Chapter 78 – New Year Party

Three weeks later - 26^th December Evening

Raj came home excited and met everyone at dinner table – "Guys, you will not believe it…today at Akshardham temple I met Mr. Taneja. He has given me four tickets for New Year eve party at La Meridian which Taneja group is arranging…..Rahul and Maan I think you should take these."

Though somewhere Raj wanted to celebrate New Year at home with his entire family but he also knew that the young couples probably needed some time alone.

Rahul and Maan took the tickets knowing Raj's sentiments fully well. They had heard Raj few days back talking to Rishab about how happy he was that after a long time his entire family will be together for year end party. They also realized his desire for them to enjoy in privacy.

Later that night they met along with Pari and Geet and made some plans of their own. Next day Maan explained everything to Annie as well.

New Year Eve - 9:00 PM

Raj, Rishab, Nisha and Juhi were sitting in the living room listening to music. They planned to spend time together playing cards, music and dance. Annie was going to a party at her college friend's place whereas Rahul and Maan were taking Pari and Geet to La Meridian.

Annie came to KM wearing a nice green color knee length one side off shoulder dress. She was wearing a neckpiece with a huge emerald in the middle. She looked really chic. Maan also came with her wearing a black see through shirt paired with black trousers. He looked quite dashing himself.

They sat chatting when Rahul and Pari also came down. Rahul had paired a corduroy jacket with a chocolate shirt and khaki pants. Pari was wearing a pink color outfit which flowed from her waist.

Rishab – "Wow you guys really look smart"

"Thanks Dad / Bauji"

Just then Geet came down. She was wearing a black shimmering dress which reached till her calf. It was a sleeveless dress with a flow of cloth covering just her upper arms. Maan looked at her mesmerizingly as she walked down. "Sorry…I am late"

Everybody laughed except for Maan who was in trance seeing her looking so beautiful. He finally came to senses when Rahul jabbed him.

Maan just smiled – "Hmmm…yes…Dad, Bade Pa we have a surprise for you on the terrace. Why don't you come with us?"

Now all the elders were surprised but they just got up to go to terrace. As Raj opened the door he gasped. Whole terrace was lighted with rainbow lights. There was a music system on one side and next to which a table was laid out with drinks and snacks. But what caught his eye was in the centre of some garden chairs. There was a pile of logs created on top of cement and brick base ready for campfire.

All the youngsters shouted – "Surprise!!!!"

Nisha said emotionally – "It is beautiful guys but only for four of us…kuch zayda nahin hai"

Rahul hugged Nisha – "Oh come on Mom…aaj hum sab ek sath enjoy karenge…do you really think any party can be more exciting than all of us together"

Rishab – "Lekin!!!"

Maan – "Dad…we are not going anywhere…parties we can do all the time and what is more special than all of us together."

He came close and hugged Geet from behind – "And… if you think we need some privacy…let me remind you if you have forgotten…hum besharam hain aur waise bhi apni family se kaisi privacy?"

Everybody just laughed out as Geet smacked Maan's hand.

Pari – "Ab aap log…jaldi se change kar ke aayiye, tab tak we will get the fire going"

Annie went down to help Juhi and Nisha to get ready quickly. Geet went down to tell Nakul that as planned whole staff can go out and enjoy as well. Food was all ready. She along with Nakul took the food along with warmers upstairs.

Rahul and Pari started the fire. Maan carried guitar, keyboard and base drums to terrace to arrange for some live music.

30 minutes later

Geet and Pari lighted the scented candles at the boundaries. Fire was crackling nicely and Maan and Rahul were discussing on the collection of music.

Raj and Rishab came along with Nisha and Juhi. They were wearing suits whereas moms were clad in beautiful sarees.

Everybody poured in drinks and started with light chatting around.

Rishab – "You know all this is so romantic….Maan, yaar kuch shayarana hona cahiye aaj"

Raj grinned – "I know….this is so beautiful…let's have some ghazals before we hit the dance floor"

Maan – "Thik hai Bade Pa but only romantic ones and no sad ones"

Rahul started the romantic teasing using a gazal. He cupped Pari's face and started singing –

Pari blushed and pushed him away. Rahul fell down on his bum and continued while all clapped and laughed

tirche tirche teer nazar ke lagte hain
siidha siidha dil pe nishana lagta hai

He got up from floor –

aag ka kya hai pal do pal men lagti hai
bujhte bujhte ek zamana lagta hai

tera chehraa kitna suhana lagta hai
tere aage chand purana lagta hai

Everyone clapped. Flustered Pari got up and – "Kya dad aap bhul gaye…Maan ne kitna tang kiya tha aap ko Karwachauth pe….ab mujhe samajh mein aaya ki maine who sexy belly chain pehle kyon nahin dekhi thi".Geet blushed profusely.

Raj – "Haan…woh to hai…Maan ko to koi sharam nahin but Geet you too!!!" Raj made a baby face.

Rishab - "Chalo Maan beta…ab jaldi se kuch suna do nahin to tera sasur teri band bajane wala hai"

Maan just smiled and kneeled in front of Geet

Geet stood up and hid behind Nisha in shyness. Maan took Annie's hand and danced with her –

Nisha, Juhi and Pari also joined the danced with their hubbies whereas Maan pulled both Geet and Annie together

Jungle tere, parbat tere
Basti teri, sahera tera

Kal chaudvin ki raat thi
Shab bhar raha charcha tera

As Maan was finishing, Adi and Pinky joined them. Some of Rahul's friends also came and everybody had dinner.

Around 11:30, Rahul opened the dance floor and he put a CD with songs ranging from Teri Or to YMCA.

Everyone danced when Rahul took the stage and started counting. Pari went and put out the lights except for the candles lining the walls and the fire in the middle.

10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1

"Happy New Year"

All hugged each other wishing. Entire family came in a group hug. Maan opened a champagne bottle and everyone drank cheering and laughing.

After the greetings, dance floor opened again and Maan grabbed Geet's hand for a dance.

He grazed her temple with his lips "Happy New Year Mishti". Geet blushed and looked down.

Maan chuckled – "Kyon Jaan…humein wish nahin karogi"

Geet slowly looked up to meet his gaze. She smiled. Her eyes twinkled with her love. She again looked down and slightly pecked corner of his neck where it met his jaw. "Love you Jaan….Wish you a very Happy New Year"

They danced slowly in each other's arms feeling their happiness and love.

Party kept roaring till about 2:00 AM when friends took leave and left the terrace. Fire was almost put out and Rahul covered the embers with an iron cover to cut out oxygen.

Once again entire family wished each other and moved to their respective rooms.
