Hello my dear Ariya fans, hope everyone is well.

Well here it is, I was supposed to post this OS before the weekend, but it just didn't feel right the way I had written it, so I had to put it aside and come back to it. I finally finished it and have it as I pictured it in my head. Hope you guys like it.

Thanks again everyone for the likes and comments on my very first Ariya OS. All comments were touching and heartwarming.

Part 2

Riya dropped her bag on the sofa as soon as she walked into the house then sat down beside it to relax her head against the sofa. This had to be the worst birthday she had ever had and wondered if she did the right thing by rejecting Shree's offer to paint the town red. It would have been nice to go to some club and have a drink or two in celebration.

Who are you kidding Riya, you would have been just as miserable partying because the one person who could have made a difference today doesn't even realize how much you have come to love him. He didn't even know it is your birthday today.

Riya shot up from her seat to get rid of her depressing thoughts. She has had enough of feeling sorry for herself; her father cancelling on her was the last straw. And as far as her mother was concerned, sending Riya flowers and wishing her happy birthday over the phone was enough to get over the guilt trip of not paying attention to her eldest child.

She was about to go into her room when the doorbell chimed loudly in the silence of the house. Riya frowned and wondered who it could be and hoped that Shree hadn't ignored her request of not celebrating her birthday.

Riya swung open the door and immediately regretted not checking to see who it was before opening it. She eyed the 5 foot 9 inch man, dressed in charcoal gray, three-piece suit, holding dozen red roses in his arms and raised her eyebrow. "What are you doing here Raj?"

He thrust the red roses at her, "Happy birthday Riya." He waited for her to step aside so he could come into her house but she refused to budge. Inviting her ex-fianc into her home is same as inviting trouble.

Raj and she had met in college and dated each other exclusively until he learned that Riya and her father were estranged from each other. Raj aspired to be a business tycoon and thought dating and marrying the daughter of one the most influential man in the business world would buy him ticket into the business world.

Riya had been devastated at the time but then realized she had fallen into the relationship out of habit. She had wanted to be loved and thought that Raj loved her but truth had been bitter pill to swallow.

She didn't know how he met her stepsister but now he is engaged to her and she didn't want to have anything to do with Raj. Last week if the ETF team's cover hadn't been in jeopardy she would have ignored the fact that her mother and former fianc were in the same hotel.

Before Riya could push the flowers back in his arms another car screeched to halt in front of her house and Riya groaned inwardly when she saw her mother and stepsister step out of the car. It seemed Riya's week of misery was about to take the turn for the worst.

Arjun sped through the streets of Mumbai, feeling the wind on his face, a sensual smile on his lips at the thought of what he was about to do. He was getting ready to live his life again.

He had missed all the things related to loving someone, with being with someone. Riya and Roshni were complete opposite of each other and Roshni will always have a place in the corner of his heart, but now Riya owned the bigger portion of his heart and he couldn't wait to start his new life with her.

He had put Roshni to rest as soon as Sikandar was found and taken care of but he hadn't let her go completely either until a week ago. He had said his final goodbyes to his first love and made a vow to move forward with the person who brought him back to life. He had so much to make up for where Riya was concerned and he hoped that he had many years with her to make up for the hurt he caused her.

Arjun rounded the corner to Riya's house and stopped behind a small white care. He took the package he brought with him and walked towards her house only to come to stop short distance away when he realized Riya had company.

His hand clenched in anger when he saw a young girl pull her hand back and slap Riya across her right cheek while the elder woman and the man that had been with Riya last week stared at the duo open mouthed.

Riya felt the slap across her cheek before she even opened her mouth to reason with her stepsister, she felt the tears threaten in her eye but bit the inside of her mouth to keep them at bay.

Riya looked over her sister, Tanisha's, shoulder to see Arjun standing behind her stepsister, hands clenched on the bag he held in his hand and his eyes full of anger. Riya closed her eyes as she realized he was witness to her humiliation.

Arjun waited for Riya to react but when she finally did it was only to close her eyes and take few deep breaths, he had expected her to get angry but she was calm as she could be.

Riya did her best to compose herself, opened her eyes and focused at a point beyond the four people standing in front of her. "Ma, please take Tanisha home and see to it that neither she nor Raj comes anywhere near me again. I didn't invite him here, he came on his own and if she doesn't trust him then she needs to rethink on her decision to marry him."

When Arjun realized that the three people in front of Riya did not move he walked closer to the group and stood next to Riya. "I think you should do what Riya asked and leave."

The man on the other side of Riya opened his mouth to speak but one look from Arjun made him move towards his fianc quickly to take her arm. Tanisha glared at Riya and walked away, Riya's mother and Raj also followed Tanisha.

Riya waited until they were gone then turned towards Arjun. "What are you doing here sir? Did I forget to do something?"

Arjun thought Riya looked too calm and decided to alter his plan a little. "No you didn't forget anything. I need your help in one of the old unsolved case."

Riya looked at him skeptically, "My help, really? Are you sure I will be efficient enough for you?"

Arjun's eyes softened at her question. "You are perfect for me, I mean for the job," he corrected himself quickly, "as a matter of fact no one else can handle this job." Or me, he thought to himself.

Riya was still unsure but opened her door wider and stepped back. "Please come in sir, I will just be one minute."

Arjun stepped in and closed the door. "Riya wait," he said to her as she started to walk away, he held out the package. "You have to put this on."

Riya looked at the package in his hand and frowned. "What is it sir?" She asked bit apprehensively. She hoped it wasn't some skimpy dress or a costume.

Arjun wanted to grin at her expression, she held herself back as if he was asking her to hold a snake or something. "Just go wear it and I will explain everything to you after we get where we need to go."

Riya took the package and left the main hall; Arjun turned to look at Riya's home. He wasn't surprised by the neatness or cleanliness of the place. He just shook his head at her obsession with hygiene. She would probably faint if he took her for walk on the beach so he cancelled the idea of taking her for a ride on his bike at the beach.

He knew she wished for him to take her on ride on his bike and he was about to fulfill one of her wishes.

Riya opened the package with a feeling of unease; she tore the package quickly and was perplexed by what she saw when she opened the box.

The box held a sheer black sari with silver border, it was simple yet elegant and it had sleeveless blouse, the edges lined with the same silver border as the sari. She swallowed nervously when she saw the back part of the blouse; it only had two hooks at the bottom and strings to tie at the top.

Riya stared at the sari then glanced at her bedroom door wondering if she should ask him the reason for the sari then shrugged her shoulders, knowing he wouldn't answer her anyway. She decided to change into the sari and not waste time. The sooner she helps him the sooner she can come home again.

Fifteen minutes later Riya walked out of her room, she had repaired her make up and left her hair tied in a ponytail at the nape of her neck. Arjun had his back to her and Riya couldn't help but admire his well-built body in the black suit. His usual choice of color when it comes to formal wear; black slacks with black shirt with three top buttons undone and a matching black blazer.

Riya preferred him in his signature long sleeve shirts and well-fitting jeans. His longer than usual hair and stubbles of his beard made him look even more handsome in his casual clothes. Her heart always skips a beat when she sees him in the attire every morning.

"Arjun sir?" he turned at Riya's voice and froze when he saw her dressed in his gift. She looked just as he had imagined her in the sari. It enhanced her full figure and showed off just enough of her attributes to drive him crazy.

Riya's breath whooshed out at the look in his eyes but she quickly controlled her reaction. She did not want to get her hopes up where Arjun was concerned. Desire is not same as love. "Shall we go sir?"

Arjun walked towards her slowly and stopped about an inch away from her to gaze into her eyes. For a long moment neither said anything and just stared into each other's eyes to read the emotions in them. Riya could not understand the look in Arjun's eyes and he read the confusion and uncertainties in hers.

He lifted his hand to her neck without breaking away from her gaze and pulled the band that held her hair. Her silky strands cascaded down her back completing the look he had imagined her in, sexy and sultry.

"Now it's perfect." He said softly. He stepped back quickly before she became suspicious of his behavior.

He waited for her to lock the door then walked towards his bike. "I hope you are okay with riding on my bike, I came straight from home and didn't stop at ETF offices to pick up a SUV.

Riya's heart picked up a beat at the thought of riding with him on his bike. She had waited for long time for him to ask her but had given up hope as of last week.

Riya shrugged her shoulders carelessly. "It's fine sir." She waited for him to start the bike and then sat behind him sideways. There was no space between his bike and her shoulder. She held on to the silver rack at the back of the seat for support.

Arjun pulled the bike on to the road and drove slowly at first to make her comfortable, but as he felt the wind on his face he also wanted to feel her arms around him. He took a curve just sharply enough for her to place her hand on his shoulder and as he saw the light ahead turn red he braked just little too forcefully for her to crash into his back.

He smiled when her hand tightened on his shoulder. As they rode through the rough roads of the city, Riya wondered where they were heading and why. She didn't question him and just enjoyed the ride on the bike that she had always wanted. She wanted to shout out in joy as she felt the wind on her face. She relaxed as the time passed and never realized she had her arm around him instead of his shoulder.

Riya came back to herself as he stopped the bike in front of a high rise building in new Mumbai. She quickly removed her arm and got off the bike. She glanced at the building then at him. "Sir, are you going to tell me about the case and why we are here?"

Arjun raised an eyebrow and smiled, "I am surprised you held on as long as you did to ask me about the case Riya."

"May be it is the lateness of the day or what you witnessed earlier sir, that is causing me to slow down a bit." Riya said looking away from his magnetizing gaze.

"May be," Arjun murmured. He took her hand in his and led her inside the building and straight to the elevators. Riya didn't question him further and let him lead the way.

They got off the elevators on the 12th floor; he lead her down the hall to the last door and opened the door with a key pulled out of his coat pocket.

Arjun led her inside then closed and locked the door. He leaned back against the door with arms across his chest observed Riya as she looked around his new flat. She has not yet realized that he brought her to his home.

Riya looked at what seemed to be brand new furnishing in the place; it was plain but tasteful, there were no pictures on the wall or any personal artifacts just the new furnishing and flowerpot on the side table. She walked toward the set of doors that lead to the balcony, perhaps, but stopped half way and turned towards Arjun.

"Whose home is this sir?" She asked, desperately wanting to know what he was up to.

"It's mine Riya." He said.

Riya's eyes widened in surprise and before she could ask him any more questions he walked towards her. "There is no case Riya, I brought you here for the long overdue talk I wanted to have with you last week."

Riya moved away from him. "There is nothing to talk about sir, call it a temporary loss of sanity on both of our parts."

Arjun moved closer to her again and cupped her right cheek, "Happy birthday Riya." He ignored her other statement. "Will you celebrate your birthday with me?"

"I don't celebrate birthday's sir." She said without any emotions.

Arjun took a deep breath and chuckled. "Why did I think it would be easy to get you to relax with me after what I did to you last week?"

Riya didn't say anything just looked down at the floor and hid her real feelings from him. Arjun leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead then stepped back. "Why don't you go check out the balcony, I will be right out with something to drink for us."

Riya waited for him to leave the room and saw him walk towards, what she gathered, is the kitchen, and then tuned to walk out on to the balcony. Her breath caught at the view of the city from his balcony. She put her hands on the railing and gazed down at the people and the vehicles below and wondered why he brought her to his home.

She turned when she heard the balcony door open and close. He handed her the drink and clinked his glass against hers. "Happy birthday Riya," Riya gave a small smile and
took a sip of the fruity drink then turned back to gaze at the city in motion.

"Can I ask you something Riya?" Arjun said as leaned against the rail and faced her.

Riya turned and leaned her hip against the rail to look at him. She shrugged her shoulders. "Sure," she waited for him to ask her what he wanted to know.

Arjun kept watching her for a moment. "Why did you react the way you did when your stepsister slapped you? I expected you to give back as good as you got."

Riya looked away from him to glance down at her glass. "There was no point in being like her, she would have created more drama and it would have ended up with my mom jumping in and lecturing me on proper behavior and all."

Riya knew he would ask her why her mom would not have supported her and about her dad also. She turned towards the railing again, "My parents divorced when I was nine and for a while things were still the same. I spent my time between the two households for a while then settled down with my mom when school started and spent my holidays with my dad until they both got married again. My mom had to deal with her step kids and in order to not make them feel unwanted she basically started ignoring me and the fact her new husband and stepchildren resented me."

Riya reflected back on those years and how she had rebelled and fought with everyone, but no one had understood her then and they don't understand her now. "When my mom got tired of the whole thing she called my dad to come get me. He came but he wanted me to stay with my mom because his new wife was pregnant with twins and he did not have time to deal with my tantrums."

She remembered the fight between her parents and how she had realized on that day that her parents were no longer hers, to them she was a burden from their past, that they had to deal with. "They finally decided to place me in a boarding school; I spent one holiday with my mom and one with my dad but rest of the time was spent at boarding school until I joined college, after that I only saw my parents occasionally."

Arjun had stayed quiet as she told him about herself and he was beginning to realize how much pain Riya hides under her dimpled smile and he would have never known if hadn't witnessed what he had earlier on that night. "What about birthdays and special occasions?" he asked.

She shrugged her shoulders. "I haven't celebrated a birthday since I turned nine." Then she realized something and turned towards him. "Who told you it was my birthday today?"

"I am police officer Riya; I figured it out on my own." He teased, but she didn't smile and looked at him steadily. He relented, "I heard Shree mention it earlier, before you left the office." She nodded and turned back towards the view.

Arjun placed his glass on the side then took her glass and placed it beside his. He then turned her towards him and cupped her face. "So what do you say we celebrate your birthday today and every year from here on out?"

"Why?" Riya just couldn't figure out his motive in doing what he did. "You don't have to feel guilty about last week, like I said, file it under temporary insanity." Riya moved back slightly; Arjun released her face but kept his gaze locked on her so she could see he means what he is about to say to her.

"What if I don't want to? What if I told you that I was jealous of the fact that another man had his arm around you? What if I told you that I have fallen in love with you?" Myriad of emotions fleeted through her dark eyes, from surprise to improbable.

Arjun realized he needed to reassure Riya of his feelings for her. He moved close to her and looked down at the people on the street but his focus was on Riya. She told him about herself and how she grew up and it was time for him to open up to her about his past.

"I met Roshni through my family, ours was an arranged marriage but the instant we met each other we fell for each other. Our life had barely started when I lost her; we were together for a short time only." Arjun was relived to recall the moments spent with Roshni without the twig of pain he used to feel.

"I can't say how I would have reacted if she had died in any other way than the way she did, but losing her because of my own sense of justice made it more painful. Because of who I am she lost her life and I couldn't get over this until I found the person who killed her and dished out my own brand of justice, I owed it to her." He couldn't say he had felt the loss any less even after he avenged her death but it had given him peace knowing he had finally killed the person who killed his wife so brutally.

Riya recalled the day they had tracked down Sikandar and the way Arjun had been relentless until he was caught and killed. She had felt his pain that day but hadn't been able to do anything to take away his pain accept to stand beside him and offer him her silent support.

"After I dealt with Sikandar I was at peace but at the same time I realized I had nothing else left. Avenging Roshni kept me alive for a long time but after my revenge, her loss was greater than before. For days I thought about chucking it all and just walking away from everything but something kept preventing me from leaving. Something kept telling me to report to work every day, it was a while before I realized it was you that kept me rooted. Seeing your face and your infectious smile everyday made my day better and brighter." Arjun had felt as if he was betraying his wife at first but then he realized how sad Roshni would be to see him waste his life because of her.

It had taken Arjun months to come to the terms with the fact that he had fallen in love with Riya. His love for Roshni had been instant but with Riya it was a gradual and deeper. "It took me a while to realize that the reason seeing you made me feel better every day was because I had fallen in love with you but I still was not ready to accept this and fought it hard."

Riya's eyes widened in surprise as she looked at him, "yes you heard me right, I fell for you head over heels and did not even realize it until I saw some stranger touching what belonged to me only. I realized that day that you have a huge hold over me and wanted to prove to myself that it was not the truth; I wanted to prove to myself that you weren't the cause of my inability to leave ETF or the city and I lashed out at you to prove a point to myself but ended up hurting you in a way that I never meant to." Arjun had felt ashamed at himself crossing the limit and insulting her the way he had.

"I followed you home to apologize to you and to explain my reasons for hurting you but instead I ended up kissing you right in front of your door where any one of your neighbors could have seen us. I realized I was about to take advantage of you without explaining my feelings for you." Arjun had been lost to everything; only thing he had been aware of was how she felt in his arms and wanting to never let her go.

"I spent the week saying goodbye to my past and made plans to embrace my future. I sold the house that Roshni and I lived in and bought this flat to start fresh with you." Arjun cupped her face with both hands and leaned forward. When he was an inch away from her lips he spoke softly, "I love you Riya." He placed his lips on hers to give her a tender kiss that was full of love.

Riya closed her eyes as the tears floated down her face and placed her hands on his shoulders to kiss him back. It was a long moment before they pulled back and gazed into each other's eyes.

Arjun wiped her tears, "I am sorry for hurting you the way I did Riya. I guess I was afraid of loving someone again and losing that person so I kept pushing you away. I promise from today you will never be alone, you will always have me by your side."

Arjun pulled the ring out of his coat pocket and took her hand in his, "Riya Mukerjee, will you marry me so that I can celebrate your birthday with you every year from now on and because I love you so much that the thought of being away from you kills me."

Riya's eyes welled up again when she saw the ring and the love in his eyes. She couldn't verbalize how she felt at that moment to save her life. Her lifelong dream of being loved was finally coming true and all she could do was nod her head in yes.

Arjun chuckled, "I never thought I would leave you speechless Riya, I will have to mark this down for future because I know there won't be that many opportunities to leave you speechless after we are married."

Arjun took her hand and kissed the ring finger before placing the ring on her finger. It was a perfect fit, just like the two of them.

Riya threw herself in his arms and hugged him around the neck tightly still crying, but this time in joy. "I love you too sir,"

Arjun pulled back and looked at her in amusement, "Riya don't you think it's time you stopped calling me sir when we are not in work mode?"

Riya blushed when she realized she had called him sir in excitement, "What would you like me to call you when we are not in a work mode?"

Arjun tightened his arm around her waist and moved his hand up her bare back sensually, "anything, as long as it's not sir." He said and slammed his lips on to hers, taking the kiss to a whole new level.

Riya opened her mouth to give him access and kiss her deeper as she responded to the kiss. She felt shivers run down her spine when she felt him caressed her back gently. They were lost in pouring out their love for one another in a form a kiss.

It was a long time before they both came up for air then Arjun took her on a tour of his new home and they both made plans for their future.

At last both had found what they were seeking for a long time. Arjun had found the peace he had looked for since his wife died along with love again, and Riya had found the love she craved all her life and someone to belong to.

The End.
