Hi

Its wonderful to know that you have started another crime/thriller. I absolutely love reading the short snippets on Maan & Geet, your sense of humor is very good and you have a very good command over language. You are a very talented writer, keep saying that on FB, there I post comments by the name of Annie Jose.

It will be a pleasure reading "Eternal Return"

Regards
Watergirl😊

Chapter 1:

The guard peeked into the room with two women sitting opposite to each other in rickety plastic chair and an old table. The older woman had a notebook open in front of her and was taking notes from time to time. A younger woman sat opposite to her and was talking about something probably very important. It was his first day at the job and the first advice he had received from his seniors was – "Don't believe everything you see. Don't judge things that you think you understand; they are probably wrong. Come to work, do your job and go home." The remaining left unsaid and being a smart man had understood on the first day itself. Working at a mental facility wasn't all that easy, he had realized.

"Geet, you have been seeing me for almost four years now. Don't you agree that we have made enough progress?" Geet didn't respond for several minutes.

"I don't know Dr. Vandana. I feel that there are still some topics left that we haven't addressed." She trailed. She looked up and saw that the older woman was jotting down her inferences.

"We haven't talked about the unresolved issues with your father in a while," Dr. Vandana noted.

The guard saw that the younger woman Geet was shifting in her chair nervously.

"The circumstances in which he died and things that events that led to it would make me apprehensive to talk about it. Don't you think so?" Geet questioned Dr. Vandana.

"You were young back then Geet. Loss of a primary male figure in your life influenced development of love map." Dr. Vandana responded. Geet's eyes narrowed at that.

"I am not sure if I understand you Dr. Vandana," she said.

"Seventeen is a very tender age Geet. A parent must practice extreme caution while dealing with pre-adolescents. They have to be…protected from the evils of the world," Dr. Vandana said haltingly. Geet looked at the older woman under her eyelashes carefully observing plethora of emotions dancing on the older woman's face.

"Did you protect any of them Dr. Vandana, given how you specialize in that area after all?" Geet questioned.

The doctor didn't respond to Geet immediately. She jotted notes for several minutes and then cleared her throat.

"I did, actually. Seven of them," she said. "I wish I could save more but I am glad that I could at least help those kids." She added.

"Oops! Our time is up!" She exclaimed looking at the wall clock.

"Will I see you again Dr. Vandana?" Geet asked as she saw two women in overalls along with a doctor came into the room. She sighed. Dr. Vandana was indeed right.

"Of course we will. Next time, we will talk about your past love life!" Dr. Vandana replied in a grin.

The guard stood outside the door watching all the proceedings with mild fascination.

"Wait. You are not a patient here?" He asked flabbergasted. Geet smiled and shook her head.

"Then why…" He asked look at her with a shock on his face.

"Dr. Vandana killed seven teens she was counseling who were sexually abused by their families. In her mind she was sending them to a better place. I have been working on her case for more than four years now trying to find out the burial ground. We still haven't found the bodies yet," she said thoughtfully.

"So you come here and act as her patient?" The guard asked still reeling in surprise.

"It is something like that. When she is lucid, she is completely horrified at the act she has committed and is truly sorry for that. But she can't remember where she has buried the bodies," Geet shrugged.

"You are new here, aren't you?" Geet asked as the guard escorted her out. He nodded. "It will get better." She said with a grin. She noted with a hint of smile that the guard looked even more perplexed than before.

She walked briskly into a ladies room changing her overalls to her street clothes and made a hurried exit out of the building. The mental health facility catered to a wide diaspora of illness and mental conditions. Geet being a psychologist herself had her own share of patients residing in that facility making her a common visitor.

Though she came from an affluent family, she had chosen to follow her father's line of work. The decision had come to her quite easily since her father had left her enough material to study on and his peer group had given her more than warm welcome into their community. Once she acquired her doctorate, she had continued her work at the university helping research students and interns.

And like her father, she was one of the consulting psychologists for the police department.

Once out of building, warm sea air brushed her curly locks and the early evening sun made her eyes squint. She saw a figure standing few feet away waved once she was in his eyesight.

She recognized the figure and by looking at his grim expression, she sighed.

"How bad is it?" She asked.

"One of the worst," he replied and guided her through maze of cars and finally opening door of a jeep. She thanked him for his chivalry and latched on seatbelt.

"What's your justification for my consult?" She asked robotically. She knew that he wouldn't come to her unless he truly believed that her consult was required. But she followed the protocol her father had set up where the police department justified a consultant on the investigation team.

"Extreme violence and post mortem mutilation," he replied and guided the jeep towards the exit.

"What's your gut feeling Maan?" She asked ACP Maan Singh Khurana.

"It's him." He said grimly.

She shook her head and dropped her head back on the head rest and tilted it to see the sea pass by her.

To be continued.
