Thanks asr13 for your lovely words 😊 I have stayed in lucknow for 2 years and so I have some idea about the dialect of that place. however, I constantly rack my brains about this place called Sheesh Mahal as I've never come across it during my stay LOL!

Don't worry, I'll definitely keep you updated dear!

Chapter 4 Scene 3

[AR Designs office, Arnav's cabin]

"So Miss. Khushi Kumari Gupta," Arnav starts off immediately, his polite tone barely concealing the laughter in his voice, "what can I do for you?" He's no doubt amused at seeing Khushi's commanding presence.

"Jo karna tha woh to aap kar hi chuke hain. Ab aur kuch karna baki reh gaya hai kya?" Khushi immediately launches on the offensive. Arnav looks taken aback.

"What the-?"

"What the to aise keh rahe hain jaise ki aapko pata hi nahin hum kis bare mein baat kar rahe hain." Arnav is sure he doesn't need to ask Khushi as she'd continue all by herself. And sure enough -

"Ye kya naya naatak hai? Aapne Jeeja ji se kyun kaha ki jeeji ghar wapis nahin aa sakti?"

Arnav goes still; all traces of humor washed away from him in an instant and a deadpan look appears on his face. He slowly sits on the edge of his table and folds his arms, warily observing this agitated version of Khushi.

"Humein ghoor kya rahe hain?" Khushi suddenly asks him. Oh this is going to be interesting. Arnav merely crooks his head at an angle not answering her.

"Hum abhi Aakash ji se mil kar aa rahe hain. Unhone humein bataya ki Jeeji ko wapis aane se unhone nahin roka hai." Hmm.. so Aakash spilled the beans? "Unhe humein kuch batane ki zaroorat bhi nahin padi. Humein usi waqt samajh aa gaya tha ki ye zaroor aapka hi kiya dharaya hoga." Khushi accuses him, her voice rising steadily. Ok, she is really pissed off. Arnav's is not used to being shouted at but he doesn't retort.

"Aap saabit kya karna chahte hain iss sab se? Ki ye duniya aapke ishaaron par chalti hai? Ki aap kitne mahaan hain?" Khushi seems to be on fire and there is absolutely no stopping her. Meeting her after such a long time and ending up fighting. Ahh Khushi, I did not want this meeting to go this way!

"Awaz neeche, Khushi," Arnav cautions her. "Ye mat bhulo ki tum mere hi office mein, mere hi cabin mein, bina appointment ke khadi hokar mujh pe hi chilla rahi ho." But somehow the warning has no effect on her as she gets angrier.

"HAAN TO? Kya karenge aap? Jaise humari jeeji ko ghar se nikal diya waise humein bhi apne office se nikaal denge?" she challenges him. Arnav crooks his eyesbrow as if silently asking her. Are you daring me to throw you out?

"Hum kabhi soch bhi nahi sakte the ki jis baat ki dhamki dekar aapne humse contract poora karwaya, ek din usi dhamki to poora bhi kar denge," Khushi says vehemently. Arnav flinches. No, Khushi don't go there. "Humne to apna contract poora kar diya tha na Arnavji, fir aapko ye sab karne ki kya zaroorat pad gai?"

"Khushi tum contract ke bare mein baat kyun kar rahi ho?" he asks her exasperatedly.

"KYUN NA KAREIN?" Khushi shouts at him. "Shaadi to aapke liye ek mazaak hi hai na?" Arnav looks at her in shock and unfolds his arms. He is at a loss of words now.

"Kyun jataya the humse ki aapke liye un reeti riwajon ka koi matlab hai? Woh sab jhooth mooth ka dikhawa karne ki kya zaroorat thi aapko?" He clenches his fists as he absorbs Khushi's words. His jawline hardens. This conversation was no longer about her sister. Finally her anger for that night was coming out; the anger that she had been suppressing for all this time was getting vented out.

"Phele bhi aapke liye shadi ka koi matlab nahin tha jab aapne gusse mein aakar humse 6 mahine ki shaadi ki," Khushi continues relentlessly. "Aur fir jab sach mein shaadi karne ki baari aayi to mandap se uth ke chale gaye. Jab mann kiya rishta tod diya, aur jab mann kiya wapis aa gaye ki chalo mandir mein chalkar shaadi kar lete hain. Aur fir kuch hi minute mein, apna woh iraada bhi badal diya! Shaadi aapke liye ek mazaak nahin to aur kya hai?"

Khushi finally hits a nerve in Arnav and he can't restrain himself any longer. He launches himself on her and grabs her arms in an iron grip. She winces in the sudden pain that shoots through her body. Arnav pulls her really close.

"MAIN WAPIS AAYA THA Damnit!" Arnav thunders back at her. Blood is rushing to his head and it's now pounding hard. They stare at each other, waves of anger emanating from both of them. He is correct in reminding her but it seems to enrage her further. She struggles and roughly shrugs off his hands from her arms.

"TO HUM PAR EHSAAN KIYA?" Khushi's bellows, each of her word dripped in fury. Arnav freezes, his eyes wide open hearing her words. He takes a tentative step back. He realises that right now he is scared of Khushi. She immediately starts walking towards him. It's like the hunter is becoming the hunted.

"Kitni badi meherbaani ki hum par, hai na Mr. Raizada?" Khushi's eyes are spiked with angry tears which she wipes off roughly. "Wapis aaye bhi to kya kehne? Ki hum apni Amma se saare rishte tod den?" Arnav's eyes are ablaze again at her mention of her mother. They stare down at each other. Unknowingly Khushi has walked very close to Arnav. Their faces are merely inches apart. There is so much heat being generated between them that it a flammable material can get ignited.

"Hum soch rahe the ki aapse poochenge ki aapki himmat kaise hui. Par himmat to aap mein bahut hai. Tabhi to jo aapke mann mein aata hai aap wohi kehte hain aur wohi karte hain!" Khushi seethes.

Arnav suddenly whips Khushi around in a complete circle. She ends up against the table with Aranv's arms on either side of her, blocking her. He leans towards her, his voice dangerously low. "Haan Khushi main wohi karta hun, jo mujhe theek lagta hai." Khushi's breathing quickens. She looks down at his arms firmly keeping her enveloped and then looks back up into his anger filled eyes.

"Aur agar usse kisi ko dukh pahunche to?" Arnav's breathing slows down. His eyes look searchingly into Khushi's. She continues breathlessly. "Yahan Aakash ji khush nahin hain," Arnav realises she has smoothly brought him back to his sister's topic again. "Wahan ghar pe jeeji ro rahi hain. Buaji bhi dukhi hain. Ye sab karke sabko dukh ho raha -"

"Tumhari maa ko bhi?" the words are out of Arnav's mouth before he can stop himself. Khushi stops midway through her sentence taken aback. His sarcastic question leads to a momentary curiosity in his eyes. She stares at the change in his demeanor. Realization slowly creeps into Khushi's mind.

Arnav's feeling of triumph subsides as immediately as it had unexpectedly risen. Suddenly he releases the cage of his arms from her side and stands upright. His eyes meet Khushi's. She looks wounded by hearing his question. Arnav's heart almost stops seeing her reaction. Oh no... what did I say?

"Khushi..." Arnav says softly, all anger evaporated from his persona. She raises her hand again indicating him to stop saying another word. As seconds stretch into minutes, they both silently stare at each other; Arnav's regretful eyes locked with Khushi's hurt ones.

"Ye sab aapne Amma ko dikhane ke liye kiya?" Her voice is very low. A cold feeling runs down his spine as he realises what he has done. He suddenly feels panicky; he can bear Khushi ranting and yelling at him, but he can't bear to see her like this. "Hum aapse kuch pooch rahe hain Arnavji," Khushi persists. Finally, he bows his head unable to meet her eyes. She gets her answer.

"Kya aap sach mein humse bahut pyaar karte hain, Arnavji?" her next question catches him completely off guard. He looks up at her with shocked eyes. He is startled to see her moist eyes and he knows she is on the verge of breaking down. It feels like someone has gripped his heart very tightly. He immediately moves towards her. Her voice, her pain, he can't see her like this. Hold her right now, comfort her, apologize to her. No don't cry Khushi please. Oh God, I'm such an idiot!

"Khushi..." he whispers again, and he extends his hand towards her.

But Khushi steps back from him. She closes her eyes tightly for a brief moment. Then she clenches her fist and looks up at Arnav's horror-struck face. She says in a broken voice, "Aapne aaj saabit kar diya, ki Arnav Singh Raizada kabhi nahin badal sakta." And she turns around and walks out of Arnav's cabin, leaving him standing alone, his outstretched hand holding nothing but air.

[AR Designs office, Arnav's cabin]

"So Miss. Khushi Kumari Gupta," Arnav starts off immediately, his polite tone barely concealing the laughter in his voice, "what can I do for you?" He's no doubt amused at seeing Khushi's commanding presence.

"You already did what you had to. Is something else left to do now?" Khushi immediately launches on the offensive. Arnav looks taken aback.

"What the-?"

"You're saying What the as if you have no clue what I'm talking about." Arnav is sure he doesn't need to ask Khushi as she'd continue all by herself. And sure enough -

"What is this new drama? Why did you tell Jeejaji that Jeeji is not to return to your house?"

Arnav goes still; all traces of humor washed away from him in an instant and a deadpan look appears on his face. He slowly sits on the edge of his table and folds his arms, warily observing this agitated version of Khushi.

"What are you staring at me for?" Khushi suddenly asks him. Oh this is going to be interesting. Arnav merely crooks his head at an angle not answering her.

"I just met Aakashji. He told me it isn't him who has decided that jeeji won't return ." Hmm.. so Aakash spilled the beans? "He didn't need to elaborate anything further. I immediately understood this must be your doing." Khushi accuses him, her voice rising steadily. Ok, she is really pissed off. Arnav's is not used to being shouted at but he doesn't retort.

"What do you want to prove by doing all this? That this world works on your decisions? That you are such a great person?" Khushi seems to be on fire and there is absolutely no stopping her. Meeting her after such a long time and ending up fighting. Ahh Khushi, I did not want this meeting to go this way!

"Keep your voice down, Khushi," Arnav cautions her. "Don't forget that you are in my office, in my cabin, without an appointment and shouting at me." But somehow the warning has no effect on her as she gets angrier.

"SO WHAT? What will you do? The way you've thrown my sister out of your home, you'll throw me out of here too?" she challenges him. Arnav crooks his eyesbrow as if silently asking her. Are you daring me to throw you out?

"I could never imagine that the one thing which you threatened me for, to complete the contract, one day you'll actually do something like it," Khushi says vehemently. Arnav flinches. No, Khushi don't go there. "But I did finish my contract, didn't I Arnavji. They what was the need for all this?"

"Khushi why are you talking about the contract?" he asks her exasperatedly.

"WHY SHOULDN'T I?" Khushi shouts at him. "Isn't marriage a joke to you?" Arnav looks at her in shock and unfolds his arms. He is at a loss of words now.

"Why did you show that those rituals had any meaning for you? What was the need of trying to convince me of your fake beliefs?" He clenches his fists as he absorbs Khushi's words. His jawline hardens. This conversation was no longer about her sister. Finally her anger for that night was coming out; the anger that she had been suppressing for all this time was getting vented out.

"You thought marriage was a joke when you first married me for 6 months," Khushi continues relentlessly. "And when the time came to actually marry me, you walked away from the mandap. Whenever you felt like, you broke the relation and whenever you wanted, you came back saying let's get married in the temple. And then changed that decision too in a matter of minutes! Tell me, isn't marriage a joke for you?"

Khushi finally hits a nerve in Arnav and he can't restrain himself any longer. He launches himself on her and grabs her arms in an iron grip. She winces in the sudden pain that shoots through her body. Arnav pulls her really close.

"I CAME BACK FOR YOU DAMNIT!" Arnav thunders back at her. Blood is rushing to his head and it's now pounding hard. They stare at each other, waves of anger emanating from both of them. He is correct in reminding her but it seems to enrage her further. She struggles and roughly shrugs off his hands from her arms.

"SO DID YOU DO ME A FAVOUR?" Khushi's bellows, each of her word dripped in fury. Arnav freezes, his eyes wide open hearing her words. He takes a tentative step back. He realises that right now he is scared of Khushi. She immediately starts walking towards him. It's like the hunter is becoming the hunted.

"what an act of kindness you did, right Mr. Raizada?" Khushi's eyes are spiked with angry tears which she wipes off roughly. "You came back to say what? That I break all ties with my mother?" Arnav's eyes are ablaze again at her mention of her mother. They stare down at each other. Unknowingly Khushi has walked very close to Arnav. Their faces are merely inches apart. There is so much heat being generated between them that it a flammable material can get ignited.

"I was thinking I'll ask you how could you dare to say something like that to me. But then I realised, you are very daring. That is why you say whatever you want to and do whatever you want to!" Khushi seethes.

Arnav suddenly whips Khushi around in a complete circle. She ends up against the table with Aranv's arms on either side of her, blocking her. He leans towards her, his voice dangerously low. "Yes Khushi I do whatever I feel is correct." Khushi's breathing quickens. She looks down at his arms firmly keeping her enveloped and then looks back up into his anger filled eyes.

"And what if someone feels hurt by your action?" Arnav's breathing slows down. His eyes look searchingly into Khushi's. She continues breathlessly. "Aakashji is unhappy here," Arnav realises she has smoothly brought him back to his sister's topic again. "At home, jeeji is crying. Buaji is upset as well. This decision is making everyone hurt -"

"Even your mother?" the words are out of Arnav's mouth before he can stop himself.

"You did this to hurt Amma?" Her voice is very low. A cold feeling runs down his spine as he realises what he has done. He suddenly feels panicky; he can bear Khushi ranting and yelling at him, but he can't bear to see her like this. "I'm asking you something, Arnavji," Khushi persists. Finally, he bows his head unable to meet her eyes. She gets her answer.

"Do you really love me, Arnavji?" her next question catches him completely off guard.

But Khushi steps back from him. She closes her eyes tightly for a brief moment. Then she clenches her fist and looks up at Arnav's horror-struck face. She says in a broken voice, "You have proved today, that Arnav Singh Raizada can never change." And she turns around and walks out of Arnav's cabin, leaving him standing alone, his outstretched hand holding nothing but air.
