Femme Fatale
Chapter Six:
What is mine
Rules for agents 6:
Emotions are constrains…avoid them.
---------------------------------
She was crouched outside the room hearing the conversation between the father and the son. She needed to know what was happening.
"Dad why is she here?" Maan asked frustrated, "She isn't related to us"
"No, she isn't" Rajiv sounded stern, "but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be nice to her. She is here to stay Maan. Also you are only here for a week, so put up with it"
"Why can't she go back to her own house?"
"Because she has no one, she is an orphan"
She felt the words tear her, reminding her of the truth, she truly didn't belong anywhere. She might be loved by everyone but no one here was family.
She had lost her family.
-------------------------------
Maan stood amongst the most powerful men in the world, him being a part of them. The room was filled with power, money and also slight apprehension.
The Khurana's had for years been involved in defence but in particular their national defence. However these recent development crossed border lines and had made it an international issue.
Mr Stern, who was part of the World Bank, spoke, trying to gauge the gist of the matter, "So, Mr Khurana what you are basically telling us is that your company has created a new jet-"
"Not jet, for it is much more than that" Maan smirked, confident and comfortable even in the midst of these people. For his latest technology put him miles ahead of anyone. "This new….flying vehicle let's call it, can travel faster than anything created. It can be driven both manned and unmanned. It's cloaking system makes it untraceable but more importantly it has a key code that can break into any missile code, making it unbeatable. Such technology has never been created"
Ms Grace Browning, an USA delegate frowned at what he said, "Even if we believe that you were able to create that technology, it is wrong for one person to hold such power"
"And it is alright for one country to have such power?" Maan let the edge of his lips lift, as he stared arrogantly at the woman. "I know that the United States is not used to such….hmmm….having to rely on others but this technology is not for sale"
"What do you plan to do with it?" Mr Gaspard asked, with raised eyebrows. There was the usual French charm, but hidden behind it was keen intelligence.
"Well, that is for me to decide" Maan looked laid back, used to such attention. "But of course I shall provide the technology to my country first……but at a price. After that I'll let the bidding start"
"What have you named it?"
"PAR 1" Maan smoothly replied, not explaining the reasoning. "Anymore questions?"
"None at the moment but we shall definitely get back to you" Ms Browning promised.
"Well I've had enough of this lovely conversation," without any further ado, Maan got up to leave the room with General Kashyap following him. "See you all later"
"Maan, now that you've released these news, there will be people after you. Not just these people but also more dangerous ones" the general sounded worried. "What have you done?"
"Don't worry, I can look after myself" Maan patted the General on the back before his usual nonchalance took over. "I better head back….more work to do."
The General shook his head as he watched Maan walk away, I hope nothing happens to you….I hope they are protecting you.
If they couldn't protect him, none could.
----------------------
She flittered around like a butterfly, every gesture smooth and graceful. He realised that she moved like a dancer, almost with a beat. She was fast at everything she did, almost doing things before he even asked her. It wasn't that she was efficient, it was as if she worked on a different plane from everyone else.
She continued to surprise him with her….unique personality. There was really no other way to describe her. She defied any stereotyping, making it impossible to understand her.
"Geet what are you doing?" Maan asked raising an eyebrow at her while she was busily checking through his security folder. It contained details of who was employed to ensure the best security for Khurana's.
"I am checking your security sir" She said it in her usual bland and direct manner, with no care for his opinion.
With a sigh Maan asked again, "And why are you doing this?"
"Because you need an upgrade" She smiled at him, "While this maybe the state-of-art level, it is not good enough for your company. You need a stronger firewall first and better coding system. A very talented hacker would be able to break in…with time. Not to mention that you need more CCTVs at better angles."
Maan stared at her for a full minute before he managed to say, "What on earth are you talking about? How do you know so much about security?"
Geet gave her guileless grin, that didn't full Maan for even a second, "Let's just say that I have experience"
Without taking his eye off her, he picked up his phone and called his head of security, "Chadha come up here, now!"
Within minutes Maan was even more surprised, if that was possible. His head of security looked as if he was about to cry or about to fall in love with his clearly weird secretary.
Initially Chadha had dismissed Geet's claims, saying that her information was impossible. But Geet had managed to disprove it all within minutes by breaking into his system which was said to be the best in the world. After that his man seemed to be have broken down into a mess; both upset at his incompetence and in love with the girl who had shown him down.
"Ma'am how did you do it?" Chadha asked with adoring eyes at Geet while Maan rolled his eyes.
As if she was a school teacher, Geet patted the poor man's head before explain, "Computers are like men. You cannot let them know that you are manipulating them, otherwise they'll put up their defences. You have to work with them to beat them."
The man listened to her talk with rapt attention, but Maan had enough. "That is enough of your enlightening explanations about the male species and electronics. Chadha go back to work!"
"Okay back to the question, how do you know so much about security?" Maan leaned forward so that he could see her face better.
"We all have our secrets" She gave a smirk and leaned forward. For a moment Maan felt that she was letting down her shields. "All of us have our little hidden talents"
"A woman with secrets is a dangerous object" he countered, falling into battle with her subconsciously.
"And a woman without secrets is bland" she pulled back and he could see the barriers go up again. He could see the complacent look on her face that didn't fool him for a second. "Well sir, I need to go for a second, I have to do something."
"Where?" He frowned at her sudden change of topic.
"It's private"
"You are still working, so I have the right to know" Maan didn't understand why he was pushing the issue, but she was so secretive that it made him curious.
"I need to pee" She kept smiling even as she said this, as always without any shame.
Maan sighed, used to her comments, "Okay, next time just say I have to carry out "bodily functions" instead of details."
"But sir, I didn't give any details" She continued. "I didn't say anything like, "oh I'll urinate and then use toilet paper" And sir it's not my fault if we females have small bladders."
"Just go!"
As she walked away, Maan just shook his head in frustration, crazy girl! And then against his will he started to laugh.
That is how his father found him as he walked into his room.
"Someone seems very happy today" Rajiv smiled at his son as he entered.
"Hi Dad" Maan stood up and went to hug his father. "It's been ages since you came to here"
"Well, young man your father may have retired but I still know this office better than anyone else" Rajiv countered. "And I certainly didn't create as much ruckus as you do."
Maan smirked, "Well, what can I say dad? I just have the charm"
Rajiv snorted as he laughed, "Charm my foot. All those women after you are driving your mother crazy"
"Well, is it my fault that the women like me?" Maan chuckled, as always in his element.
Just then Geet came barrelling through the door while saying, "I've done my bodily functions sir. Ready to work again!"
Maan smiled indulgently at her inane comment as Rajiv turned towards Geet.
"Geet this is my father" Maan introduced the two, "Father this is Geet Handa, my secretory"
"Nice to meet you" Rajiv smiled at the girl.
Maan expected Geet to shake his father's hand but instead folded her hands to say "Namaste sir"
Very traditional, Maan thought but was pleased to see his father smile with real pleasure at the gesture.
He was about to talk when his phone rang. It was a call from Adi regarding one of the accounts that needed his urgent attention. So he turned to his father, "Dad I have to run off but you should wait here for me"
"Don't worry sir, I'll keep you company" Geet reassured Rajiv.
"Alright" Maan spoke even as he thought, hope she doesn't shock father, and walked out leaving the two alone.
As soon as the coast was clear, Geet's face broke into a big grin and she went to embrace Rajiv.
"Baba, I've missed you" She clutched on tightly.
Rajiv's eyes misted with tears of happiness as he held the girl he loved as his own child, "I missed you too darling"
---------------------
She was hiding under the table so that no one could see her cry but it wasn't long before she was found.
Rajiv tried to coax her to come out. "Please darling come out"
"No" She whimpered, not wanting to face anyone, especially not that evil Maan!
"What happened dear, at least tell me?" Rajiv was worried to see his little girl in this state.
"I don't belong here" Her voice held such pain, that it softened even Maan's heart.
"I am sorry" He said, without needing any push from Rajiv. "I was rude"
Bending underneath the table, Maan reached forward and pulled out the squirming child. He was just as stubborn and didn't take no for an answer.
"I don't like you!" She pouted even as she had tears on her face. "You are mean!"
"Come on darling" Rajiv admonished gently, "If someone says sorry, you have to forgive them"
Grudgingly she nodded, not being able to refuse her dear baba, "It is okay"
Maan stuck out his hand, "Friends?"
"Friends"
