Part 13

To an outsider, it was like any other day, everything happened just like it should've been. College students got ready, and moved off to college. No one saw anything different, and was busy with their own work. But for Samrat, the day was a very unique one. He was going to the college, with loads of thoughts playing in his mind. There were many arguments within him, between his heart and mind, between his actions and thoughts, and what not. For the first time in life, he was full of doubts of himself. For once, he had no clue as to what was he supposed to say when he saw Gunjan. But keeping all aside, he got dressed in his most casual clothes, without even bothering to check if his looks matched his daily standards, and rushed up to the college.

In the college, Principal had called all the teachers for some meeting, and so, their lectures would start later than usual. Samrat was leaning on the bonnet of his car, with his hands folded beneath his head, lost in his own dreams. The gang rested on nearby bikes, where Adhiraj was showing off his guitar playing skills by giving off small tips to Sumit and Chako, while Simran flaunted her dress to Anny, and Suhaani who was irritated, pretended to be interested. Samrat was playing the first day of the college in his mind, when Gunjan had made a grand entry, and surprised the whole college with her unique guts to disobey their gang. Samrat smiled off at the fact that she'd become such an important part of all the people of the college. Everyone liked her for some or the other reason. Not just that, his own group had gelled up so well with her. Some time before, Samrat could never imagine his friends befriending anyone else, when Suhaani also didnt get along too much with them, despite the fact that she was his sister. But now, not only Suhaani, but also Adhiraj was clubbed with them, all thanks to Gunjan.

It was all of a sudden. Samrat felt a restlessness pass through him, and he realised that he was missing Gunjan, very much right now. There was a sudden deep desire, as well as a need that arose in him, to see her. He just couldnt help come out of it, it felt like this need was choking him, and he immediately jumped down the bonnet. He moved off in Suhaani's direction, to ask her about Gunjan's whereabouts, when his eyes involuntarily turned towards the gate, for a second, and went back to look for Suhaani. A second passed, when his mind registered the facts, and he stopped to turn towards the gate. He stood frozen at the sight his eyes captured.

Gunjan had just entered the gates of the college, and had Samrat's heart not started thumping loudly, he wouldnt have believed her to be Gunjan. Hair tied in a high tigh ponytail, beautiful big framed specs covering the eyes, with her usual smile, Gunjan was dressed in a pink spaghetti, covered by a long netted kurti that reached her knees. Her kurti was buttoned till her stomach, and was slit open from there to her knees. She held some books in her hand, while carrying a creamish handbag on her shoulders. A blue denim jeans adorned her legs, and a pair of 2 inch high pink coloured stilletoes gave a finishing touch to her appearance. As she came closer, Samrat saw a part of her flat stomach, which was visible due to the shortness of the spaghetti she was wearing, revealing her belly button. She was dressed in tight fitted clothes from top to button, accentuating her perfectly carved figure. Millions of feelings arose at once in Samrat's heart, as his throat went dry with the burning passion in him. All in all, Samrat thought that she looked way too hot and sexy for him to handle. But despite all this, there was something about her, that floated in the air, and Samrat just couldnt bring himself to call her either of the words that his mind was forming. She looked like an untouched flower, that just bathed in the morning dew, and was here to spread smiles to everyone with its fragrance. He could just mumble one thing for her,

"Beautiful"

Samrat thought that Gunjan did look at him for a fraction of second, but he cancelled it as a figment of his imagination. Samrat knew he was going crazy, falling for Gunjan. He could even listen to music playing right now, and he smacked his head. Gunjan was just at a distance of few feet, when he turned his head, just to see Adhiraj actually play the guitar, and the close by guys started singing following the tune.

Yeh roop aur yeh rangat
Yeh chaal aur yeh nazakat
Kaisi hai yeh kayamat
Ab koi kya kahe

Gunjan gave a surprised look, as all the guys bent on their knees, on either sides, to give way to her as she passed.

Yeh roop aur yeh rangaat
Yeh chaal aur yeh nazakat
Kaisi hai yeh kayamat
Ab koi kya kahe

Adhiraj, Sumit and Chako, all three in a line, blocked her way as they sang, while Adhiraj continued to strum the guitar. She tried backing off, but Suhaani, Simran and Annie stood behind her, and snatched her books and bag. Gunjan also spread her arms slowly, as she hummed.

Main chali
Toh jhoom uthi zindagi
Main chali
Toh jaag uthi roshni
Mausam naya
Nayi nayi hawayein hai
Mein hoon nayi
Nayi meri adaayein hai

Everyone looked surprised for a second, at the ease with which Gunjan sang and moved her body. But to Samrat, she was doing nothing but arousing his sleeping desires by her beautiful sensuous moves.

Main chali
Toh jhoom uthi zindagi
Main chali
Toh jaag uthi roshni
Mausam naya
Nayi nayi hawayein hai
Mein hoon nayi
Nayi meri adaayein hai

All the people present around also got into the mood. Gunjan walked in glory with the girls imating and folloeing her, while the boys got together and sang for the girls.

Teri zulf ki ghatayein
Teri shokh si nigaahein
Kaisi hai yeh balayein
Ab koi kya kahe
Teri zulf ki ghatayein
Teri shokh si nigaahein
Kaisi hai yeh balayein
Ab koi kya kahe

They all danced in synchronisation. Gunjan went to sit on a table, and placing her face on her palm, she sat in a thinking mode. She looked at Samrat and turned her face.

Duniyaa badli hai
Mera andaaz na kyun badle
Sab kuch toh hai badal gaya..
Gunjaa hai joh geet naya
Toh saaz na kyun badle
Mera bhi sur hai naya
Nayi nayi si hai meri raahein
Naya naya mera safar hai
Nayi nayi si hai meri chaahein
Nayi nayi meri nazar hai, haan
Nayi nayi meri nazar hai

Samrat saw the hidden pain in her eyes, as she sang these words, accusing him for the change in her. But it was replaced by a hard determined look, which scared him somehow. Adhiraj came and snapped a finger in front of her, and took her, as she danced in turn with him, and a few other guys as well.

Tere nain hai niraale
Madira ke jaise pyale
Sambhle na dil sambhale
Ab koi kya kahe
Tere nain hai niraale
Madira ke jaise payale
Sambhle na dil sambhale
Ab koi kya kahe

The girls were all lined up, sitting on the stage, moving their legs in sync with the music. Gunjan came and sat amongst them, and danced imagining beautiful fantasies.

Dil chahe ke leke sitaare
Haar banaloon main
Chaand ho meri bindiyaa
Sagar ki saari lehrein
Aanchal mein sajaloon main
Jane kya chahe yeh jiya
Koi samjhe toh samjhe diwaani
Mujko hai parwah kya
Main jani toh bus itna hi jani
Dil dhoondhta hai raah kya
Oh..dil dhoondhta hai raah kya

Suhaani who sat next to Gunjan, gave her a push, and the guys came with a big net, in which she fell, and they all cradled her.

Tu hai kaise rang layi
Kaisi tarang layi
Kaisi umaang layi
Ab koi kya kahe
Tu hai kaise rang layi
Kaisi tarang layi
Kaisi umaang layi
Ab koi kya kahe

They put the net down, and Adhiraj immediately caught Gunjan, and took her to dance with him, as she sang lightly. Next came Chako, and then Sumit, who took turns to dance, and as Gunjan was too lost in her world, she did not realise when Sumit had left her, to move to Adhiraj. She moved aimlessly, when Samrat came in the way, and caught her, keeping a hand on her waist, such that she was held in his firm grip. Gunjan was a bit surprised by the sudden-ness of the move, but she knew who the person was, even without seeing the face. She lifted her face, and looking directly in his eyes, she sang the last lines.

Samrat saw her smiling as she looked into his eyes. Always, he'd seen a different look in her eyes, when she stared into his, and he used to get lost in it. But today, her eyes said something else. He couldnt read her feelings in her eyes. They didnt have a cold expression, as he'd expected, but they were missing the usual warmth she always had. It was an something that he was totally alien to. Samrat got worried at this fact, and looked at her with his worry reflecting in his eyes, as Gunjan maintained the smile on her face.

Main chali toh jhoom uthi zindagi
Main chali toh jaag uthi roshni
Mausam naya
Nayi nayi hawayein hai
Mein hoon nayi
Nayi meri adaayein hai
Ho..ooo.ooo..
Ho..ooo.ooo..
Umm..umm.uumm
Umm..umm.uumm

"Ehem ehem...", Gunjan sightly coughed, to catch Samrat's attention, but failed.

"Er.. Samrat, can you please let go, sab dekh rahe hain", Gunjan spoke, getting aware of a few looks they were getting from the people who'd stopped dancing. But Samrat seemed to be too lost to listen to her. He could only vaguely listen to what she spoke, but when the words registered in his mind, he felt a jerk, as out of nowhere, Adhiraj came and snatched off Gunjan from his hold. Samrat came out of his revrie, and saw that his gang along with Suhaani had encircled Gunjan, while Adhiraj glanced at her from top to bottom before he spoke,

"Gunjan, you look so different, just full on sexy, sizzling hot, sabko jala ke rakh dia. I mean dont take me wrong, but tumhare liye koi aur word samajh hie nahi aa raha...", Adhiraj struggled with words, while Gunjan looked at him with an open mouth.

"Tere pass words nahi hain na, kitna useless hai mera boy-friend, main batati hoon. Gunjan, tu bilkul patakha lag rahi hai, atom bomb jaisi", saying this, Suhaani pressed her fingers between her lips, and blew a high pitched whistle. Gunjan laughed loudly at this, along with the others, while Adhiraj's ears went red with embarassment. Surprisingly, Samrat found this act of Adhiraj very cute, but that was when he noticed Gunjan. She was the same old Gunjan right now, like always, the way she used to laugh earlier with them all. Her smile made her eyes glow, and Samrat wondered if she was giving the indifferent treatment only to him. But she did not seem perturbed by yesterday's happenings, so he also moved towards them. The others were questioning her about the sudden change in her. She was about to speak something, when Samrat went to stand next to them. Gunjan stopped for a second, and Samrat thought now she would not answer them, courtsey his presence. But he saw her moving her hand recklessly in her handbag, and fish out her cell phone from it, which seemed to vibrate rapidly. Looking at the caller's name, she said,

"Guys, just a sec, important call hai. I'll be back in a minute", saying this, she went a little away from the group and took the call. Samrat's heart did a somersault to see her talk with some other person with so much ease and comfort. She seemed really relaxed as she talked, Samrat could make it out from her body language. A pang of jealousy crossed him, when he thought about the call being from a guy. But he sated his heart by telling himself that it was a call from some family member, maybe even her 'Benji Jeeju', about whom Suhaani also talked a lot, considering he was Adhiraj's cousin. Finally after some time, what seemed like an eternity to Samrat, Gunjan cut the call, and joined them all back.

"Sorry people, for the distraction. Now, going back to where we were, ye mera sudden transformation, i dunno. I mean, seriously, mujhe koi idea nahi hai. Its just that i wake up one morning, today morning to be precise, and find myself brainwashed. Aur tum sabko dekhne ko milti hai, ye nayi changed Gunjan", Gunjan spoke with added accent, but everyone looked with disbelief at her. She threw her hands in the air, with an expression of giving up, and said,

"Ok guys, simple explanation ye hai ki yesterday i spent some quality time with Bhabs (Samrat saw Suhaani mouth the word 'Bhabs' with shock and Gunjan gave her a reassuring look). And unhe laga it was time i needed some change in my life (Gunjan easily hid the fact that Tamanna had only advised her to bring changes in her thought, and a change in her appearance was her personal idea). Unhone poochha hie aise, ki main mana nahi kar payi, and lo! Result tum sabke saamne hai", Gunjan gave a sweet innocent smile, and Samrat knew no one could now object to her explanation. Although he also didnt want to argue with this point, but somehow, his heart disagreed. He couldnt bring himself to believe that after yesterday's incident, the sudden change in her was just a coincidence. But her behavior suggested otherwise. It kind of convinced him that her transformation had nothing to do with anything that took place yesterday.

"Guys, i think lectures start hone ka time ho gaya hai. Let's go, verna hum late ho jayenge", Gunjan looked at her watch and said. Everyone agreed, and started walking in groups to the class. Their classes were next to each other, so they walked just behind each other. Adhiraj and Suhaani walked with Gunjan sandwiched between them, as they talked to her in rapid whispers, while Gunjan just smiled as she saw their anxiousness. Anny and Chako walked with Simran, who was telling them about the latest store that had opened recently. Among both of these groups, Samrat walked with Sumit, who was ranting something about God knows what. Samrat was trying hard to listen to the conversation the people in front of him were having, with no success at all. Their classroom had arrived, and giving a last longing look to the three people who walked infront, Samrat was just about to turn to enter, but his feet froze in their place, when he heard something.

"Samrat"

Samrat felt he was hallucinating, or it was just a piece of his beautiful imagination. He'd just heard Gunjan call him, and this was like a dream come true. He turned his face in the direction of her voice, and to his surprise, Gunjan stood there, looking a bit anxiously at him. It was as if she had some doubts if he'd respond to her call. He saw her hesitate a bit, before she spoke,

"I wanted to talk to you, could i have a second"

It took a few seconds for her words to sink in him, but when they did, Samrat looked on his sides to see all his friends had stopped for some reason.

"Guys, tum log chalo, main 5 minute mein aaya", he spoke casually, and saw that Gunjan's tension had relaxed a bit. When they'd gone inside, he went to stand next to Gunjan, who looked as if fighting an inner battle whether to talk to him or not. Finaly, to his relief, she did plan to talk to him.

"Samrat"

He was lost in the magic his name created, when her lips moved to speak it.

"Huh?", he gave her a dreamy look, and this irritated Gunjan a bit.

"Samrat, tum sun rahe ho?", she spoke a bit loudly now, leaning her face a bit. Samrat came out from his lala land, and saw Gunjan's frown. He also leaned his upper body, such that his face was only inches away from hers, and his eyes bore into hers. He saw Gunjan also maintain the eye contact with him, but today, he couldnt find the magic that was usually created amongst them.

"Tumhe kuch yaad bhi rehta hai ya nahi, sab kuch meri responsibility nahi hai, samjhe?", Gunjan asked, without breaking the eye contact.

Samrat was taken aback by her response, and the way she'd asked, he racked his memory for an answer to her question, but he just gave her a blank look. She pulled back her head, and he imitated her. Instead, he moved a step closer to her, and thankfully, she didnt imitate him.

"Kal Principal sir se meri baat hui hai, college ke newspaper ke baare mein. He thinks ki though the print is going well, but he's expecting a bit more from us. He thinks he's got the best team this year (And Gunjan mumbled what looked like a swear, and this shocked Samrat to no limits. Gunjan Bhushan was using a swear word, that too for her respectable Principal sir, this day was definitey going to histroy. Wiping the frown that had appeared on her forehead, with the swear word, she continued) Anyways, i have put up a notice for a meeting, when the college ends, in the music room, to discuss all this. And since you are the Editor, i thought to inform you. I mean i know ki i arranged it all without asking you, but you know, i just... as in...", Gunjan looked down, as she fumbled with words. Samrat immediately placed his hands on her shoulders and gave a small squeeze. Gunjan looked at him, and he saw confusion in them.

"Gunjan, its ok. You are the Editor's Assistant, right, and since i am being such a highly unresponsible jerk, so anything you do, is alright. You are not misusing your power in any way (Gunjan looked wide eyed at him, for reading her thought) Haan haan, i understood ki you were feeling guilty for this reason alone. So just chill out, ok, i'll be there for the meeting, and tumhare Professor aa chuke hain. Go to the class, i'll catch you later", he gave her body a turn, and Gunjan moved to her class, without a word. Samrat waited there, waiting for a last turn from her, but she went straight to her class. Samrat gave a sigh, and moved to his class.

hi people, i am back, late again, but with an update. i have no excuses this time for being late, anyone has any punishments, please let me know. till then, please have a look at the update.

Part 14

Samrat didnt see Gunjan the whole day. He could only think about the events of yesterday, and today. His life had taken a 360 degree turn in such a short time. He had been dreading the worst reaction from Gunjan, but instead, she was talking to him, very normally. Not just that, she wasnt avoiding him, and even called him by his name. It did wonders for his heart, and he thought he might just die of over excitement. Gunjan's new appearance just added to it. His heart was actually having a hard time to keep his mind in control from thinking too much about what a temptation she looked. He admitted she looked out of the world today, but somewhere in a small corner of his mind, he was missing the older Gunjan. With the usual warmth and sparkle in her eyes, that sweet innocent look of hers, those long black locks if hair covering her face, just everything. He knew that today, every guy in the college wished that Gunjan was their girlfriend. Infact, he'd heard that many of them had even asked her out, and she'd kindly refused everyone, to his own relief. Finally, when all the classes had been finished, Samrat bade farewell to his friends reminding the team members to reach in time for the meeting.

He'd reached before time, and found the music room empty. The memories of yesterday hit him, and he hesitated a bit from entering the room. But the sight of the guitar pulled him in, and taking the guitar, he strummed his latest tune, which was just soft enough to calm his anxious mind, as he lost himself.

When he knew he felt a bit relaxed, he opened his eyes, only to find Gunjan sitting on the table opposite him, with her eyes closed, and swaying to the melody of his music. As soon as she realised that the music had stopped, she opened her eyes immediately. Colour rose to her cheek, when she saw Samrat looking at her.

"I'm sorry, wo bas, actually music itna appealing tha, i couldnt bring myself to disturb you. The music is beautiful, you know, ethereal. Ek alag hie duniya mein le jata hai, totally enchanting", she spoke. Samrat loved the way her face was flushed crimson when she gave her explanation. He wanted to say something, but stopped when he heard the others come in. Adhiraj walked in Suhaani, and Samrat actually felt like smacking them, for disturbing the moment. Next Anny came in with Chako, followed by many others, including Simran and Sumit. Samrat saw most of the guys giving Gunjan a wistful look, and Gunjan sat fidgeting, aware of the looks she was receiving. Samrat stood up, hoping to gain everyone's attention, but failed. So he coughed a bit loudly, and that fulfilled his purpose.

"So guys, you all have been doing a good job, i really appreciate it. But you know our Princi, right? He wants us all to work harder (everyone grimaced at that), i know people, our performance has been good, but cant help it, can i? So i need some innovative ideas, from each section, something new, original, anything will do. Buck up your brains, with some creativity, c'mon", Samrat moved around the room, and saw everyone jump into the ocean of thoughts. His eyes fell on Gunjan, who was busy texting someone, and a few seconds later, her face glowed, as she smiled brightly.

"I've got an idea", Suhaani's voice caught Samrat's attention.

"Shoot", Samrat replied, as everyone's eyes rested on Suhaani.

"Hamare newspaper mein hamesha do cheezon ke baare mein hota hai, one - about the major happenings in our country, and the world, and two - major happenings in our college. How about we widen our sphere a bit?", Suhaani said philosophically.

"Poori world ki khabrein to hoti hain hamare pass, ab kya universe ke baare mein bhi likhein?", Chako said, and everyone laughed off. Samrat smiled at this, and Suhaani was about to answer back, but Gunjan held her hand.

"Chako, i am sure you have a brilliant and a better idea", Gunjan said very calmly. Everyone waited for Chako to speak, who was at a loss of words. When he did not speak for a minute, Gunjan continued.

"Jab khudke pass idea na ho, to dusron par hie rely karna padta hai, chahe wo idea kitna hie bura kyun na lage. Suhaani, you explain your strategy", Gunjan said. Chako felt embarassed, while Suhaani smirked. Samrat grinned as Suhaani began to speak.

"Dekho, all of the news that we have, is on a larger scale, always. How about we individualise our targets?"

"Like how?", Adhiraj asked.

"Its simple, humein apna focus shift karna hoga, we'll get some small scale news. Lets print the thoughts of individual people, common people, instead of all big time celebrities in the world, who dont even know we exist, and about whom we give a damn", Suhaani spoke with high excitement.

"I'm getting your point. Its like making the newspaper more fun, fun for people who are out of their teenage, but still young for the outside world", Sumit added.

"Bingo", Suhaani high-fived with him.

"Hmm, nice one. I like the idea, well done Suhaani (Samrat spoke with a glint of pride) Ab bas humein is idea ko extend karna hai, and use karna hai in everyone's personal columns", Samrat's excitement was emitting from his face.

"Guys, we can go to malls, markets, and other public places, and interview people. Get their views on anything and everything according to our columns. Be it fashion, politics, environment, bollywood, relations, sab chalega", Simran added.

"Yeah, is se we'll have so much variety of opinions. I can just imagine it", Annie bubbled up.

Samrat loved the energetic vibes that flew in the room, and somehow, he thought it was all because of Gunjan.

"I totally agree with you all, and i think that's a cool idea. So all of you pick up your mates, according to your sections, and rush up to gather interviews. Adhiraj, you move up with Anny, to the malls. Interview as many people as you like, and jo question poochhna ho, poochh daalo. No issues mate. Simran, you go with Chako, and talk to some high posh socialists, and unki baaton ko jaise chaaho likho, with your own flavour. Sumit, tu Suhaani ke saath hamare college ke jo students interview ke liye ready ho, unse baat kar. And make sure you guys stay in limits. Baaki sab, disperse as you wish to", Samrat said. Suddenly his eyes spotted Gunjan, who was lost in her thoughts.

"Gunjan, tumhe kuch nai kehna?", Samrat asked. Everyone stopped in their places to listen to her answer, as Gunjan was brought out of her thoughts by Samrat's voice.

"I... actually... (she hesitated first, but then spoke firmly) the thing is i've got a news about some hefty elections in the St Stefen's College on the outskirts of Mumbai that took place recently, and the winning students have hosted a Fest, which is going on these days. I think if we cover the whole thing, it would be the best stuff for our weekend edition, like, real news. Hum log youth ko target kar sakte hain, not just of our college, but others too. I am sure unka opinion hum logon se different hoga. What say?", Gunjan finished giving a curious glance to everyone. There was a moment of silence, after which Samrat spoke.

"Amazing idea man. What better than such good scoop. I already like it, but iske liye we'll have to make so many arrangements, haina?", Samrat asked. Gunjan immediately got up.

"Nai, i've sorted it all with a friend. Humein bas aaj hie nMallikalna hoga, like within an hour or so. Aaj kaafi events hain, we'll have loads of matter. And we can even be back by tomorrow afternoon, so no big deal", Gunjan spoke with a childlike excitement, and Samrat could do nothing but say a yes to her.

"So how many peope do you think would be enough?", Sumit asked Gunjan.

"The thing is we were getting two passes, so maine initially hum teeno ke naam diye they, one just as a substitute, incase any of the two of us coudnt make it, out of me and Adhiraj. And ab kyunki Adhiraj mere saath nahi aa sakta, so... i guess...", Gunjan faltered.

Samrat knew the other name was Suhaani's, but now even she was busy. So basically they could make use of only one pass, but he couldnt send Gunjan alone.

"So, i think we'll use the substitute pass, uske liye i gave your name", Gunjan spoke, and Samrat lifted his face to see whom was she talking to. He was surprised to see everyone's gazes on him, along with Gunjan's anxious one.

"You gave my name for the third person?", Samrat spoke a bit too loudly, that Gunjan got a bit scared.

"Yeah, maine dia to tha, but if you dont want to go, i dont mind going alone. I'll manage...", Gunjan was cut in by Samrat.

"You're so not going alone. i just didnt expect you... i mean it was kind of a surprise, a pleasant one, i must tell you (Gunjan tried speaking). No, no! Dont even think about it. I told you i was just taken off hand for a moment, thats it, i am so coming with you. We both shall leave asap. Anyone have any problems with the arrangements?", Samrat asked one last time, unable to control the excitement out of his voice, when his heart was doing Bhangra and Waltz together. When everyone shook their head in a no, he asked them to move on to their work. Everyone had gone, and he was the only one left, along with Gunjan.

"Gunjan, meet me in the parking in half an hour, we'll leave soon. Make sure you're not late. And trust me, i would love to come with you, for the fest i mean, am sure it will be great news for us all", he added immediately, and gave her one of his dimpled grins, as she returned his smile. He'd turned to leave, when she called him back.

"Samrat"

"Hmm?"

"Friends?", she put her hand forward. Samrat saw her smile, and without any delay, he took her hand in his, and shook it ever so lightly, as if handling something very delicate. Her hand felt so soft and warm in his, but he took back his soon, and went away, leaving her with a smile.

Samrat had gone back home, to carry a pair of clothes, and some necessary items. He'd been quick in all of it, and rushed to the parking of his college. He saw Gunjan carrying a small backpack, coming out with Suhaani and Adhiraj.

"Adhiraj, i've told Bhabs, that i wont be home tonight. Bhai ko nai bataya, he wouldnt have let me go, you know na. So handle kar lena, please dekh lena yaar. And incase koi problem ho, to Benji jeej ke pass maine waha ka contact number chhod dia hai. He'll see to it, ok?", Gunjan asked, her face still expressing her unsurity.

"Gunjan, tu tension mat le yaar. Main Bhai ko sambhaal lunga. Benji aur mere liye chutki ka khel hai, you just take care of yourself, and keep in touch", saying this, Adhiraj gave her a side hug, while Suhaani showered some go away advices and hugged her bye.

"Bag?", Gunjan questioned, as she neared the car. Samrat took the bag and threw it on the backseat.

"Suhu, mom ko bata dena am going, and will be back tomorrow", Samrat spoke a bit loudly, and Suhaani nodded, wishing him a safe journey. Gunjan sat in the car, and saying the last byes, he started the car. Though the college was on the outskirts of Mumbai only, still it would be a 2 hour journey. He would have to take the longer route, as the shorter route was under construction, not that he minded it one bit. The journey started very silently. Samrat noticed the time, it was already 4 pm. He guessed they would reach at about 6 or something, if the traffic didnt trouble them a lot. He shifted his eyes a bit, only to see Gunjan busy with her cellphone, probably texting someone.

"How much time do you think it will take us to reach the college?", Gunjan suddenly spoke up.

"I think we can make it max by 7, it shouldnt be later than that. But most probably it should be somewhere near 6 past something", Samrat replied pretending to make some mental calculations. He saw that she'd got back to her phone. Samrat knew it was the end of the conversation from her, until and unless she wanted to know something more about the journey. But after a few minutes had passed, she spoke again.

"Samrat, do you mind if i play some music, from my playlist?"

"Uh haan why not. I'm sorry, i should've asked you before. Anyways, you go ahead", he said, concentrating on the traffic ahead, and so couldnt see her expressions. To his good luck, a traffic signal stopped them for about 1 minute, where he saw her take out her ipod, and plug it to the music player of the car. She searched some songs on her ipod, and finally settled pressing the play button.

'If our love was a fairy tale
I would charge in and rescue you
On a yacht, baby, we would sail
To an island where we'd say I do
And if we had babies they would look like you
It'd be so beautiful if that came true
You don't even know how very special you are
You leave me breathless
You're everything good in my life
You leave me breathless
I still can't believe that you're mine
You just walked out of one of my dreams
So beautiful, you're leaving me
breathless'

"Breathless, by Shayne Ward", Gunjan said, when she saw the confused expressions on his face. Samrat increased the volume a bit.

"Its kind of, you know, nice...", Samrat said softly.

"I know, i love it, especially the lyrics. I mean, if you find someone who makes these words come true for you, to life mein aur kuch nahi chahiye hota", Gunjan replied. Both of them didnt see each others face. Samrat had to look in front, and Gunjan also just didnt turn her face, but he could make out she was staring in space as she spoke about the song.

'And if our love was a story book
We would meet on the very first page
The last chapter would be about
How I'm thankful for the life we've made
And if we had babies they would have your eyes
I would fall deeper watching you give life
You don't even know how very special you are
You leave me breathless
You're everything good in my life
You leave me breathless
I still can't believe that you're mine
You just walked out of one of my dreams
So beautiful, you're leaving me'

"So what kind of music do you like?", Samrat asked.

"All the kinds... As in, i like music, be it fast, slow, fusion, folk, sufi, come what may. Its just that kuch songs achhe lag jaate hai, and i start listening to them. I am not a particular 'kind' specific. For me, anything would do. What about you, what's your choice?", Gunjan said.

'You must have been sent from heaven to earth to change me
You're like an angel
The thing that I feel is stronger than love believe me
You're something special
I only hope that I'll one day deserve what you?ve given me
But all I can do is try every day of my life'

"Well, my choice is quite simple. I love to listen to songs according to my mood. Jaisa mann kara, wahi tune play kar dia. If i'm happy and in some jovial moods, it will be rocking kind of fast music, and if i need the peace and calm around me, then what better than all those soft songs. I like to go with the flow, you see. Basically, expressing myself through music is easier than using words for the same", Samrat thought a bit and answered.

'You leave me breathless
You're everything good in my life
You leave me breathless
I still can't believe that you're mine
You just walked out of one of my dreams
So beautiful, you're leaving me
breathless'

"Matlab your music tells your feelings at that particular moment, right? (Samrat nodded his head) To phir back in the music room, you were feeling so restless, and anxious, why?", Gunjan suddenly spoke, looking at Samrat. It was a traffic signal, and he'd just stopped the car. Taken by surprise with the sudden question, he turned his face to look at her, and was captivated in her eyes, that showed nothing but confusion.

'You leave me breathless
You're everything good in my life
You leave me breathless
I still can't believe that you're mine
You just walked out of one of my dreams
So beautiful, you're leaving me breathless,
breathless...'

They kept looking at each other, until the song ended, and just when it did, the whole thing went silent, and they awkwardly broke the moment, looking straight ahead.

"Wha... what do you mean?", Samrat hesitantly asked as the signal turned green, and he started the car.

"I just meant ki, there, when you were playing the guitar, us time pe, i was listening to the music very carefully. It seemed as you played a soft tune, i guess others might think that. But i felt as if, as if there were so many questions in your mind. You were so darn anxious about something, something that wasnt letting you rest. At some notes, you displayed a happy emotion, while some showed quite a sad feeling, but most of them were very rapid, very inquisitive, as if you badly needed something, something which you just couldnt let go, something which was ripping you on the inside, like...", Gunjan was still fumbling with words, and didnt notice that Samrat had parked the car on the roadside. He turned to her and saw her looking down at her lap. He lifted her face, making her look at him directly, and placing his hands on her shoulders, he said,

"Gunjan, i want to talk to you, badly, about... about yesterday, can you... will you listen to me, calmly?", Samrat hesitated between his words. Gunjan's heatbeats rose frantically as she felt him so near her. His musky cologne filled her nostrils, as his slow breath hit her face. She could literally hear her heart jump up and down, but other than that, she saw the nervousness in Samrat's eyes as he spoke to her. It felt like this was the time when all would come out, and hopefully, that would end the silent war that was all around. She was also tired, since morning, from the pretence, a pretence of being someone else.

She'd chosen to play indifferent, to Samrat, to his effects, totally cut off and uneffected to his presence. It had been very difficult, to hide all those emotions that rose in her when she was with him. She alone knew with how much difficulties had she managed to deceive the others, but whatever she did, she could never deceive herself. Samrat still had that effect on her, which made her toes curl up, in fear, in excitement, of being with him. Her heart still felt the jitters, her body had those goosebumps, but she'd very well hidden all those from his piercing eyes. She knew her act had been a success. But what confused her were the genuine expressions on Samrat's face. She could read his state, and if whatever she read was true, then she was so interested to hear what Samrat had to say about yesterday. Maybe, just maybe, it could sort out a lot of things. She crossed her fingers, and hoped that Samrat had some good explanation for himself.

"Main sun rahi hoon Samrat, bolo kya kehna hai?", she replied softly.

Samrat saw the expectation in her eyes, they shone with innocent questions. Apart from it, he saw a ray of hope in them, he wondered what was she expecting him to tell her. But that was something even he did not know, he had no idea what to tell her. A sudden feeling of crushing down her hopes came over him. What if he said the wrong thing? What if she didnt take in his explanation? What if she refused to believe him, and left him, all alone? He couldnt afford that, he coudnt offend her, at any costs. Last time, when Mallika had left him, he was shattered, and he'd worked hard to overcome that phase. He had made so many changes in his life, but he was happy after that, as he'd gotten over her. But he knew it wasnt the same with Gunjan. What he felt for her, was something deeper. It was difficult to be put up in words, the feeling of living in paradise, a world where he was always happy. But it wasnt love, it just couldnt be, he knew being in love was totally a different feeling. It was like being out of the world, but he, was so not in love with Gunjan.

"Mallika ke saath...", Samrat stopped as Gunjan's cell started vibrating slowly. It lay in her lap, but ignoring it, Gunjan looked at him.

"Kal tumne jo dekha... wo...", Samrat's words stuck as the vibration grew louder.

"Bolo Samrat, main sun na chahti hoon", Gunjan spoke in an urgency.

"Wo kal shayad tumhe nahi dekhna chahiye tha. It was something personal, i cant explain it to you. Mallika and me...", words were stuck in his mouth as he saw Gunjan pick up the phone and talk.

"Hey Siya... haan bolo... yeah, am on my way... nahi yaar... sorry Adhiraj aint coming... shut up Siya... you know he's taken... ji nahi madam, aisa kuch nahi hai... he's with a very very good friend of mine... nahi re, how can i forget you people... Siya, tu jaanti hai na, i had to move on... i couldnt (Gunjan sensed Samrat listening to her) anyways Siya, lets just not talk about it, please... haan, tu bata, how are you people, did things change, ya sab waise hie hai... i am dying to hear all the gossip from you... the latest couples... and so obviously, you and ehem ehem... ok ok, lips sealed, no more before you meet me... waise ye to bata ki wassup with Ron and Archie, still stuck up ya... unhe abi bi apne nicknames nahi pasand, thats bad... awww... maine kitni mehnat ki thi unke liye itne classy names dhundne mein, that is so not fair... i'll see them when i reach there... anyways they are not stronger than me, i'll beat them up anytime, huh..."

Samrat imagined the two girls, skinny, something like Simran and Anny maybe, whom Gunjan was planning to beat up. He smiled seeing her expressions, but what irritated him was that she didnt put the phone down, the whole journey. She talked about this and that, and every random thing, he hadnt ever seen Suhaani talk so much in his entire lifetime. He was very pissed off, they'd left such an important topic in middle, it felt like he was left in the middle of a crisis. He tried catching her attention at certain points, but it was a total failure. After a while, he felt irked up, owing the situation, but he controlled his anger, and drove the car.

"... areh Siya, hum pohuch gayye, yeah, we've entered the gates, just five minutes more till i see you... better come and receive me... yep, catch you", finally, Gunjan cut the phone.

"Haan, Samrat, take this right turn, and wo jo board hai, us se left le lena, and drive straight till we reach the main building, nahi ye nahi, wo wala board, haan bas yehi, yes haan bas ab seedhe jaana hai...", Gunjan spoke.

"Erm Gunjan wo...", Samrat tried to speak, but Gunjan cut him.

"Thoda araam se drive karna the security is quite strict in the campus. Hmm bas, haan, stop the car, my friends will meet us here, Archie, Siya n Ron, come...", saying this, Gunjan jumped out of the car at light's speed. Samrat was a bit surprised by her behavior. He also got out of the car and reached her side. She was looking at the building in front of her, with something in her eyes, as if taking in the whole view.

"Gunjan", he called,

"Gunjan, are you listening to me", he again called, this time getting frustrated. Gunjan took a step to walk ahead, when he held her hand, and she stopped.

"Mujhe chhodo Samrat...", she squeaked.

"Main tumhare saath mein khada hoon, and you're not listening to me, what has happened to you? Are you ignoring me, because trust me if you are...", he tried speaking, in a furious tone, but was cut in by her.

"There's nothing left to listen, i think. I am really sorry, for intruding in your personal moments, but i'll keep out from your matters. You can live in peace from now, i promise, and am really sorry", saying this, she jerked her hand, and walked a bit fast towards the campus. Samrat was baffled by her reply. He looked shockingly at her retreating figure. Ofcourse, she had to react this way, his reply, his ingenius reply to her, had led to this. He was such a nutcase, couldnt he find some better words to explain it all to her. The damage was done, yet he could still do something about it, but that would be only if he acted fast. So, he immediately started walking at his top speed behind her, but to his surprise, she'd been already running. From where he was, he saw the figure of a girl in view, who'd come walking a bit in Gunjan's direction, but Gunjan crossed her, and crashed into someone else, who took her in a big bearly hug. Samrat could see the face of the guy, and he dreaded the worst, this just couldnt be true. The girl went back, and stood next to that person and Gunjan, who were inturn joined by a guy on their sides. Samrat moved slowly in their direction. He saw Gunjan come out of the hug, and the guy kissed her on her forehead, and side hugged her. Samrat went to stand infront of them, and their eyes met.
