Shah Rukh Khan in the Khaike Paan... song sequence
On October 20, producers Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Sidhwani's glamorous, urban, stylish thriller Don — The Chase Begins (a remake of the 1978 original) will hit the silver screens.

Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor (special appearance) and Ishaa Koppikar, among others. Read on to discover Sidhwani's take on the slick flick.

The making of Don

Farhan and I have grown up watching Don. It's a film Farhan has always wanted to make. So when we decided to remake Don we wanted to do it legitimately without plagiarising or reproducing. It took us a lot of time to acquire the film's rights from the producers. That was the first strategy.

Farhan and I go back a long way. We studied at the same school, Manekji Cooper (Juhu), and have been friends since. Our company, Excel Entertainment, is turning into a studio model from this year. For Farhan, Don is special as his dad had written the original along with Salim Khan. We are both emotionally attached to the film. Apart from Don, we are also producing Honeymoon Tours & Travels and two more new films next year.

Location, location!

Don is a very stylish film with lots of live action. It's a very expensive film — right from acquiring the original rights to the final copy. Don has been shot in India, Kuala Lumpur and Paris. We got permission to shoot in places where no one has ever shot before, like the former Malaysian Prime Minister's home, Petronas Towers — locations that have been denied to even Hollywood filmmakers.

Trivia about Don

Shah Rukh Khan
The basic characters and plot have been kept the same as the original, with minor changes and lots of exciting twists and turns.

The producers are not releasing Kareena's picture as she is supposed to be the surprise package towards the end. She plays Helen's character.
The credits read as 'Written and directed by Farhan Akhtar, based on the original screenplay by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar'.

Only two songs from the original have been retained in Farhan's version — Khaike Paan Banaraswala (picturised on Shah Rukh and Priyanka) and Yeh Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Deewana (picturised on Kareena Kapoor).

Action director Joe Jennings has coordinated the stunts. His Hollywood credits include Charlie's Angels, Air Force One and the Vin Diesel-starrer, XXX.

Shah Rukh did a spectacular stunt sequence himself when he jumped from a height of 15,000 feet.

Don has music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and guest tracks by Midival Punditz and DJ Randolph.

Other actors in the film include Arjun Rampal (who plays Pran's role), Boman Irani, Om Puri and Chunky Pandey.

Shah Rukh mouths the following dialogues, "Gyaarah deshon ki police Don ko nahi pakad payee…" with the title track Arey deewano mujhe pehchano playing in the background.
