Jam, say no thanks, please. I said only things you deserve. You've got amazing raw skills. You create beautiful & splendourous rainbows using minimum colours.. That is remarkable and praiseworthy. Yes, its a small flame. Protect it and grow it. One day it will engulf hearts of millions. I will not amaze that day for I believe that is not impossible for you.
Completing almost every work by evening, Sandhya sat in courtyard to cut vegetables for dinner.
'arrey kathe chale gaye sab log.?'-- Bhabho rushed to aangan screaming-- 'Tame kinna ho gaya? Ab nahin mandir jaaye to ke bhagwaan ji so jaane ke baad chalenge? Haye mhara raam ji... Vikrammm... Meenaaa... Mohittt... Chavi... Rey Chaveee...' (where have you all gone? Whats the time now? Are you coming temple after the God sleeps?)
Bhabho turned to Sandhya-- Beendni, aaloo ki sabji bana lo. Aur roti banane ke liye aatta bhi tayar karke rakh liyo. Mandir se aa kar hum dono bana lenge. Inne logon ke liye tu akeli na kar payegi. (prepare the dish with potato. And make dough for roti. We shall together make roti after I return. You may not be able to make them for these many people)
'Ji Bhabho'..-- Sandhya replied.
Mohit stepped in- 'Bhabho hum sub log taiyyar hai.' (Bhabho, we all are ready) Everyone walked out. Bhabho stopped & returned after reaching door.
She walked towards Sandhya and told-- 'sun, ghar mein koi aur nahin hai.. Sooraj toh dukan mein hai... Pata ni kis tarah ke log gali mohalle mein aate rahte hai..isliye sambhalke rahna...' (listen, no one else is here. Sooraj is busy at shop... We don't know what kind of people are there out. So be careful.)
'Ji Bhabho'. Sandhya replied.
'ek aur baat'-- Bhabho continued--...'subhah se ye kya shakal banake baithi hai jaise dharti thaare se diye huye aagya ki anusaar ghum ni rahi hai...? Aise baithne se kuch ni hone ko hai...apne beend ko jara paani pila dena...ni toh pyaaza mar jayega...' (one more thing. Why you look so annoyed as if the earth is revolving against your order.? Nothing will happen if you sit like this. Give your husband some water. Else he'll die thirsty) and she walked towards door murmuring-- 'haye mhara ram ji, karam phoot gayo mharo...'
Sandhya didn't say anything. She cut vegetables and made potato curry. After preparing dough for roti, she kept everything covered and sighed long...
Closing kitchen door, she stepped towards courtyard and sat near a pillar resting herself on it. Her disobedient curls lazily fallen through her cheeksides. The dark shades of night had already started falling. She didn't feel to turn on any lights. She felt her soul trapped in deep darkness. She slowly stretched her legs forward thinking what Sooraj did yesterday morning. She had it all in her mind; whatever she kept thinking whole yesterday... She was confused for not knowing if her thoughts were just only immature and funny? She kept asking herself the same, but couldn't find any answer. In the dark, deep wounds in her heart again started bleeding. They rushed up her eyes. After shining like diamonds, two drops rolled down her cheeks.
Suddenly Sooraj rushed in, running towards the stairs. He fell down in dark with the huge noice of metal bucket kept on the way.
'Sooraj ji'-- Sandhya screamed rushing towards him.
He somehow got up and managed to climb the stairs...
She went behind him towards their room. He was desperately searching for something all over there. Wiping out her teardrops being unnoticed, Sandhya asked--- 'kya hua Sooraj ji? Aap kya dhoond rahe hain?' (what happened? What are you searching?)
He didn't answer.
He stopped searching for a while and painfully looked at her. Her heart also got squeezed in pain by his gaze. She noticed his kurta had lost its two upper buttons. There were no extra kurtas as some were still not dried after washing and others were not ironed. Without asking any more things, she took thread box from her wardrobe. She opened it and selected two buttons, thread and a sewing nail. Reaching him, she pulled his collars together, and looked for positions of buttons. He neither said anything, nor stopped her; but got a little amazed by her sudden moves. A breeze flew through his heart cooling his thoughts. Biting one button, she fixed the other one in position and started sewing it.
Sooraj looked into her eyes which were busy in concentrating on sewing. He noticed dried tear drop channels stretched all length of her cheeks painted with deep red of pain... Sooraj's heart was craving to kiss away her sadness. He slowly put both his hands around her back, near to her waist, encircling her in them... He slowly pulled her more closer to him as soft as he was carrying a rose in his arms. She didn't try to resist him. She stopped sewing for a while, looked into his eyes and continued...
Leaning his head a little forward, Sooraj softly asked-- 'kya baat hai Sandhya ji...? Kya hua aap ko...? Yeh kaun sa dard hai jo aap ko pareshan kar rahi hai...?' (what is the matter Sandhya ji? What happened to you? Which pain is troubling you this much?)
She moved her head in negotiation and pointed her eyes towards the button she was biting. He did not say anything, but tightened his arms around her waist a little. After some seconds, she got done with first button and started working on the second.
Then he asked her again-- 'batayiye na Sandhya ji, kya hua?' (tell me...what happened?)
She was in dilemma whether to tell him or not. Though she knew he will not shout or scold, some unknown fear stopped her answering him. She was not knowing whether her thoughts were just a play of her age. They may be immature and silly. She completed fixing upper button also and broke the thread with her teeth. Her soft, lush hairs brushed his chin and her left eye kissed his throat. She raised her head and looked into his eyes. She saw pain and love together in them.
He gently shook his arms as if to wake her up and whispered-- 'ab toh batayiye na' (at least now tell me.)
'Kuch bhi nahin.' (nothing) she replied and walked away breaking his circle.
He caught her by palm and with all his love deep from his panic heart and soul, he painfully called her--- 'Sandhya...'. She stopped for a while sensing his pain reflected in his trembling voice. She turned back to his gloamy eyes.
'Sandhya'...he spoke... 'kya aap mujhe nahin batayegi kya hua aap ko..?' (won't you tell me what happened?)
She said looking down-- 'woh...woh Sooraj ji...aap...'
Sooraj asked again-- 'haan...batayiye na...aap mujhse naraaz kyon hai? Maine kya kiya' (yeah. Tell me. Why are you angry with me? What did I do?)
She moved closer to him saying-- 'woh..woh main aap se naaraz nahi hoon Sooraj ji...par...' (I'm not angry on you Sooraj ji.but)
'phir kya baat hai..?' Sooraj was getting more restless and flustered... 'kya hua Sandhya?' (then what is the matter? What happened?)
She thought for a while and decided to let her feelings out, to the only one she had in this world. From her aching heart, lump of pain moved towards her throat and got stucked there. Looking into his eyes, in slender, trembling voice, she spoke-- 'woh...woh...main aap se apni dil ki baat bata nahin paa rahi thi...woh..woh..' (I was becoming unable to let my heart speak to you)
All of a sudden, she broke into tears and hugged him putting her hands along both sides of his chest. It was so tight as if she was afraid of losing him for ever and she will never see him again...within no time his left shoulder and chest got soaked in her cascading, incessant love.. He spreaded his arms all around her...she was crying like a child, dipping her face between his chest and left arm...and she grumbled in clearless, trembling words-- 'woh...aap aisa hamesha kyon kar rahe hain Sooraj ji...? Nahin ho paa raha hai...nahin ho paa raha hai mujhse yeh sab...mujhe dard se zyaada dar lag raha hai Sooraj ji... Sooraj ji...' (why are you always doing like this Sooraj ji? I'm unable, I'm unable to be with these.rather than being in pain, I'm afraid Sooraj ji.. Sooraj ji...)
Her cry turned into sob. She was shedding her feelings like an afraid, insecured, lonely girl...he tightened his arms to make her feel secured... He softly caressed her right shoulder with his left palm. He didn't stop her crying. He wanted her to rain out everything and speak with clear heart... Her warm drops already made his heart cool for he knew nothing can hurt her in his arms... With a calm mind, he slowly moved his fingers through her long lush of hairs along their length...letting his warmth to dry away her tears, he softly kissed on her head, over her black, dense hairs, waiting for her to speak her heart...
