13 year old boy again," Savitri couldn't resist & grinned slightly, but neither Maan nor Geet were amused.
Geet finally picked up her phone & cut the call, before hesitantly looking up at her boss. "Look, they didn't want anyone to know-"
"But you knew."
"I'm her best friend, she lives with me. Yash is over at ours a lot, how could I not know?"
"Why would they want to hide it from me?"
Geet shrugged. "Honestly, I have no idea. You'll have to ask Yash."
His eyes narrowed. "I feel like you're hiding something from me, Geet."
The unexpected accusation hit a nerve, and she met his eyes as she slowly stood up, level with him. "And you're not hiding things from me... right, Maan?"
Their eyes darted endless questions back & forth to the other, then the door slammed against the wall with a deathly bang and all 3 heads turned to the culprit of the chaos.

"Well, look what the cat dragged in." Gauri was a woman of few words, but she scrutinised her daughter's empty expression with deep analysis as she sipped her tea.
Sasha's fingers circled the rim of the precious china cup, when the emotions could no longer be contained and she broke down into tears, a few stray drops wandering off into the hot drink.
A cup clinked somewhere in her memory, then a familiar pair of arms engulfed her into a hug as she buried her head into the shoulder, feeling more at peace than she had in 5 years, in her mother's arms.

"She cut the call on me," Pinky said as she placed her mobile phone onto the dining table.
Yash's hand curled over hers. "You need to tell her about the application, Pinky."
She sighed, looking out of the window as evening set in. "I know."
Awesome update... 👍🏼
