Bollywood has been making blockbuster hits by remaking South films. And the fad seems to be lasting even now. Vikas Bahl and Anurag Kashyap's production house Phantom has now bought the rights of SS Rajamouli directed Telegu film MAGADHEERA.

Vikas has also confirmed that Ranveer singhwill be playing the central character in the film. "MAGADHEERA is a passion project for us at Phantom and we are excited to have the rights to recreate this magical piece of work that blew us. Ranveer is the best thing that could have happened to it. He has all the ingredients to be a passionate lover, a warrior and an entertainer," asserts Bahl.

The lead actress and the director of the film are yet to be finalised. The Hindi version is reportedly being made on a budget of Rs 50 crore and it will go on floors later this year.

Ranveer Singh in Magadheera remake

(23 January 2012 11:15 am)

MUMBAI: After months of keeping the industry in suspense, producers Vikas Bahl and Anurag Kashyap have signed Ranveer Singh to play the lead role in the Hindi remake of the 2009 Telugu hit Magadheera.

With his signing, Singh has edged out Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor, the names of whom that were constantly doing the rounds.

Confirming the same, Bahl said, "Magadheera is a passion project for us, and we are excited to have the rights to re-create this magical piece of work. Ranveer is the best thing that could have happened to it.

He has all the ingredients to be a passionate lover, a warrior and an entertainer, all at the same time. All the fans of Magadheera are coming together to recreate its magic with the support of Allu Arvind, the producer of the original film."

Magadheera is a historic love story. Set against the backdrop of 17th century India, the film is said to have an estimated budget of Rs 50 crore.

Preparing for the role, Singh will undergo intense physical training. He will also interact with Ram Charan, who played the lead in the original, to get some valueable inputs.

W*F. i cant believe I missed this news. Anurag kashyap is directing? W*F. that is super wierd.

Okay, ranveer makes sense to the extent that literally no-one else could probably play the magadheera role the way Ram Charan Teja did. Maybe Prateik Babbar could too, but ranveer has more of the body for such a role.

The movie itself was nothing mindblowing, but i watched it for RCT who was ridiculously hot during all the 'historical' bits. Kajal Aggarwal was also quite cute. the songs were pretty iconic. overall its like a gigantic telugu masala film.

Also, people keep raving about the special effects. I don't get it, the special effects were pretty shit. It looked like video game graphics. which is fine but I dont understand why the film is advertised as one of the 'best special effects' films. strange.

its a fun film nonetheless.

heres a song:

^ Ahh I see. my error. Either way its still strange though, its not his usual flavor but who knows - perhaps kashyap doing blockbusters will strike some sort of chord
