Chapter 1:

It was 12 midnight. Arnav and Khushi had finally put Ashi to sleep. They quietly crept out of the room and went to the study to sit there and wait for Payash to return. Even though they would spend a lot of time with Ashi, they didn't know about her eating habits or her sleep schedule. They would just spend their evenings with her after returning from their respective jobs. It freed Payel and she would be able to spend some time with Aakash.

K: hats off to jiji! She exclaimed as she sat down on the sofa.

A: i never knew that Ashi was so damn choosy about her food yaar... he replied as he sat down next to Khushi...

K: hmm...

K: it's 12:05... jiji and jijaji should have returned by now, don't you think so?

A: hmm... Arnav had almost dozed off...

K: Sleeping beauty... she complained...

A: i am listening! He warned...without opening his eyes.

K: yeah right...

A: aren't you tired? He asked finally opening his eyes...

K: hmm...

A: then sleep... and he pulled her down. She rested her head on the head rest of the sofa, next to his and closed her eyes. Arnav closed back his eyes.

Arnav's phone longed to be picked up by him as someone tried calling him up for the nth number of time. Arnav and Khushi slept in peace in the study and their phones got in numerous calls from unknown numbers.

Arnav woke up all of a sudden to the sound of Ashi crying. He woke up Khushi and they ran up to Payash's room.

Khushi picked Ashi up on her lap as she gently patted her on her back but Ashi was nowhere near to quietening down. She cried loudly. Arnav took her from Khushi and walked into his room, he took Ashi to the poolside, it always quietened her down but tonite she wasn't ready to quieten down.

K: it's 2'o clock Arnav... where is jiji and jijaji? Ashi won't stop unless she sees jiji and jijaji.

A: i don't know... they should have been back by now... He said as he sat down on the bench next to the poolside.

K: i'll give jiji a call...

A: hmm... Ashi started crying out, louder, the moment Arnav sat down on the bench. He almost jumped up and started pacing around the poolside. Ashi's crying softened down.

Khushi saw 12 missed call alerts on her phone from an unknown number. She quickly called back... it said busy. She called up Payel which was unavailable; same was the case with Aakash's phone. She slammed her phone on the bed when suddenly her phone rang up... it was a call from that unknown number.

K: yes?

Man: umm... may i know your relationship with the owner of this number - 98765599?

K: this is supposed to be my jiji's number... who are you?

Man: i am a police officer, i tried calling you up earlier but no one picked up the calls...

K: police officer?

PO: your jiji and most probably your jijaji, has met with an accident at the northern part of the highway...

K: WHAT??

PO: yes, i had tried calling you...we couldn't call anyone else as her phone broke down... we could just retrieve the last dialled number from her phone and that was yours...

Khushi had entered into her shock mode...

PO: hello, miss...?

K: how are they?

PO: they are at 'city hospital' come here as soon as possible...

K: how are they?

PO: they are not in a good shape ma'am, come soon...

Khushi's eyes had puffed up from crying. Ashi had fallen asleep in the car. She rang up the Gupta house bell for the 6^th time. Finally buaji came up and opened the door.

Bu: sanka devi? What are you doing here, so late at night?

K: buaji can you please look after Ashi for some time?

Bu: what?

Just then Arnav appeared behind Khushi...

Bu: Arre Arnav bitua?

A: buaji please...

Bu: is that a 'please' thing? I would surely look after her, she took a sleeping Ashi from Khushi's lap, "but what are you doing here..." by the time she could complete her question, Arnav and Khushi were at the outer gate...

Bu: sanka devi? Arnav bitua?

Arnav drove at the highest speed possible on his car. Khushi almost jumped out of the car, the moment they reached 'city hospital'

A: Khushi careful...

She hadn't given him the time to stop the car properly...

Khushi ran in...

K: accident case... a couple... Aakash and Payel Raizada, she said as she gasped for breath.

Receptionist: yes, just a minute... GOPAL!

A ward boy came up to her.

Re: he'll take you to the morgue.

K: morgue?

Re: i am sorry but they died at the accident site itself...

Khushi turned pale, "jiji can't leave me...no...She can't leave me...no" she mumled

Arnav walked upto her, "where are they?"

K: she can't leave me... she almost yelled at him... they can't leave us...

A: what? He asked, shocked.

K: jiji and jijaji...she broke down... Arnav placed his hand round her shoulder, fighting back his tears...Khushi crashed onto his chest clutching onto his shirt... he took her in his embrace and let her cry her heart out.

K: take me to Ashi now!!

A: Khushi stop being immature... it's 4:30 am.

K: i want Ashi now! She demanded... i want my ashi now... the rigidity faded instantly and she started crying again...

Arnav stopped the car at one side of the road. He wrapped his arm round her, "Khushi let's go home now...i promise i'll get Ashi from your buaji's house early in the morning...

K: why not now?

A: Khushi... try to understand, the bodies...

K: they are not bodies... they are jiji and jiaji...

Arnav couldn't control himself anymore... he hugged Khushi and finally started crying...

A: yes they are Aakash and Payel... our Aakash and Payel...

K: it's entirely my fault...i shouldn't have forced them to go out for dinner... she said crying...

A: it's not at all your fault Khushi...it's nobody's fault...

K: no it's my... Arnav released the hug and cupped her face

A: shhh... it's not your fault...it's not...

Khushi stopped crying... she rubbed Arnav's tears "let's go home..."

A: Khushi are you okay?

K: hmm...

NEXT MORNING

Buaji completely broke down, when Arnav told her about the deaths...

Bu: can we bring them here?

K: no they are not in a condition to be moved or displaced. They will be there at the morgue till today; the hospital officials will cremate them tomorrow morning...

Bu: can i go and see them for the last time?

A: yes... come i'll take you to the hospital...

K: i won't go...i'll stay with Ashi...

Arnav was worried about Khushi... she had changed a lot within a few hours... the person who couldn't imagine a thing without her jiji didn't want to see her for the last time. Last night she stood outside the morgue and rejected to go in and identify the bodies. Arnav had to go in all alone and identify them. Everything was intact but their bones were almost crushed to tiny pieces due to which transporting the bodies was difficult.

Arnav and buaji walked out of the house...

A: buaji can you go with Aman? I don't think i should leave Khushi alone here...

Aman was not only Arnav's assistant but also a good friend of his. He was the only person on the earth who understood Arnav very well and could control his temperaments. Everyone related to Arnav knew Aman very well and were familiar with, him helping Arnav's family out.

Bu: you are right babua... i'll manage with Aman, you stay with sanka devi.

Arnav and Khushi went back to Raizada Mansion that very evening. Ashi was asleep... Khushi lied her down on cot and sat down on the floor next to it.

Arnav gave her a glass of water and sat down next to her, "Khushi are you okay? "hmm…"

"Arnav, are you sure they won't come back?"

Arnav looked at her with a shocked expression….

"Khushi!!" he exclaimed…

"wont they ever ever ever come back?" her voice trembled… Arnav took her into his embrace… Slowly she was beginning to believe that they won't come back.

Next morning Arnav woke up to find Khushi sitting at the poolside. He went and sat down next to her…

A: "where's Ashi?"

K: "she is asleep in my room…"

Arnav felt normalcy in her voice…

A: "let's get ready, the lawyer will be here any moment now…" he said as he stood up to leave…

K: "lawyer?" she asked still looking at the calm water of the pool.

A: "hmm…"

K: "why?"

A: "nothing important…" he rushed out of the poolside and ran into the washroom….

"How do I tell you Khushi that he will be here to discuss about Ashi's guardianship…?" he sighed.

The Charcter of Aman was an idea shared by Pramiti (drool_ovr_barun), who had pointed out that Aman cannot be a dumb person and a spineless man as he handles the mighty Arnav Singh Raizada and considering the fact that Arnav cannot imagine a thing without Aman, means he is a trustworthy man who has seen Arnav go through ups and downs in his life and has been with him through out.

Very sad part.
Little ashi cried so much. It was like she knew her parents are dead now.. Does Akash have any other family member than Arnav..
