Again thanks for the likes and comments. Nice of you all to take time out. Keeps me enthused to continue this FF despite hectic work, as I have always said.
I had to make this update because I was being threatened to resolve the mystery:) enjoy!Chapter 36
'A proposition for me. Ha ha!" Shyam laughed.
"Yes Mr Jha. Before you laugh you may want to hear the proposition. It is simple. You decide not to sell Arnav's shares or do whatever to get them back and I will'." Khushi swallowed before uttering the next sentence.
"You will what? Leave ASR and come to me?" Shyam asked.
"In your dreams Mr Jha. I am and always will be Arnav's,"' she said angrily. Arnav felt a stab of pride at that. He wanted to cut the call and scream the hell out of the silly girl. But he was curious about what this proposition was. His worst fears had cleared with the last lines.
"So what will you do Mrs ASR? You have no power over me," Shyam said confidently.
"You are wrong. If you do not return Arnav's shares, I will go ahead and file two cases against you. One for attempted bigamy and another for attempted murder of my father," Khushi finally got it out of her system.
There was silence from Shyam's end. Arnav himself was stunned. Attempted murder? What was she talking about?
Khushi had made the threat, but she was scared if Shyam was going to bite the bait or not. So, she waited holding her breath.
"You won't dare do that. If you say attempted bigamy, it will ruin your reputation because people will know you were involved with me before Arnav. The whole family will know. You will be ruined forever," Shyam said.
"I don't care what happens to me. It matters that Arnav is safe. You got that? Moreover it is better I am ruined than Arnav" Khushi said, possessing a new courage which came under pressure. Arnav was spellbound by Khushi's love and loyalty for him and he watched on as she continued the conversation. She had moved to the balcony and hence she had no way of noticing him, as he stood just behind the balcony door.
"And how will you prove attempted murder. It is not enough if your father and your family says this. The court needs proof," Shyam countered.
"And we have proof," Khushi lied," I have got the recorded version of how you threatened my father in the hospital. The hospital cameras recorded everything."
She hoped and prayed that Shyam had believed her lie. She did not have any proof. But she hoped he would believe her or at least fear that this may be true.
"Show me the records. Mail them to me. I will see after that what I do with Arnav," he said.
"No. I will not wait that long and see Arnav go through this stress. We let you get away with what you did to my father simply because you were married to Di. We wanted to give you a chance and see Di happy. So we did not pursue a case against you for attempted murder. Now nothing can stop me from handing over the CD to the police. As for attempted bigamy, the whole of Laxmi Nagar will be the witness from Happyji to all other residents. So, tell me Shyam Manohar Jha. What's your choice. Two cases against you or dropping the deal?"
Shyam was silent. Arnav galvanized into action. Khushi had taken enough stress. He had to stop this nonsense. He stepped in tried to take the phone from Khushi. But she snatched it away and pleaded him with her eyes to let her complete the conversation.
"Tell me Shyam, yes or no? And yes, after this you are never going to bother us in anyway. If you do this threat holds good at all times.
One more thing! Don't you dare harm me or Di or Arnav or anyone in our family! I am going to make a statement to the police that if anything happens to any of us, you and you alone are responsible.
So Shyam Manohar Jha, I am telling you to get out of our lives forever and never come back. Either you do this or you are going to be in deep trouble," Khushi said.
There was a long silence. Khushi was shaking like a leaf as this whole act was taking a toll on her. Arnav hugged her close, offering her his strength and comfort.
"Ok. Fine. I will do as you say. Just make sure you never go to the police about me. It will ruin my career as a lawyer," Shyam said.
"Great Mr Jha. Arnav's lawyers will do the rest. And stay out of our lives in future," she said.
"You have become like him. You are two of a kind. Disgusting," Shyam said and hung up.
Khushi couldn't believe her plan had worked. She hugged Arnav harder and cried in happiness.
"I did it Arnav. I was able to help you," Khushi said.
"I am mad at you for doing this. Why didn't you tell me first?" Arnav asked.
"And why didn't you tell me what your business crisis was? I am mad at you for hiding it too," Khushi said.
"I did not want to worry you," Arnav said.
"And I did not want to worry you or see you worried. That's why I called Shyam. So you see we had the same aim," Khushi said.
Arnav's eyes misted over at this statement. How much she loved him!
"How did you know what the problem was. I never told you and I am sure no one else could have," he asked.
"I eavesdropped when you talked in the morning," Khushi admitted looking guilty.
"That's so not done Mrs ASR," Arnav said sternly while trying not to grin at her deviousness.
"Well what you were doing just now was also eavesdropping. So, you see, again we are no different," she said, "So at the end of the day we have dealt with your crisis and Shyam Manohar Jha! He is out of our lives," Khushi said.
Arnav hugged her close, "But with him we never know," he said,
"No Arnav I know he won't be back. He is too scared of losing his career if we file a case against him that too as serious as attempted murder" Khushi said.
"I never knew about that. Why didn't you tell me?" Arnav asked.
"Because I still had hopes that Shyam would change for Di. Poor Di," Khushi said sadly.
"Yeah poor Di. I hope she meets someone very special soon," Arnav said. For a moment Arnav and Khushi were lost in the thoughts of Anjali and how a gem of a person like her had met with such a sad fate,
"If I had my way I would send Shyam to prison. But sadly, I had to limit myself to threatening" Khushi said.
"By the way Mrs ASR you are becoming good at striking deals and threatening people," Arnav said with a hint of pride.
"Shyam said that. He said that I am becoming like you. He said we are two of a kind," she smiled.
"Yeah, we are two of a kind and I hope we have created one of a kind," he said touching her baby bump.
"You bet'Our baby will be the best deal maker ever,' Khushi said and they laughed together.
