Part 42

Days passed by, with both of them following their routine during early days of marriage except for occasional talks. But both were again busy with work and Geet's had her semester exams soon. Besides, as Prem-Priya's marriage was nearing, she had to help Priya for shopping and other stuff. They seldom got time to think over their relation. The only improvement was in Geet's health. She had taken care as she didn't want him to be worried for her. Finally it was Prem's sangeet function. It was held at Mittal Mansion. Geet got ready in a white lehenga complimenting Maan's sherwani. When Maan came out after dressing, he was amazed seeing her looking divine in that dress.

She was struggling to tie the knots as usual. Maan went near her and took the thread in his hand. Her hands stilled at his touch. He tied the knot and left knowing that he won't be able to control his senses after having her near. He didn't want to force her for anything. But the thought that crossed Geet's mind was something entirely different. She felt that he has become repulsive to her touch. Tears rolled down her eyes at that thought. How can he accept the fact that his wife had an intimate relation with someone else? She wanted to tell him saying he is, was and will always be the only one to touch her. But she can't do it as it will bring only hurt and pain to him. She thought if he is reluctant to even touch her then how she can impose a decision to be with her for the whole life time. May be he is doing all these because he felt sorry for her. She can't let him compromise his life for her. He deserved to be happy and if it means that she has to leave him, she will do it. She wiped her tears and got ready. All of them left to Mittal Mansion.

Priya was there looking beautiful in a green lehenga with Sohan's parents. Prem was looking handsome in a sea-green sherwani. Mr. Mittal had invited Chopras too as they were business partners from long. Sameera and Vivek also had accompanied him. The function started and Geet was keeping herself away from dancing as she didn't want to put Maan in an awkward position. He may not want to dance with her. Her doubts were confirmed when Maan denied to dance. She felt something snap within her. She knew their relation is going weaker.

She was about to leave to a corner before anyone notice her when Ayan pulled her to dance. She couldn't deny him and danced with him for a while. After the dance, Ayan announced next to be a couple dance and pulled Maan near her and left. She looked around to find Meera-Dev, Prem-Priya and Sameera-Vivek staring lovingly at each other. May be she can only dream of that love they shared and she can't give him that. Maan was debating on whether to dance or not. He thought to dance otherwise it will lead to suspicions. He looked at Geet who appeared lost in her thoughts.

He slowly held her hand with his right hand and placed his left on her waist. She looked up and placed her hand on his chest. He looked into her eyes which used to speak up every untold emotion in her heart but they were blank like there was no life left inside. He felt that his breathe has stopped seeing the lifelessness in her eyes. Has he pushed her too far, did he do the right thing by giving her time to decide herself? Just then the song started playing in the background..

She looked into his eyes blankly while moving along with the song. She thought, they could never get along happily. She could never give him the happiness he deserved.

She was slowly slipping into the darkness engulfing her, into hopelessness. There was nothing she could do without giving him pain which she prefer not to do ever.

With each move he didn't know that she was drifting far away from him.

He wanted to hug her, kiss her and tell that he can't even think of a moment away from her but he was feeling helpless for the first time in his life. He didn't want their life to be a decision made forcefully. He wanted her to acknowledge it herself. But now he doubted whether it was right to do so seeing her blank eyes which always used to profess her love for him.

He felt like his life was slipping away when the song ended. He hugged her tight not caring about the surroundings. Geet was shocked by the sudden hug but composed herself soon. She could feel a certain fear in his hug. She didn't know why but she felt a need to console him. She moved her hands to hug him and patted his back like soothing him. The song ended and Geet was still in his embrace. Others had stopped dancing and were gazing at them in each others embrace completely unaware of everything around. Sameera had noticed them while dancing and found something wrong as she couldn't see the spark in their eyes which she saw last time while they were dancing. There was a certain pain in their hug too, but couldn't decipher why? She decided to talk to Geet next day at office.

Annie came forward and tapped Maan's shoulder and told, "Bhai, dance khatam hogaya." Both came out of the reverie and was embarrassed seeing everyone staring at them smiling. Geet pulled back and left to the side before others start teasing. While Maan made his way towards some of the acquaintances to avoid them. Prem couldn't have left them without teasing but left them as it was his special day. Geet went to a lone corner and was breathing heavily. She could still sense the fear in his hold. Why was he afraid? Does he really want her in his life? She was in a dilemma. She decided to talk to him about her decision that day. They left for KM after the Sangeet was over.

Geet came to their room after giving Maan enough time to change and go to bed. But when she came in she saw him waiting for her. He came near her and told, "Geet, I'm sorry about today. I just got carried away." That answered her doubts and she simply shook her head. He was about to leave when she told, "Agar aap thak nahi jaye tho kya hum baat kar sakthe hain?" There was certain coldness in her voice that he felt something wrong. He turned and told, "Geet, mein tired nahi hoon. Hum baat kar sakthe hain." He went to sit in the bed and she seated beside him.

She looked at her hands like it was something interesting, avoiding his gaze and told, "Mein jaanti hoon ki aapko yeh sab karna aasaan nahi he. Aap ke jagah koyi aur hota tho shayad mein aaj iss ghar mein aapke saath nahi hoti. Koi bhi pati apne patni ki aisi ateet bardash nahi kar saktha. Mujhe pata he aap mere khatir adjust kar raha he. Par aapko yeh sab karne ki zaroorat nahi he. Mujhe pata he mera aas paas hona bhi aapko meri bewafayi ki yaad dilatha he. Aur aaj jobhi waha hua aap woh sab karna nahi chahthe the. I don't want to put you in such situations further. I don't want you to compromise your life for me. Mein aapke zindagi se door jaane ko tayyar hoon, yahi aap keliye acha hoga."

Her each word was like needles piercing his soul. He knew, he had hurt her again with the distance he put between them. He knew, she felt that he was repulsed by her touch, she felt that he was trying to compromise for their relation. He could see how selfless her love is, not even once did she mention about her, what it will be for her. He asked keeping his emotions in check, "And you Geet, what about you?" She told, "Aapko meri chintha karne ki zaroorat nahi he. Please." Maan stood up and held her by her shoulders. He was shaking with anger and agony and told, "Geet, jab meine tumhe decision lene ko kaha tha, meine yeh nahi kaha tha ki tum mereliye decision lelo. Mein chahtha tha ki tum yahi sochlo ki tumhe kya chahiye, na ki mereliye kya acha he. Mujhe apne zindagi mein kya chahiye mujhe ache se pata he. Par meine yeh chaha tha ki tum iss baar apne baare mein sochke decision lelo. Par tum ne tho hadh kardi Geet. Doosron ke baare mein sochna acha he lekin itna bhi mat socho ki khud ke zindagi barbad hojaye."

He pulled her to stand and told, "Aur tumhe kya laga, mein tumse isliye door reh raha tha kyunki mujhe tumhare paas rehna pasand nahi he. Geet, mein tumse isliye door reh raha tha kyunki mein tum par koi dabaav nahi dalna chahtha tha. Mein tumse door nahi reh saktha.. I love you dammit.." Geet looked at his face for sometime and smiled; the genuine smile he was missing for the past few months and hugged him tight. No more words were required for him to know what she wanted. He hugged her tight never to let go. Now he knows that she will never demand anything and will accept everything that comes her way. But he will make her wishes come true. They stayed in each others embrace feeling contended. The past doesn't matter, all that transpired yet in their lives doesn't matter, the only thing that mattered was their love and it managed to win over all the adversities. Her love was not unrequited..

Hi dearies, I know you all want Maan to know about the night. But if he starts to get close to her after knowing about the night, do you think that Geet will be assured that he loves her?
