😆😕One thing I wanted to say. Everyone is saying that Maan did not trust in Geet's innocence but in Darji!😕
So I wanted to ask u…who would you trust? A man you have known nearly your whole life, who has brought you up? Or someone you know for a week?😕
Maan has no reason to disbelieve Darji's words.
Said that lets proceed.
Here is the next part, let's see how you find this part.
CHAPTER 26:
The outside weather was just perfect to spend a warm romantic day in bed, Naintara thought as she snuggled against her sleeping husband. She blushed as last night's memories flashed in front of her. Dev had been wild, not that she had complained.
She looked at her sleeping husband, admiring his handsome profile. She thanked God everyday for sending a man like Dev into her life. She traced his features with her fingers lovingly when suddenly Dev caught her hand. "Kya baat hai, aaj mujhpe bada pyaar aa raha hai!" he smirked as he shifted to trap her beneath him.
"Pyaar to humesha hi aata hai! Isme aapko koi shak hai?" she pouted, as she entwined her hands behind his back and pulled him closer for another session of lovemaking.
After they were lying replete in each other's arms, Naintara said suddenly, "Kuch bhi kahiye, aapko maanna padhega, we girls won the round yesterday! Aap ka chehra dekhne layak tha!" and she started laughing.
"Tum ko hasi aa rahi hai! I will give you something to laugh about!" Dev threatened and started tickling her mercilessly, while Naintara begged for mercy.
They laughingly collapsed and Naintara said, "I never expected Maan Veerji to be so romantic. I couldn't believe it when I saw him carting off Geet like that." She said in awe. "I am so happy that finally Maan Veerji is living again. Mere dil me humesha ye darr rehta tha ke kahi wo us andhere ko apni zindagi na bana le. Lekin ab Geet aa gayee hai na. I am sure she will fill his life with colours. Today seeing him play Holi after so long my heart is at peace. I am sure Anjali Aunty bhi khush hogi. Bas yehi dua hai Rab se ke un dono ko kisi ki nazar na lage"
Her words brought Dev out of his lethargic mood and he recollected a certain incidence he has witnessed a few days back. Maan throwing Geet out of his office. Geet's pleading and her cries were still ringing in his ears.
"Don't tell me tumne Maan ke khane me bhi wo milaya tha?" He prayed for a negative answer, but was disappointed as Naintara happily outlined the entire plan.
He got up suddenly, surprising his wife muttering "Mujhe kuch kaam yaad aa gaya. I will be back soon."
=====
Dev stood outside Maan's door and waited hoping his fears turned out to be unfounded, but one look at Geet when she opened the door, killed that thought. Her red eyes gave her away, even though she looked composed.
"Are Dev Jijaji, aap yaha? Maan is not here. He is in the office."
"Main kya sirf Maan se hi milne aa sakta hoon? Tumse nahi?"
Geet bit her lip at the rebuke, inviting him in. She was in no state to calmly smile but didn't want to appear rude. "Aap baithiye, mai aapke liye chai lati hu."
Dev waited for her to come and settle down before he started. He didn't know how to say what he had come here to talk. Knowing Maan, he knew that talking to him was as good as banging his head against a brick wall. But he also knew that Maan needed Geet in his life. However, blinded by prejudices he was turning away from his only chance of happiness. But would it be fair to Geet? Wasn't she too innocent and delicate to bear all this? The thought nagged him. But then the efforts she had been putting in making this relationship work wasn't a testimony to the fact that Geet needed Maan as much as he needed her.
After witnessing the incident that day, he had made discrete inquiries and what he learned had shocked him. Maan had married Geet to get his inheritance. What he couldn't understand was why Maan had chosen Geet. Nevertheless, despite this, he had seen the sparks between them, the look in Maan's eyes for Geet, be it care, passion, jealousy or possessiveness. Maan may try to hide it as much as he wanted, but the truth was clearly visible in his eyes. After years of living in darkness, Dev could see a light in Maan's lifeless existence. There was no ways in hell that he would let his egoistic brother in law destroy the best thing that had happened to him without giving his happiness a chance. He would do his utmost to see that this relationship worked.
His musings were brought to a halt when Geet entered with the tea. Dev thought to ask her directly, "Is everything Ok Geet? You are looking worried." Geet, who was in the process of pouring the tea, was caught off guard and her hand wobbled. She answered in the negative making and Dev nodded tentatively. "You Sure?" he prodded further.
"Haan Jijaji sab theek hai. Aap aise hi pareshan ho rahe hain." Geet tried to keep a straight face while she stirred the sugar in the tea.
"Geet generally what always appears is not always real. Sometimes the truth is hidden beneath the surface. But then you have to set your goals in life, understand how much is it worth and what you have to give to get it. And if you are convinced that something is worth fighting for, then don't give up, no matter the hurdles." He looked at her to see if his words registered.
"Mai kuch samjhi nahi Jijaji." Geet looked genuinely confused.
He sighed, knowing he would have to take the direct route.
"Main jaanta hoon ki tumhari pareshani ki wajah Maan hai." Dev looked directly in her eyes, challenging her to defy him. "Don't deny." He firmly told her when he saw her denial coming. Embarrassed, Geet looked in her lap.
"Geet jis din Maan ne tumhe office se bahar nikala, main wahi tha." Dev answered her unasked question while she continued to stare at her hands while tears clouded her vision.
"Geet, if I wish to be fair, toh mujhe tumse keh dena chahiye ki mat saho yeh sab. Leave the man who don't understand your worth." Dev lashed out while a baffled Geet looked at him. Before she could protest he raised his hand to stop her. "I know, I know, even if I ask this from you, you won't do it. And to be honest I am a little selfish too. I don't want Maan to suffer in loneliness again. And so, I won't ask you to leave Maan." Dev justified.
"Aap galat soch rahe hai Jijaji. Mere hone se unhe takleef hoti hai. My absence won't affect him." Geet's throat constricted.
"Nahi Geet. Kisi bhi problem ka solution us problem se bhaag jaana ya usse apni destiny maan ke accept karna nahi hota. You need to probe deeper and reach its roots. You know, Maan was not always this way, the proverbial angry young man. He also used to smile, enjoy life. But circumstances are not always favorable to people who believe in going the right way. Life tests you more and tries to break you."
He looked at Geet gauging her reactions, glad that he had managed to catch her attention. "Maan ne bahoot kuch dekha hai aur saha hai. Abhi se nahi bachpan se. Isliye wo rishton me vishwas hi nahi karta. He doesn't care about society or rules. He makes his own and follows them stringently." He sighed thinking back to all that Naintara had revealed to him about the past. "I am not saying ke Maan ne galtiyaan nahi ki hai. Wo bhi insaan hai. Lekin kabhi kabhi insaan haalat ke aage majboor ho jata hai. Maan ke saath bhi aisa hi hua hai. Haalaat ke aage wo bhi jhuk hi gaya. And for Maan nothing is more important than his pride. He never compromises on it, no matter what the consequences. For the first time in life he has compromised his words. That's why he is angry, with himself and you."
"Par mujhse kyu Jijaji? What have I done?" Geet protested.
"Because you are the one he finally married."
"Matlab?" She asked in surprise. "Matlab Maan had vowed that he would never marry! And now here you are in his life. As his wife."
"What? He didn't want to marry? Then why did he?" Geet was shocked to hear this.
"I know you have a lot of questions, but I am not the one to answer them. Neither do I have all the answers. You will have to wait for Maan to tell you himself. I just want to say that after you came here, this is the first time I am seeing Maan affected by anyone. He still has to adjust to the fact that he has gone back on his words, that now he has someone who is his own, that there is a relationship now that binds him. And I am sure, if I know my BIL right, wo apna ghussa tumpe nikal raha hoga, right?" Dev questioned.
"N…Noo…" Geet instinctively stuttered.
Dev rolled his eyes, "You know Geet, you are a terrible liar. Your face gives you away."
"Par Jijaji..." Geet protested.
"Ek baat bolu Geet? Judge him by his actions not by his words. Maan ko apne dil ki baat kehna nahi aata. Wo humesha se hi aisa hai. Chup chap sab karega. Bina kuch bole. Tumhe hi samajhna hoga ke wo kya keh raha hai. Uska ghussa uski sabse badi kamzori hai. Ghusse me kuch bhi bold eta hai kar deta hai. Magar dil se bura nahi hai."
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she recollected all that he had said and done.
"Tumhare Babaji ne aap dono ka rishta bandha hai. Unhone usme kuch behtari hi rakhi hogi. There is some invisible bond between you too. Mano rab ne tumhe ek doosre ke liye hi banaya hai."
She realized that his words and actions were always contrasting each other, leaving her in a perpetually confused state.
"You understand what I mean to say right? Think it over Geet. You are like a small sister to me and I would always want the best for my sister." He said wiping her tears and hugging her sideways.
Geet wept in his arms for all the unsaid words that were locked in her heart. Her heart filled up with the care she was being showered with. Never in her life after her parents passed away had anyone wiped her tears and looked out for her. The warmth and shelter of an elder brother's bosom were a novelty and she wept for all that she had lost. Dev patted her back soothingly and calmed her down.
After she had regained some semblance of poise, Dev started to leave when Geet's hesitant voice stopped him. "I…err….wanted to ask u…can I call you Veerji?" she asked smiling tentatively through her tears.
Dev smiled at this child woman in front of him, "Ye bhi koi poochne ki baat hai?" he patted her head affectionately and left a contemplative Geet behind.
==========
This time when the door closed, Geet was left not with gloom and despondency but with a new spark somewhere kindling inside her. It hurt her, slighted her; to think that the man she wished to begin a new life with thought so low about her. However when the full impact of Dev's words hit her, and it ignited a zeal to fight back for her self-respect.
She already knew for a man like her husband, self-respect was everything. And her trying to force him into something against his will, which he assumed she had meant to do, would have hit him big time. She again went over the happenings of the previous evening, this time with a slightly open mind, when something struck her. "Babaji does that mean we didn't do anything?" she thought back on his words. His words about him being in pain and suffering for her honour made her realize that her husband had not taken advantage of her unabbreviated state, even when he himself had been high. Tears ran down her face as she thought about Maan in a new light. "What kind of a man is he? Ghusse me kuch bhi bol denge, but Dev Veerji is right. His actions speak louder than his words."
She recollected his statement "…….someone who doesn't give a damn about you or your family…"

Kehte hain khuda ne iss jahan mein sabhi ke liye
Kisi na kisi ko hai banaya har kisi ke liye
Tera milna hai uss rab ka ishaara maanu
Mujhko banaya tere jaise hi kisi ke liye
Kehte hain khuda ne iss jahan mein sabhi ke liye
Kisi na kisi ko hai banaya har kisi ke liye
Tera milna hai uss rab ka ishaara maanu
Mujhko banaya tere jaise hi kisi ke liye
"Does that mean he cares for ME?" she pondered over the question then realized that her husband was an enigma and would remain so. If she wished to break his barrier of aloofness, she would have to try to get past his harsh veneer to the man within.
In spite of everything, he had not left her to suffer. He had got his point across in his own way.
Maan was someone she could respect, a man she could love given a chance, she realized.
Maan Singh Khurrana was a man in a million and her Darji had not been wrong in selecting him for her. Maybe the old man did care for her after all, she thought.
Till now she had been doing all this just to save her marriage, as she had promised her Darji that she would do her all to make her marriage a success. Also she herself believed in the sanctity of marriage and had not wanted Maan to make a mockery out of such a blessed institution.
Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
Kaise hum jaane hume kya pata
Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
Dev Veerji was right. There had always been an unseen attraction between them, shackling them together. Since the first time they had met.
Maybe her Darji had shackled them together in marriage, but after that? All their intimacies came to her, where Maan couldn't help but come close to her. There was an underlying feeling running between them which were more binding then the shackles of society.
Tu humsafar hai, phir kya fikar hai
Jeene ki wajah hi yahi marna issi ke liye
Kehte hain khuda ne iss jahan mein sabhi ke liye
Kisi na kisi ko hai banaya har kisi ke liye
Maan was all she had wished for in a life partner. She had seen his varied facets, be it the doting brother or the strict boss. The obedient grandson or a responsible husband.
Perhaps she was falling for this enigmatic man who was her husband. He had never spoken a sweet word to her; in fact he was barely civil to her. His harshness many a times exuded pain, leaving her in tears, but at the end of the day, she would want him to be by her side. Love was more than her airy fairy dreams about whispered sweet nothings. It was a carefully cultured feeling, taking into account each aspect of your partner's personality and carefully balancing the Id and Ego.
Meharbaani jaate jaate mujh pe kar gaya
Guzarta sa lamha ek daaman bhar gaya
Tere nazara mila, roshan sitaara mila
Takdeer ki kashtiyon ko, kinara mila
It was accepting a person despite his faults and loving him in spite of them.
Sadiyon se tarse hai jaisi zindagi ke liye
Teri sauhbat mein duaayein hain ussi ke liye
Not to forget all the other relations she had obtained by this marriage.
A family to call her own. To love and cherish.
Naina Di, Annie, Dev Veerji, Arjun Jijaji…..and many more she had met the previous day. That had welcomed her into their small community whole heartedly making her feel warm and cherished.
This was something she had yearned for all her life. A caring and doting family which Maan had unknowingly provided her with.
Tere milna hai uss rab ka ishaara
Maanu mujhko banaya tere hi jaise kisi ke liye
He had been cruel to her, made her cry, but then some way or the other, he came back to repent in his own way, applying balme to her wounds. He might be portraying himself to be a hard shelled unfeeling brute, but he was not. It was his way of avoiding relations which he didn't want. And then his constant yaps about women, that was something else. Maybe something had happened to him to make him what he was today. Dev Veerji had hinted as much today.
She would find out what it was that had made him so, but as of now she had other priorities.
Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
Kaise hum jaane hume kya pata
Kuch toh hai tujhse raabta
Tu humsafar hai, phir kya fikar hai
Jeene ki wajah hi yahi marna issi ke liye
Kehte hain khuda ne iss jahan mein sabhi ke liye
Kisi na kisi ko hai banaya har kisi ke liye
First thing after he comes back, she would insist that he listens to her and clear this misunderstanding. She would make sure she cleared his misconceptions and made him trust her, because all she knew in her life was that trust was the basis of any relationship. Be it friendship or love. First he had to trust her, believe in her, only then would they be able to step forward.
"Babaji please sab theek kar do. App bas Maan ka ghussa shant kar do. Baki sab mai dekh lungi! Please Babaji." She prayed.
She would leave no stone unturned in winning his love.
"Maan Singh Khurrana just wait and watch. Aap chaho na chaho Babaji ne humare rishta bandha hai. Aur ise mai itni asani se nahi bikharne doongi!"
She vowed, thinking back to all that had happened. The happenings of the previous day, made her waver from her resolve, but she firmed her stance, promising vengeance for his deeds! "Sabse pehle aapki kadwi zubaan ka kuch karna padhega!"
"Abhi tak aapne Geet ko dekha hai! Now let's see how you cope with Geet Maan Singh Khurrana. Aapne hi kaha na? Ke kone me baith ke rone se kuch nahi hoga? Abhi aap dekho ke ye Geet kya karti hai! Jab ghee seedhi ungli se nahi nikalti to ungli tedhi karni hi padhti hai."
