Part-8

Dev was getting impatient as he waited for Radhika near MD's big table. His fingers were tapping over the table edge trying to relieve his tension. His face was turning to the examining space screen every now and then... Finally he saw the doctor coming with drying her hands on a towel.

Dev looked at her face anxiously. Doctor came and sat nearby...'

Dev in his anxious voice: doctor, is everything alright?

MD: yes.. so far good and she is managing it well too. She continued as she took a prescription sheet from nearby...' I mean ...'I know she is emotionally shattered after the trauma, but your love and support making her to accept the fact in a better way. That is more important than her physical stability...' physically she is alright, she is responding as expected, but mentally she may take time, but I can see the improvement already. From that starring look the other day to... today she was able to answer my questions looking into my eyes. I saw her hopelessness deep in her behavior the other day, but now I can see the difference in that. So the credits goes to you.. But.. she paused and looked at his face'...

As he was feeling the relief hearing doctor's words, the 'but' sound drawn his eyebrows to the center in concern..

MD: nothing to worry, I just want to remind you that she is not yet ready to consummate physically. You need to realize that she needs attention and care... .

Dev: I understand that doctor. I will take care of her.

His corner eye caught the sight of Radhika as she was coming towards them.. he turned and looked at her and brought a small chirpy smile conveying everything is alright to her'... she tried to smile back too, but then looked at the doctor'

Doctor: OK Radhika, you are doing well so far , so take care of the things that i mentioned to you... and I talked to your husband already. And then turning to Dev .. Ha Mr.Purohith may be you can take one more appointment after four weeks...'just for a simple follow up.

Dev stood up saying: OK doctor. I will bring her.. and thank you..

MD: Ok Then Radhika, see you in four weeks..

Radhika smiled and said thanks and walked along with Dev.

Dev held her shoulder loosely and walked out ..

They sat inside the car , Dev called Daadi and updated her on Radhika's health. The driver stopped the car in front of the Paint company.

They were walking in silently'... then,

Radhika: are you sure?

Dev: sure, what?

Radhika; that I need to take care of Indian Paints (IP).

Dev: yes Radhika, of course. I told you I need your help. I can't be here all the time and also need to straighten up many things in Purohith construction (PC). ..'.then looking at her face: why? Are you tensed?

Radhika: nooo.. trying to hide her anxiety...'

Dev read that, he said in his soft voice: I know it was not expected, but I know you can do it, also you have Daadi's help, she was my guide and an expert, .. and the employees here knows you and like you very much. So be yourself and try to learn and manage. Ok. he looked at her face and saw the doubtful shade..

Dev: RAdhika, you can call me at any time with any help. I can come or I can explain things to you. Then in a smirk tone.. I doubt how Daadi will take that, because she challenged me for this..

She looked at him helplessly..

By then they reached the main hall.

Manish the employee was the first one to spot them coming together, he looked at Dev and RAdhika with an exclamation!!!, he can't believe he is seeing them together in front of his eyes.. that also both very calm.. so was the case of Romeo and Panday and other employees.. they all stood still. They have seen Dev was always raising his voice over hers and made her to work hard from the first day they identified him as their new boss... never seen both of them walking in silently..

Dev looked at everyone and then in a very natural way , slowly circled his left arm around Radhika's shoulder.. The audience's lips fallen apart seeing Dev Purohith (DP)'s gesture and RAdhika's silence..

Dev: Hello everyone. There is a good news for you.. his eyes tried to reach everyone's expression as he said that'... he continued..

I know you all are bored by my bossing, so I am introducing you to your new boss, and that is RAdhika.. The employees listened still in disbelief.. they stood in that same position keeping their silence..

Not seeing an response back, Dev: Oh ho.. now what.. aren't you happy..

He looked around again, Radhika tried to look up to meet everyone's eyes too to see their reaction.. Their silence made her to go weak again and looked at Dev's face. He looked at her with a convincing glare and checked on the employees response again.. all in same position without any word...'

Dev: What?.. he tried to read their face again.. he saw Panday, looking at both of them in disbelief...' then suddenly something strike his head..

Dev: Oh, Ok, I am sorry.. I didn't introduce her in a professional way, right? Ok then..

Hi everyone, Meet Mrs. Dev Purohith, the new boss of your company..

He looked at again on each one's expression, but then the sound from the corner brought everyone's attention..dhimmm' Manish fell on to the ground.

Romeo and Panday went near him, and tried to wake him up.. Manish slowly opened his eyes and looked at his friend's face in disbelief.. as if, now what I will do...

Romeo thought in mind.. why you are looking at me like that, you were drooling over Mr DP, and for me, my dream glass broke within few weeks, see how close he is holding her... and then looked back at Manish's face...'

Suddenly they heard Radhika's voice nearby; Is He OK?.. they heard her concerned tone..

They looked at her face, Manish stood on his feet with his friends support and said: ha, I am fine.. He looked at her face again, he saw the shade of sindoor on her parted hair, he saw her mangalsuthr hanging over her duppatta..

somewhere inside he felt so happy.

Dev: Is everything OK there..

Manish: yes , sir, I am fine..

Dev: Ok then, Panday , I am promoting you as the manager as you are the senior most employee here ...and rest of the functioning and changes will be handled by Radhika. Is that Ok with everyone.

The silence broke with the sound of clapping.. Dev and Radhika heard their acceptance and met their happy smile..

Dev: ok then, Let me take her to the cabin, and you all can get back to your work.. Ok.

They tried to disperse as he guided her to the cabin..

Dev held her shoulder as they walked into that boss cabin... and officially made her to sit on that chair.. she sat as he forced and looked at him in embarrassment.

Dev: Ok, RAdhika, you take care of the rest and call daadi or me at any time. You already know few things about the company, but now you may have to understand different aspects of business. I am sure the management skill will come to you naturally, with your effort. I have good faith in you Radhika... With that he placed a loving kiss over her forehead and again with reassuring look tried to leave..

Radhika stood from the seat in a reflex: suniye..

Dev stopped back and came near her and said: Dev, sit back and relax. I will send Panday on my way back, so you two can start from your talk..ok.

Again he made her to sit back and walked away giving her a thumbs up..

He told Panday to meet Radhika as he was walking out.. but then stopped by hearing Romeo's loud secreting voice from a corner..

"so when is the party'..

He stopped and looked at that corner and saw Romeo trying to hide his face..

Dev: for you guys, of course.. soon', Let me know your choice. Will do it as your wish

' saying that he walked away with a winning smile on his face.. Romeo gave a high five to Manish.

Romeo: didn't our boss changed his attitude, he seems to be more soft with us..

Manish that's what I am thinking too, lucky Radhika na. Come let us go and meet her.

Dev came out from the building, the driver brought the car near to him.. .. Dev looked on both sides and saw the guards on both sides few feet away. He gave an alert look .. and then put his goggles on and drove away to PC'.

PC was back into action. They were missing their boss for past few weeks and was tolerating vishaka's tantrums all day.. she acted as if she took in charge of PC, Only Goapal Das was giving them some hope.. and almost everyone was wishing for Mr. DP to comeback..but when he came yesterday evening, he was totally in action, he didn't tell anyone where he was.. the rumors went around that he went for camping in a forest as he was unable to face the world after Radhika's rejection in front of the media. Vishaka was commenting all the time with a winning smile about the Radhika's fate..

Vishaka tried to recollect the scene where Dev pulled Radhika's hand to take her out from this building door, that also in front of the media. What that Radhika was thinking herself, that she can manipulate DP as she wish, It was me who played in the background, giving news to media and getting them Radhika's stories.. ..she enjoyed every piece of it.. and tried to remind herself that no one can pass her to reach Dev..

Amba in her green dress: Vishaka'... .. oh, sorry... Vishaka Mam.. Don't you think DP was little too hard on you yesterday..

Vishaka's faced her with a piercing look.

Amba: I mean, you were trying to talk to him, but he was asking many things to Gopal sir and I think he kind of made you to work on files.. don't you think so.?

Vishaka tried to recollect DP's angry tone..but then

Vishaka: Don't you know...' that is DP' in a dreamy mood. He is always like that when he comes back from camping.. and then with a twitchy smile on her lips'... But I know how to handle him well.. with that she rubbed her hands together..

The atmosphere changed as they felt DP's presence. Everyone got alert and active in their work.

Vishaka in a crooked tone, to Amba : Now you watch my magic...' and she walked towards him...'

DP walked in with his serious face. His each step spread the energy around. Sasha tried to stop him.. Good morning Mr. DP

DEv just acknowledged her greeting with a serious look and walked to his cabin' Gopal looked at him and DEv signaled him to follow.

Gopal followed him..

Vishaka stood with her open mouth.. but then kept her finger on her head as if she got some spark of hope.. asked Amba to give the file and went to DP's cabin..

Dev and Gopal Daswere in serious talk as they heard the knock..

Vishaka walked in..

Gopal : Sir, I will take care of this.. anything else..

Dev: no Goapal, that is it for now. .ok

Gopal: Ok sir, and he left..

Vishaka came in

Dev: what's up Vishaka?.. while trying to dial a number..

Vishaka: MR. DP, I think you need to look at this project. I have done most of the correction work, so if you can just approve it , we can move with next step. Actually I have some suggestions'...

the look on DP's face shut her mouth which conveyed the importance of the call that he is making...'

The ring was going on the other side .. Dev took the file and in a low voice: I will look into it and let you know.. his eyes conveyed her to leave..

Amba was peeking everything from side window. She was trying hard to listen to their conversation.. all she could see was DP's reaction to Vishaka.. she placed her finger under her chin forcefully and went in a thinking posture...'

The day went quick for both Dev and Radhika. He saw her sitting near Daadi with a gloomy face'... he went and sat near them..

Dev: so how was your first day Radhika..

Daadi also looked at Dev with gloomy face..

Dev: what? Why you both are looking so gloomy.. Is everything ok.

Daadi: No, nothing went OK. RAdhika felt like she is overwhelmed with so many things in a short time...' and ..

Dev with a teasing smile: so , the girls are backing up on the first day itself..

Daadi remembered her challenge: no no.. we are not stepping back. We only know to take the forward steps... not backward..

Dev: then what is the problem? looking at Radhika..

Daadi: You only ask her.. anyway I need to go for Sushma's house.. Don't wait for me for the dinner.. ok..

Dev: Hum.. so today is ladies day out?

Daadi: ha.. do you have any problem?

Radhika: Nope. I don't have any, as far as you go alone..

Daadi: yes, this time I am going alone..but next time, the girls will go out together..

Dev: what?!!!

Daadi looking at Radhika: Ok Radhika', or do you want to join me today itself.. maybe you will get some relief'.

Suddenly Dev looking at Radhika's face and then looking at Daadi':.. No Radhika is not coming today.. she might be tired.. trying to reason his wordings..

Daadi: ha ..ha.. nice try Dev.. I know you very well.. anyway.. Radhika beta, don't worry about the office, it will take time and you will do good , and more than anything when i am with you, you don't need to worry about anything. Mei hu na...ok'

Dev just smiled seeing his dadai's expression, and smiled in imagining how easily she makes excuses for not doing works, and here she is telling to Radhika that "mei hu na"

Dev watched as she walked away.. the minute she disappeared from his eyes, he went near Radhika, and looked at Radhika's gloomy face.. he kissed her forehead and enveloped his arms around her : RAdhika, you know what? This expression doesn't suit you well at all. Come with me, I need to freshen up too.. and want to hear about everything.. but then on his way up..

Radhika, actually I am feeling hungry'.. Is there anything to munch on?...

Radhika got alert: I don't know, you go and fresh up, I can check on it..

Dev: very good. Birju will be there and I will join you soon..

Time passed by and both were back in their room.. DP's cell rang and he attended it. He saw Radhika already in her night suit.. he joined her at the balcony.. he stood behind her and wrapped his arms around her at the waist level..

Dev: what happened Radhika?' Tell me na.. are you still thinking of'... his hands slide over her tummy.. she felt the pain in his voice..

She turned back and looked into his eyes..

RAdhika: are you still worried about it. You don't have to. She wrapped her arms around his chest level as she was unable to meet his eyes.. and held him tight and continued: I know I didn't say anything about it, yes I was worried about it but you are not responsible for that. But now it was a bad dream.. and I want to come out of this.

He held her more tight as he listened to her.. first time she is opening up her mind without any force.. his arms rubbed on her back comforting her, giving her more strength to speak out..

She continued': and all those moments bring stabbing pain to my heart'... the moment when I didn't listen to you, the moment when I didn't trust you and raised my voice over you saying i cannot trust anyone,'. Then with a feeble voice she added ...the moment I walked away with a new dream'

I am trying to come out from that nightmare. I know I should have screamed loud so that you could hear me and be with me.. but ..but.. everything happened so quick and when I realized about it I was already in that hospital bed. a dark circle formed around my vision. I don't remember anything else.. I can't recollect anything. I don't want to.. I don't want to'... I just want to think of the time when I opened my eyes in that hospital bed.. Your hands were holding mine.. and I saw your face'... that brought me back to reality.. now onwards I just want to see your face and want to think only about you...

...My pain is nothing Dev when it compared to Daadi's past.. You gave her hope, and now I have you'... I am not alone.. I have you and you are mine and only mine'... her voice trailed off as she stated the last sentence as rubbing her cheeks on his chest...' he felt the wetness, but he let her cry.. ..his eyes also felt wet with a relief. He knew she is still in her emotional breakthrough.. but her voice gave him so much hope and so much anticipation for tomorrow. He felt his heart light after hearing from her'...

Somehow he wanted to change the topic..

Dev: then why were you so gloomy Radhika?

Radhika tried to get back to normal tone: that's because, because... I don't know how to manage a company..

Dev changed his tone too: Why? Is it too much..

RAdhika: why don't you come to IP office, I will take care of all your files and work'

Dev smiled as he realized how she might have felt being in that chair all alone.. I know it is hard Radhika, but i just want you to divert all your attention for now, I want you to get engaged in something, so that you can speak out the same way you came into my life...

Dev: Radhika, I have so much going on in PC and I need to be there.. months of works got pended.. . So You need to try to manage it for some time. Call Daadi at anytime, she can help you..

RAdhika: I know But..

Dev: No but.., you did really well when I was there..

Radhika: That is because you were telling me what to do, and I just followed, but now I need to take decisions and I don't know how...'

Dev: Panday heina.. and Romeo & Manish..

Radhika: ya.. but..

Dev loosened his grip and moved to look at her face: don't worry, it will come to you..ok..

Radhika: hum'..

The cold wind was circling them and Radhika felt shivering'

Dev: let's go inside...

Radhika : hum'

OK now.. Now the heavy segments are over.. from next part onwards the heavy moments will give way to light moments and you will see how they move on together , loving and supporting each other.. and yes the life begins now... . so hopefully you will stick with me ...
