Chapter 6:

Sharon was very busy making arrangements for this fashion show that was going to be held in New York. She was busy designing and everything. She was at work all day, not taking calls and telling all the employees to work harder. Her friend from college entered her office. "Hey Sharr!!!" she called. "Not now Pritha. We'll go shopping later." Sharon said. "But Shar you promised!! Take a break for sometime." Pritha said. "I really can't come today. I have so much to do. Take Kria if you want." Sharon said. "Fine. But I had come to tell you that I'm getting engaged to someone soon." Pritha said. "Really? Congrats. To who?" Sharon asked. "That I won't tell you now. He's such an amazing person. I thought we could go shopping for dresses to wear to my engagement." Pritha said. "You, me and Kria will go later okay? Otherwise you and Kria go today, please?" Sharon asked, hiding the irritation. She hated it when someone came barging in when she was busy at work. Only Kria, Rey and her family were allowed to talk to her about going out and everything when she was at work. Pritha was a nice girl and everything but Sharon couldn't stand her at times. She was highly annoying. "But I.." Pritha started but Sharon cut her off. "Lemme guess. You lost Kria's number. It's okay. I'll call her for you." Sharon said. She knew she was being rude but Pritha gave the same lame excuse every single time. She dialed Kria's number. "Kri'I need your help..Please will you go shopping with Pritha?" Sharon asked, twisting the curls of her hair. Kria refused. "Me and alone. With Pritha. Are you out of your mind or something? No way." Kria said. "KRIAA!!! Why are you doing this to me?" Sharon asked. "Why can't you go with her?" Kria asked. "Because I have so much left to do before Fashion Week. The Fashion's show after a week. Please just go with her na? And listen to the good news. She's getting engaged. So after she gets married, she won't have enough time to hang out with us!" Sharon said, in a voice so low that only Kria could hear. "What? Really? She's getting engaged. And she'll be married soon. OMG! You gave me such wonderful news. Now I'll definitely go with her." Kria said. "You're the best bhabhi anyone could ever have, Kria Bhabhi." Sharon teased. "Shut up! You know I hate it when you call me bhabhi'c'mon we're the same age. We've been best friends for 11 years. Remember how we used to fight a lot during class and everything. Remember how you wanted to sit with Swayam instead of sitting with me?" Kria asked. Sharon's smile vanished. She remembered everything that had to do with him. But she shut the thought of him away. She tried her best. She knew that Kria didn't say it out wantedly. She was just remembering the best moments they had had in school. "Um'.Yea'I'." Sharon started, but she didn't finish. "SHARON!! Is she coming with me or not?" Pritha asked. Sharon thanked Pritha mentally for changing the atmosphere. "Yes yes, she is coming with you. Don't worry. Gosh, you can be so annoying sometimes." Sharon said. "Even when you get married, you'll know the excitement." Pritha said. "Yea, there's a long time for that." Sharon said. "You have to let me do my work now. Go to the mall. Kria will reach there soon." Sharon said. "Okay, bye babes." Pritha said, and left. Sharon sighed with relief. She tried concentrating on her work but her mind kept going back to the days which Kria had talked about.

Flashback:

Six months had passed since school had started.

It was like any other normal day. The only difference was that Sharon had gotten closer with Swayam. They acted like they had been best friends for years and always ran around like mad people hitting each other and talking random stuff like best friends did. Kria and Rey, for that matter had accepted their feelings for each other and they were together now. Sharon was getting annoyed by the way Rey and Kria acted lovey-dovey around her. They could never take their eyes off each other and though Sharon found it adorable, she pretended that she didn't like them acting like lovestruck people.

During lunch, Kria cuddled into Rey. Sharon and Swayam looked at each other and shook their heads. "Guys! Stop it!!" Sharon told. "What is your problem, Sharu?" Rey asked. "My dear brother, will you please stop your PDA and concentrate on your lunch. Look, they have your favorite chocolate milkshake. Drink it fast otherwise I'm gonna take it." Sharon said. "Don't you dare do that? Then I'll never help you ask anything to Mom." Rey said. "Omg! Swayam help me. Rey bhaiya's threatening me." Sharon said, pretending to be scared. "Sharon Singhania. You are so dead." Rey said, and got up. Sharon got up too and ran as fast as she could. Rey ran behind her and they ran like Tom and Jerry. Swayam and Kria looked at them and shook their heads. "I don't know what to do with them." Kria said. "Neither do I." Swayam said. Then the bell rang indicating the end of lunch. They had to go their own schools.

During French, they had combined class. Sharon always waited for French because she loved helping Swayam when he got the sentences wrong. Sharon entered class. She waved to Rey who was sitting behind Kria. She looked at Swayam. He waved at her and gestured to her to come sit next to him with a pleading look on his face. "Kria, I'm going over there." Sharon said. Kria turned back to see where Sharon wanted to sit. And Kria glared at Sharon but in a cute way. "Hey Kri. C'mon!!!!!!!!!!!! You know that he doesn't know French that well and I have to help him." Sharon said. "Yea, but you always sit with me." Kria pretended to be upset. "But we are roommates. We can talk in our dorm room." Sharon said. "You're right. Fine go sit with your boyfriend." Kria said, shaking her head. "Excuse me Ms.Kria Ghai. But he is not my boyfriend. We're just good friends." Sharon said. "Yea yea!! But when he comes to know about your crush'." Kria started but Sharon cut her off. "Shut up. Rey doesn't know about this. And if he comes to know, then he'll make my life hell at home. So just stop. And we'll talk about this later." Sharon said, and went to sit near Swayam.

"Hey." Swayam said, when Sharon sat beside him. "Hey. So why did you ask me to come sit next to you suddenly?" Sharon asked, trying to hide the excitement. "Do you want a reason? Coz I don't have one." Swayam said, looking surprised at Sharon's question. They were good friends so why did he have to give her a reason? Sharon blushed at his comment. "Wait, are you blushing?" Swayam asked. Sharon turned to face him. "No way, I was just thinking about this joke and I was smiling." Sharon said. Before Swayam could say anything, the teacher entered. "So today, we're going to have a surprise test on Grammar. So get ready." The teacher said. "You don't say!" Swayam said. "Hey, chill. You know everything in grammar." Sharon said. "Yea, but this surprise test? If it was any other subject, I would be chillin but it's French. I don't know French." Swayam said. "Still. I'm here to help you." Sharon said. "Yea I'm counting on you." Swayam said. Both of them smiled while the teacher gave the papers. It was a very simple test and Swayam could answer the questions himself, thanks to Sharon's tutoring every weekend.

After class, Sharon and Swayam went out and waited for Kria and Rey to come out. While they were waiting, Swayam took Sharon in a bone-crashing hug. Sharon was shocked by this action of his. When he let go, Sharon asked him the reason for this sudden reaction. "That was the best test I've ever written in my life. Thanks for tutoring me Sharon. I really enjoy being and learning with you." Swayam said. "Really? You like being with me?" Sharon asked. "Yes really you are the best friend anyone could ever have." Swayam said. Only best friend. What was I thinking? That he likes me more than a best friend? That can never happen. Sharon faked a smile to hide her disappointment because he had used the word "BEST FRIEND" They waited for some more time. Then Swayam looked at his watch. "OMG! I gotta leave. I have another test in Math. So bye. See you soon." Swayam said. Saying this, he kissed Sharon on the cheek and left her amused. "Bye!" she said, but he had run off to his school. Sharon kept looking at him even after he disappeared into the campus. Wait. What just happened?? But she kept blushing the whole time and looked like a fool just standing there day dreaming. Meanwhile, Rey and Kria came out. "Shar! How was your test??" Kria asked, interrupting her thoughts. When did they come? Did they see anything? "It was awesome. Like always. How was yours?" Sharon asked. "It was fine. I think I made a mistake in articles. Instead of writing de I wrote une. I totally forgot that we have to use de in negative sentence." Kria said. "it's okay chill. It's only one mark." Rey said. "It's okay for you. But not for me. Seriously, I always make the same mistake." Kria said. Rey just shrugged. "I have to go to Phy Lab now.Bye girls!" Rey said, and went to his campus.

"Tell me what happened. You're acting like your not in this world." Kria said. "Huh? What?? I'm totally fine. Just'" Sharon started. "It's okay. We're getting late for the next class. Tell me what happened in our dorm room." Kria said. Sharon just shrugged. If I tell Kria then I'm gonna have to listen to a million things about Swayam being a bad guy and everything. So better don't tell her Sharon. They went to their next class. After school, Sharon went to her dorm room and just lay on the bed because she was so tired. Kria hadn't come yet. Sharon took out her notebook and started drawing some designs of outfits. She had this aim to become a fashion designer and she knew that she would become a well- known fashion designer if she worked hard. Kria came in and asked her what she was doing. "Um'nothing much.." Sharon said. "OMG! You drew these? They are awesome Shar!!!!! Why didn't you show this to me before?" Kria asked. "Well'.I took this book from my bag after so many days. Tell me which design you like?" Sharon asked. Kria flipped through the pages and found one which she really loved. "This ones so pretty. I absolutely adore tops with frilly sleeves. But I don't have one." Kria said. "This one's my favorite too. Don't worry. You'll get one soon." Sharon said. Kria looked confused. "What do you mean?" Kria asked. "Nothing, nothing at all." Sharon said.

At night, they did their homework like they did everyday. "I'm exhausted. I'm going to sleep. Good night Shar!!" Kria said, and jumped on her bed and went to sleep. Sharon still had a lot of homework to do, thanks to her amazing schedule. A day never went by without Sharon doing till late night. Sharon leant back on her chair and looked out the window. She saw the light in Swayam and Rey's dorm room still on. She noticed the outline of a person standing near the window. It has to be Swayam. Rey always goes to sleep at 10. He doesn't care about the amount of homework he has to do. Just then, her phone beeped. A text from Swayam. Her heart raced as she opened the text.

Didn't sleep yet? 'Swayam.

She replied back almost immediately.

No..Tons of homework. 'Shar

Okay. What homework? ' Swayam.

Vector Algebra. Why haven't you slept yet?- Shar

Not sleepy. Vectors? OMG! I totally forgot. I have hw in that too.- Swayam.

Then go and complete it.- Shar.

Err'.I don't know how to do it..:P 'Swayam

What were you doing in class? :O ' Shar

Well, I had BB practice..so'Can you tutor me sweetie? :) - Swayam

Did he just call her sweetie?

Tomorrow morning. 6:30. We'll meet at our bench near the caf. 'Shar.

Oh..tomorrow? ' Swayam

Yea. Let me complete my homework. BYEEE!!!!!!- Shar.

They stopped texting and Sharon dozed off unknowingly while doing homework. She rested her head on the table and went off to sleep. She could hear faint beeps. She knew it was someone texting her. But she was too lazy to take the phone. She also heard it ring a few times. But she didn't answer it.

"SHARONN!!!" Kria screamed. Sharon woke up with a jolt. "What?? Why are you screaming in the middle of the night?" Sharon asked, clearly terrified. "Either you switch off your phone or you answer the calls. Please, just let me sleep." Kria said. "Okay. Okay." Sharon said, and switched off her cell without even looking at who had called or texted. Next morning, she woke up and realized that she hadn't slept on the bed. She switched on her mobile and looked at the time. 6:15. I'll just sleep for some more time. She rested her head on the table again but then she woke up suddenly remembering something. OMG!!! Sharon!! How can you forget?? You have to meet Swayam in 15 minutes. Oh no! How can I forget???

She looked at all the missed calls and texts.

All were from Swayam.

He had sent texts from 11:30 p.m. till 1:30 a.m.

Sweetie? You still up? 'Swayam

SharoN! I can see that the light is still on.- Swayam.

Come down. I'm waiting.-Swayam

Sharon!! Come out!! -Swayam

Sharonn!!!! 'Swayam

Are you not answering wantedly?- Swayam

Sharieee!!! ' Swayam

Sharuuu!!- Swayam

Sharie doll!! Are you coming out or not? ' Swayam

Fine. Don't expect me to talk to you tomorrow. *angry face* -Swayam

Sharon read all the texts. Great. Now he is mad at her. And why the hell did he ask her to come down at midnight anyway?

Sharon got ready, put on her jeans and top and went to help Swayam with homework. She prayed that he should be there. Like he had said, he was waiting in their usual meeting place. "Good morning." Sharon said casually but everytime she went near Swayam, she felt her heartbeat increase. Sharon tried hard to control her feelings but she just couldn't. Swayam looked at Sharon and then looked away. "HEY!!" Sharon said. "Can't you see? I don't want to talk to you!" Swayam said. "Then how do you expect me to tutor you?" Sharon asked. "I'm going back." Swayam said. "Then why did you come in the first place?" Sharon asked. "Well'Well'" Swayam said, searching for answers. Swayam got up and came and stood in front of her, crossing his arms across his chest. "Apologize to me." Swayam said. "Wh..What??" Sharon asked, chuckling. "You didn't answer any of my calls last night." Swayam said. "You didn't come to see me. So apologize." Swayam said. "Hey'I slept okay? I don't ignore you wantedly." Sharon said. I could never ignore you. "still you apologize!" Swayam said. Sharon sighed. She knew that Swayam wasn't going to give up easily. She made a puppy dog face and apologized kaan-pakadke. "I'm sorry Swayam. Please forgive me." Sharon said. "Hmm..Promise me that you'll always come to see me when I call you." Swayam said. "Okay! Okay! I will. Promise." Sharon said. Swayam smiled that amazing smile of his. He took a step towards Sharon and her heart raced faster. He started tickling her hard. "OMG! Swwwaaayyyaaammm!! Stttoooppp!!! Swwwaaayy!! Pllleeeaaaseee''..!!!!!!" Sharon screamed, but it failed. Swayam continued to tickle her. After sometime, they sat down to study. "I'm going to take revenge for this." Sharon said. "We'll see." Swayam said, confidently. Sharon shook her head.

Present:

Sharon was smiling thinking of all the fun she had with Swayam that day and then suddenly she realized that she had gone into her own world instead of doing her work. She opened a drawer of her desk and took out a framed photo. She faked a smile seeing it. "Why? Swayam, why did you leave me and go away'you went'just.. because..." she sniffed. "You didn't even think once about what I would do without you? You never thought about our 11 year relationship?" Sharon said, and kept the photo back and let the tears flow.
