Chapter 39
One whole night Maan spent sitting in the hallway fully decorated with balloons...he didn't know what the fate was...he didn't know if the baby was going to live or if Geet will be able make it...all he knew was that he needed them...he can't let them out of his hands now...
Maan had hired all the best specialists and brought them here at any cost...he didn't care if they were on vacation or if they had any family emergency..right now nothing mattered only Geet and his baby...he looks through the glass door...one of the female gynecologist was checking for the baby while the others monitored Geet...
Maan walks around looking at his watch...half hour more until the doctor's time is up...after that he would have to face him...25 minutes...he kept walking back and fourth...he looks at his watch again...10 minutes left...
He heard the door open..the doctor came out with a smile..."sir she is awake..." Maan looks through the window to see her looking at the ceiling...
"What about the baby?"
"the gynecologist is still checking on that..."
Maan grabs the doctors neck slowly raising him off his feet with one arm in anger...the doctor looks down in fear at him kicking his legs back and fourth as he struggled to breath...the doctor looks down at him with fear..."I want results you here me! Results! Understand?"
"yes sir.." (Maan lets him go making him fall on his feet...)
Maan: hmm when can I see my wife?
"As soon as the doctors finish checking up on her..."
Maan: Hmm...
He looks at her through the window again..she wasn't moving at all just kept staring at the ceiling without blinking...it pinched him a little to see her like this...the same restlessness started to creep up inside him again...for the first time he realized his mistakes...slowly he started opening the doors unknowingly...the doctors didn't dare to stop him knowing who he was...he sat down next to Geet just looking at her...slowly he brings his hand to touch her hand but stopped shortly after the doctor's voice brought him back to reality
"Umm Mr. Khruana..."
Maan: come to the point...how is the baby
"The baby has survived but..."
Maan: But what?
"It seems like Geet..."
Maan: Mrs. Khruana NOT Geet...
"sorry Mrs.Khruana seems to be in shock...if she remains like this then it would be impossible for the baby to survive..." (he looks at Geet who was still not moving...) "It seems like she is not registering anything...she doesn't know the baby survived...you have to find a way to make her come out of this or else there would be nothing we can do..."
Maan: hmm anything else? (the doctors shake their heads no...) get the discharged papers...I want to take her home...you may leave..
He said without looking at them...Maan holds her hand in his hand slowly rubbing it..."you have no idea how happy I am today...you are going to give me a heir to my kingdom...just wait Geet till he grows up...I will make him into a better king...better then me...everyone will look up to him and respect him..."
Geet listened to him quietly with tears rolling down her eyes which went unnoticed by Maan as he kept talking about the baby..."He will be exactly like me..." His words rang in her head...kept replaying again and again...his physical and mental tortures he put her through...the rape, the beating everything flashed before her eyes...she closes her eyes trying to block his voice...she wanted to remove his hand that was holding her but couldn't...she was physically and mentally weak...she had no energy to fight anymore...
"Mama..." Geet smiles when she saw the same little girl from her dreams again..."I am back...I told you that I will never leave you..."
"NO Don't go..." (Geet shouts...Maan looks at her confused...he touches her hand but she jerks it away looking at him with anger...he was hurt seeing her anger and hatred for him...)
"DON'T touch me! Why did you save me? Why did you save the baby? WHY?!" (She yells before fainting...Maan calls the doctors in right away while he just stood there helpless looking at her...)
"She doesn't want the baby to be alive? Why?!"
"sir please its better if she is left alone for now..she needs her rest..." (Maan nodes his head...he goes outside to see Dadima sitting there looking at him with same anger and hatred he saw in Geet's eyes)
Dadima: Waah beta...I really have to applaud you for what you have done...I thought that maybe there would be a chance for you to see the light, see what you have, see the value of Geet, see how you feel but I was wrong..I was blinded by my faith and hope that one day maybe you will change...but now I have completely lost my hope and faith in you. Its a shame that the baby is alive...
Maan: DADIMA (he screams after hearing the last sentence)
Dadima: DON'T YELL! What are you going to offer your child besides money and name? What do YOU have that you can offer your kid? What will you teach your kid when he grows up? How to kill? How to treat people around you? Or how to torture your wife until she is dead? What will you teach your child Maan? hmm...A person like you don't deserve any happiness let alone a child whose life you can ruin.
You couldn't even become a big brother...did you ever think of Vicky? How he must be doing? How much he needs you? He looked at you as a father figure and what have you done with him? You threw him out of your life and why? Just because he had dared to have fun? What is the guarantee that you won't do the same with your child?
She looks at Geet with tears..."I had told her not to come back...I told her not to be back under any circumstances but she still did and now she is paying the price...you are no one to me now Maan...I wish I was no longer living in that same house and see you do the same things again like your father but I am only there for Geet...You are dead to me..." (she leaves from there without once looking at Maan...)
