Shilpa Shetty and Mahima Chaudhury star in Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's latest film 'Babel'. The film is in competition for the Golden Palm of the Cannes Film Festival, that runs from May 17-28. If only, it turns out.
The Cannes festival's official website lists 'Babel' in competition, and the reputed imdb.com (International Movie Data Base) lists the cast of 'Babel' as including Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal, as well as Shilpa Shetty and Mahima Chaudhury.
A number of websites indicate that in the film, Shilpa plays the role of an Indian girl Sameera Sehgal, vacationing with her family, including sister Sonia Sehgal, played by Mahima. "I don't know where this came from. I really wish I was, but I'm not playing a role in 'Babel'," says an astonished Shilpa, who was lately in Paris.
And what was Madame doing in Paris? "I was invited as a celebrity to a Louis Vuitton exhibition, it had nothing to do with 'Babel'. I had so many calls about 'Babel' even in Paris. If only!"
At least 'Babel' is definitely in Cannes. With this film, the Mexican director completes his trilogy which started with 'Amores Perros' and '21 Grams'. Mani Ratnam's 'Yuva' is widely believed to have been influenced by 'Amores Perros'.m_shedde@dnaindia.net
