Part 10 - Trial by fire

2:37 AM: Arnav stared at Khushi with overwhelming love and mentally talked to Khushi, confessing all his love, things he liked about her, things that drove him crazy ...Payal was asleep on the other side. "Wake up Khushi, bas kar liya tumhara drama. Time to wake up now and drive me more crazy", Arnav thought as he ran his hands lightly over the strap on her belly connected to the monitors with numerous lights blinking and showing heartbeats of the babies. As though she had heard him literally, Khushi stirred, scrunched up her eyes even though there was only a pale nightlight in her room. Arnav started. He saw how she grimaced as though in pain, opened her eyes a tiny bit and looked at her hands. Arnav was overjoyed...His Khushi had woken up, one more milestone crossed in her recovery, he thought as he darted outside to get the doctor.

The doctor arrived and checked her blood pressure, took her pulse, monitored oxygen levels...Khushi still looked like she was in pain and she gestured towards the IV sticking into her hand. The doctor removed one of the IVs, fixed the position of the other one so it would not hurt as much. "Once you are able to eat or drink by yourself, we can take this remaining IV out as well. How are you doing?", he asked. Khushi nodded even though it hurt and made her dizzy to even do that.

Payal had woken up by then and was very happy to see Khushi awake and conscious. She touched Khushi's face, crying tears of joy. Khushi felt strangely as though someone else had taken over her body. She did not understand why jiji was crying, why Arnav ji was looking at her so with a mixture of sadness, guilt and some other emotion she could not identify. After all, he had poured out his heart's true feelings already she thought recollecting all that had happened before her tripping on the stairs. She looked away from him and focused on the monitors at the side blinking. "Your babies are doing fine so far, in case you are wondering", said the doctor helpfully. "Babies?", Khushi asked. "Yes, we caught the twins heartbeats on the ultrasound, they are little fighters and are hanging in there. So you dont have to worry!" Khushi blinked confusedly and then realization dawned. This was probably what she had missed hearing when she tuned out the doctor who had conveyed the good news. "Not one, but two..", she thought. Arnav read that from her expressions as well -- He recalled Khushi saying "Are you excited about the baby?" So, it looked like she hadnt known before. He was hoping she would be excited hearing that there were two lives that they had created. However, Khushi's expression was all blank, like a clean slate. She just nodded, and went back into her sapnon ki duniya where people dont get hurt.

Shyam looked around to make sure no one had seen him. He cursed himself for losing his temper..But Kamalaji had to be crushed like the mosquito she was. She had served her purpose enough. Now to find out who had mobilized this mosquito. He pick up her cell phone and looked at the last dialed numbers. There was a number there he did not recognize - just labeled A. He did not want to take the risk of dialing the number now. He decided to visit ASR's office to size up ASR's reaction and maybe get under his skin further by taunting him if he was there. Else, he thought of searching ASR's office in case he could find something. He reached the office and was about to sign in when the guard asked.."Sir, aap yahaan? Khushi madam kaisi hai? Hum sab yahaan unki bahut yaad kar rahe they..Unhone kitne mahine hamare liye khaana banaya, bilkul hamari maa ki tarah...Aur unka aisa hua aaj...Yakeen hi nahi hota. Woh hospital se ghar aa gayi? Kya Anjali ji theek hai - Jab woh yahaan aayi thi, tho Khushiji ki baat sunkar woh bahut pareshan ho gayi thi", he asked tsking. Shyam was perplexed. What had happened to Khushi. Had the awful ASR subjected her to some other atyachaar? The rage began to build and ebb as he started thinking logically...Why hadnt Anjali called him? She , who could not solve the arguments between Arnav and Naani and had to call him every single time for every little decision, how had she not even tried calling him ...He thought looking at his own cellphone. Something has happened, his ever-suspicious mind thought. He did not reveal anything of his thoughts to the guard, pretended that his cell phone was vibrating and that he was getting a call and left the place.

He called Anjali ...She took his call, "Aap kahaan hai? Hum saath mein khaane ke liye intezaar kar rahe they." "Abhi aa rahen hai, rani sahiba", Shyam prevaricated and hung up. Why was Anjali lying to him? Why hadn't she told him about Khushi? Yeh kya nayi musibat hai, Shyam thought in frustration.

Part 11

One thing I am seeing from all the posts...All of us love ASR/Arnav ...But all of us also want to see him suffer. Why this contradiction I wonder! All of us hate him for being nasty with Khushi...But when he starts being nice, penitent and sensitive, he loses his charm, his machismo. This is an interesting lesson in psychology!

She did not forget...Part 10 does say that she remembered all that Arnav had poured out before she tripped on the stairs. But something else is wrong! (hint, hint! 😉)
