CHAPTER 40. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Place - Khurana Mansion
It was Friday morning when Maan entered into Soni's room with the usual excitement in his heart; the excitement of choosing his lady love's clothes. He heard the shower and realized that his Soni was in shower. Perfect! He reached her wardrobe and was about to open it when "MK Sir, aap?" Maan closed his eyes tightly and mentally smacked his forehead. Shit! Oye! Main toh bhool hi gaya! Khushi bhi toh yahaan hai! He turned around and sighed. "Kuch kaam tha, Sir?", Khushi enquired sweetly. Maan shook his head. He looked here and there searching for an excuse. "Woh….woh ……woh main ek file bhool gaya tha! Woh dhoond raha tha!" "Yahaan?", Khushi looked at him surprised. Maan nodded. "Mili aapko?" Maan shook his head. "Shaayad main use aur kahin bhool gaya!" He mumbled and walked away. Khushi stared at his retreating back confusedly. MK Sir kab se bhulakkad ban gaye! Woh toh apne sharp memory ke liye KC mein famous hain! She shrugged and turned away. Geet walked out from the bathroom rubbing her hair with towel. "Kaun tha?" "MK Sir aaye the! Kuch dhoondh rahe the!" Geet closed her eyes. Hey Babaji! She knew why he was here. He was here to choose her, NO, his Soni's clothes. A tear leaked out of her right eye but she brushed it away. Khushi touched her shoulder bringing Geet out of her thoughts. Geet looked at her. "Aapko aaj MK Sir ko sab kuch bataana hai!", Khushi spoke. Geet nodded. How could she forget? Aise zindagi ko hilaane waali cheez koi bhulta hai kya? Khushi looked at her with sympathy in her eyes. Agar yeh humaare aur Arnavji ke saath hua hota toh hum toh jee hi nahi paate. Pata nahi Geetji yeh sab kaise seh rahi hai?
Geet walked into Maan's room but stopped in her tracks. Main aapko sach kaise bataaun Maan? Maan was nowhere as he had gone for jogging. Geet took few steps into the room and towards his wardrobe but stopped herself from going further. Main aapke kapde kaise chunu Maan jab aap mere hi nahi rahe? Aap toh mere they hi nahi! Aap toh kisi aur ke the! Kisi aur ke ho! She ran away from Maan's room with tears in her eyes. After a while Maan entered the room after having a good run outside. He frowned as his eyes reached the bed. Soni ne aaj mere kapde nahi nikaale? He shook his head. Shaayad Khushi ke saath busy hogi isi liye time nahi mila hoga. He smiled as he remembered their last night fight over icecream. Only Soni could provoke him enough to fight over a stupid matter.
As soon as Geet entered her room, Khushi grabbed her arms, "Aapne MK Sir ko bataaya?" Geet shook her head. "Himmat nahi hui." "Toh ab jaayiye aur bataayiye." Geet looked at Khushi in shock. Khushi nodded her head. Geet looked away as tear fell from her eyes. Khushi hugged her tight and Geet could not stop herself from crying.
After a while, Geet reached Maan's room with Khushi in tow. Maan was buttoning his vest. Khushi nudged Geet but Geet refused to move. Khushi pushed Geet into the room and hid behind the door. Geet gulped. Aapko kaise bataaun Maan? She turned around to go back when Maan noticed her. "Soni?" Khushi gave her a thumbs up and Geet turned back. Maan smiled at her sweetly. Geet felt her heart breaking little by little at his smile. This smile was not for her. It was for his Soni. She put on a fake smile. "Achcha hua tum aagayi. Tumse kaee baar dil kiya tie bandhwaane ka. Tum aagayi ho toh meri tie bandh do?", he told her sweetly. She looked at the floor and shuffled forward. She slowly reached him and took his tie in her shaking hands. Maan smirked. Finally, tum mere kareeb ho, Soni. "Mujhe aapse kuch baat karni hai.", Geet whispered while working on his tie. Maan smiled. His hands snaked around her waist and he pulled her closer. Geet froze. Hey Babaji! She gulped but kept on working with his tie. Yeh apni Soni ko baahon mein le rahe hain, mujhe nahi! "Bolona jaan!" Geet did not know what to say! Kya kahoon? Ki main aapka pyaar nahi hoon! Ki main aapki jaan nahi! Hey Babaji madat karo! Maan slowly raised her face with his finger under her chin. He brought his face closer to hers when suddenly Geet pushed him away and ran off. Maan smirked. Shaayad Sharma gayi. He looked at his tie; it was still not done. "Arre tie toh baandhti jaao?" But his Soni had already run off.
It was breakfast time and Geet served everyone. She had a fake smile on her face which only Khushi noticed because only she knew what Geet was going through at that moment. Khushi looked at Maan and then at Geet. She closed her eyes. Hey Devi Maiyya! Please yeh sab ek misunderstanding ho aur inki Jodi bani rahe! Itni achchi Jodi ko mat todiye Devi Maiya!
NT was upset. There was no scene between Maan and Soni; romantic or otherwise. Ek fight hi chal jaata! But unfortunately the whole time Maan was busy with Dev as there was an important client coming over early morning. Soon, breakfast was over and Maan, Dev and Khushi got up from the table. Khushi was going with Maan today as she was needed to take the minutes of the meeting. As they were walking towards the door, Khushi turned around and signaled Geet to talk with Maan. Geet nodded and readied herself to tell Maan the truth. As the trio reached the door, Geet called from behind, "Maan!" Maan signaled others to go ahead and stopped for Geet. Geet reached him and spoke, "Mujhe aapse baat karni hai!" "Haan Bolo!" Geet opened her mouth to tell him her truth when suddenly Maan's phone rang. He picked it up and spoke into it. After few seconds of talk Maan hollered, "Kya?" Geet looked at him in worry. Maan pocketed the phone and spoke, "Soni, humaare clients lagta hai jaldi aagaye hain. I have to rush. Main shaam ko tumse baat karta hoon." He kissed her forehead and walked to his car swiftly. "Par…" Geet whispered but Maan was gone. Khushi, who had waited for Maan a little ahead and had heard the whole conversation, looked at Geet and gave her a sad smile. Geet turned away. She was also upset but determined. She had to tell him; for the sake of her sanity. Main aapse baat karke hi rahoongi, Maan!
Place - Khurana Constructions
It was evening and Khushi was getting out of the Office when she got a shock. Hey Devi Maiyya! Arnavji aur Yahaan! Yes, guys you read it right! As usual there stood Arnav Singh Raizada waiting for his Heer….oops sorry his Afreen! He was leaning on his car fiddling with his blackberry. He had yet to notice Khushi. Khushi stared at him dreamily. Haaye! Kitne handsome lag rahe hain mere Hero! Mere Rakshas! Mere Raanjha! The car was parked a bit far off. Khushi came out of her dream world as she realized that he was here to pick her up. Hey Devi Maiyya! Hum inhein kaise milein! Humaari toh jaan nikli jaa rahi hai! Right on cue, her heart started beating faster and her stomach somersaulted. Lo ab toh humaare dil aur pet ne bhi kartab shuru kar diye! Ab toh hum umke saamne jaa bhi nahi sakte! Nahi Khushi! Tumhein unse milna hi hoga! Darna tumhari aadat nahi! She took few steps ahead. But she could not do it. Nahi, aaj nahi; kal! Haan! Kal theek rahega! Aaj toh ya hum sharam se paani paani ho jaayenge! Ya phir dhak-dhak ki wajah se unke saamne sach ugal denge! Nahi! Kal hi theek hai! Suddenly, a car came in front of her and the window rolled down. "Tum gayi nahi Arnav ke saath?", It was Maan. She looked at her feet not sure what to reply. Maan raised an eyebrow and looked at Arnav and then back at Khushi. Arnav had yet to notice either of them. "Jhagda hua kya?" Khushi nodded her head absentmindedly. Haan! Humaare Dil aur pet humaare sunte hi nahi! Hum nahi chaahte phir bhi kartab karte hain! "Galti uski hai kya?". Maan enquired. Khushi nodded. Haan! Galti unki hi hai! Itne pyaare hain ki humein unse pyaar hogaya. Toh galti unki hui na! Kisne kahaa tha itne sweet banne ke liye! Ab dekhliye na natija! Humein aapke saamne aane ki himmat bhi nahi ho rahi! Ab Jheliye! Humein dekhe baghair rahiye aur ek din! "Chalo, aaj tum mere saath ghar chalo!" Maan spoke. "Ji?", Khushi came out of her thoughts and realized what she had replied to his questions. Maan looked at her and she nodded. Yahi theek hoga! Hum unke saamne se gaye toh woh humse baat karne ki koshish karenge aur humaari haalat aur kharaab ho jaayegi! She entered Maan's car and they drove away. Poor Arnav! After half hour of waiting he enquired about Khushi to the office security guard only to be told that she had left with Maan. Arnav felt his blood boil. How dare she! He whipped up his mobile and called her up but her phone was switched off. Dammit! You will pay for this Afreen!
Place - Khurana Mansion
Khushi entered the house with Maan. Geet who was sitting in the hall waiting for Maan to come stood up. Khushi noticed her and came close to her. Maan gave Geet a smile and went to his room to freshen up. Khushi hugged her and whispered, "Abhi mauka hai, Geetji. Baat karlo. Dev Sir NTji ke saath busy honge aur hum Dadi ko busy rakhte hain. Aap jaakar MK Sir se baat karlo. Yahi sahi mauka hai." Geet took a long breath and nodded. Khushi gave her a smile and got back a smile from Geet; albeit a bit shaky one. Geet wandered off to Dadi's room and Geet walked off to Maan's room.
"Dadiii…", Khushi squealed as she ran into Dadi's room and hugged her. Dadi had instructed her from the first day to address her as Dadi. Khushi liked this old lady partly due to her sweet nature and partly due to the fact that because of her Khushi had got her job. Dadi looked up from the magazine she was reading and smiled. She hugged Khushi back and Khushi sat down to tell her about her whole day. Ab Arnavji nahi toh Dadi se hi kaam chala lete hain!
Geet entered Maan's room with anticipation only to notice an empty room. Ab Maan kahaan chale gaye? Suddenly the bathroom door opened and out came Maan Singh Khurana dressed only in towel. Geet's face turned red as she noticed his well defined body. She could not pull her eyes away from him. Why suddenly her throat went dry? She wondered. Maan who was toweling his hair looked up to notice his Soni standing in front of him. He smirked as he noticed her stare. He walked closer to her but her feet were rooted to their place. She could not move her legs even though all she wanted to do was run away. "Kuch chaahiye tumhein?" Maan spoke in slow husky tone bringing Geet out of her thoughts. Arre! Yeh kab mere itne paas aa gaye? Maan was so close to her that he could have kissed her if he wanted to. "Maan, mujhe aapse kuch baat karni hai.", she whispered. Maan grasped her waist and pulled her closer. Her eyes widened and she placed her hands on his chest to balance herself from the sudden movement. She gulped and Maan smirked again. "Haan! Bolo na! Kya kehna hai?" He raised his right hand and cupped her face. She stared into his eyes, trying not to forget what she wanted to say. His hand trailed from her cheek to her neck making her loose her thoughts. "Bolo na!", Maan whispered but Geet was unable to remember what she wanted to say. Suddenly, the phone rang bringing Geet out of her thoughts. She realized where she was and what she was doing. She pushed Maan with all her might and ran away to her room. Maan stood stunned. This was second time she ran away from him. And here he thought they had progressed from that stage. Lagta hai Soni Madam ka dil jeetne mein aur papad belne padenge! Geet ran into her room and fell on the bed. Soon, tears started falling from her eyes. As she cried her mind begged her Babaji to give her the strength to face her Maan and tell him the truth.
Soon, dinner time came and the family with Khushi sat down to eat. Khushi glanced at Geet and as Geet met her eyes, she looked at Maan pointedly and looked back at her wanting to know whether Geet spoke to Maan. Geet shook her head and Khushi sighed sadly. "Kya hua, beta?", Dadima questioned hearing Khushi's sigh. Khushi shook her head and went back to eating. NT was totally disappointed today. The breakfast was boring and now the dinner was also not providing any entertainment. What was wrong with Maan Veerji and Soni? Correction….Soni only. Because Maan Veerji was constantly staring at Soni only Soni ignored or avoided him. They must have fought! She decided and went back to eating.
Soon, the dinner was over and all of them retired to their room except Maan who wandered off to the study and Geet who followed him. Khushi who noticed this gave Geet a thumbs up who nodded and walked off determined. As Maan entered his study he noticed Soni following him. He sat down in his regular chair and Geet stood in front of him. "Mujhe aapse kuch baat karni hain.", Geet said with her eyes firmly staring at the ground. Maan nodded. "Haan bolo!" Even though Maan wanted to do nothing than flirt with her and watch her go flustered, he knew that she wanted to tell him something from morning, so he decided to ignore his feelings and concentrated on her words. But before Geet could say anything, Dev came into the room hollering for Maan. "Bro, mujhe aapse kuch baat karni hai. Woh Chopra construction site ke baar mein." Then he noticed Geet and spoke, "If I am disturbing you then…" "Nahi Dev, aa jaao." Maan told him. Geet sighed. As soon as Dev sat down, Geet walked out of the room and ran to her room. She fell on her bed and started crying. "Kya hua, Geetji?", she heard Khushi speak. She lifted her head and noticed Khushi standing by the bed looking at her worried. Geet leapt up from the bed and hugged Khushi tightly. Her sobs refuse to lessen and Khushi tried to comfort her by rubbing her hand on Geet's back. After a while, Geet stopped crying and told Khushi about her attempts to tell Maan the truth but her inability to do it. As she spoke about her latest attempt she told Khushi, "Mujhe samajh nahi aa raha hai main unse kaise kahoon. Har waqt kuch na kuch ho jaata jaise Babaji hi nahi chaahta ho ki hum Maan ko kuch bataayein. Jaise Babaji nahi chaahte ki Maan ko sachchaai ka pata chale!" Suddenly, Khushi felt as if she has been struck by lightning. She grabbed Geet by her shoulders and shook her roughly. "Ab humein samjha Geetji, ab humein sab samajh aa gaya hai." Geet looked at her in confusion prompting her to launch into her explanation, "Dekho Geetji, aap jab bhi MK Sir ko sach kehne ki koshish karti ho, kuch na kuch aapko rokta hi hai. Iska matlab kya hai?" But Geet still looked confused. "Offo Geetji iska matlab hai ki khud aapke Babaji aur humaari Devi Maiyya nahi chaahte ki MK Sir ko kuch pata chale." Geet looked at her in shock. "Shaayad upar waale chaahte hain ki aap MK Sir ki ho jaayein." Geet suddenly brightened up but her face dulled again. "Par sach toh yahin hai na ki Maan Soni se pyaar karte hain mujhse nahi." Khushi shook her head. "Woh jo bhi ho Geetji par yeh toh pakka hai ki Babaji nahi chaahte ki ab yeh raaz khule. Aap kal ke bare mein mat sochiye. Aap bas aaj mein ji lijiye aur apne Babaji pe bharosa kijiye." Geet shook her head but after some good lectures from Khushi Geet reluctantly agreed to keep the truth away from Maan for the time being.
Place - Shantivan
Arnav was totally annoyed. First, Afreen refused to meet him and now, his Jijaji dragged him away from his beloved laptop. Shyam sighed as he dragged an annoyed Arnav into his room and pointed at the bed. There sat Anjali on the bed crying buckets over buckets. Arnav ran to her and sat beside her. The whole family stood around her bed consoling her. Arnav worriedly glanced at the whole family and looked back at his Di. "Di, kya hua? Aap aise kyon ro rahe ho? Sab theek toh haina. Di! Kuch bolo Di!" Shyam spoke up, "Woh kya haina saale saheb, inke Chote ne aaj raat ka khaana nahi khaaya. Isliye yeh ro rahi hain. Aap iske bare mein kuch jaante hain?" Shyam's words were dripping with sarcasm and Arnav groaned. He was so annoyed at Afreen that he had refused to have food today. No wonder his Di was crying."Di…", he whispered but his Di kept on crying. He shook his head and barked at HariPrakash to bring him some food. As HP came up with food, Arnav picked up the spoon and started eating. Slowly, as his plate emptied Anjali's cries quieted down. After convincing his sister that he was alright, he finally walked out of the room. Shyam followed him and spoke, "Saale saheb, is waqt Rani Sahiba pregnancy mein bahut hi emotional hai. Jara sambhaal lijiye." Arnav nodded and wandered back into his room.
Place - Khurana Mansion
It was Saturday morning and Maan cursed himself hundredth time for allowing Khushi to stay in his house. Yesterday, he was unable to select clothes for his Soni and even Soni did not have time to select clothes for him. As his annoyance cooled down, he sighed and he berated himself for thinking badly of Khushi. How can he blame Khushi when the poor girl had nowhere else to go! What else the poor girl could have done especially when his company policies could not have granted her long leave to join her family! He shook his head as he passed Soni's room. As he passed the room, he stopped in his tracks. While jogging he had noticed Khushi and Soni taking a walk in the gardens. As he himself was coming from there they would not have enough time to come to the room. That means he had plenty of time to choose her clothes. He sneaked into the room and got to Soni's wardrobe. He removed a green suit and placed it on the bed. He smirked as he mentally pumped a fist. Finally! He walked off to his room to take bath and get ready. Even if Soni could not select his clothes atleast he got the chance to choose her clothes.
After an hour, Maan walked down to the breakfast table. Soon, the family joined him except Khushi and Soni. Maan eagerly waited for Soni to come and serve him dressed in green suit he had selected for her but to his immense disappointment it was Khushi who had decided to serve them today. His disappointment grew when it seemed that Soni was not going to come out of kitchen at all. What was wrong with her? Soon, Khushi joined them and started serving them. When enquired about Soni's whereabouts by Dadima, Khushi had told them that Soni had her breakfast early itself. The family was baffled by this but decided to let it off as one time thing. Soon, Dev asked for more parathas and Khushi went to get it.
"Aap kyun nahi aaj khaana paros rahi hai, Geetji?", Khushi asked Geet as she entered the kitchen. She did not understand why Geet was acting so weirdly. Humesha toh yehi khaana parosti hai! Geet was not ready to serve today and had decided to send Khushi for it. "Humein jawaab dijiye!", Khushi spoke up when it became clear that Geet was not going to respond. When Geet did not respond, Khushi grabbed Geet's arm and turned her. As she came face to face with Geet, she spoke, "Aapko humaari kasam, aapko bataana hi hoga!" Geet looked away sadly and spoke in an equally sad voice, "Khaana parosne ka haq maine liya kyunki main apne aapko is ghar ki bahu samajhti thi. Par woh toh main hoon hi nahi. Ab yeh haq mera nahi hai!" "Par…", Khushi tried to speak when Geet shook her head. Khushi sighed as she looked at her stubborn friend. Geetji, jab Babaji hi chaahte hain ki aap MK Sir ke bane toh aap kyon nahi is baat ko maan rahin?
Soon, after serving the parathas, Khushi sat down to eat shaking her head at her stubborn friend. She looked at her MK Sir who was looking longingly at the kitchen door. Ab humein hi kuch karna padega. Chaahe Geetji maane ya na maane unki aur MK Sir ki Jodi Devi Maiyya ki banaayi hui hai aur hum unhein ise itni aasaani se todne nahi denge. Suddenly, she noticed the water glass empty and smirked. Pehla plan shuru Mk Sir ko apni Laila ka deedaar karwana! She started coughing loudly. Soon, NT started calling for water and Geet came running outside with a jug of water in her hand. As she served Khushi with a glass of water, Maan looked at her baffled. She was not dressed in the suit he had selected for her. She was wearing a pink colored suit. Yeh Soni ko kya hua? Usne jo maina chuna woh kyun nahi pehna?
Soon, Dadima engaged Geet with some chatter while rest of them had their breakfast. Suddenly, NT nudged Khushi and pointed towards Maan. While Geet had totally ignored Maan's looks, Maan was still staring at Geet while absentmindedly eating whatever was on the plate. Khushi smiled mischievously as she got an idea. She placed a mirchi on Maan's plate. All except Maan noticed her action but kept mum. Soon, Maan picked up the green chilli and ate it without even realizing what it was. As soon as his taste buds touched the acid of chilli his eyes widened. He started shouting for water while literally jumping in his place. Soon, all started laughing except Maan who was still shouting and Geet who was pouring him water. Soon, Maan started coughing and tears came out of his eyes. After few minutes his coughing lessened enough for him to glare at the people laughing at him. All quietened down with occasional coughing to hide their laugh except Khushi. She kept on laughing. As Maan realized that she was the culprit he glared at her. But Khushi who was used to Arnav's glare just kept on laughing. "Tumhein hasee aa rahi hai?", Maan enquired in a deadly whisper. Dev and NT looked at Khushi waiting for her response. Khushi quietened down only to say, "Sorry Veerji!" and burst out laughing again. "Veerji?", Maan questioned her with a raised eyebrow. As Khushi realized what she said she became still. Hey Devi Maiyya! Humne yeh kya keh diya? MK Sir ko Veerji keh diya! She started babbling up, "Woh NTji aapko Maan Veerji bulaati hain aur unke saath rehke humein bhi aadat lag gayi. Humein maaf kijiye Mk Sir. Humein.." Dadima cut her off, "Koi baat nahi beta. Aap unhein Veerji bula sakti hain. Aap unhein hi nahi Dev ko bhi Veerji keh sakti hain." She smiled at Khushi. She did not mind that. In two days Khushi had won everybody's heart. Khushi looked at Maan for his reaction. After few seconds Maan spoke up, "Haan! Dadima theek keh rahi hain! You can call me that. Lekin sirf yahaan Office mein nahi!" He said in stern voice. "Thank you, Veerji!" Khushi beamed at him. She turned towards Dev when he interrupted her, "Not Veerji call me bro!" Maan and NT rolled their eyes while Khushi squealed, "Theek hai Dev Bro!"
Place - Outside Khurana Constructions
Khushi was walking with her head down lost in her thoughts. It was evening and her mind was still stuck on morning's breakfast. She did not have any brother while growing up and now she had two brothers. Whole day her mind was going on about how lucky she was to get two brothers. Poor Khushi! In her excitement she forgot about her decision to avoid Arnav. "Khushi Kumaari Gupta!", she heard a deathly whisper. Her subconscious registered the voice was that of Arnav and was about to correct him absentmindedly that her name was Afreen when a tight grip on her arm made her come out of her thoughts. There stood her Arnavji glaring at her. She gulped as her heart started beating faster and her stomach somersaulted. Hey Devi Maiyya! Bacha lena! "Tum mujhe avoid kar rahi ho! You are avoiding me! Why?" Arnav asked her with his eyebrow raised. Haaye! Kitne
Hero lag rahe hai! She snapped out of her thoughts flustered of what she was thinking. She gulped again and looked away. "Look at me when I am talking to you." Arnav shouted and Khushi flinched. "Fine tumhein kuch nahi bolna toh theek hai! Gaadi main baitho. Ghar pahunchne tak toh main tumse sab ugalwa hi loonga!" Khushi worriedly looked at the car. Gaadi main baithi toh hum Arnavji se kuch chupa nahi paayenge! Aur hum unse nazar bhi mila nahi paayenge! She looked here and there trying to find a way out. Arnav who was already half way ahead turned around. "Chalo!", he literally shouted and Khushi jumped. Suddenly, an idea entered her head. "Who humaara ek file Office mein reh gaya hai! Hum leke aate hain!" Arnav thought for a moment and nodded his head. She ran into the building and from the back door sneaked out to the side parking lot where she knew Maan's car was parked. After a few minutes, she called up Arnav. "Arnavji hum aapke saath nahi aa paayenge! Humein Jiji ka call aaya tha. Jiji ki saheli humein yahaan se lene aa rahi hain. Aur humein thoda kaam bhi hain. Toh aap chale jaayiye. Humein der bhi hogi aur hum Jiji ke saheli ke saamne aapse mil bhi nahi paayenge." Poor Arnav! What could he say! He agreed and went away.
Maan was getting into his car when he heard Khushi calling him, "Maan Veerji! MK Sir!" He looked behind to see Khushi running towards him. She reached him and panted out, "Hum bhi aapke saath hi challenge!" Maan looked at her. "Arnav aur tumhaare beech mein jhadga abhi bhi solve nahi hua?" Khuhsi shook her head. Maan gestured her to get in. Soon, they were off to Khurana Mansion.
Place - Shantivan
Arnav sighed as he looked at moon from his poolside. Why do I feel that you are avoiding me Afreen? Kyun? Are you avoiding me? What is wrong? Please tell me. Let me help you? Please Afreen! What is wrong with you?
